Came here very last minute to meet up with my mom. We were in such a deep conversation i forgot to take pictures of the food. I still wanted to leave a review, because the service was excellent. I must say it's a good deal . The drinks are small so plan to buy a few to get a buzz lol i love me some margaritas. My mom ordered arroz con pollo ( chicken with rice) that was a decent size she couldn't finish it. Boxed it up to go. I had two chicken tacos they are like tapas size. They were good. The chicken empanadas i did not like. I didn't realize it was corn breading. I don't like that. It was small but a decent size for the price. Chips and guacamole was delicious. He refilled the chips. Carlos was our waiter and he was phenomenal. Will definitely come again. I only reason i didn't give 5 stars is because the bathroom is behind the bar almost and you have to go down a steep staircase. I think it's a bit dangerous especially when you're consuming alcohol. read more

Great music, great crowd, can get packed quickly so PLEASE reserve!!! the margaritas are kind of a scam for $5 for a small size but the reg size for $10 isn't too bad. their empanadas are really good as well! I enjoy going to their happy hour. read more

seeing this place has 3 stars kinda surprised me, I really enjoyed my meal and the prices match the portion sizes but I appreciate that about a venue because I don't always want to pay so much & carry around leftovers. there was an octopus taco (mar y) that was SO good, like easily one of the top 3 tacos I've ever had. I also tried the steak tacos and the spicy margs. The guac was also good but not big enough for sharing. now here's for the downside of this place. I docked 1 star (and contemplated even giving it 3 stars because of this) but they automatically charged 20% gratuity for us, assuming it was because we were a party of 6, but NYC law/rule is once your party is 8 people, you get automatically 18% applied...... so this did leave a sour taste in my mouth. I usually tip 20% anyway, but I don't want to assume that is OK with everyone. plus our drinks throughout the night were inconsistent, some were watered down. the place is SO packed, you will be sitting next to someone who's table is a centimeter away which doesn't bother me but might bother other people. and the music is very loud. would not recommend this spot for a first date. read more

I am giving this place a one star for the unprofessionalism the supervisor demonstrated. We were a party of 6, celebrating a birthday. We ordered lots of food and drinks. Empanadas were great, drinks were tasty and only $5. The server Jonathan was AMAZING! He had such a great, fun personality. He made our table have a great time. At the end of our night, another sever came by and had 6 tequila Casamigo shots on a tray, we told him politely we did not order that, and our server told him this was not for our table. At the end, unfortunately, they got confused and added it to our bill. Which was $92 for shots. Again, for something We did not drink. We did not notice this over charge until we left the restaurant, so we went back. We told our server jonathan about the overcharge and he quickly apologized and said he would get his supervisor on it. This is when the good experience turned TERRIBLE. I was horrified at how a supervisor could treat her customers this way. The supervisor came over with a horrible attitude, and said "whatever is on the bill, is what you all ordered". I explained the server got confused and brought us shots that were not ours and we did not take them. She continued to argue with us!!! She said she saw him bring it to our table, our server jonathan was explaining to her it was by accident. She kept arguing with jonathan saying No, that did not happen, they have to pay for it! She then stormed away , shaking her ahead with such attitude. I was literally in shock. She came back after checking her cameras and removed the charge! SHE DID NOT EVEN APOLOGIZE. I told her demeanor and treatment to her customers was horrifying and unacceptable. She said she was simply going off of what she believed and her cameras showed him coming to our table. But later realized what we told was in fact true. Not only was I late to another event following dinner, I had to argue to get a refund for my money! And put up with a disgusting experience. I would never go back and would not recommend a place that treats people like this. With not even an apology. read more

I would give this 0 zero stars if I could. Service is trash and food is mid. The portions are tiny so dont be fooled by the cheap prices. The guac appetizer is barely enough for 1 person and the tacos/empanadas are 1 bite. Worst service I've ever had. Had to flag down my waiter for water and to take our empty plates and request refills. 1 person in my party never got their food 30+ min after every one else did. So I refused to pay the included 20% gratuity and they called the cops on me. What a joke. The management is way over their heads, this place will not last long. read more

The food and drinks were okay; however, the service was awful. We were being constantly ignored when trying to ask for something or our checks to pay, which was another issue. Initially we were told we could only split the bill in two which we were okay with as we were a party of 5, but later on we had the manager come over and tell us we could not split the bill at all because it would be too difficult to split in two. We were just a bit confused with the whole situation and felt ignored while trying to order or ask for supplements during our time there. One of the people in our party had an issue with their food as it seemed dry and stale to which the staff replied "the empanadas are frozen there's nothing we can do about it." Our server was nice but also seemed to be all over the place as can happen when you're waiting different tables, nonetheless, there needs to be better communication between the servers and managers so incidents like ours do not occur again and cause customers to be leaving unsatisfied and disappointed with the service given. read more

Deals deals deals! The vibes at this spot were fantastic on the Thursday evening I visited with my friend. What first caught my attention were the ALL DAY drinks deals $5! Even the food items were VERY reasonably priced. I'm terms of the vibe it was upbeat and fun without being overly loud that you couldn't talk to friends. Service was just as fantastic with attentive host and servers all around. I had a great time in this spot and it's location is super convenient for heading to the high line or little island +Chelsea spots. Will definitely be returning and recommending! read more

We made a reservation at 9:15 and they made us wait 45 MINUTES for a table. I would get the wait if we tried to walk in, but it's just bad service to make people wait more than 10 minutes for a table they reserved. There should be a time limit on how long people should be allowed to sit at a table because there were so many tables where they were just talking and not eating or drinking anything. In terms of food, it was great but yeah the service was just not it. read more

Food was outstandingly delicious price was very affordable the service - out of this world!! I loved the servers they were so kind and always made sure we were ok! Color scheme of outdoor and sign of an "all day happy hour" had me sold. Ordered the beef/chicken empanadas and it was tasty and not greasy. The chinaware reminded me of my mothers. Delicate. So good. The glass where drink came in seemed a bit small from what I'm used to but drink packed a mean punch! Got the passion fruit margarita and you can actually taste the passion fruit. Easy pay was a nice touch-scanned the bar code and out the door I was. Would come back to try rest of the menu. read more

Had dinner here with a friend on a Friday night. We made a reservation - which I recommended doing if you're coming on a weekend because the place was packed!(tiktok blew it up I assume). Regardless of how busy it was, we were understanding of our wait because we arrived early, & we were seated shortly after our reservation time. Although the space is small, the vibes were good & the decor is cute. Food arrived promptly after ordering, however the drinks took a bit as the bar was backed up due to volume of customers vs the 2-3 people behind the bar ( maybe they should consider pitchers for purchase? ). The food was delicious, comparable to a really good food truck. Although I wish our dishes came with extras fixings like limes, sour cream, hot sauce, etc. I had the Tinga empanada & Al Pastor tacos. The empanadas were perfectly crispy & were adequately filled, as were the tacos. Our server Kevin was excellent; very pleasant, & checked in on us many times despite how obviously busy they were! Music was loud, but a good mix of Spanish/hip hop/ classics/ pop- very upbeat. They have some kinks to work out, but overall pretty good for what it is- can't beat cheap drinks! GIVE US LIMES!! read more

Came in with my brother to try this spot out and immediately was ignored and I had to go up to one of the people behind the bar and ask if we had to seat ourselves. Only then did we get seated and Ivan took us to We ordered 3 tacos each and they were all pretty much underwhelming. I asked for a frozen margarita but they gave me them on the rocks and it's very syrupy. I sound greedy, but I also wish the marg glasses were bigger. They are the smallest I've ever had lol. It was hard to flag down Ivan since it was getting busy and 15 min later we were able to get the check and leave. Don't think I'll be returning. read more

Came here for the first time for my cousins birthday. The food is great! The drinks are small but for $5, the size fits the price. The DJ is good but it is definitely hard to hear when talking to the server. When we sat down, there were no cups at the table. We had to ask for water every time the bottle went low. They didn't have two of the drinks my cousins friends ordered so our server made it up to us by giving us shots on the house. Really nice of him to do so. Definitely would come back just to hit the bar and hear the DJ. read more

They got the vibe, and the food is nice. The nightclub vibe is really cool and the staff is friendly. It's the place to pop in to get a bite before your next engagement. The only thing that could be better is the music is way too loud but if that's the vibe they aim for, it's their choice and so is yours. read more

New and trendy spot in the Chelsea area ! The tacos were amazing, the margaritas were amazing and affordable, & the vibes were there. I am currently at the 9th ave location on Cinco de Mayo. A definit no go. Ibget it, I know it will be louder and crowded. BUT... The drinks suck. I should have expected that for $5. The music is so loud that there is no way to hear even the person next to you. They need to take it down a few notches, maybe about 10. The decible level was like standing next to a Con Ed drill. I have been here before and had a nice experience. Ifnthisbhad been my first time, I would never return... oh he**, I will never come back anyway. read more

Walked right in and seated right away today around 5pm. Such a cute spot inside and out. The pink and green theme was definitely a vibe and they even had a live DJ. The drinks were priced very well at $5, empanadas were $3 and tacos at $4. Seems like an every day all time deal, which is very convenient for any time of the day. We all got some sort of margs (allof which were very good (&strong)). Tacos were made well and quick and the elote was delicious. I will say it's definitely more of a night time spot given how loud it was with the DJ. Nonetheless we will be returning! read more

so delicious and quick ! server javiar was amazing. food was so good and drinks were cheap and strong love it!!!!!

After seating this same waitress the (shortest one) did not come back to my table until 20min later she was at the barber talking with the other waitresses. Laughing and joking, made eye contact with me multiple times. She even walked away and gave another Larry their bill. I had to get the gentleman's seeing in the pic attention to have her come to my table. When I placed my order even the house chips and salsa came with my food order. She made this experience the worst. I spoke to the manager which was sitting next to me and told her this is the worst experience she did speak to the waitress. Even offered a discount in which I declined I wasn't looking for a discount it more the service. And experience. DO NOT VIDIT THIS LOCATION read more

If you want to puke your guts out after dinner then this is the place to be! Went with three friends and we each ordered about 2 margs and 2-3 tacos and every single one of us got sick after dinner. The food and drinks are decent, nothing to run home to mama with. I'm giving this review four stars simply because MY GOD I HATE THE TIKTOK DESTROYERS. I went on a rainy night and was surprised to see how packed it was. There was suppose to be a 10-15 min wait time for a table, but we got the table after 5 mins. I got the " College Students" vibe. This place has good drinks. Good food, good ambiance , But the service is terrible, my friend and I seated at the bar , food arrived and no silverware or sharing plates , no water was offered, no another around of drinks was offered, but my bartender an afroamerican was on his front using his cell phone on front of us with cero intentions of being proactive and friendly or professional. Hummm who is the manager?? Good question!! No recommend it!! read more

I really liked this place! My friend and I reserved the table here in advance, it was pretty noisy inside because of the music so we were allowed to move outside. Then some homeless person came up to us and started to drink our cocktails (which was crazy and scary) then the server came out and sent him away, thanks to him it was very nice and thoughtful! The cocktails were amazing and the food was very delicious. Def 5 stars! read more

Awful awful Food decent Service not great, waitress became rude It's clear some of the servers here have a really bad attitude. Heard about the daily happy hour at El Coco but what people fail to mention is the size of the glasses are pretty small. They also have pitchers but stopped serving them after a certain time. Food and drinks were tasty, but the service is terrible. Let's preface this by mentioning it was my birthday... Anyways, a girlfriend and I saw this place on IG & wanted to check it out as we saw they had great prices & a great drink selection.. We get there, the vibe was great and they even sang happy birthday to me with a piece of flan... Fast forward, I return from the restroom to see my girlfriend paid our bill, and she now goes to the restroom. A server (who showed up mid-service btw) says "your friend forgot to add a tip", to which my friend said that she could've sworn she pressed the 10% option on the card reader (which is a common mistake- before this, there was no reason not to leave one) so he adamantly said "but you didn't, you chose "no tip"... which the option for that wasn't even there... he starts to get nasty & says "when you go out to restaurants, you leave a tip, that's what you do", I assured him that it wasn't our intention not to leave one... and she said she usually leaves her tips in cash anyways, so she'll just do that. Mind you, our bill was like $80. What's $10 more especially for lack luster service that he PARTIALLY gave. He wasn't attentive, he was snobby, and took long to service us but demanded we leave a tip? It wasn't right. Then he goes on to imply that she's broke, and if we didn't have the money, we don't need to be trying to patronize businesses. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE, and while I was tearing him up at the bar, I reminded him that we were going to rectify it since it didn't show up on the tab, by paying cash, and he swore we were trying to get over. It surely wasn't a language barrier; he was just an a-hole. (Who also reminded me on the way out to never return & I'm not welcomed there..) Happy Birthday to me. 8th Ave location? Trash. NO COUTH, CLASS OR DECORUM. I know where we were at, but wow. The staff here needs a major change. read more

Look, this place has great margaritas (small but strong and $5) but the music is way too damn loud. I've been here several times, but tonight was the first time I sat at the bar and then walked out 2 minutes later because I couldn't take it. Doesn't matter what time it is, this place blasts the volume like it's a nightclub. read more

$5 margaritas definitely add a bit of appeal, but overall lackluster food and service holds El Coco back. I have such mixed feelings about this place. I really wanted to love it, but it's a restaurant with an identity crisis. TLDR; Liked the all day happy hour concept, solid food, solid drinks, but the atmosphere is WAY TOO LOUD. The Good: I like the concept that it's an all day happy hour. The drinks and food are basically all $5-$10 and everything I had was solid. The portions weren't huge, but again it's a happy hour place and the food is priced accordingly. The chips were warm, the salsa was good enough but a little sweet, and the guac was decent except for the large chunk of avocado in the middle. My steak quesadilla was good. The steak was actually really well seasoned and very flavorful. The 4 bottles of salsa on table seemed home made were all really good as well. The drinks were small, but seemed to be boozy and tasted good. The Bad: This place is so freaking LOUD. It's louder than a lot of bars and night clubs I've been to. It was almost impossible to talk to the people at my table or even communicate with the waiter. And my question is: why? What is the purpose of bumping music like it's a night club so I can't converse with the people at my table? Have the DJ, fine, but turn down the volume by half. My ears were ringing when I left. This place has the potential to be an affordable, fun, and delicious happy hour spot where friends and coworkers can hangout in a fun atmosphere, but it also wants to be a night club where you can't speak to each other? It's just a weird identity crisis that until it gets figured out doesn't exactly make me want to go back read more

I cannot comment on the food because we left before ordering. The restaurant was empty except for one table of young women who were seated in the rear. We were sitting in the front and looking forward to a relaxed lunch and conversation. A man came in with a child in a stroller which he left to go behind the bar- obviously the owner. The child began to show his displeasure by emitting ear piercing shrieks which his father ignored! We were about to leave when he left so we assumed he had accomplished his errand. Wrong- he came back in and the toddler was even louder! We could hardly talk or enjoy being there so we told the waitress we were leaving. She told the owner who shouted at us that he was leaving because he couldn't be around people who hated children. Rude and abusive! We didn't want to support his business so we left. read more
