The food was good as it always is but this time the service was amazing. Our waitresses name was, Dang, and we never had to ask for a refill or anything. She was right on top of it. Definitely will be back to this location and hopefully we get the same waitress. read more

Last night, I ordered 3 enchilada dinners, one each of Beef, Chicken, and Cheese. This is per the El Fenix website for To-Go Orders which states $5.99 Enchilada Dinners ALL DAY EVERY DAY (see my picture). This was going to be around $20 before tip. After driving 20 to pick up my order, the curbside attendant brought out my order and told me it was going to be $29.19. I told her what the special was on the website, again all day every day, and she told me that it must have been a "Facebook Special" that had expired(!). I again told her that it is on the El Fenix website, not Facebook. Again, she told me that ($29.19) was the price. This was ridiculous - completely ignored their posted price on the EF website, did not attempt to rectify THEIR ERROR!. BTW, I told her I would not be paying. read more

My family and I visited for the first time since living in Texas. I must say the service was fast, very friendly! Our servers Jose and Mary were very attentive and made sure we were comfortable! The salsa and chips were a big hit for my family, being from California I swear by the salsa provided in Mexican restaurants will determine how good the food will be. I got the ElJefe, my husband got the steak fajitas, my daughter got the tamale on the kids menu and my picky son got the chicken strips lol and ordered more before our departure. We had to get some salsa to go it was that good! We got some yummy treats afterwards. Thanks Mary and Jose for your great customer service! We will be back soon! Come for the food, not the ambiance. We stopped here on a Sunday night when the Cowboys were playing so naturally it was dead but thought it would be a little lively or the gam would be on in the background. Negative. It just gave me a case of the sads. Luckily their food is bomb and the chips and salsa cured my El Fenix depression. The staff was on it, chips and salsa refills galore and were quick with refills. We ordered queso and it tasted like something out of a can....when did that happen? Whenever I've had their queso in the past it has been wonderful! Tamale trio was on point and enough for two meals and Jesus was an awesome server. Other than that, I don't see myself coming back here to eat in, I will stick to catering and ordering to go. read more

One of my favorite Tex Mex places! Free chips and salsa (and the salsa is not as spicy as on the border). Lots of good vegetarian options, and they are good with substitutions. I always get the veggie enchiladas and swap the rice with the salad, and I've never gone wrong. The service is quick and the food arrives sizzling. Docking off a star because the salad could have been fresher and the tomatillo sauce could have more flavor. But overall, great texmex and there's a reason why this place is so packed all the time. This is a split review. The food was good. Not great; not bad, but pretty good. Three stars at least. The service was horrible. Minus 3 stars at least. When I arrived, I waited several minutes at the hostess station to be seated. Finally someone came over and I requested a table. He said they have no tables. I looked around and there were only 2 customers in the restaurant and many open tables. I pointed out that there were several tables and he finally asked me which one I wanted. The server came over a few minutes later and brought chips and salsa and took the order. A few minutes later he returned with the food. He walked off as I asked for silverware. We were never given silverware or napkins. I finally got silverware. He never returned to check on us even though my water glass was empty. Again, the food was very good, but the service was horific. read more

Wrong food from what I ordered 2. Food ice cold (live 6 minutes away) 3. Enchiladas burned on bottoms- couldn't cut with knife Conclusion: they aren't paying people enough to stick around and are not adequately training new workers. Lots of other options. I'll use them. Yikes I thought the El Fenix in Grapevine was horrible...this one in Plano might've taken it to a whole new level. It honestly feels like unless you go to the Lemmon Ave or the Downtown Dallas location, you might as well not eat at El Fenix anymore. We came here today because it was close to some errands that we are running in the Plano area. Upon entering the restaurant we had to wait a few moments for someone to even acknowledge that we had arrived. Once we were seated our order was taken rather quickly but that was a long wait during a time that the restaurant was not busy. That is usually not a good sign and that was definitely not a good sign today. I ordered a create your own combo meal consisting of a sour cream and Chilada and two tacos. How do you get that wrong?It was absolutely horrible. We also ordered an appetizer platter and I could not believe how bad the chicken and beef flautas on it were. I am always amused by waitstaff Who see that you've barely eaten any of your food and do not even ask you if your meal was OK. When we checked out the cashier asked if everything was OK and I said that that would be a generous review. She did not ask anything further just said the amount that I owed. My personal advice would be to go to one of the many other Mexican restaurants around town. read more

Just left here and am extremely disappointed. Our waiter Jose lost my father in law's credit card, and just shrugged and said he couldn't find it. The manager Mary was dismissive and said, they looked for it but couldn't find it. We had to stop her to get her to discuss with us, she repeatedly ignored us even though we were standing in the middle of the restaurant, obviously needing assistance. These things happen, but it could have been handled with apologies and taking some initiative. She didn't even ask for his name and number in case they found it- we had to ask if she would write this down in case it turned up! We won't be back and we will certainly share this experience with others. read more

Met with some friends for dinner. Quickly seated at 6 pm on a Tuesday. Drink orders quickly taken and after 15 min, came back to get our food orders. I had the Tuesday Taco special of shredded Chicken, rice and black beans with a Sweet Tea. Everything was great and don't you really like it when they bring you a fresh drink before requesting it. That one came home with me. Haha. Service was awesome! Parking is easy in their large lot. COVID-19 protocols are being followed by all staff with masks, also wearing gloves as well. I can deal with it once, but not twice- so I emailed them through their website, and there was no response at all. So I unsubbed from their emails and am leaving this review. A Restaurant that doesn't care about the customer's concerns us t going to make any positive changes. (Such as caps for kitchen staff). Weird experience from start to finish. Walked in and the hosting situation was bizarre. Seemed to be confusion between the hostess and manager about which 8 party was there to be seated. Our party of two and another party stood there mostly unacknowledged. We were sat right away which seemed to be part of the problem. Initial service was fine and no real issues. Manager came to take our order as it seemed maybe the waitress was getting behind. However, she went from our order and rushed to seat more people that they clearly couldn't service in a timely fashion. Queso was super bland but edible with the addition of some salsa for flavor. Our meals came out with only 1 mistake which we were unable to even ask about as the manager dropped our plates and ran to ring out customers. Meanwhile we were out of water and I wanted a Diet Coke. I walked to the bar area to see if there was a water pitcher as we had waited so long I was too thirsty to start eating. I was able to walk around and find our waitress to ask for water. Food was fine. I think there is obviously a market for bland mexican food as they had plenty of business, but I would rather go to a hole in the wall taqueria or even Rosa's has more flavor. Table behind us asked to take their food to go because they waited so long. First time at El Fenix and definitely my last. Bottom line is food was mediocre at best, service was lousy, and it clearly has ongoing management issues as a read a review similar to mine from 5 months ago. Dont waste your money here. read more

El Fenix is the oldest Mexican chain in the United States. It was established in 1918 and from then on until this day the restaurant's decor may have changed over the years to keep up with Dallas modernization, the recipe stayed the same. The Martinez family really have taken good care of it. That's probably the major factor why they are still serving food, good food. I've lived in TX for more than 10 years now and yesterday was the first time I've dined in El Fenix. Chips and salsa were brought out and we went ahead and ordered a couple of their house margarita which have won 3 years in a row as best in Dallas. At my first sip of their famous (cheap $4.49) house margarita, I started questioning my self how in the hell I've never dined here before. It was refreshing and perfectly mixed. We then ordered food. I had the Blanco enchiladas topped with green chiles and they were awesome and not to forget the side Mexican rice. It was one of the best I've had. I will definitely come back for the Rita's and to try other food items in their menu. Lastly, service was great and fast. read more

I was excited to try this place since being new to the area. I figured with 100 years of experience that it would be amazing....but it wasn't. The food was decent but the service was poor. The waitress was not friendly and would disappear for 5-10 minutes at a time and you could never find her. And that was before we even ordered. I will say that the chips were amazing and so was the smoked queso so that is what's giving this 3 stars. Overall if you go don't expect much and you'll be fine. Pro tip: Be sure to get the sampler if you aren't sure what to get as an app. It's good to share and will give you an idea of what to get again if you ever come back. read more

I was back in Texas after a long absence and needed a genuine TexMex fix. I ended up at El Fenix with some local friends. The food hit the spot. The chips are excellent and we ate a lot of them. The salsa is a bit bland and I would have preferred more spice, however. I had a Patron margarita which was a generous pour and was excellent. I wanted to try everything so I got the El Fenix dinner which had a crispy taco, two tamales, a cheese enchilada, guacamole, and the usual beans and rice. This was a lot of food (I like the fact that they list the calories in each offering but I exceeded my daily limit with this dinner). Service was very good. We had no room left for desert. Prices are moderate. Service was excellent. All in all a nice experience and I would return. read more

We moved about 2 hrs from the metroplex so have come to appreciate it even more now that our weekly visits aren't possible! Normally I am a huge El Fenix fan. However today's lunch experience today was really bad. We didn't have a server until after we had sat down for 15 minutes. Meanwhile subsequent diners got drinks and chips and placed their orders. Okay, so we thought maybe it was because they were just busy. When we finally did order, the food was not good (crunchy tacos were soft). We had to ask the bus boy for drink refills as we never saw a server again. Fortunately we live in Texas and there are no shortage of great Tex-Mex restaurants. I'm just sorry this location has removed from our list..... Update - the Manager called me and we discussed our experience above. I appreciate them calling and talking with me and for addressing. I am increasing my review as a result. read more
