The food was very good I will come back with a very good place because the seasonings were very good and the steak tacos was very good and the server was very polite if I were you you should come here. read more

We ordered takeout from the California Taco in Johnston, it was really good! The best thing that we all loved was the birria nachos...they were soooo tasty!!! I had the enchilada combo, rice is yellow rice, beans didn't have much flavor but the enchiladas were good. The food came out in less than 15 minutes from ordering it. read more

California Taco - Mexican Near Me - Johnston, Rhode Island

Had a taco craving and my favorite taco shop was closed, so I decided to stop in at the Hartford Ave Cali taco location. I ordered the two taco combo and opted for asada and carnitas. The meal also came with a small salad, beans, and Mexican rice. This location has plenty of off street parking, there are a few spots in front of the entrance, and then plenty more in a lot on the side, near The Avenue Bar. Service is friendly and it only took a few minutes for me to receive my order. I found the facos to be just ok - the double tortilla was good, and they were nicely filled, but the meat wasn't particularly flavorful and didn't really taste great. They did provide limes, which I love and the beans and rice were good. This is an ok choice if you don't have time to go into Olneyville, Dyer Ave, Central Falls, Pawtucket, or other areas with great tacos. read more

I have been to the California Taco in Johnston many times - and it is a favorite! Additionally, I coordinated with the Johnston staff to have their food truck at my wedding - and it was a HUGE hit! The staff were friendly and super efficient! Everything offered on the catering menu was fresh and all of the guests raved about the big portions and excellent service. They were the perfect addition to my wedding! :) read more

California Taco. What can I say. This place speaks for itself. Food is awesome service is great. Portion of food is aboundant and delicious. Price is a little high but that goes for everything today. Small seating area. Hot in summer time. But this place is all about pick up or Uber eats. No delivery. You like Mexican food this place rules. A happy restaurant reviewer Larry read more

Friendly service, love their tacos and horchata. Very festive on Cinqo de Mayo. Small tables and chairs outside.

First time trying birria tacos it was awful I arrived 15-20 mins before closing time I understand everyone is ready to go after a certain time however that doesn't mean you half ass my order they didn't add any cheese to the birria tacos they were dry af I will never order from this place again don't recommend your better off going elsewhere read more

The food here is amazing!! The kids and I have been back multiple times when we are in the area. We did sit inside the first time we went there, but the seating area is pretty small. We found that most people ordered food for pick up, so we have done that a couple times as well. The people are nice. The parking is really hard to get into, but we found there is also a larger lot behind the building. Highly recommend their tacos! read more

Colorful, friendly and delicious. The inside is colorful, the staff working is very friendly and the food is; you guessed it. DELICIOUS! Total cost for lunch including drinks came to $31. Huge, huge, huge portions. The red ketchup looking container is the hot sauce. We were warned and she was right! read more

This place is simply awesome! The flavors, the portions, the freshness...everything was just YUM! My whole family was so happy with our meal that it is definitely going to be a staple for us. I love California Taco. I had never been to this location in Johnston but it was very nice. The people are always friendly and it is a nice clean place to go to. They have a limited menu which is fine with me. Their tacos are inexpensive and yet fresh and delicious. They have hard tacos and soft tacos and salads and chicken wings, so a varied menu. I have never had a bad meal at a California Taco and I was happy to see that there was one in Johnston. We were looking for a small restaurant to give our business to at lunch time and we're lucky enough to find one that we already knew we liked. read more

California Taco - Keeping it safe - Mexican Near Me - Johnston, Rhode Island

I like California Taco . It is a chain, but they are small and pop up in the best small places. The food is fresh and good and way better than "Tex Mex" fast food like Chipolte, Moe's, etc. Set up like every other California Taco (chain) , this location is neat and clean. What I don't like is the parking - very tight and limited (try backing out!!!) in the front or have to park in the back. However, the food is just as good. It is not "fast food" like the others- it takes some time but it's worth the wait. Love the street tacos (small corn) with cilantro and onions ( I prefer the carne asada) , and the rice and beans. Haven't been able to get past those yet! Love them. read more

Some of the best tacos around! All of the food here is really good. Clean and friendly take out restaurant with a few tables. We have tried most if not all of the menu and cannot say anything bad. read more

From the reviews, I wanted to really enjoy this place. I struggled to order take out over the phone because the woman who took my order couldn't understand me. When I finally was able to order, I picked up the food with a seamless transaction. She was very friendly in person so it made up for the confusion earlier on the phone. I ordered the chorizo burrito. I was disappointed because it tasted more like ground beef than anything. There was barely any salsa, sour cream or beans. I appreciate the plentiful amounts of meat and rice, I just wish there was more of a balance with the other ingredients. I ordered a side of chips and they didn't taste homemade. The churros, however, were delicious. They were cinnamon churros, sprinkled with powdered sugar and a chocolate dip sauce on the side. My mom ordered chicken tacos and she loved them. If I return, I'll try the chicken next time. read more

This is definitely one of my favorite spots for tacos for multiple reasons! I'll start with the one thing that really is disappointing is the parking situation, its like they don't want you to go there. But besides location, I love this place. My favorite thing to get is the hard tacos, which is crazy because I have never liked hard tacos but theirs is so wonderful and definitely fried in house. What makes it even better? On Wednesdays, my boyfriend and I like to go for the fiesta pack -- which is 7 hard tacos for $5.99 and one more dish to share. there's normally still food left and we eat for less than $20. The only bad experience I have had in terms of food was the chicken. I ordered a chicken burrito as our second dish and the chicken was just plain bland making the whole burrito disappointing. Cant wait for my hard tacos again! read more

I get take out here at least 2 times a week. Awesome food great prices. They have the best tacos!! But my favorite is the home made hot sauce. The owner makes them from scratch. The red is good but the green is my fave. I love the carnitas. Def a must for a quick bite. read more

Was looking for local delivery and wasn't feeling up for pizza. Luckily California Taco is nearby and willing to deliver! 2 adults and 2 kids were hungry so we ordered a few different things. My sister got a burrito combo and said it was delicious. I ordered the quesadilla combo for the kids. They shared the quesadilla and both ate the whole thing, which is big cause they were scared of the peppers in it at first. Normally they find sauces "too spicy" but they were eating the chips & salsa and asked for more! One of them ate the hard taco too. I ordered the enchilada combo because I was craving some enchiladas. California Taco satisfied my craving! I only ate about half of my meal and was SO FULL. Everything was delicious. I ended up eating the leftovers a few days later and it was just as good. Delivery service was also quick and easy, would definitely order from here again! read more

Whenever I go to this part of Rhode Island I HAVE to stop at this spot and get food. Having moved to New England from California I NEED tacos and Jarrito's. They've got really good Al Pastor, they're very quick with service and if you have any questions they'll always answer you. The food is very affordable for what you receive, the salsa they have on the table is very good, not too spicy. If you go, don't skip dessert, get some churros and ice cream! read more

This Mexican food chain is pretty darn good. When I'm in the mood for some taco goodness this has been my spot especially since they have locations pretty much across RI. My favorite is the small soft tacos that's pretty much all I ever get. The marinated pork, chicken and steak are my usuals. The prices are very affordable as well! The chili's that you can get with it are awesome! I They are both very different however the green one is my favorite but I enjoy mixing the both of them together! Not bad for a local taco chain. read more

The food is absolutely awesome, I haven't had a bad meal here at any of the locations. I recommend the pizza quesadilla with everything.

Convenient location, consistent food, and gratuitous service. This was my first time coming for $1 tacos on "Taco Tuesday". Great deal! While I was waiting for my tacos I decided to try a Horchata from one of the pre-mixed machines.. what a great idea! It came poured over ice and was smooth, with a creamy vanilla-cinnamon taste. I got carnita, chorizo, al pastor, and homemade chicken tacos. I got a steak quesadilla too. The carnitas is my favorite! I'll be back again! read more

Five words. Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! You know why I didn't post any pictures? Because I ate everything before I could snap one. I grew up in Arizona, raised on Mexican food, and have been looking for a local source for the glorious, cheese-covered, sour cream laden Tex Mex I knew and loved. Well, folks, this is it. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito for $4 and it was bigger than my head. And the churros...oh the churros. They were just like the ones at Disneyland. I think this might be my new Friday. read more

This place is a hidden gem with locations all around Rhode Island. We ordered their quesadilla combo and 4 hard tacos. The quesadilla was very large and came with refined beans, rice sour cream and lettuce. The fish taco was crispy and flavorful. Unfortunately the homemade chicken taco was pretty dry. I've heard great things about the other locations as well! read more

**Carne asada food poison**Went to The johnston location for the first time after being a loyal customer of the Plainfield ave one in cranston. My wife and I sat in to dine around 4pm. First off. We waited at the table for almost 10 minutes before they asked us what we wanted to drink. Then I had walked up to the counter to ask if we were getting the usual complimentary house chips and salsa. The little tubby guy behind the counter was extremely rude and gave me a short and loud "NO" while not even looking at me. I stood there and stared at him waiting for a reason why and until I asked him he said "we don't do that here, at this location we charge so I can add it to your bill if you like" That should have been our que to leave but we were starving and both ordered the Carne Asada steak for $13 The wait time for that was about 10 minutes. Pretty fast for a steak.... Whatever you do don't get the carne asada steak. The meat was grade D cuts with tonsssss of fat! My wife only ate half of her steak and it made her sick for a week!!! Instant bubble guts for her the whole following week and a Fever everyday for 7 days and counting. I'm never going there or recommending that location to anyone. Beware the steak carne asada was undercooked. I wonder how long they had that nasty piece of meat sittingin the kitchen before they got rid of it by serving us. I'm pissed and the little tubby guy with curls needs to be aware of his customer service since he had ZERO. read more

Come through here on Taco Tuesday, where I had one of each of the soft tacos. Ground beef, chicken, sausage, carnitas, etc. They're small, but a good deal for a dollar...tasty and fresh. They come with their house sauce and limes. Pretty basic, but a good deal! read more

I had a terrible experience here. They mixed my ground beef into my chicken taco. The issue is I don't eat red meat. When I tried to speak with the server she was abrasive and unreceptive to the fact that the meal looked like she put everything in a box shook it up and gave it to me. I would not recommend it, based on terrible customer service. read more

Great great nachos! I'd say some of the best I've had in a while. Chicken was extremely flavorful, the chips we thick and crunchy. Just overall a fun little atmosphere.
