3.75 stars, happy to round up to 4 Super yum! El Forastero is getting into their groove. Opening crowds have died down. The place is still busy but now the number of diners seems more manageable. The kitchen isn't overwhelmed and staff is turning out better food. Been back about 3 times in the last 2 months. Have tried their pork adobada or chicken street tacos, chicken asado fajita taco or the grilled chicken taco plate. The tacos are stuffed with juicy chicken or pork and the fajita taco adds grilled veggies. Really liked that their adobada isn't saucy and dripping grease but is still very well seasoned and incredibly yummy. They've fixed the salt levels. The pico de gallo is no longer over salted. They've got the consistency nailed down, at least for the aforementioned chicken and pork dishes. During my last visit, they added grilled jalapeños and onions to the salsa bar. Another condiment to help customize food to personal liking. Loved it. Two things still need work. The pork and cheese tamales were dry. Needed a lot of help from the salsa. Also the agua fresca I tried (I think it was mango or pineapple) was so watered down, I couldn't even tell what flavor I was drinking. Lastly, I no longer have to avoid peak dining hours. Ordered and dined in today around 11:45 am. No real line, it was easy to get a table and the wait for the food was short. Granted it was Tuesday. Haven't tried visiting on a weekend since they first opened. Based on my last 3 visits, can't wait to go back and try more of the menu again. read more

I love this place; El Forastero. Their street tacos are so delicious and very inexpensive. Their chicken nachos are equally scrumptious. The chicken and carne asada in their dishes are so fresh and tasty. They take care in adding the proper spices to it and know how to cook quality and authentic mexican dishes. I highly recommend people try it and try all their dishes. read more

I have gone to this place quite a few times because I live 3 minutes away. I've tried tacos, taquitos and tonight the bean and cheese burrito. The tacos and taquitos were over fried and lacked flavor. The bean and cheese burrito was FILLED with raw onions. Where does it say on the menu there are onions? Guess they don't take into consideration that people have food allergies which is concerning. The beans were not hot at all, the shredded cheese they put in it didn't even melt. As for customer service, they aren't friendly guys. Seem irritated at times that you walk in and they have to pause their conversation to work. After tonight, Taco Bell sounds better but I'll drive a little further to Untacomas to get better food and service. read more

El Forastero takes over the Wendy's space on San Ramon Valley Blvd. The interior decor remains unchanged. The drive-thru is still there. The menu offers all of the Mexican items of a Taqueria with a variety of proteins. We ordered the lingua plate and the two taco (lingua & Carnitas. The tacos and meats were good. The rest of the plate the rice, beans, salsa and toppings were very institutional. Open 24 hours El Forastero is a good addition the San Ramon When not busy there is plenty of parking. Fast food service. Price point is higher the Taco Bell but less then a sit down Mexican restaurant. read more

I have come here twice already since it is close to America's tire and I needed to get a tire put on. First time I was surprised at how good it was. Second time I was surprised again at how good it was. Totally legit Super Burritos. It seems to be a franchise. Only thing is since it has to cater to a higher demographic area, they did not have cabeza which was a downer. I did like the carnitas and asada. Service was solid and fast. Burritos are made well. It is wrapped in normal paper compared to foil but this was not a point off thing since I finished it each time. Ambiance is nice and honey. It is not fine dining but more quality take out. So don't expect a sit down ambiance. I like it and would recommend it El Forastero to anyone looking for quality Mexican food. One star off for not having more of a variety of traditional meats but still solid! read more

Review is for drive-through lunch. El Forastero replaces the Wendy's on SRVB and is a 24/7 Mexican fast food / fast-casual place. There are like over a dozen stores, mostly in the Sacramento and Stockton areas. San Ramon apparently has have a niche customer base for late night eats, despite being a pretty sleepy town. Just check out the drive-through line at In and Out on a weekday after dark. The menu is huge and has fish, shrimp, chicken, pork, and birria in various permutations. Yes there's Quesabirria but also birria ramen! I opted for the Carnitas Plate ($20 or so) and a Chicken Quesadilla ($10 ish). Both were prepared quickly via drive-thru. Loved the carnitas plate - shredded, flavorful pork that's not super salty like some places. Our 5yo seemed to like it too, so huge props. Good creamy and smooth refried beams, and the free tortillas were served piping hot. The Chicken Quesadilla we found a bit on the salty side, and there's a small peppery kick added. Definitely plan to come back to try their other offerings. Heck, you can even fond breakfast items here. read more

I saw that El Forastero took over the Wendy's location and was looking forward to trying the food. Danville and San Ramon historically has not had any good Taquerias. Within a time period of a couple of months two Taquerias opened in San Ramon with good reviews. I happened to drop in on a Tuesday not realizing that El Forastero has a Taco Tuesday deal. The street tacos are $.50 cheaper. I ordered a couple of Carnitas tacos, one Adobada taco and a crunchy ground beef taco (I grew up on crunchy ground beef tacos). The tortillas were fresh, carnitas tasted boiled (not team flavorful), the Adobada had good flavor and I loved the ground beef taco (could have used more lettuce and cheese). They gave a chips and salsa bar which I thought was great. They keep the area very clean and well stocked. The chips are good, they don't taste like chips out of a bag (lots of restaurants use the commercial bulk chips). Even though the food is cooked, it takes several minutes to get your food. The service is good, restaurant is clean and they have several other items on the menu. I plan to drop in on Crunchy Taco Sunday. Plus I want to try some enchiladas (see if I can get ground beef) and Taquitos at least one. Swing by to support one of the better Taquerias in the San Ramon/Danville area. read more

It's now 825am as I am writing this post. Came here because I am waiting for my child's graduation. Killing some time, washing the car and now a little hungry. I stepped into this restaurant.. Surprisingly, it's open 24 hours. Wasn't sure if the dining was open so I went through the drive-through. . Was craving for a quesabirria I'm glad they had it. I I scanned the price when I was ordering and noticed they were pretty expensive so only decided to get one along with their breakfast burrito. This place is a bit pricey if I had to come a few days a week. Overall, I would like to say for the price the quality is good. I hope this business strives and survives. It has huge potential. Just a little bit tucked in. One complaint I have on the burrito is I wish they wrap it with some kind of foil or have better wrapping because oil dripping is imminent while you are feasting read more

Good food, great service! Very fast, and the guy working around 2 AM was really nice. It's definitely the best food option I can find in the Tri-Valley after midnight. I'd probably opt for another place during the day but this beats fast food for sure. Decent pricing, and the tacos are a good size! Also the guacamole is pretty good, that definitely beats the mashed avocado at Los Pericos. I only wish I could go inside to wash my hands late at night when the lobby was closed. An outdoor bathroom, sink, or even hose/spout would have been helpful. That did not affect my rating though. read more

I read that this opened in the former Wendy's location so we decided to check it out. This chain is based in the Sacramento area. Did I mention that it's open 24 hours? To sum it up, it's more like a late night drunchie spot that has a drive thru! There was a line in the drive thru but we decided to eat in and there was a decent crowd in the inside. The menu board is overwhelming because there is a lot on the menu! We kept it simple and tried the quesabirria dippers and the rolled taquitos. Both were average. The salsa was pretty good and the green one has a bit of a kick. Service was good and the food was ready in a decent amount of time. We will probably go back after a late night out. read more

This is the perfect spot for late night cravings. It's open 24 hours a day! The service is fast and the staff friendly! They have a large menu. It's not the best Mexican food but be realistic with your expectations. I ordered the regular burrito and ordered the super nachos. My bueno! The place is the old Wendy's fast foot spot. But they remodeled and added 2 big screen televisions. So in theory you can hang out anytime you want. I'll be back to try their special the read more

New Mexican restaurant with drive thru that is 24 hours. Got the regular burrito with carne asada that comes with guacamole and pico. There's a version with rice too but opted for lower carb. The burrito itself is primarily onion and subtle guac flavor. The spicy sauce they give you is one red and one green and the red was actually decently spicy! The meat wasn't tender but to be expected for a fast food concept and the meat was also very salty. I mostly just remember the salt! Good but you'll need a tank of water to quench your thirst! However the quesobirria tacos do get those! For fast food they were actually decent, the meat was tender. The dipping broth was not super flavorful but drinkable. read more

I'm so disappointed. I spent about $40 on two burritos for me and my daughter. It was so salty that it was inedible.

Ever since leaving San Diego, we've been looking for a great go to mexican joint. In the last month we tried Taqueria Azteca in Dublin (Dang good Birria Pho), El Califas (great burrito) and now El Forastero. Personally, of the three I think I prefer El Forastero the most. here's why. Food: The food is good. We got a few things and almost all were great. Carne Asada Fries: Almost as good as I remember in SoCal. The fries were a good size (not quite as thing as ideal but still really good), the toppings of it all were generous, and the size, overall, was pretty good. My kids split one and almost finished it. Definitely enough for 2 people who eat a medium amount of food. California Burrito: It was okay. The first few bites were 40% tortilla, 20% cheese and 40% meat/fries. The flavors were great but the fact that it was small and didn't have a ton of stuff inside wasn't so great. As I got to the bottom, the ratios changed since it seems the tortilla bunched up on the side I started on, but I wouldn't get it again unless I was really craving a California burrito. Rolled Tacos: Standard rolled tacos. Honestly nothing stand out. They were crispy and generous with the cheese/sour cream on it. Street Tacos: Probably the second favorite of the night. We got a few tacos and they were filled with a ton of meat. GREAT value for the cost. We did wish they had more onion/cilantro, but in the end, we'd rather more meat than onion/cilantro. Fish Taco: The thing to avoid. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was not what we expected comparing it to SoCal fish tacos. When we go to places like Taco Ensenada in LA, the fish fry is a light batter with a flakey fish inside. Sometimes it's a little oily but still overall light. This was a more dense fish and the white sauce was a different flavor. I can't ding them for not having the same flavor profile but it was just a little heavier than I hoped for on a fish taco. Chips/Salsa Bar: Free chips and salsa! And they're all really good! What more do you need? El Califa didn't have this which was a demerit for them in the comparison game. The only issue we ran into here was that most of the sauces/salsas were low or out. They were so busy i'm guessing they just didn't know. Service: We went on a Thursday night. NOT taco tuesday, but a thursday night... they were pretty busy. Maybe 30 people in there and the parking lot was full. The staff was ALL extremely nice and helpful. Location: It'st he closest. Not by much but it's the closest place to us. I could walk there (I wouldn't) but I could. So that's a plus. Overall, comparing the food to Azteca and El Califa, They're all great (minus the fish taco here). Service wise, also everyone's great. So why does this place edge out the others? Convenience and the chips. This is the same distance as El Califa from home but has chips. Azteca is definitely a drive. Oh did I also forget to mention they are open 24/7 for drive through? That puts the cherry on top. read more

First let's get this out of the way. This is not an "authentic" Mexican place. Come on this used to be a Wendy's. What is the expectation here? I came here with my 9 year old daughter. We dined in. The menu is so big, I was immediately overwhelmed. When a menu is that big, some if not most items are gonna be meh but there's always a few they're going to do well. I must have stared at the menu for about five minutes. We eventually got two quesabirria tacos, carne asada fries, and nachos with cheese and jalapeños from the value menu. The birria tacos with the consommé were SO GOOD we both inhaled it. We dipped our tacos, then took a bite and then a little sip of the consommé and it was perfection. There was some nice cheese pull with onions to perfectly cut the grease. I just wish they'd give more consommé. The carne asada fries were good, the picture doesn't show it but there was guacamole inside also, which was a nice surprise. The carne asada was also cooked very well. The nachos from the value menu, wouldn't recommend since after I ordered, I noticed there's free tortilla chips and a salsa bar with jalapeños on the side. We also got a strawberry horchata which I have never seen anywhere but I so highly recommend it. It is very sweet so my daughter and I shared a medium and that was the perfect amount for us. There were TVs inside with football playoffs on. The bathrooms were clean and the restaurant is clean. The only thing annoying about dining in is the beeper that lets you know your food is ready will just keep beeping and beeping while the person goes up to get their food. The service is good. The person taking my order patiently waited while we were deciding. The food came out in about five minutes. I will definitely be coming back to try some more stuff and getting the birria tacos again. I recommend trying this place out and getting the birria tacos. read more

I used to go to the El Forestero locations in Stockton all the time when I was in school so I wanted to check this one out. The inside is actually really nice, way better than I expected. It was clean and they had the basketball game on TV so I thoroughly enjoyed the vibe in there. Food wise it was a bit mixed. They have free chips and salsa which is always a plus, but honestly the chips were just okay. I ordered a Super Burrito online and while it was definitely a filling meal, I'm pretty sure they forgot the sour cream. I also didn't really enjoy the cheese they used inside the burrito. Overall it's a cool spot to sit in, but I would probably stick to the Carne Asada fries for a late night drunchies run next time. read more

Terrible quality and incompetent employees. I ordered 3 items for take out and they were all wrong or bad quality. I got a birria torta. The menu clearly shows that it comes with a 4 Oz consume. They didn't include it in my order. I called to mention it, hoping to at least get a partial refund or something. Instead, the employee told me that I was wrong. He said the torta doesn't come with consume. I told him the menu says it does. Then he hung up on me. I also got a taco and paid an extra $1 to make it a lengua taco. They gave me a birria taco. I got a carne asada torta. They don't even bother to chop up the meat. They added two whole pieces of steak to the torta. With it being unchopped and so fatty, it was impossible to eat. I had to take the steak out and eat it on its own and lost half of it to fat. This place deserves the low rating it has on yelp. read more

Ok so this is a review of the drive thru experience. First off, super fast! Got three tacos and a drink in like 6 minutes or so. I was able to see inside when I drove into the drive thru and it does look really nice inside. I had two street tacos and a quesabirria taco as well as a horchata. The adobada street taco was very tasty. The lengua taco was a bit dry, but hey, they just opened and it was still really good, just not as good as the adobada. Major props for having enough cilantro and onions on the tacos. Well done there! The red and green salsas added a nice kick. The red one was a bit spicier, so just something to consider if you're not into spicy food. The horchata was great. I've had bad horchata before and this one was definitely not bad at all! Now. The reason this gets 5 stars? The quesabirria taco was amazing. The sauce was piping hot and the the taco? Perfect. It made me actually sad I had not ordered three of them! I will definitely be coming back and having a few of these! read more

They utilized most of the Wendy's furnishings, so it's nice inside. I've been a number of times. Best bites are the Quesadilla Birra tacos, Birra Tortas and their Street tacos (Carne Asada & Carintas. Kinda hit and miss on many other items we've tried. Been going here since day two. Let's start with the good: free salsa bar, friendly cashier, quick service, large quantities. Second time here, this time with my wife, and there's a bit more work to do. The menu is so broad that perhaps they need to narrow and focus on a few things. The birria tacos were very, very greasy. So greasy could not pick up and dip. Tasted fine. The California burrito was huge and had all the right ingredients but had no flavor. Still a mystery. And the Coke Zero tasted wrong. Off. "Perfume" said my wife. This was true last time as well. We both poured out our drinks and replaced with Diet Coke. Did not have the same perfume issue, but was not quite right. The settings on the fountain machine are clearly off or the cleaning is not right. At 1:30 pm on a lovely Saturday it was very quiet inside. Last visit, a few weeks ago, was very busy. We want them to be successful. They may need to pause and see if all is meeting their Sacto location expectations. And when we arrived many tables needed to be cleaned off, and when we left, the tables were still dirty with drink cups, plates, etc. read more

I've never heard of this place or that they have literally a hand full of locations all over California and... they're all open 24/7! I'd definitely choose this spot over McDonalds for a late night snack lol. Easy to find and friendly guy taking orders. Lots of pictures and OPTIONS. I was throughly impressed with the list of options for every palate. chose the regular lengua burrito and it was juicy and moist. A little salty but it balanced well. Only one type of hot sauce and I don't know how I feel about it. Again it works with the burrito. ordered the orchato and if you Ike watered down version. Then this is the place. Maybe the ice melted and it was 2 am. Will definitely give this spot another try at another time. I left full af though. So I really can't complain. read more

I walked in today hoping for some really good authentic mexican food. Im under the weather so I was looking for some good mexican caldos (soup). Come to find out they dont serve any caldos or soups. They serve pozole/menu on weekends only. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. So then, I figured I would get desayuno (breakfast) instead. In most authentic Latino restaurants they have nopales or chilaquiles. So I asked if they serve those items. They said no. HUGE FAIL FOR ME. They didnt make any of the 4 items I was hoping to have. So no breakfast and no soups. I was left with no choice but to leave. I was hoping for a little more authenticity in terms of their menu. I was sorely disappointed. It looks like I have to continue to frequent Los Pericos in Dublin to get my caldos/desayuno fix. Side note: this place serves a lot of interchangeable stuff that can be stuffed in a burrito, taco, torta, nachos, etc. They also have birria ramen. I dont care for ramen, so it wasnt for me. The ambiance is what you would expect from a repurposed Wendy's but it seemed to be clean. The front counter people were quite fast and friendly as well. Now for the food, this was a quick off night dinner night. The Mrs had a "daily special " burrito (beef) and it was poorly executed, the only flavor the shredded beef gave was salt. The salsa's were all very bland are just plain unacceptable from a Mexican restaurant. Arrived to find one of those fancy kiosks to order through. Selected the nachos with steak and a strawberry horchata. After about 10 min I get a text that my order is ready. Walk to the counter and he asks what I ordered, he speaks in Spanish to the cooks and they proceed to start making my nachos! Why did I get a text saying my order was ready for pickup. In all but 2.5 second I watched the cook throw a pile of chips on a plate. Squirt sour cream and guacamole on it and grab a hungrily of shredded cheese and another handful of steak and shocking just hand it to me. They didn't even melt the cheese. I give it a shot and it's terrible. I go to the counter and ask them if I can get some NACHO cheese for my nachos and he charges me $3.28 !!! How about this for a suggestion. Either warm the nachos up and melt the shredded cheese or even better just put nacho cheese on the nachos where it belongs. Bottom line the cooks take zero pride in the food and I waisted $25 today and will never return to this establishment. Better food at chipotle. read more

Nice staff, good food. I've been several times with no issues, but went in 8/13/26 3:30pm and ordered the same thing I had the week before. Enchilada Plate dinner w/drink. I just rolled with it, but when I see the receipt it's a dollar more for each enchilada. I look at the menu and it clearly says $20.99 for Chicken/Cheese/Beef. No mention of extras. When I mention it to the order-taker he just says "Sorry". It's not a huge deal about the money, but this type of inconsistently is why people do not become regular customers. So today for lunch I decided to try El Forastero. I come from SoCal so my expectations for Mexican food is really high and not too many restaurants around the Tri-Valley have been able to hit the mark. I swung through the drive through around 3:30. No one in the drive through. Ordered the 5 piece taquito. You have the option to get meat on top but I opted for only the cheese and guacamole. It cost around 12 dollars. Got to the window and it was about 5 minute wait. Service was good. No issues. I didn't go inside but they advertise a lot of their weekly specials around the windows. Overall food was good. Quick note this is a cash business and if you want to pay via card they hit you with a .45 fee. It's not a big deal to some people. In my opinion as a business owner I would never pass off any fees to do business on to my customers. Especially since you can write those off. Whatever foods is good just bring cash. read more
