This restaurant is GREAT. The service is amazing, the food comes out very quick, and everyone is extremely sweet and accommodating. The menu is amazingly extensive, so tons of different Mexican foods are served. I had went with my family after charging our electric vehicle, and we had gone for the birria on their menu. I have tried so many different birria tacos from all over the country and this stands as the best one. My siblings shared the ground beef tacos, and they also enjoyed it as much as I did. I have gone to so many different restaurants and only reviewed a couple, but this one is just amazing. We had been on a road trip to another state, and 2 hours in we remembered we had left a bag at Caliente grill. We drove back and called multiple times, but they were busy at the moment. After calling one last time, they awnsered sweetly and we explained how we forgot our bag. They told us they kept it for if we came back and were super nice about it! Picking up the bag, we also ordered 6 more birria tacos- 3 orders! Anyways, this restaurant is amazing, even though some reviews were very negative, I gave it a chance, and look where I am. Their food is authentic and delicious, their prices are low, and all of their staff is so patient and welcoming. I've never gotten something here that I didn't like. Best burritos in South Kingstown. I love the King Ranch; I will go there, buy 6-10 at a time, and bring them home, since I now live out of state. It's right in the emporium at URI, and the people working there are pretty young and very friendly. Burritos are usually $5-6 and they're pretty packed. I can't finish a whole one. There are maybe 15 different types of burritos to get, and they also have standard Mexican cuisine: quesadilla, rice and beans, etc. They're also really accomodating as to what they put in the burritos. It gets busy around lunch when school is in session, but there's not too much of a wait. read more

Caliente is delicious. Their salads are my absolute favorite, especially the Newport Tostada Salad. It comes with a mini-cheese quesadilla which is always a nice touch. The dressing for this salad is liquid heaven, seriously. It's some type of cilantro lime dressing. The salad portions are huge, and it's super hard to stop eating because everything tastes so good. I also love their salsa, it's incredibly fresh. Their buffalo chicken quesadilla is also something to order if you're not trying to be healthy. Their refried beans are some of my favorite around, they are a little chunky in texture which I love. The staff there are always nice and they do their best to get people their orders in a timely manner. It is a busy location so lunch rush can be tough. read more

I got the salad and was very impressed with the price. It was so well put together with all fresh and tasty ingredients. Being a former restaurant owner at the URI Emporium, I love checking out what new is going on and tried out Caliente Mexican Grill. I LLLOOOVVVEEE Mexican food, with that being said, this isn't Mexican, but an Americanized Facsimile of Mexican food... and I accept that, and expected it walking in the door.. as it is a college campus.. and the young huddled masses want what they want.. so.. I ordered the Kingston Fire (named after the student Fire Department on campus) and it was a whole wheat burrito (my choice) filled with steak, and ground beef, and rice and beans and a corn relish, cheese, bbq sauce, ranch and some smoking hot hot sauce... (what?! bbq and ranch not authentic mexican flavors) and it was good. The steak was tender, the rice could have used some help, but it was hot and tasty and filling, and got a side of chips and some decent salsa to go with it. I was happy. And I give them props, the open kitchen was spotless.. and being a restaurant guy thats big for me.. they were working clean, and fast, and efficiently. Went in at lunch time and ordered and had my food in about 5 minutes. And they were friendly, go figure. So if you get a craving for some pseudo mexi food for the cheap, in a hurry... I have been eating here for a few years now. My go to burrito is the hot head. The size of the burrito has decreased over the last few years. The staff is always friendly, and they make your order quickly. They now have cilantro lime rice, which I find amazing. It just seems to me that the business was a great success at the beginning, but has been slowly neglected over the years. It is still a great place to eat and I will continue to do so, but it just doesn't have the same feel to it anymore. read more
