I cannot comment on the food because we left before ordering. The restaurant was empty except for one table of young women who were seated in the rear. We were sitting in the front and looking forward to a relaxed lunch and conversation. A man came in with a child in a stroller which he left to go behind the bar- obviously the owner. The child began to show his displeasure by emitting ear piercing shrieks which his father ignored! We were about to leave when he left so we assumed he had accomplished his errand. Wrong- he came back in and the toddler was even louder! We could hardly talk or enjoy being there so we told the waitress we were leaving. She told the owner who shouted at us that he was leaving because he couldn't be around people who hated children. Rude and abusive! We didn't want to support his business so we left. read more

Went to meet up with some girls for an upcoming girls trip, the place a a vibe. Super cute not too big. We all ordered something different and everything was good. They were busy so I'm guessing it's a local spot read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. Our waiter can't remember his name but he was the worst person I've ever had sever me in the city. He rolled his eyes at my friend when she asked for water. They charged us the wrong amount and then our waiter proceeded to tell us that we were wrong? He told us there were no frozen margs and then we saw other tables get frozen margs around us. The other staff was nice and helpful and we have been here before with no issues, but I'll never return just because if I had to be served by that guy ever again I seriously couldn't. He basically called us liars and he had messed up our bill but couldn't admit it even after he realized... and we all were just asking nicely As we were just curious why it wasn't adding up. Please reevaluate your staffing choices. Sucks because it's a great new fun place and to be ruined by terrible service by him. Never would recommend this place again simply because of that one waiter. (Probably know who it is, can't imagine this is his first complaint). read more

$5 margaritas Cuervo beware! But they were good. Always very packed, we ate at the bar the food was delicious. It's a young crowd, I'm in the 30s club. So if you want a more chill dinner vibe it's not here. Lots of beautiful woman dining more than half restaurant was all woman. read more

This place is a must try if you are craving Mexican food! My fiance and I actually went twice in one day for lunch and dinner. Yes, it is that good! For lunch we tried their barbacoa tacos and octopus and chorizo tacos. The tacos were overstuffed! The tortilla barely fit the fillings! The short rib meat in the barbacoa was just so juicy and moist. I love how simple it is with just cilantro and onions. It's very traditional. The chorizo and octopus was very soft and now chewy at all. They also offer 2 sauces one mild green sauce and one spicy red sauce. The spicy was not that spicy for me, but I do love the tanginess of it. The green had a good Mexican salsa flavor as well. When we went back for dinner, we both tried the skirt steak salad bowls. It came with beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream and an aioli sauce. I mixed everything together and It was fantastic. The flavors really meshed together very well. The skirt steak was seasoned very well. The ambiance for dinner is very different from the lunch. The dinner had a club vibe. It was very dark, and loud music was playing. Their drinks are very affordable as well. Most of them are under $10 which is a still when you are in the city. read more

Ridiculously not worth it - the service is absolutely horrendous. When you walk in there is no hostess to greet you and the staff completely ignores you, so we were just wandering around trying to get someone's attention to figure out if we needed to be seated or could just sit at a table. When we finally got someone's attention the manager refused to seat us at a table on a Monday evening because we said we wanted to do appetizers and drinks, not dinner. The happy hour deals are nonexistent. They'll charge you menu price no matter what you get. There is no fine print on the menu that explains the process. Not only would they not change any of our items to the advertised menu price, they also overcharged us an extra few bucks for each beer. L's all around. read more

This place needs a bigger space. It's way too small to accept large parties and the food they offer for large groups, awful. They made us pay 25 bucks each literally 1 empanada and 1 taco which doesn't include anything else. Desserts, you need to pay for that. Drinks, of course you need to pay for that but at least include that into the so called "fixed menu". Overall if you decide go here eat a heavy meal before going. This place isn't a real restaurant it's just another bar on 8th ave. P.S. To the manager/ owner Please hire a new waiter. The short one needs to go. read more

The reason I am giving them 1 star is because of the deception in service. I usually go to this establishment when I am in the Chelsea area. On this day I decided to eat at the bar. My friend and I shared 1 guacamole 2 pina coloadas 2 matgaritas and one empanada each. The bill came out to 60 dollars. At first I was confused but paid and added the tip (why bill came out to 60) I usually am a generous tipper. But something just did not feel right. After I paid I then asked to see the bill and the tip was already included. So the bartender double dipped. The problem is she gave me the machine to just pay the bill. No receipt no break down of bill no nothing. Usually you won't have to worry about this. By then it was too late she got a tip that she gave herself plus the tip I gave her. I felt that was VERY deceptive and wonder who else this has happened to. I did not have a party of over 5 and I never got the tip on the bill. I don't have a problem with that but to just ask a customer to pay with no breakdown of the bill is what I find deceptive. Very disappointed in this. I know you might not care but you have lost 2 loyal customer. read more

Happy hour all day! Great catch! Expect a small line if no reservations! The Spinach and cheese Empandas were delicious! The margaritas were good! I need to go back to try their frozen drinks when their machine is working! The chicken tacos need a lil bit more flavor! The guacamole was fresh! A live dj with great dancing music in your seat! read more

2.5/5 The food here is amazing. However the service is awful. We've had an 8 person reservation to celebrate a graduation for over a week and when we showed up they said they couldn't honor any reservations because they double booked with a party of 50. However a table ended up leaving so we were able to sit. It took 20+ minutes for the waiters to come bring us water, menus. The drinks are very small, so the $5 drinks isn't even a good deal. They're also "frozen" but are just slush in a cup. We had to basically beg our waiter to take our orders and he constantly ignored us. Even with the inconvenience of the reservation issue I would of been willing to look past that if the service made up for it. Everyone was happy with our food and the food came out fast which was a plus. The music is also SUPER loud so if you're not looking to dance or party it might not be the place for you. I'd come back during the week for lunch but never on the weekend or evening again. read more

Yummy happy hour drinks all day! Great food options, the burrito bowl was the best. And super cute decor! Love going whenever I visit NYC!

Can't see this place lasting unless they majorly improve their service. I went alone for a few bites and some frozen margaritas since it was literally 100 outside. I was tempted to walk out without ordering as I was sitting at the bar, with no bartender for about 15-20minutes. Well when the bartender got off of her cell phone she was on in the back of the dining room, she finally asked me "are you good, do you need anything" um yes I've been here for a while I'd like to order.... Well so much for my plans, their frozen machine was broken... ok fine it happens so I got it on the rocks. Was rather lack luster. Call me crazy but a Mexican restaurant should have tasty margaritas. As for food I ordered the shrimp and crab empenada, it was not good. The shell was fried perfectly but the filling was slimy and definitely imitation crab meat. I also got the chicken quesadilla it was pretty good. Not sure I'd return. read more

Great food, drinks, ambiance and service! I will return .. try it out y'all and it has great prices

For the price, in NYC, can't go wrong! I wasn't crazy about the the tacos but my cousin, gf, and I devoured those empanadas. Pretty sure we tried everything x5. For a party of 3 with SEVERAL drinks and empanadas less than $200 on a bill wasn't shabby. Service was a little bit slow b/c they got really busy, since it was a a nice Saturday afternoon, but our waiter was dope and the music was pretty good too. read more

So I came here based off tiktok, drinks are $5 all day everyday. They tacos are about $5, very small so if you're hungry you need a few same thing with the drinks you may need about 2-3 to feel it. I heard they have good empanadas but i haven't tried it. Other than that decent spot I love the pink interior read more

Save your time and money and go to Chipotle. Basically the same menu but chipotle has fresher food, better service and leads to less indigestion. A friend and I both had their specialty margaritas. Unbelievably good, the food and drinks were incredibly cheap without sacrificing quality, I couldn't stop raving about the food as it was coming out. El Coco - Frozen Sangria - Mexican Near Me - New York, New York

They list a phone number on their website that they do not actually have and the online ordering portal is fake. When you show up they make you place the order all over again and write it out by hand. We placed an order 3.5 hours in advance, showed up early to pick it up and it wasn't ready for another 1.5 hours. In that time the wait staff continued to lie that they order was being worked on when it was not. When we finally did get the food it wasn't labeled and everything was cold and soggy. 100% do not recommend this restaurant. Terrible customer service and extremely high prices, even for Chelsea. read more

Amazing food and drinks!!! The wait may be long but its totally worth it! Ask for Jonathan

Such a disappointment. The margarita was a watered down glass of ice with only a whiff of tequila. The fajita was burned at the bottom and served with two tiny tortillas that barely held a few tablespoons of filling. The waitstaff spent their time chatting and snacking, not responding to customer needs. Not returning or recommending. read more

Sweetest waiter carlos! thank you! love! amazing! perfect! I will be back on a weekend.

The service was amazing despite the server not mentioning shots are a different price than toppers. The food was great as well. She refunded me the gratuity and additional fee and I'm grateful! Def dine here for your next HH spot. read more

Very inexperienced wait staff and bartender. I went inbetween shift change. You could tell that all the wait staff are new to the industry. My new bartender, I asked for a straw for my drink. He made a whole strawberry marg. So for his mistake he gave it to me on the house. Now fast forward to me ordering another drink. He gives me a flavor marg again. In a large glass... I am unaware that this is a double including a flavor for the marg. He didn't ask if I want a single or double. I am confused in how a double is gonna be $18? If anything a regular double should be 10 then add 3 extra for the flavor. U gonna charge me 6 dollars for extra flavor. The math ain't mathin?!?! I will be contacting management about this. I use to really enjoy going to this location. But what I dealt with today was wack! read more

Yes this place is cheap but the food is of the same caliber you would expect from cheap food. The empanadas left much to be desired and it's very suspicious that they're served in paper bags and are extremely hot and dry (as if microwaved) and yet the server assured us they did not have a microwave in the kitchen. It was also admitted to us that the food (specifically the seafood) is definitely frozen. Overall, the food wasn't disgusting but the average college student could probably whip up something similar in their dorm rooms with a microwave and a hotplate. Don't come here if you're looking for a culinary experience (quite honestly Chipotle or Taco Bell might be better options for food and I'm really not exaggerating). The drinks were okay and also cheap but very small (would def recommend the pitchers over the individual drinks). The margaritas weren't my favorite although that's apparently what they're known for? They just weren't sweetened enough for my taste. Honestly, if you come here you should do it because you want to get hammered for relatively cheap in NYC and not because you plan on eating. Sitting at the bar for a drink or two and ordering a 5 dollar appetizer is probably the best way to enjoy this place. An hour, an hour and a half tops. The service was interesting. Our server was nice enough but they don't seem to have the largest staff and so we barely saw her. She came, took our orders, and disappeared. We would try to flag her down for various reasons (missing food, complaints about the food, reordering, checks) and it was like she had selective vision or simply chose to ignore us. Honestly, what puts this place at 2 stars instead of an admittedly more reasonable review of 3 stars (as far as the food was concerned) was the treatment we received. Apart from being ignored by our server on multiple occasions and taking at least 40 minutes of unsuccessful attempts of trying to get someone's attention so they could print our checks, the manager on duty that day was unpleasant. She would walk around in a suit (in this otherwise EXTREMELY casual establishment so it was very off putting to say the least) with a grimace on her face and would not speak to the patrons whatsoever. No asking how their food is, how their service was, if they needed anything. Not even a smile in anyones direction. Instead, when she wasn't stomping up and down the stairs or to the kitchen, she was standing by the bar gossiping with the server, bartenders, or what appeared to be some sort of security. Our personal experience with her was also lack luster. You see, we were a party of five and when we sat down we immediately questioned if we could split the bill. We were informed by the server that we could either do two separate checks or one single check. This was less than ideal but our party could realistically split into two so we accepted the two way split, one side of the table would take one check and the other would take the second check. It was very simple and our server had no problem with it. As I have alluded to, one of our members had an issue with her empanadas as they were seriously lacking in quality. She had cut them both open tried them by nibbling on them and flagged a waiter down to tell them she didn't like them and wanted them to be taken back and have them cut from the check considering they were completely intact and she had not eaten them whatsoever. This (seemingly) wasn't an issue and they readily struck it from the check. I mention this because, shortly after this, as we're trying to wrap up the night, the manager comes up to us and with no preamble, introduction, or greeting, haughtily informs us that the check can no longer be split as it would be "too difficult" and that'd be treating it as if we were "two separate tables". Keep in mind: we only sat down because we were told it could be split and only after complaining about the food were we informed this wouldn't be possible. What we found the most ironic is that when we received the bill, after the 30+ minutes of us trying to get it, the food was already divided. For example, on one of the original checks we had gotten 2 empanadas and the other side of the table had also gotten 2 empanadas. In total, we had 4 empanadas as a table. However, the check listed both sets of those empanadas separately instead of all together, indicating that the check was already split. Similar things happened for the drinks we had ordered. 5 in total but listed separately as 2 and 3. This makes clear to me that we could in fact split the check, the manager just decided she didn't want to. TLDR; Food was bad quality, drinks were okay and cheap, service was lacking and manager was unpleasant. If you come, come before a night out, only sit at the bar, order some drinks and go about your night after an hour. Or come after work for a drink and keep it moving. Not worth anything more. Overall bad vibes. read more

I've been coming here for a while and I love this spot for a good happy hour/ chill vibe. However last night I did not have the best experience. My family and I (party of 4) went in for our reservation at 8:30 and we didn't get seated until 9 and a group of 4 that came in after us got seated before us. The food was GREAT and our server sabrina was very sweet. An hour goes by and the host (i think his name is ceaser) comes to our table and tells us that we have to start getting ready to go because other tables need to be seated (while we were still eating). Please Note: when you make a reservation it tells you that you have the table for 90 minutes. Our server proceeded to tell him that she had 4 other tables who were seated before us that haven't ordered in a while( i don't like to pull the race card but they were all caucasian), weren't eating or drinking, and that it wasn't right to ask us to leave especially because we were ACTUALLY spending money. This was honestly such a disappointing experience especially since we go so often. read more

Super cute place! Lovely friendly host who looked like a much younger and prettier Gwyneth Paltrow. I was suspicious since everything was so reasonably priced and the drinks were plain cheap but as soon as the fresh and real guacamole hit the table, I knew it was gonna be good. I came in Saturday around 5:30 after a stressful day at work with two picky foodie teenagers and we loved it all. Especially good frozen margarita that packed a punch. Good attentive service, we'll be back. read more
