The parmesean fries were crispy, good amount of salt and the parmesean added the much needed flavor to the fries. The steak fries were made with steak tips and it was a generous amount. I wasn't a fan of the tacos because the steak was salty and cooked more than I liked. The soda water was flat, like no carbonation. Please fix that when you guys have some time. The restaurant itself was spacious and the owner told us about how it can be rented out for events. I would consider renting out this space for an event, but don't think I'd come back for the food because it wasn't hitting the spot. The owner did intrigue me with talking about the chorizo sandwhich. I can't really recommend the food, but I guess you can try it and let me know! -ODL Connect with me! IG & YouTube: @AOEAT

It was nice looking, but not overly bright to school in the dark side. The young lady that waited on us she was very nice. She had her daughter which I totally understand the no daycare issue for people that's not even an issue for me. I'm just making a statement. We were there doing the sandwich passport and she offered us a couple of different things. A chorizo sandwich which since we had so many to do today and that was our first stop I was afraid I'd get a stomachache eating something too spicy so I did not get that. And said we got a chicken sandwich she offered it. I don't remember the name of it but when it came, it looked attractive, but it was very thinly sliced and it also was very tough to eat once we've been into it. We had put mayonnaise on. It still didn't help. It was very tough to eat. It was stringy. I have braces. It was very uncomfortable. I couldn't really chew it or anything however, we did order it didn't come we ordered french fries I asked you have homemade maybe the homemade or we have the frozen. I said she's always checking so she checked and they had the homemade ones we had those those were amazing like we ate all the french fries we just could not eat the sandwich. It was very disappointing. It was supposed to be $13 but I'm glad we had it free from the passport because I wouldn't have paid 13 for it unfortunately it was one of the worst ones I've ever had. And even though she gave us a special menu of specials that are $10 or less Monday through Friday like sandwiches and fries or a drink or whatever we probably won't be back and I feel bad because she is a nice person. She's very friendly but unfortunately, the sandwich was really a put off for sure. They said they've been open for a year and a half and I'm not really sure how because like I said we were just disappointed. I mean, they might have been good for other passports to save it on something else, but they weren't for this one here.

It was a quiet afternoon, so instead of feeling awkward, it turned into a really enjoyable visit. The staff had the match on, and before long we were all watching together. A couple of goals were scored while we were there, and everyone celebrated for a moment before getting back to work. It gave the restaurant a fun, relaxed atmosphere that you don't usually get. I ordered the Burrito Fajita, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. It was generously portioned, served hot, and had plenty of grilled chicken, peppers, and onions. The rice and beans on the side rounded everything out nicely. Nothing about the meal disappointed me. If I'm being fair, restaurants like El Tapatio have a lot of competition. There are plenty of Mexican restaurants around Rhode Island serving very similar menus, and the differences often come down to execution more than originality. That's not a knock on this place. It's simply the reality of the genre. The food here was solid, well prepared, and satisfying, even if there wasn't one particular dish that made me think, "I've never had anything like this before." Where El Tapatio really stood out was the service. Everyone was genuinely friendly without hovering over the table, our food came out quickly, and they made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The restaurant was also spotless, which is something I always notice. Would I come back? Absolutely. Maybe it won't reinvent Mexican food, but it doesn't need to. Sometimes all you want is a clean restaurant, good service, a generous meal, and people who make you feel at home. On that front, El Tapatio delivered.

The overall experience left a mixed impression - great location, interesting menu, somewhat slow service, issues with the food & timing confusion with the daily specials. Before heading to the restaurant, I checked out the website & the daily special pop-up board said "Join us every day from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM for our $2.00 Street Taco Special." Great! Let's do a couple of tacos along with some drinks. Unfortunately, the waiter said it was only 3-5pm &, even though it was 5:05pm, they wouldn't do it. Okay... so we moved on. Hubby ordered a Modelo Especial & I went with passionfruit house margarita. It was a little too sweet for me so I asked for a little soda water to dilute the passionfruit syrup. We are both huge fans of pozole & you don't see it on a lot of menus. It is a traditional Mexican soup made with hominy, pork & broth - either red or green. We should have asked because we prefer green but it was the red variation. It came with a platter of toppings so you could customize each bite. The broth was nice & spicy. Unfortunately, the pork was more grizzle than meat. Hubby selected the Wet Burrito: a large flour tortilla stuffed with grilled shrimp & chicken, rice & queso dip, then doused in more queso dip with pico de gallo, guacamole & sour cream as sides. It was ginormous but consisted of very little shrimp & chicken. I wasn't super hungry so I ordered the appetizer pork belly chicharron. Good-sized pieces of nicely charred cubes of spicy pork. It came with pico de gallo, guacamole, beans & warm tortillas. It was delicious! As the restaurant is still relatively new, they still need to iron out some of the operational kinks & hopefully will settle into its groove. We will be back (from 3-5pm) to check out the tacos!

But I'm someone that believes anyone can have an off day so overall this place is really great. First and foremost, get the margarita. They are the best I've ever had. Also, get the tacos. Even as an app they're so great. I got the shrimp and a veg recently. I've enjoyed all of the entrees I've ever gotten. Honorable mention is the shrimp Diablo. Super spicy and delightful. The interior is warm, cozy, and a perfect combo of lit enough so you can see but dark enough to set a mood for spilling tea or flirting with your date. Equal parts good for girls night and good for date night. The not so great: I got flautas once and they fell flauta (haha). Also, it's sometimes a one man show so service can be slow especially if you need refills so be sure to order multiple drinks at a time, or better yet a pitcher. Street parking can be a real pain but sometimes you get lucky on a side street. Definitely worth a visit if you've never been!

So we took a chance. And we were not at all disappointed! First, we were greeted warmly, in a genuine way, by the owner. They seemed genuinely glad to have us. The older gentleman was friendly and playful towards my son. The food was delicious! I had enchiladas with housemate mole. The mole was fantastic: complex and nuanced. My daughter had enchiladas verde, which was smothered in a poblano salsa that was also complex, with great green heat. My son ordered the arracherra, a peppercorn rubbed steak served with homemade guacamole and a delicious cactus salad. I was tempted by several other dishes, particularly the enchiladas mineras (beef cheeks - yum!). All in all, a warm, welcoming, delicious experience that made me want come back. And I will.

Inside is small with few seats and a counter where you place orders. It was not busy when we went so we placed an order and sat down. We got a homemade pineapple juice and few tacos including chorizo, steal, al pastor, and fish. Fish was not able to be ordered as single for some reason. Pineapple juice was tasty and natural so it wasn't too sweet. It was foamy maybe from blending with blender? The tacos were pretty good. Everything was seasoned well and came with some spicy sauce and lime. Personally I liked the chorizo and fish tacos the most. Steak/al pastor was a tad bit dry but wasn't bad. Service was good. Took a but for food to come out but I can tell they make a lot of things in the restaurant and prepares it after its been ordered. Overall, the place was good. It's a solid Mexican restaurant around the area. I can't say it's the best I've had though as there are a-lot of good competitors in RI. I would get chorizo tacos and their juice again if I come back.
