The Mangu, Huevo Frito, Salami, and Queso Frito breakfast was absolutely incredible -- the best I've had in years. The portion was generous enough for two people, and it hit the spot. We also tried the Cuban sandwich, which was really good; I just wish it had a few more pickles. The bread, though, was perfectly toasty. My husband picked up the order and said the spot was like a bodega. We added a beef empanada, but the filling was a bit on the salty side and could've used a little more seasoning. This place has been one of my favorites for a few years. I got a combo for $11 and some change and they filled it to the max, enough for my son and I to share and be stuffed. Great spot for a quick meal with a heaping serving for a good price. It's cafeteria style here. My husband ordered this food and I was surprised how fast he had his food and paid. It's always a huge portion, it always tastes sooooo good like a home cooked meal, and the staff is always so nice and accommodating. I would say if you go at a busy time (i.e. lunch or dinner time) be prepared for some kind of line (even though it moves fast), but that just shows you what a staple Lechonera is in the Hispanic food world of Orlando/UCF area. There's definitely similar Dominican spots out there further into the city, but from my experience, no one makes it as quick, easy, delicious, and cheap as Lechonera does. The establishment is located at the corner of Colonial/SR 50 and Dean Road in a repurposed building which once housed a gasoline and convenience store. The restaurant is a Puerto Rican cafeteria/buffet hybrid where you have numerous options of rice, meat and side dishes to select. On this particular day, I opted for the Barbeque Ribs, Red Beans, Potato Salad and Rice with Pigeon Peas. Everything was delicious except, the Potato Salad was a little creamier than I prefer. I'm a big believer in cleanliness and the one quibble I have is generally the tables inside the restaurant do not seem to be wiped down on a regular basis. This may be due to the time I usually come into the establishment which is during the lunch hour...but, having an employee/manager make regular rounds through the restaurant to assess and rectify any cleanliness issues would go a long way in my book. read more

We stopped in this last Friday night and bought an enormous feast and relishd and enjoyed every gluttonous bite. The papa rellenas are fantastic, potato and meatballs that I first found on a trip to Miami and have ever since loved them. We also got something akin to a Puerto Rican lasagna AT&T. It was difference and enjoyable, though I do not know if I would get it again. For my entree, I had pernil along with rice, beans and yuca. Pernil is a pork dish that is a culinary gift from the Caribbean islands. They do true justice to this dish. Well seasoned, juicy shredded pork which blended perfectly with the sides of rice, beans and yuca. Let me touch upon once again the value of this place. Well first off, there was a hair in his food but he just took it out and the surrounding food and then tried to eat it. In my food, I had a drumstick and a thigh, ummm sorry, how is that white meat? And you charged me extra for it. The pink beans were hard and they were salty. I couldn't even give it To my baby because if hard it was. My whole meal was basically ruined bc I don't eat dark meat and the beans were not edible. I started to eat the empanada which was a nice size but ALL crust. Just the middle has some meat in it and they fake you out with that crust. How sad. I don't know what happened this day, heavy hand, not a happy cook, or what the deal was because it was only 1130, and they had just brought everything out. I called for hours to relay the experience and the phone was busy, then when it started to ring, a man picked up and hung up on me. For almost $35 for two meals, never going there again. I've had this restaurant on my must visit list for years, and it definitely did not disappoint. Since the meals are packaged in a take-out style, I only spent about five minutes inside, which is nice during the pandemic. Once you walk in, you'll see a long row of heated food display counters (imagine a food court). They have several workers rotating to help the next guest; there was a line when we came in, but we were helped almost immediately. Since it was my first time, the workers were very helpful in explaining their menu, dietary restrictions, etc. Their menu is expansive, and you'll see their popular options as you walk down the counter. First, you choose your rice, followed by meats/entrees, and lastly sides. I ordered a to-go container of mojo rice, ropa vieja, and boiled yuca.
