We went here for a late night dinner. It was after the rush and grateful they were open. We were greeted right away warmly. We were instantly brought salsa and chips. I ordered a watermelon margarita which was great. We ordered our meals and they came out fast. The food was great and hit the spot. The shining star was our dessert tres leche. It was so yummy. We've dined in and ordered take out from here probably a dozen times and always felt it was good. The host/ess and waiters/waitresses have always been polite and prompt. However, this last time when we dined in, there was a half alive bug found twitching in our food right after the waiter brought the plates to the table. El tapitio is my go too for Mexican when I don't want to travel far. They have the best queso!! I always get the burrito tapitio and it's stuffed with chicken and very good, I never finish it and take it home. Margaritas are large, I only need one! The atmosphere has a fun festive vibe they do have outdoor seating in the warmer months. I really don't like giving bad reviews...the orginal Tapatio is just as bad as the other two now. I can make better enchiladas with an old El Paso kit. It use to be good but it was so greasy I almost got sick. It was just globs of cheese. It was comparable to eating a a fried grilled cheese wrapped in a tortilla. The server wasn't friendly and over talked me. He got the orders wrong. There's officially no good tex mex in RI. read more

Had dinner with my friends. My friend ordered fish taco, which doesn't look great. There are 3 tacos on the plate, two looks ok, but one has almost no fish. Found this restaurant near where we were shopping and it was on the way back to our lodging. We were looking for takeout. I had the Camarones Mojo De Ajo. It had a fantastic flavor. 7 large shrimp, mushrooms, and lots of rice beans and ensalada. Adding picture of left over as I couldn't eat it all. The margarita was a wonderful addition. My husband had super nachos with hamburger. He said it was the best he ever had eaten. The food arrived quickly and well packaged. We will get several meals out of this one. It was worth the wait! After nearly a year of anticipation, the Cranston El Tapatio finally soft opened this week. Like many others, we've been watching the progress as they renovated the inside and cleaned up the outside. Unfortunately, they don't have an outdoor space but their take-out process seems good. There's a door to enter and a separate door to exit. We ordered takeout of a vegetarian burrito and a chicken chimichanga. My wife said that the burrito was excellent with sauteed mushrooms and seasoned black beans. There were a lot of onions but I think they're necessary for flavor and easy enough to pull out if there's too many for your liking. My chimichanga wasn't as huge as I typically see, so at first I was disappointed but once I cut into it, I absolutely could not have been happier. It was basically stuffed with only a seasoned/stewed chicken breast. That's it. The outer "shell" had been so perfectly and lightly fried that it seemed (almost) healthy. The chicken was incredibly good. The rice, beans, guac, sour cream, and Mexican Cole slaw that came in the side of my deluxe meal were all great. We were also provided with complementary chips and salsa. The chips were still warm and fresh. We had to really control ourselves to keep from eating all of them right away. The salsa wasn't our favorite because it was very mild. I think typical New Englanders will like it. Next time we order I'm going to see if they have a spicy version. read more

We had a really good time at El Tapatio. The staff is awesome, friendly and efficient. We had chips and salsa within ten minutes of sitting down. I had maybe the best MOJITO I've ever had -- really good. They have lots of tequilas and a comfortable bar. We ate dinner at the bar, it's a little unusual, the bartender is in an area that's below the bar...kind of strange but okay. Our dinners were delicious -- I had chicken fajitas which were perfectly done and my partner had chicken enchiladas -- which he really enjoyed -- nicely spiced and well done. Besides it being illegal and wrong the host said under no circumstances was a service dog allowed in and REFUSED entry. Then the drinks finally come our and she forgets which one of her 3 tables the sodas were going to, that's simple which one of the 3 tables does not have drinks?
