They never delivered my food and didn't give me a refund!!!! Didn't even try to help me!!!

Been going down since the sale. Today, Sunday, arrived at about 4 pm, country music playing so loud in the lobby that we could not understand hostess.(Yep Country Music, thought for a few minutes we were in the wrong place). Obvious no Manager was on duty. Employees arrived and put their ties and aprons on in the dinning room, never seen that before. Food was Luke warm. Probably my last time, it just keeps going down hill and I have been eating at El Fenix since 1947, and this location since its first day. read more

I have never had food so blend in my life. I had to add salt on everything, which is rare for me to do. My boyfriend and I felt sick after dinner. I just don't understand how can you mess up Tex-Mex food. I do not recommend this place. read more

AWESOME -I love El Fenix. I've been going here my whole life starting with the original one in downtown Dallas. The one in Plano is up to par. I went on Valentine's with my two boys after going to a viewing in Richardson. The place was packed but their wasn't a wait. I was very excited because I figured on Valentine's there would be no way I would find a place to eat in a reasonable amount of time. They chips are crispy and light and the salsa is flavorful with a good amount of heat. I joined The El Fenix Club so I received a free chips and queso on this visit. I ordered beef anchos and shared it with my sone. The meat was flavorful and the beans were cooked to perfection. The wait staff was attentive especially being it was a busy night. The restaurant is clean, but the decor is dated, but thats okay because it has always looked that way. read more

My family goes to restaurants to dine in or take out. El Fenix has excellent food for both. We had eaten at another nearby Mexican restaurant recently and El Fenix out shines the other place for freshness of chips, salsas, combination plates and fabulous frozen Margaritas. read more

We live within 3 miles of this location on Hwy 183. We go there often. Chips came stale. We asked for fresh chips and waitress brought more and said they were same chips. Then, I order new Riley tacos. They were so chewey, you could not get them chewed up. Had to leave meat on plate. Ask for Mgr, lady came and apologized and took ticket. Waitress came back with ticket with $2 off. You couldn't even eat them. Oh well, we still had to pay for tacos of lettuce tomato and onion. $16.00! We won't be returning. Too bad, we liked their food and never had problems before. As bad and tired as I am of hearing this, maybe Covid or pandemic is making food suck. Goid luck! read more

Great Tex Mex! The chips and salsa are super. Lite crisp chips that have kind of a frito flavor. The salsa is VERY good. Nice and fresh, garlic-ey. YUM! My husband says it needs more heat. I say nope, it's just right. I have been trying something different each time we visit. This time it was fish tacos. I would get them again. Their rice and charro beans are super yummy as well. My husbands brisket enchiladas were DElicious! OHH! I can't forget about the margarita on the rocks. They make the best margaritas. Our server was a really good. Very nice and attentive...lovable lady. The manger was walking around checking on everyone and stopped to talk with some familiar older folks. Nice man. I enjoyed this visit better than most. read more

El Fenix - I love the chips here. They taste like fritos but are light and airy. SO good. - Mexican Near Me - Plano, Texas

We went to a 6:15 movie and were really hungry when we got out at 9:45. We wanted good Mexican food so our first thought was El Fenix. Not only were the fajita enchiladas wonderful but our waitress, Dang, was so gracious, helpful and enjoyable. Made for the perfect end to our night. Thank you! read more

Dinner was okay. Nothing outstanding or memorable. Nothing bad. Just acceptable. Chicken tortilla soup was average. A little salty, but flavorful. Always like the avocado. Serving sizes were plentiful. The Monterey special (3 tostadas) were good flavor but, beans are now off. They have gone back to making the refried beans with lard again. Warning! That means pork products. No longer vegetarian item. The server was very nice and very pleasant. We will return again. But still, average. read more

El Fenix is the classic in Tex Mex, and it's pretty hard to go wrong here. When my family and I visited last Saturday, the restaurant was a little quiet, but we were quickly seated and our waitress Amanda was with us fast. She provided excellent service the whole time through the meal. I ordered my usual fajitas and they were out fast! As for how they were, they were great, everything was fresh, and exactly what I'd expect from El Fenix. The prices are also very affordable for the portions served, and no matter what you order you'll leave full. At this particular location payment is taken at the table, though do note the restaurant does sell chips(100% worth buying) among other things, but you will need to ask to have it put on the ticket before leaving if you'd like to buy them and they'll be brought to the table. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and I already am looking forward to next time read more

For traditional no nonsense Tex Mex this place is it. Wednesday special of Enchiladas is spot on. I've been coming here over 15 years and still have the same awesome server, Dang. Dang is the server. The queso is very good too! Love this place! read more

We ordered through Doordash the morning of Cinco de Mayo for pick up that evening at 6. My husband got there at 6 and it was packed outside understandably. Long story short, he waited over an hour because no one could find our order!! I called the restaurant a few times as he waited outside and it rang and rang and no one ever picked up. Horrible service. He spoke to the manager who never once offered any sort of apology. They threw in a jar of salsa and queso. Apparently maybe to make up for the fact they didn't give us our fresh queso and guacamole. read more

What can you say? Clean, fast, good food reasonably priced. If you are looking for fancy south of the border action, this isn't it. But if you want to satisfy that quick need for Tex-Mex and placate the old facehole, pop in for a margarita and a plate of tamales. Met up with a couple of friends for lunch today. I haven't been to this location in years. They choose so we went here. They had a good amount of guest eating lunch today. We were seated pretty quickly. The chips were warm salsa was ok not spicy at all. We ordered. I had the Mexican Dinner Special. My friends ordered A Bowl of Tortilla Soup and the other had the Enchilada Dinner. Took a little while, the food came out warm not very hot at all. The food was good not very spicy as I remember. The waiter came by a few times and refilled are teas a few times. Over all experience it was a good lunch and talked about old times. read more

Dallas original never disappoints! Great service and great food, Wednesdays are enchilada day. $7.99 can't be beat.

Have been enjoying El Fenix in Plano for years. Usually take advantage of the Wednesday Enchilada specials, but last week we decided to venture to El Fenix on another evening. BIG MISTAKE. They had limited wait personnel that evening, maybe 2 people attempting to wait on everyone that evening. More bus staff then wait staff. Their kitchen staff may have also been short, as I ordered the Veggie Enchilada plate, the food was not even hot, the plate was cold to the touch. This was not the first time that we have received food that was cold. By the time that you can get the wait staff back to your table to tell them about how cold the food is they don't want to believe you because it has been so long since you have been served. I don't like the taste of Plano water, so I always request "lemons" to drown out the chemical taste of the city water, I order the them when I place my request for the water, I requested it again when the wait staff served the water and when he brought out the appetizer that we had requested. Surprise I never received the lemon, I would have requested limes if I thought they would have served them. The manager could not be found, usually one of the shift managers are around in sight, but since they have done away with the cashier and the wait staff is the cashier also you don't see the shift manager at all anymore. The wait staff being a cashier, is hopeless, they don't have the machines that will print your receipt at the tables, the wait staff has to retrieve the receipt which means more of a wait. Since restaurants have opened up again, there has been such a decline in most of them, the food quality and the service have all deteriorated so drastically, I don't think the food industry will ever really recover. Maybe it is because we can get food delivered faster than we can get it served in the restaurant itself. The atmosphere is much more pleasant, seats covers are not torn, tables not wobbly. There is no food on the floor from prior customers. read more

Sick on Saturday. NO, But at least you can get Mexican food delivery. I know there are a lot of new Mexican food restaurants in the area but I went back to an old favorite , El Fenix. I received the same great food and service that they are famous for. Wow. Hot tacos. Hot enchiladas. Hot tamales. All Tex Mex plus. So if you find yourself in the mood for Tex Mex "stay in". "go out". Think El Felix. Delivery was outstanding. read more

Good food and fast service. I don't know what they put in the salsa, but wow, it's so good! I couldn't stop eating the chips and salsa. I had to force myself to stop in fact to actually eat the actual meal. They have awesome lunch specials and I happen to come in on enchilada Wednesdays. It's hard to beat 2 enchiladas with rice and beans for only $5.99. I'll definitely be back for more! read more

El fenix used to be our favorite take out. HOWEVER, over the last 6 months the portions have been getting smaller and smaller. Our favorites were the enchiladas. Now I don't think there's even 1 oz of filling in each one. Side orders of guacamole have also become very much smaller. Twice we have received enchiladas that were empty....hollow!! Very sad to see this happen. We won't be ordering from here any longer. read more

A very traditional feeling Mexican restaurant. I got the Juarez plate, one of their family specials. The specials are just combo meals with some selection of a burrito, taco, enchilada, etc... I liked it though, nothing to complain about. read more

Everything is well worn and needed replaced long ago. Staff was mechanical and not welcoming. Just going through the motions. food is so bland and thrown together. Ordered online. Ordered chicken tacos but found out when I got home that they put in beef. I also ordered the guacamole queso combo that comes with a spicy queso (so good). The guacamole was missing and the queso was a plain queso. I went back and they fixed the chicken and guacamole but said they now changed the queso to plain queso. I am annoyed that they didn't change the price or anything on the menu but it's now different. The girl up front was really nice and she took care of the mistake really quickly. Bring back firey queso! read more

Food is always fresh & comes out pretty fast. The chips & salsa is always fresh and the margaritas are bomb!!

Ordered the special Fiesta Burritos and were quite disappointed. There is very little meat inside and it was overfilled with rice and beans. So basically you get a double order of rice and beans with a few tiny hunks of meat. Normally we like this place and have eaten here for years, but if you are considering the burrito special, pay the extra for something better. read more

I have been an El Fenix customer for over 40 years. My wife and I have been to very few dine in restaurants since the pandemic. All except this El Fenix have practiced proper protocols. The tables were close enough that I could touch them. When we arrived I thought that they would seat every other table. As more customers arrived they filled the tables. A large family arrived and they seated 8 at one table right next to us and another right behind us of 5. We got up and left our meal complained to the hostess at the front counter and she said ... "this is the way the owners want to do this ... we do not have any choice" We have a choice. read more

Went for lunch and got a marg and fajitas. Margarita tasted like it had no alcohol at all in it. Fajitas came with raw onions and peppers and were seasoned very weird. I don't like to post negative posts but for the price I spent and what I got, I won't be coming back. read more

Had a wonderful meal here! Our waitress Dang was so attentive and sweet! Happy hour is highly recommended.

My family and I were seated in a corner table by windows and we were sweating. Had to be reseated. Queso was bland. I ordered the jalapeño margarita and they dice up the jalapeño and added the seeds into the drink. Undrinkable for me. My steak fajita nachos had no taste. Fajita meat tasted frozen. My family's steak and chicken fajitas had no taste and were described as gross. We left hungry. read more

After visiting perhaps over two dozen different Mexican restaurants in the DFW area alone, I have to say this El Fenix should be called El Stinx. I won't lie to you, the food was meh, the wait service was meh, and the restaurant itself was a bit dirty. Alright, lets start from the beginning. We were seated promptly, and served chips/salsa/beverages immediately. The chips are absolutely fantastic, and the salsa here is pretty top notch. Out of everywhere I've ever been to, I think I prefer El Fenix chips and salsa over everyone else. This is where it goes downhill. While the Waiter was nice, it took him forever to take our order. He'd walk by several times, and not say anything. I had to make sure our menus were closed and I had to flag him down before he took our lunch order. We ordered a small side of queso, and a lunch special each. The queso was alright, but not anything fantastic. I would have been happier staying with the complimentary chips and salsa. Our lunches came pretty promptly there after, which made me wonder why the plates were too hot to handle in any reasonable manner. To put it into perspective, it couldn't have been more than 10 minutes after we ordered that our lunches arrived. There should have been no need for them to be under a heat lamp. There wasn't a need for them to be under a broiler to melt cheese, because we didn't have anything that merited that. The only answer I could come up was a microwave. Beyond the extremely hot plate, there were also some more clues. The included refried beans were completely dry on top, as were the rice. When I ran my fork through them, steam escaped like nobody's business. Also, the inside of my enchiladas were beyond hot. I realize that freshly cooked food is hot, but if you've ever microwaved something long enough, you know that it reaches a temperature that is horrific. That was this temperature. Lastly, this place was kinda dirty. And I'm not talking about going to the bathroom and seeing someone's mess. That is something they can't control. We were seated in a booth, which was adjacent to a nice wall mural. Under the mural was a set of tiles. Both the mural and the tiles were just plain filthy. Now, I understand that the mural would be hard to clean depending on the materials used... but they should figure something out. Abd the tiles underneath, which only need a damp cloth to clean, hadn't been touched in god knows how long. Grime literally rubbed off on my napkin. So I don't think I'll be coming to this El Fenix again. I'm willing to try a different one, but I don't care how cheap they are, it shouldn't replace quality. If all I care about is price, I'll just go to Taco Bueno. But when I go to a place that should have quality food and environment, I expect it. read more
