Great place for Burritos! We really enjoy getting food from there every month or so.

Fresh, delicious, authentic, El Salvadorian and Mexican. This place beats Bueno and Veracruzana any day of the week. I love the vegetarian burrito, fried yuca, fried plantain, tamales, pupusas, etc. etc. .So good!!! read more

I used to work at Mission Cantina and they never told me about the fierce competition that was just across the street. As soon as I walked into the modest entrance, I was greeted with warm smiles, much different than Mission's blunt and rude hospitality. The margaritas here are just as good if not better than that kinda mean place across the street. The chips and guacamole, fresh! The chips have so much more flavor, with a very sweet floral personality shining through on the corn The enchiladas were made with love, and taste very authentic. The spicy cucumber Margarita is the best I have ever had, and pura Mission Cantina to shame! Come here instead of Mission Cantina! read more

Ordered an avocado chicken burrito for pick up. The person who took my order asked me to add tips over the phone. I refused since its a pickup order and I dont feel comfortable being asked for tips this way. Then I got a burrito of rice with two pieces of chicken in it and no avocado at all. The whole menu is so authentic and approachable and diverse. Emphasis upon diverse...the only menu I've ever seen outside of NYC offering beef tongue. But as great as the plates are the whole dining vibe is it's equal. The nicest most genuine service you could ever receive. Great place for a quick cheap burrito, or a full chorizo dinner! They were my lunch basically every day in Summer '17 (yikes on my part), with their $5 or $6 rotating special burrito deals. I have since lowered my intake, and that's probably a good health decision ..... I still treat myself sometimes tho. They now have an expanded bar, and its become more of a full restaurant than a quick burrito/taco spot. The prices have risen to reflect this, and I'm less likely to stop in for a burrito as at this point I might as well get a full place. read more

So I love love love Mexican food and a solid torta, so I was pretty stoked when I found this place. The wife and I decided to check it out on our trip to Trader Joe's. You walk in and it's reminiscent of your favorite Chinese take out location. Some seating but predominantly a pick up and eat it elsewhere establishment. Considering we don't live anywhere close we opted to eat in house. Reading the reviews I knew I had to try a pupusa, everyone raved about them and I'm always down to try something new. We also ordered a steak torta, fried plantains, and two mexican sodas. The cost was pretty reasonable with 10% tip in the jar it was around $25. I have to break the food down separately because some was way better than others. Torta: I would give this 3 stars. Couple of complaints the steak was a little dry/overdone, it was also in large medallions which was annoying because it made for some steak-less bites (not cool) and the bread was pretty hard (it actually cut the roof or our mouths). All of the key ingredients were there I've just had it done much much better. One other good thing is the sandwich was pretty large probably ~10" so it will definitely fill you up. Pupusas: Five stars all the way... flipping delicious! I honestly had no idea what to expect even after reading the reviews, but I was surprised in a very good way. Basically they place the beans and cheese (or whatever the ingredients may be) between two fresh made corn tortillas. Then they place it on their hot plate and grill it until its an amazing gooey blend of cheese/bean/corn tortilla. Caution these are flippin hot (I burned the roof of my mouth in my exuberance). So you have to order a minimum of 3, I got 2 beans and cheese and 1 jalapeno and chees. I would definitely get just beans and cheese next time. My only complaint here is the lack of filling for the pupusas. Its awesome with just beans and cheese, but adding some carmelized onion, steak, or chorizo would make this amazing. Fried plantains: Five star, not much to say here as long as you don't over or underfry them its hard to mess up. Bottom Line: I would definitely go there again. Great food , pretty cheap prices (we couldn't eat all of the food probably enough for 3 people). I would skip the torta and try their nachos or the chorizo burrito, alot of great choices. whats not to like. read more

Sure, you have to get away from the downtown Amherst area, but if you go to this hidden place behind the Hess gas station on 116 and Pomeroy you won't be dissapointed. The food is beyond great and the prices are fantastic! Who said that great food has to be pricey?! We love Salvadorean food, we loved it in the San Francisco Bay Area and in San Salvador! We have been looking for a good place to eat good Salvadorean cuisine in the area (no luck until now). El Comalito offers that plus some dishes that are a staple in the Tex-mex American food repertoire (i.e. Burritos, Fajitas and such). But let's go back to the traditional Salvadorean Pupusa (a not so distant cousin of the Venezuelan Arepa and the Mexican Gordita). Pupusas here are made right after you order them, the corn masa (Gluten Free!!!) is hand shaped and filled with an array of ingredients: cheese, Refried beans and cheese, cheese and spinach, cheese and Jalapeño and other options for the carnivores. (Note: make sure to try Pupusas with LOROCO, an edible vine grown in El Salvador and Guatemala, they have it occasionally and you should definitely try it!). We went there for the first time on Friday night and the following day with a couple of friends that were equally impressed with their freshness and variety of of options on the menu. El Comalito is not a sit-down restaurant (although they have a few seats on a high counter), this is a take out/ delivery kitchen. So your best bet is to order over the phone and pick up, show up and order and wait (worth every minute of waiting for the tasty meal that you'll get!) or simply call and get your food delivered (no idea if there is an extra charge for that service, call them and ask!) I can't give this place 5 stars, because I've only ever come when Mission Cantina (my favorite, definitely 5 stars) is closed or the wait there is too long. That being said, the service is fantastic. The food is delicious and authentic (either Mexican or El Salvadorian). The margaritas are pretty good too. I have nothing bad to say about them. Only that they aren't quite as good as Mission Cantina. read more

It has been a while since we have come to this restaurant, but after having lunch here we think that this place has improved on their already incredible food. They have added some new items to their menu such as tacos de lengua which we loved. The tortillas are perfect and the Papusas were incredible as well. This restaurant now has a remodeled dining area which allows you to comfortably sit and enjoy your meal. This was something lacking in the past, but we definitely enjoyed eating lunch here. The staff is still polite and you can tell that it is a family run restaurant. We thoroughly love this restaurant and wish that we were closer so that we could eat here more often. **Good food, takeout is fast and reliable, dine-in service has been slow (maybe improving), pleasant atmosphere.** We live in walking distance, and this is our go-to lunch place. My favorite item is the Veggie burrito (or burrito bowl, no tortilla), which on a good day (which is most days) contains a savory combination of perfectly roasted, very fresh tasting vegetables. Heavenly! About 1/4 of the time they have someone cooking that isn't as talented, and the veggies are undercooked or steamed, and then it's merely okay, but usually it's fantastic. If you get a burrito bowl to go, the takeout container is a bit small and it's a lighter meal than when you order in. When I get this to go, I just ask them to hold the lettuce (so it's not taking up precious container space), and then it's a filling meal. The wait service was initially subpar. They are a family run business and they do their best (and I love them all, sweet people), but none of them are trained or experienced waitstaff, and frankly, I'm not sure if they really get what the dining experience is about. Since we generally prefer takeout anyway, I can't tell you if it's improved, but initially,​ it was a painfully slow and neglected dining experience. The error they made was to be understaffed and to prioritize the takeout line. This would leave table diners waiting and waiting, on every end of their order. They've had a turnover in waitstaff, and also appear a bit better staffed, so maybe it's gotten better; I hope so! If you're in a hurry, I recommend the takeout just in case, which has always been speedy, or even just ordering and paying in the line and asking them to bring it to the table. read more

This is my favorite Mexican joint. It used to be mission cantina across the street but long waiting times got me to try this hidden food heaven. Their portions are huge without compromising on the taste. Some of the must try's are the milanesa chicken tortas, pupusa, dorado and enchiladas. We stopped into El Comalito on a Saturday evening. The Shrimp Tacos were very good and my husband loved the Pulled Pork Tacos. The Guacamole serving was pretty small for the price but the chips were fresh and tasty. I really wanted to order a pupusa but they have a minimum order of 3 and they take atleast 20 minutes to make so we just couldn't justify it on this quick stop before a long ride home. The atmosphere is cozy with colorful decor and the service was efficient, I would definitely stop here again the next time I'm in the area. read more

Not the best food or service. I ordered the chicken quesadillas and they were nothing special, if anything, they had too much chicken in them. The side of refried beans was very soupy! I wish they had a thicker consistency. Although my entree wasn't the best, the nachos as an appetizer were great- everyone at my table really enjoyed them! The facility is clean and the atmosphere is comfortable. We didn't receive the best service. Our server didn't collect the menus after we ordered our meals, she got our drink orders wrong, and she didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert - she just plopped the checks onto our table after we finished our entrees. There are other great Mexican restaurants in the area. I do not recommend coming to El Comalito. read more

El Comalito is easily my favorite Salvadorian/Mexican food joint. My husband and I found this place a few years back on chance when it was a tiny place. We loved it when it was small and are so glad that they were able to expand into a really up and coming place! The pupusas are the best I've ever had and you can't go wrong with any of their burritos. My standard is the Nandos with guac. Food was well flavored but the nachos came with an extremely small amount of chips, so the topping to chip ratio was super off. Also ordered papusas with beans and cheese, but the papusas I recieved were just cheese. Probably one of the best restaurants in the area in general: the tacos are excellent (Al pastor and birria are personal favorites), as well as the enchiladas. Went here on a Saturday night with a party of six and didn't have to wait too long for a table. Should've ordered appetizers to start because the wait for entrees felt a little long. But the food was worth the wait. I got chicken enchiladas with green sauce. Rice and retried beans for sides. Good variety of jarritos flavors -- I got fruit punch. I wish I could give them 5 stars the food is good but literally every time I come in to order a burrito they get my order wrong. I'm not exaggerating, I've been in like 10+ times. I've even reordered on multiple occasions when it was wrong and half the time they got it wrong the 2nd time too. I really don't understand how this happens, I don't order anything crazy. Today I ordered a chicken avocado burrito and an avocado burrito, both had chicken. Past examples: I order an avocado burrito, no avocado, I've asked for no lettuce, there's lettuce, I say no meat, there's meat, etc. I figure it can't possibly happen again but it literally happens every single time. I enjoy El Comalito quite a bit and have been several times. I typically get the chicken tacos which are simple, and very tasty. This past weekend I ordered a steak/mushroom/bacon burrito and it was very good. The size was such that I tapped out 1/2 way through and had the remainder for lunch the next day. I enjoyed my experience at El Comalito, however, I cannot call it my favorite Mexican restaurant. I really loved looking the authentic decorations along the walls and the ceilings, being that it gave the restaurant a very genuine Mexican restaurant feel. The small size of the restaurant gave it a very intimate FEEL, however, it did not seem too functional for larger groups. We were seated in a corner of the restaurant, where I was not too comfortable because the corner felt compact and restrictive. I ordered a pomegranate margarita, which tasted great and were pretty strong, however, I could tell the flavor was just mixed in was a sweet, red flavored syrup. Our appetizers, the fried plantains and the loaded chicken nachos were the best part of my meal. I ordered catfish tacos. My tacos came with extremely soupy pinto beans and rice. I did not enjoy my catfish tacos because it tasted bland and the fish did not sit well with me. I would not recommend this entrée to anyone I cared about. I particularly did not like that there was not many customers in the restaurant, however, it took us a very long time to be attended to by a server. Taking our orders, getting our food, and receiving the checks took a very long time. Despite the service and my distaste for my main entrée, I will be going back with friends for drinks and appetizers. read more

We have eaten at the easthampton location several times. Food is inconsistent. My gf received a steak fajita with 3 tiny pieces of steak in each quarter. The rest was cheese. Fajita was nearly flat, boring. I have had a burrito without wrap three times. One take home and 2 in house. The take home was a small bowl, tiny, weighed nothing 13.00$ left me hungry. The first order I had in house was on a plate and was excellent, the recent one was served in a small bowl with lettuce on top. Hard to eat not enough protein despite it is supposed have three different meats. The alcohol, even top shelf, has no flavor. You have to wonder if it's watered down. My husband refuses to go back.
