Needed a last minute dinner reservation in Sonoma area, decided on the Alvarado since I have been there before a couple times. It's a nice big open floor plan on the ground floor of a small Hotel right on the square. Parking was easy across the street. I got the reservation for the time I wanted too. We received at a table but discovered that we were pretty far part of each other and it wasn't the best place for us. I asked if we could move to another table and they requested that about any problems. We got we got the seat. We wanted and ordered dinner, which were to first course options and two Main course. The food was good. Even though it is considered expensive. We didn't have anything to drink because we were out of wine tasting already. So that brought the Bill down to a level. That was not a problem. This is a good place to go whether it's by yourself, or groups, or with children. I stopped here for lunch after spending time at a Napa Winery. I ate outdoors in their very nice patio area. I ordered the tuna poke bowl and a Spanish cidra. The bowl was a perfect balance of veggies, seeds, seaweed, rice, vinaigrette, and poke. It was a perfect lunch. I ordered the cidra because after plenty of wine tastings I preferred to go to something low in alcohol before moving on to the next winery in Sonoma. Plus, I'm a big Spanish cidra fan. We came here for a wedding rehearsal lunch, and it was quite delicious! The appetizers were a bit cold when we arrived despite having come early, but they were still delicious. I got the lobster roll which seemed a bit unconventional since it looked more like a sandwich and had bacon as well, but the lobster was juicy. The creme brulee also seemed more like a flan. I didn't actually realize that this place is also a hotel. After we got lucky with a park in the Sonoma Square, we walked across the street to El Dorado. When we entered yesterday I got an upscaled and modern kind of vibe to this place. We were struggling a little bit with trying to find breakfast around 9am so when we entered and saw a whole room empty we were happy for the availability. The hostess in front greeted us right away and sat us immediately. Our waiter offered us drinks and not much longer after that we were ordering. Overall I was very impressed with the experience. It's always a leap of faith to try a new restaurant and im just glad that per usual, the restaurant was as solid as the reviews. I did try a couple bites of my girls hash and thought it was tasty. My French Toast was pretty good as well. I think I enjoyed the texture of the bread the most. I always enjoy when the bread of French Toast is thicker than usual. The flavor was good too. The amount of syrup they give you is the perfect amount. The fact that you are able to have such good flavor with little syrup is a good sign for dish. Though there wasn't anything that blew me out the park, I really appreciated how carefully prepared everything was put together. I definitely would be curious to see what lunch or dinner would be like. read more

We went for lunch. I saw this restaurant on Happy Cow and lots of reviews mentioned a vegan bowl yet nothing on the lunch menu seems to be vegan. I was trying to piece together ingredients before speaking to the server and they said they "might" be able to add tofu to the tostada. I didn't see tofu on the menu at all but they did do a tofu tostada sans the dairy ingredients. It was good. I am not sure why they don't make a designated vegan entree when they do have tofu? Seems weird and after inviting 5 people here with me for lunch I was getting nervous when I didn't see this "vegan bowl" anywhere in sight. They have chickpeas in another dish (and sometimes tofu???) so all the ingredients seem to be there to charge us $29 for a vegan dish. The cocktails were good. The service was just ok. I'd skip when in town again and look for something better until they update their menu. read more

Four friends met at EDK for lunch yesterday (Saturday), including a good sized wedding party! Great looking Bride's dress! The place was pre-Covid hoppin', which was wonderful to see. Our waiter is Jordie. He did a great job, not hovering, very good at his job. I had steak and fries, medium rare. Two crab sandwiches, a veggie fritatta, couple of Cokes, and 2 excellent desserts. The atmosphere is clean upscale that could be for an adult outing or a great date night, has an open kitchen concept. Horrible horrible dinner. We live in Sonoma and this has been our go to restaurant for years. The last two times we ate here were bad. Carbonara was the consistency of soup had to send it back twice. Revised EDK and clearly need to do midweek lunch more often. Starting with Cynthia providing exceptional service and a couple cocktails, Gin Gypsy for me and spicy tequila for dining partner. Entire menu looked great and debated ordering a few apps, scallops, ceviche etc but gave the lobster sandwich and tuna poke a go. We were slightly skeptical of a non traditional lobster roll turned sandwich but the combo of lobster claw meat, bacon, jalapeño vinaigrette and apple was incredible on perfect brioche bun. Tuna poke was enough for to share, very fresh ahi, radish, avocado, seaweed salad over nicely seasoned rice. Will definitely be back on the patio for lunch soon. EDK for the win. read more

The food is amazing. Tastes even better than it looks. Was served promptly. Service was exceptional. Nice ambiance, easy parking and reasonable pricing. But the stairs at the entrance are dangerous. I almost fell on them. My wife actually fell, completely, sideways. She scraped her right arm and blood came out. When I drew the front desk staff to her injury, he showed zero empathy. The place is located in downtown Sonoma near the square. The hotel was closed for renovations when we went but the restaurant was open. The place is really nice and elegant. Definitely a high end feel. Our waiter was great and service was excellent. This prices were a little on the high side; but the food was SO GOOD! We ordered: TRUFFLE FRIES: sprinkled with shaved Parmesan. Very tasty. Normally, I eat a few fries and I'm done; but I finished it off! BEET SALAD: I didn't see much dressing but I was surprised how tasty it was! All the beets were hidden under the arugula. BURRATA w/PESTO: This came with a few crostinis. This dish actually didn't have much taste. My friend and I was expecting a strong pesto taste but you couldn't taste anything. I don't know if the chef used something that neutralized the pesto but there really wasn't much taste. I love burrata so I still loved it. All the appetizers we got were delicious. The only thing I don't like about star ratings is they are an average. In this case the food and ambiance were good to excellent but the service was almost non existent! Our drinks took thirty minutes to get to the table. The food took so long, almost an hour. We had to order an additional drink to pass the time. Now if the plan is to hold the food to increase beverage sales, it's a bad strategy. The water bottle sat empty for 20-30 minutes after two reminders that we needed water. This has never happened at EDK but then we had not seen this waiter on previous visits. I know it wasn't his fault the back room efforts were just not up to par. Not to be political but the back room services are primarily Latino and ICE would make me hesitant to come to work! In any case every things were slow in coming. The food was good for the most part but the Lobster Sandwhich was excellent. Copious amounts of tasty, perfectly grilled lobster with a delicious garish. The down side was that it was so good I had to share a bite with my daughter and my date! They loved it. The Ramos Fizz was the best in Sonoma. Many establishments say they know how to make one but it's just not true. I highly recommend it here for a brunch pairing. read more

This was our 2nd visit to El Dorado Kitchen. Last time I was left a bit underwhelmed by the food and drinks but the service was good. This time we had the inverse experience. My partner wanted to revisit ED on our trip to see if last time was an off night for the kitchen. This visit we were pleased with everything that we ordered, from the drinks to the main courses. Our drinks this time were excellent. Our starter was the ahi tuna tartare which was pretty standard but good. I had the filet mignon, which at first glance seemed a bit small but I left full. My partner had the seafood paella which was very generous in size. Everything was delish. Our server seemed very young and inexperienced (a bit immature perhaps). He took our order and got it right. Checked on us once, but that was it. No expanding on the offerings. Nothing approaching fine dining. He seemed more interested in socializing with his coworkers. The food was good but the "experience" making level of service was absent. 3.5 stars out of 5 read more

We came here on a Saturday night while spending the weekend in Sonoma. It was recommended by a friend who's a local. When we got there, it was poppin. Seemed to be a popular place with both locals and it appeared a few events were going on as well. We sat outside in the patio which was nice and quieter than the inside. I've been here many times and this place is a hidden gem IMO. The food is ALWAYS consistently good. My current favorite is their Paella. The crispy saffron rice makes this one shine along with the fresh seafood. I also had their waffle and fried chicken...also delish! And last but not least is their truffle fries. Must have with garlic aoili. Hotel El D is in the Sonoma Square so you can take a nice walk around the square to do some shopping or enjoy the park. Great location! The restaurant has a nice patio for when the days are beautiful, and plenty of seating inside. Big groups no problem here. The wait staff is top notch so no worries about service. If you want a place you can get great food, but not worried about getting a res this place is it. I hear dinner is even better. Highly recommend. read more

El Dorado Kitchen was able to accomodate our large party of 11 last minute, and for that I'm super thankful! We had a mishap with a reservation at a restaurant across the street (turns out we booked the wrong location, so totally our fault!) and we were stuck in downtown Sonoma with nowhere to go for dinner on a Saturday night. Luckily, El Dorado Kitchen was able to accomodate us! In a private room no less! The space was a really cute front room that looks to be used as a small bar typically. We ordered a bunch of things to share which ended up working well for us. Some favorites were the shishito peppers, burrata, and truffles fries. The spicy margarita was also a favorite Our server, Mike, did a fantastic job accommodating our large group, and was very friendly and welcoming! A friend and I shared the flat iron steak for our main. Unfortunately this missed the mark for me, it was a little bland. This was my first time going to the El Dorado Kitchen. What a lovely experience. We sat at a table located on the outside patio. It was surrounded by plants and trees. It was a beautiful day in Sonoma. We stayed for hours so as the sun warmed up the patio, the team of staff ensured the umbrellas were raised and our drinks were full. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. The burrata was served over a marmalade, it fresh and the perfect texture. Absolutely delicious! My friends enjoyed the mushroom flatbread. My friends reported the shrimp ceviche was overrated. My friend reported the seafood was not fresh but the rest of the ingredients were. We shared the vanilla crème brûlée- it was delectable- I wished I had ordered one just for myself! The crème brûlée was served on a shortbread cookie and sorbet on the side. It was a rich, sweet, creamy luscious dessert! Location: It is located in the El Dorado Hotel, facing the square. Parking: There is general parking for the square and street parking. If you are ever in Sonoma, I recommend you stop by for a light lunch or dessert. Based on our experience during lunch, I imagine the evening service and food are just as lovely. read more

I recently dined at El Dorado Kitchen for a friend's birthday and was extremely impressed by the service. The team helped get us seated early when we arrived ahead of schedule, recognized the occasion without drawing attention, and helped my friend's parents cover our first round of drinks even though they weren't present. One of my friends has celiac and the team was attentive to this. Now for the food. The drink menu offered creative cocktails as well as a full bar for staple drinks. I got a brown butter old fashioned that is definitely worth a try if you're an old fashioned fan. We started with a Caesar salad and Brussels sprouts for the table. The Brussels were AMAZING and the salad was tasty, though not my favorite presentation. I ordered the steak frites, which compared to how my friends enjoyed their dishes I wouldn't necessarily recommend. The fries were incredibly basic for the price and the steak was slightly undercooked (fine by me honestly, but not for everyone) and somewhat tough. It was still tasty, but I think for this menu there are better choices. Everyone else loved their dishes and everything in the restaurant smelled amazing. read more

Joined my gal friends for a Sunday brunch. The ambience was perfect for our girls' gathering. We ordered the Burrata, Brussels Sprouts and Beet salad to share. All were fabulous, but had to say, the Brussels Sprouts were my favorite! For my main meal, I ordered the tuna poke bowl. It had a perfect blend of radish, tuna, sea salad and sauces to make a delicious, light Sunday brunch meal. As an option, you can order fresh greens instead of the rice.
