Breakfast burrito with bacon, carnitas street taco, chicken and chile tamale were all great. First time trying it.

Although it was OK, it is not a place I'll return to. We ordered it for takeout and it didn't beat Chipotle. Granted I ordered the Super Burrito, something I use to always order at Guadalajara Grill but no longer order but I was feeling nostalgic. I was thinking it would be a wet burrito chock full of goodies but it was simple and plain. It was mainly rice and beans with a bit of chicken for an additional $2, a smear of quac which was barely detectable and I had to add my own sour cream to know it existed. Having to add a protein to a burrito that is called super at an additional cost is ridiculous. We also tried the beef taquitos but they were dry. Still searching for great Mexican food! read more

So happy they opened in San Ramon. Delicious food and great service! They have a nice salsa bar that stays clean.

Wendy's closed and saw this new Mexican restaurant opened and thought to give it a try. Wow... it's affordable and very delicious. The best is they open 24/7! It's rare to find any restaurant opens 24/7 in San Ramon area so I'm thrilled. I went there on Tuesday not knowing it was Taco Tuesday. No wonder the drive-thru line was so long and I had to go around twice just to find a parking but it's all worth it. I ordered special 3 street tacos and 2-item combo (shredded beef crispy taco and chicken enchilada). The combo came with rice and refried beans. All very tasty! They were generous in giving the meat. The beef and chicken were well marinated and tender. The salsa bar was self-served and clean. They offered few types of salsa and they were spicy and authentic. Everything was good and very satisfying. The restaurant was clean and had plenty of tables. Definitely a great new Mexican restaurant! read more

We stopped by tonight and had multiple issues with our order. I was given ground beef instead of steak, the keto tacos were disappointing (they were essentially just meat with cheese on top) not shaped like a taco as shown in the pictures, and four items were missing from our order. Overall, the experience felt unorganized, and it seems they need more experience and better attention to detail. I do not recommend this new place. read more

As a Latina, I was so excited to see a Mexican restaurant open locally. Yes, I know there are others, but honestly, none of them have won me over. My daughter and I shared the carne asada lunch plate, and it was a generous portion. It came with rice, beans, delicious guacamole, and sour cream. The rice and beans were full of flavor without being overly salty, and the carne asada was just as good--well-seasoned and really satisfying. For drinks, I ordered the vampire juice and she had the horchata. We were both very pleased read more

The burritos are to small. The diff between a super vs regular is barely noticable. Needs a punch of flavor. I personally feel they should use whole beans instead of bean spackle. Also throw some pico on that bad boy! At the drive up window you are limited to green and red salsa. No lime, carrots, penos, pico, avo salsa, radisches, etc etc. And finally this is a head scratcher. They wrap the burrito in paper not tin foil !! The menu is impressive and the place is nice with a drive up window. For $17 total it should be muy grande. read more

I have been here twice. Once for street tacos that I bought for my coworkers and today I had a delicious taco salad. My coworkers loved the tacos and I absolutely loved my taco salad, which I would say was equivalent to my favorite dine in Mexican restaurant in Danville. The service was great as well. read more

Finally!! Some legit Mexican food here in Danville/San Ramon. The chips and salsa bar is delicious. I loved my super burrito with shredded beef. The food came out hot and delicious. I ate my daughter's leftovers this morning with some eggs. The quesabirria was also delicious and more filling than it looks- could have shared that meal. It's more expensive than this type of Mexican restaurants typically, but that is more the location than anything I think. Their portions are great and their menu is huge. I'm in trouble that we have a drive thru Mexican option. We all loved our food and will be going back! read more

El Forastero - Quesabirria, loaded rolled tacos, fajita plate, super burrito - Mexican Near Me - San Ramon, California

Pretty bad burritos .. the meat was super salty. The only best thing is the salsa bar.

For San Ramon this has to be the BEST BURRITO I HAD, because I've tried a couple of spots out here and it was NO BUENO LOL, it's almost as good as the taco trucks in Oakland because we know Oakland got some real good Mexican food, GO HERE get the carnitas burrito with refried beans and everything good 9 out of 10!!!!!!! read more

Good customer service, food came quickly and was delicious. Also love that its open 24/7 read more

Oh I was so excited to try this place! Pros: great chips/salsa bar Paper plates so no need to tip! Great ambience Clean restaurant Lots of variety Good shake flavors Cons: Stale corn tortillas. Hard on edges Dry refried beans Dry diced chicken Small portions Paper plates A sliver of sour cream Don't waste your money on this place. Taco Bell cantina is better. I wont be back again read more

Tiny portions for a very high price relative to most Mexican restaurants. Smallest, thinnest burrito I've ever seen with a low variety of ingredients I'm still hungry after finishing it and that's never happened to me anywhere else. Drive thru was insanely slow, 1 car ahead of me and it took 20 minutes. Food was cold as well, very disappointing. read more

First time ordering food but food was not good. Tacos were greasy, chips were stale, pozole seemed like it was not fresh. I tried once but was grossed out and will not go back. Too bad because it's the only place that has a kitchen running late. read more

Food is really good highly recommend. The birria tacos are my go to and they have a lot of flavors of Jarritos read more

went in on Saturday Morning to have their Mundo'. the cashier took my order, I got my food and Sat down on the conformable seat n table to enjoy my Mundo . I started to take a couple of spoonfuls. I couldn't eat eat any more, it was so crazy Spicy , Hot !! The corn tortillas were old and stale Nothing taste good. so I took my plate up to the counter and ask if I could have another new bowl of Mundo or my money back. The same Cashier that took my order instead offered to give me my money back that way I can't compare the new Mundo with my Hot Spicy Tampered Mundo I have been there on the Weekends to have a bowl of their Mundo and it was never that spicy before and had a different cashier. instead. I just walk away and I'll won't be back for a while has along that cashier is there . yes. I think he made it spicy on purpose. read more

We came in around 8:15 pm on May 5th. Two people ordered the Chili Verde plate - sooo salty. Very disappointed. Prices are high for the quality of the food. read more

First off, I want to say I'm soo happy there's a good Mexican restaurant near my job! Also, Blanca is amazing, helpful, and the sweetest! It's nice inside and has a variety menu! I absolutely recommend. The best part is their drive-thru is 24 hours! Can't beat it! read more

Third time here and I enjoyed the food and ambiance. Modern restaurant with good lighting and TV. Best breakfast burrito we had in several years. The eggs were moist and potatoes were basically cut French fries. Lots of salsa to choose from. Chips and drinks are self serve. read more

The worst Mexican i have had, Taco Bell is better. I ordered a taco salad from the drive thru. When I got home the shell was swimming in liquid so only the edges were crisp. The meat was no seasoned at all. The guacamole was watery. There were huge unevenly cut pieces of lettuce on top with about a teaspoon of cheese. What was all the liquid? It was do gross. Terrible, I would not recommend. No stars read more

First time here and we thought it was great. We each ordered the chile relleno plates -- next time we share. It was a LOT of food. Rice, beans, guac, lettuce and 4 tortillas, warm and good. Will definitely be back. Help yourself chips and salsas. Please mark the salsas so we know what's hot and what's not, but all were good. Clean tables and floor. read more

FINALLY!!! A taco shop that is similar to taco shops in San Diego. And the best part is that it is in San Ramon where I live and is open 24 hours like many taco shops in SD. My bro-in-law told me that this place opened up after Wendy's shut down and I'm glad he did cuz now this is the one and ONLY spot I will go to when I crave for carne asada burrito or rolled tacos. Being from San Diego, I'm very picky with my Mexican food and El Forastero checks all the boxes for me. It's a bit on the pricey side, but that's just how it is in the Bay Area it seems. I literally just ordered a regular carne asada burrito today just now on my lunch break and this is exactly how a carne asada burrito should be: carne asada, pico de gallo, and guacamole wrapped in a tortilla. None of this rice or beans or any of that other stuff they put in a "super" burrito. Just a burrito completely stuffed with carne asada, pico, and guac. That's it lol! Oh and a bonus for me is that they have my favorite drink in the world: Pina!!! I don't know why many taco shops here in the bay don't have pina, but I'm glad this spot does. El Forastero, thank you for bringing a bit of "home" for me here in the Bay Area! I wish all taco shops here in the Bay would emulate your shop. read more

They did not see our order online and so we had to wait a really long time for our food. When we finally got the food, the fries were undercooked and they completely forgot the Birria dip. Not sure if they are just having some challenges because they are new but we probably won't be back for awhile if at all. read more

I have been back on a couple of different occasions and have noticed some changes in the food. My ground beef tacos had such salty meat that I had to scoop it out and just eat lettuce tacos. Pretty bad for a 14 dollar lunch. The mgr appeared to be busy so I waited until the lunch rush died down and I was leaving to lodge my complaint. He didn't seem to care. Last time I had chicken enchiladas again. The meat was almost all dark meat and not as tender as before. On this visit the dining room tabletops and floors were dirty. The salsa bar was a mess and kitchen floor had a lot of basket liner papers scattered all over. It looked like they had given up. I'll pass on any more visits here. read more

Much needed in the area. Solid variety of Taqueria staples done well. Birria and carnitas are super tender and delicious. Crispy tacos are great, as are the carne asada fries. Good variety of fresh salsas. Drive thru fast but not so fast you think your food wasn't being cooked fresh! read more

First I called in my order to pickup. I don't like 3rd party involvement with MY food. They took my order and were very friendly. I could pick up inside or window. The food was very good. I had casa burrito, rice, beans, salsa and pico with shredded beef seasoned well and tender meat, my daughter had mexibowl with shredded beef had rice, beans and veggies. She thoroughly enjoyed the bowl and it was large with a choice of tortillas, flour or corn. They gave us an abundance of salsa and catsup. We also got an order of french fries and flan. Price was reasonable and the food was fresh and delicious. People in line at the In and Out...which is good too, should check this place out. Especially if they like a good helping of meat. I didn't go in but the outside was super clean through the drive thru and the drive thru guy had a great attitude and smile. We will be back. read more

I was expecting an El Blazo replacement type Mexican food and it gave taco bell cantina. Can't brag on this being Bay Area Mexican. I ordered a fish burrito it was lettuce sauce and fish no beans no rice no sour cream no salsa more of a wrap. I'll try 1 more time but that's it, the paper not foil wrapper was telling me all I. Needed to know. read more

I really wanted this restaurant to be great, but the best part of El Forestero is the drive-thru. The food is just OK, and it is also a bit inconsistent. I have gotten mainly carne asada super burritos, and they were "just OK"--not great, not bad, just OK. I did have a bad one a couple of weeks ago that was dripping with orange grease, so I haven't been back since. The others I had before that didn't have the dripping orange grease issue. The carne asada is on a flat top, not flame-broiled; the beans are just OK, etc. It is nice not to get out of the car, and the late-night hours are a plus, but for taste, in my humble opinion, you are better off getting out of the car and going to Chipotle or driving a little further and going to Casa Orozco, because the trade-off between taste and the drive-thru convenience is borderline. read more

We've been to this new restaurant twice. We have tried the super tacos, burritos, and the quesabirrias. All delicious! They give you the right amount of meat! On our first visit there were some mistakes in our order...wrong meat, no guacamole. Second visit was perfect! read more

My husband & I were excited to try this new place, as San Ramon is sadly lacking in restaurants. We ordered pickup online. When I arrived, the parking lot was full & there were several cars in the drive thru. I had to wait for someone to leave, so I could park. I thought this meant that the place was packed, however there was hardly anyone inside, so I assume the majority of cars were for the workers, of which there were several. My order wasn't ready in the quoted time, but the staff was very friendly & it only took a couple of extra minutes. My husband had a ground beef burrito (which can be hard to find at some taquerias). I ordered the taquitos & we also ordered a kids meal & selected the BRC (bean, rice, cheese) for our child. They provide free tortilla chips & have a free salsa bar. The Horchata drinks were so good, but that's where the good stopped. The burrito was bland & the kids bean, rice & cheese burrito actually had potatoes & eggs inside, so I think they mixed up a breakfast burrito with the rice, bean & cheese burrito. We will probably wait a while & try something else, as we really want this place to work out. It's nice to know there is another 24/7 option other than McDonald's. read more

Waited 35 minutes for a kids quesadilla and breakfast burrito. Salsa bar was a disaster and dirty. Napkins were not refilled . Chips were sitting under a heat lamp dry and also not refilled. The rice that came with the quesadilla was clumpy and hard. The breakfast burrito lacked flavor - dry, bland, and wrapped in paper instead of foil. Just awful. Will not return and would rather drive to monument in concord for a decent taqueria. read more

All of our food was cold. We had chicken enchiladas, a shredded beef burrito, Carnitas street tacos. Rice and beans. The beans needed more salt, but they were good and so was the rice. The rest of the food was okay. It wasn't great. It's a little to pricey for being just okay and cold. We definitely will not go back. read more

Not the greatest carne asada I've had. As a Hispanic family member, it was really lacking in flavor and meat consistency (carne asada is marinated skirt steak and this was more like it went through a meat grinder). Nachos, however, were pretty decent and I would order them again. But for authentic carne asada burrito, I would probably not order it here. Staff was super nice as well. read more

My second trip. First had chicken fajitas. Surprised no black beans. Chicken was cut up very small. Would like to see larger pieces. Cost was high for quantity of product. Flour tortillas very good. Second trip huevos rancheros. Does the refried beans made with lard? Black beans would be nice. Taste was good. Surprised no soda fountain. The all night drive thru will do well. Only major issue the person taking the order spoke no English was a bit hard to communicate read more

Family loved the burritos. Reminds me of the 24 hr spots in socal. We ordered carne asada and carnitas...delish. my daughter loved her nachos because they didn't go skimpy on the meat and toppings. read more

The food is very solid for the price, and the churros are the best in this area. The service can be a bit unpredictable so I recommend the drive thru as that seems to go smoother. The ambiance is fine, nothing special but not bad for eating lunch. Good spot for some more affordable food. read more

Great food! Easy, good price and quick. We usually take our orders to go. Had a hiccup with one of our orders and they took care of making things right. We'll definitely continue to dine at this establishment. read more

I was excited to try this place. Got it after work for dinner. I got the flautas and the taquitos. Upon eating it I was grossed out and disappointed. They were like rubber! And the meat was so dry and looked like dog turds. I had to drown it in sour cream just to try to eat some of it. If I ate it there I definitely would have took it back to them and told them. I was not far from where I ate it but I didnt want to go back. At this point I would only use them if I was starving and they are the only place open. Maybe if I try them again it wont be as bad. Do not recommend what I ordered. Wanted to try the chimichanga and Enchiladas. to be determined. read more
