    Mofungo and Pork
    Brenda J.

It is Food Truck Friday! This truck has a variety of choices at reasonable prices. There offer cuban, steak and fish sandwiches. I opted for the mofungo and pork dish. Mofungo is plantains with spices and it was very flavorful. It was served with a ketchup mayo sauce that was a little spicy and I also wanted hot sauce and they also had siracha. The fried pork was cut in large chunks that were tender and well seasoned with garlic and spices. The food was served promptly and staff was courteous. The serving was enough for two people. Enjoyed this meal!

    The cheese fries, undercooked.

At this week's WineART Wednesdays at Downtown Lake Mary, the truck selection leaned heavily towards Cuban and Creole food, and while my party split up, I found myself gravitating towards the El Cubanito Subs truck. Maybe my mistake was that I didn't order a sub, because unlike many other reviewers here, I did not have a good experience. I wanted something filling but did not want to wait a long time, so I opted for a beef empanada and a side of cheese fries, thinking that these were premade items that just had to be cooked. While it ended up that they were, I still waited a good 10 minutes before I got my food. The beef empanada dough was flaky and fried until crisp on the outside, but the inside was full of grease; after just one bite and I was covered from hand to elbow in it. The cheese fries were very undercooked, but I had waited long enough to get them and did not want to go back to exchange them. My mom ordered a pork sub and seemed to enjoy it, and I did enjoy the sauce for the empanada and the cheese, as well. I most likely won't be returning to the El Cubanito Subs truck, as after my experience I don't know if I have enough faith that their subs are any better than the food I received last night.

A few days ago I heard about this stand in the industrial area on Forsyth road between Colonial Drive and University. I went to check it out yesterday. El Cubanito food truck is owned and operated by a guy from Cuba, but surprisingly only being one guy he has a huge menu and many food options worth checking out. It's located in the dirt parking lot of an Wilson Auto Repair, look for the umbrella on the truck and the boat trailers all around the parking lot. Parking seems to be pretty random and no one seems to mind where you park in the lot. Often you have to stand up and eat at these food trucks but not here, he even has a tent covering the eating area. Luckily I got there when he wasn't busy and I was able to take a lot of photos and chat with him for a bit using a bit of my Spanglish and he his passable English, he's been open 6 months. One of my favorite things that people from PR and Cuba make is Lechon or Pernil which is roasted pork usually cooked with lots of garlic in a blood orange sauce. El Cubanito serves a Lechon Cuban sandwich and I almost ordered it but the Choripan sandwich($3.95) caught my eye. I asked him about it and he said it was real Cuban Chorizo which is different from the Mexican kind I'm used to, apparently it has a firmer texture and in this sandwich he had cut it up into curly strips and cooked it on his griddle. The sandwich itself was a little dry for my taste but you could easily alleviate that by putting some mustard on it or dipping it in his soup of the day. It came with my choice of cheese and potato sticks on it. To drink I had a super sweet can of Guava Nectar, he has other canned fruit drinks soda and water. Next I ordered some Platanos Maduros, the sweet fried plantains served at every Cuban restaurant. They were sweet and tender as expected. Although the menu described some desserts he was out of the Flan and the Cuban cupcake so this led me to explore the extensive menu a little more and ask him what Batitos were. Turns out they are the Cuban version of a milkshake or smoothie. They are made in a blender with a little milk and some frozen fruit. My options were Guava a few other tropical fruits but I ordered Passion Fruit(luckily I remembered the Spanish word for this, Parcha). It was real thick and tasty, while I was drinking it a couple groups of people showed up and ordered the Cuban Milkshakes as well. Overall a great experience and I hope to go back and explore the menu further especially the omelet sandwich which he has a picture of that looks amazing! He's open Mon-Sat 7am-7pm and also serves breakfast. Make sure you check out the pictures of the menu. 2237 N Forsyth Rd Orlando, FL 32807-5351 (305)305-7438

In the mood for a Cuban sandwich, I went through my mental rolodex of Cuban places I haven't been to yet. It was either Vegas Cafe or El Cubanito. Since this food truck was closer in proximity, El Cubanito it was. The fellow is the sole owner and cook of this quaint food truck. Like Chris R. said, for one person, he sure has an extensive menu! I ordered a Cuban and a Pastrami. I chatted with him to pass the time. He relocated from Miami and is Cuban through and through. Very cool. Once I received my sandwiches, I was eager to bust open the aluminum foil to release the aromas and dive in. First, the Cuban was outstanding! Your standard pork, sweet ham, swiss, pickles and mustard in between Cuban bread. What I thoroughly enjoyed was the chunks of roast pork. Some Cubans I've had looked like some sort of lunch meat pork. Not here. There's no question you're biting into a moist, roast of pork. I ate half and saved the rest for later. On to the next sandwich. Pastrami, lettuce, potato sticks, in between pressed Cuban bread. Simple, fresh, hot and delicious. A lighter alternative to the heavier Cuban. The Pastrami was moist and the charred outer crust of each slice was a treat. Quality Cuban street food for your tastebud's pleasure. With such an extensive menu, I'd like to go back and try some things I've never tasted before. I'd like to especially try the Cuban Milkshakes Chris R. mentioned.

Soft plastic, several pieces in shake :(

Sandwiches are good, have had the Cuban and the breakfast omelette here, cheaper better and more food than at any big chain breakfast food-fast. The shakes are really tasty but on my last visit the shake had several bits of shredded plastic in it like this one, I ate my food by the time I noticed but they are big and tasty. Pretty sure I swallowed a few of these, it's not hard so I'm not devastated but I'm a bit iffy about coming back.

strongly don't recommend! Unreasonably timely and costly. too many food trucks at events to pay $25 for a Cuban sandwich and fries.

I had been craving fresas con crema for the longest, and I ended up getting them almost every night that weekend. My favorite was the Fresas con Crema Raffaello. I will say, though, it can get pricey, so don't expect to spend just a few bucks. The fresas con crema alone were over $18 lol. The service really depends on which truck you visit, but for the most part everyone has been friendly. The atmosphere is super chill, there's plenty of seating, and they have trash bins throughout the area. It's mostly clean, although there are a few spots that smell like straight-up trash. They also have free parking behind Denny's and paid parking right next to the food trucks. Save yourself the $6-$10 and park behind Denny's, you can put that money toward a drink instead! I seriously love this place and will always make room for it in my itinerary whenever I'm in Orlando. The fact that they're open until 2 a.m. is just another bonus!

There's free parking across the street but it's a bit of a walk and we thought it was worth paying to save us from more walking in the heat. We do like supporting local shops/owners so for that, I think it's worth it. I also liked that it was clean, they had lots of tables with umbrellas and seating. Also there were a lot of enclosed trash cans which I appreciated so it didn't smell bad and there was always one close by to throw trash away. Drinks: 4 stars $10-15 lemonade, peach lemonade, watermelon lemonade Multiple trucks were selling lemonade which was great for how hot it was. I'm glad the cups were big because they are kind of pricey. Chicho's Fusion Cuisine: 4 stars $20, #2 Fried Egg Smash Burger My friend said it was good and he'd get it again Brazilian Grill: 4 stars $24 Picanha plate I didn't plan on getting Brazilian food when we went. But when we were walking around this guy gave samples and the steak tasted great. Even after looking at a few more aisles I couldn't stop thinking about the steak so went back and ordered it. Advice for surrounding trucks to give out samples! There were quite a few similar trucks but this was the only one of this cuisine that was busy. I think it could have used a salsa or some sort of sauce on the side and I wish the salad had tomato but aside from that it was still delicious and I'd order it again. Dubai chocolate strawberries: 5 stars $13, this was the best thing we got, worth the price and super yummy. If you don't like pistachio the chocolate and strawberries would also still be fire Brappin Crabs: 1 stars... We reallllllyyyyy wanted to like this place. We literally went looking through all the food trucks for this specific food item. First off, 2 eggrolls and fries were $30! It would be one thing if they were big but they weren't and they had no business being called chicken alfredo because it tasted NOTHING like chicken alfredo. It tasted like curry with Indian or Mediterranean seasoning on it. It wasn't bad but it wasn't what you would expect. Thinking about whether or not we want to give their boil a try or if we just need to move on.

I discovered a back area where you can put your car (through the cones!) so you have time to get food. It might just be me, but I love picadera platters. For my first time, what better way to gauge how great their food is than to have A LOT of it at once. The wait was a little longer than I'd like, but it was because someone took our food, their answer to that was an apology and pinchos on the house. No better way to apologize than delicious grilled meats w/ garlic bread. The picadera was tostones, fried pork, fries, chicharron de pollo and mofongitos. That bite of the masita with mofongo and a little mayoketchu completed me. I didnt need anything else, but that did not stop me from trying to eat this whole thing. My only issue at all was the fries could've been fried longer. They got a little soggy sitting with everything else, but sauce carried them. Will be back 100 times if I can. I will try a dessert next time.
