Ordered for the first time and couldn't have been more disappointed. I ordered a burrito with chicken, beans, cheese, sour cream and rice. They sent a soggy burrito with chicken, tomatoes and lettuce. They also did not include the beans and rice that were supposed to be included in a quesadilla meal. I called and was put on hold for 7 minutes and then when I told them what was wrong, the helpful guy told me that they couldn't send out the correct food. So sorry, but basically we don't care. Do not order from these guys. Who knows what you'll get, but it won't be the correct items. read more

Took one bite and asked for my money back. Went to Zacatacos instead. Torta was so burnt I showed the waitress how it was just charred meat. The reply... "that's how we make it". The steak in the taco had to be 3/4 days old. I know el faro isn't known for their lunch, more for their 3 am food. But come on. Have some respect for the food you serve. I'm being generous with a second star only because the staff is very friendly, the restaurant is clean and the food was prepared quickly and was served hot. That's where the compliments end. My steak burrito was the absolute worst I've ever had. The meat was greasy and fatty. The only flavor--no seasoning, no char--was a weird, overpowering taste of cinnamon. Add to that a microscopic amount of lettuce, tomato and cheese and wrap it in a stale tortilla. Next time I want an El Faro burrito, I'll get wasted and Uber to the original in Summit at 2am. As for #2 (appropriately named), it's not worth the three block walk. read more

I came here and got the Chile's rellenos. They had a good flavor but were in a pile of oil. The rice tasted like it was bad already. The tortillas were microwaved. They were al stiff and could tell they were old. They made a quesadilla was microwaved to melt the cheese... this faro is nothing compared to the other faro. Not worth the quality. read more

This is by far the worst Mexican food I ever had. Ordered a taco dinner steak and pork very greasy low end meat. The rice was tasteless and the beans were horrible. The husband and I had high hopes. We both grew up north side Chicago and we miss the authentic Mexican restaurants. I ordered a breakfast steak burrito and let me tell you how disgusting it was. For starters the "steak" looked like ground beef and nothing but fat. I couldn't even eat it. And They have a hot sauce bar with two sauces we will stick to zacatacos. I placed a very simple order online: steak burrito with everything and steak taco dinner with cheese and avocado. I got a message it would be ready in 10 minutes. Waited almost 40 minutes for food. Brought my food home and it was cold. Tortillas were hard. No cheese in tacos. I will never come back. Ridiculous. read more

Went at end of lunch 100pm no line and I ordered a chicken Torta. Finally! I got the Tortas like I used to get toasted bun (not stale) soft full of everything I added some salsa verde delicious. The salsa bar has the carrots and peppers there they were exactly like I like them crunchy and tasty. read more

I had a very bad experience this past weekend, on the phone I placed an order for Menudo and asked for Hominy and he asked me if I wanted the foot(pata) and I said yes also I asked for 2 chicken tacos, I shortly picked up my order when I got home the Menudo had no Hominy and no foot(pata) also the chicken in the taco was dried with no flavor, I called immediately and explained what happened to me and he apologized but couldn't do anything about and took my phone number for a Manager to call me this Tuesday and never received a call at all, I took it upon myself to call El Faro II and spoke to a Manager Martha and I explained my issue and she said I never got charged for the Hominy and there was no more foot(pata) left and I responded the guy on the phone didn't disclose that to me but he apologized. Martha began to give me an attitude telling me she can't replace the order because I never got charged for the Hominy and I repeatedly said that's not the point I didn't get what I ordered and was unhappy and her attitude got worst and I commented all Mexican Restaurants always put Hominy in a Menudo including in Mexico and I also mentioned other Mexican Restaurants locally and she responded "why don't I go there then" finally I asked her what can we do to resolve this and she said she'll give me two tacos and I responded I'm concerned about the Menudo and she replied "I'm not going to replace the Menudo free no way" then her attitude escalated and I said I would give a bad review and rating and she answered "that's fine" with no remorse or make a customer happy. This restaurant is never busy at all on an every day basis and I advise people that know Mexican food not to eat there and poor customer service with a poor Manager with attitude. read more

We come here often. Tacos are inexpensive and the food quality is superb. The owners are super nice hard working people. They really care about their customers and share the love of tacos and burritos with their customers every day. The salsa bar is a nice touch with an assortment of salsa. I prefer El Faro over Zacotaco for price and quality any day. Keep up the good work as we love the food and staff that are always pleasant. read more

Stopped for take out tonight. Service was quick and friendly but the food was horrible. The steak was in huge chunks, dry, overcooked and full of fat. The chicken was flavorless like it was boiled and used to make chicken stock, and it had bones in it. The beans and rice were also flavorless and the rice was dry and overcooked. We threw almost all of it in the garbage. I'd give it zero stars if I could. read more

I was excited to see El Faro opening within walking distance of my house but this is no original. I expected the same food from the original El Faro in Summit, not too much to ask. Sadly this location didn't meet my modest expectation. The food was too greasy and the meat just tasted off. My daughter took 2 bites out of her steak taco and took a pass. My reaction was quite that harsh but if I'm craving an El Faro burrito in the future, I'll be giving this location a pass and driving to the original one in Summit. read more

We tried El Faro on Harlem last weekend and were sorely disappointing. I ordered chiles rellenos dinner which came with no sauce. NONE. Nada. My chiles were bare naked. When I asked about sauce they said to use the salsa from the salsa bar. My husband ordered enchiladas which came out with mole sauce that was commercially made. It was good, but not as good as the homemade mole from La Estancia in downtown Riverside a half mile away. The thing is, that for the same price, you can get real Mexican food made from scratch at La Estancia. And served with excellent service. I want to support local businesses, but I will choose to spend my money at the best ones. I have traveled throughout Mexico, and lived in New Mexico for years, and I have never, ever, been served a chile relleno without sauce of some kind. Salsa does not fill that role. Also enchiladas are made with enchilada sauce, not mole sauce unless stated so on the menu. So we will be going to La Estancia in the future. BTW, the salsas were good. The food wasn't that great. I prefer La Lupitas or Zacatacos. I ordered a burrito and it seemed to be the same size as any other burrito from Zacatacos, although it's big enough. The steak was chewy. Chips were not very good. Also we ordered to dine in and I ordered chips and salsa at first and they made a charge for chips and salsa..before I paid, I changed it to chips and guac and he fixed the price to reflect that and then proceeds to tell me they have a chip and salsa bar if I still want chips and salsa... so it had me questioning why he originally was going to charge me for chips and salsa when it's free if you're dining in (which again, he knew because he asked when we first started the order)... it's like he tried to act like he was being nice by telling me it was there but he should have done that from the start instead of originally trying to charge for it before I changed it to guac... read more

So, I'm really disappointed in this place. I've had the one in Summit and was always satisfied. So when this one opened I was glad because it was closer and anticipated trying it. Let's start with the staff, everyone seems to be frantic and confused. Additionally, they don't know which order is going to which customer, customers who literally just ordered minutes before for takeout. Then I saw plates being sent back up from dine in customers that I assumed were incorrect from the chatter I heard. You have a window into the kitchen, which I think is great, but not when your kitchen and front of house staff can't get on the same page. Nevertheless these are kinks that must get worked out. It really just comes down to better attention to detail. Now, the food, honestly extremely disappointed. Tacos were wrapped up together so everything was stuck together and soggy for two tacos, no dinner. The quesadillas were stacked on top of each other and wrapped in foil so again, had to pull apart and it just ruined the presentation and you couldn't eat them with enjoyment. Taco dinner was actually in a foam container so it was presentable. The burrito, disgusting. It was like two pounds of grease. Sometimes it comes down to opinion but if the tortilla is so soggy and everything is falling out, how can anyone enjoy that?! They forgot my side order of rice. They didn't charge me for a $3 side carrot cup and the guy who took my order made it seem like he was doing me a favor by not charging. Honestly, charge me and make the food and service better.
