Fish tacos and Chips and Salsa
Sierra W.

Overall we weren't impressed and won't return. Food was decent but not great. We agreed a lot of volume and not actual substance. The fish tacos had a lot of veggies and such but not much meat. The enchilada I ordered was chicken and it was super dry. Horchata was the worst I've had and watery. Server rushed us even though they didn't close for another 3 hours. Servers also didn't write down our orders which resulted in them forgetting an item and we had to remind them. We sat on the outside patio which was nice and spacious but can't say about the inside since we never entered. The chips and salsa was the best part of the meal. You can skip this place.

Vegan enchiladas

Love love love that they have vegan options!! It's so hard to find vegan options in Mexican restaurants that aren't just giving "remove the meat and cheese and sour cream and hey, at least it's vegan even though there's literally nothing substantial left" vibes, lol. Instead, El Chupacabra has multiple vegan meat options and also vegan cheese that is actually tasty! So you don't feel shortchanged at all like at a lot of Mexican restaurants where the so-called vegan option is just some puny beans and lettuce thrown into a tortilla wrap. I normally get take-out, but this time we ate in. The server was super nice and fast and efficient. The vibes are dark and dive-y, with cute gothic decor (think sparkly bats and skeleton humour). The food was acceptable (Seattle just doesn't really do good Mexican food so that's the highest compliment I can usually give at a Mexican place, lol). The guacamole was good and had a nice little kick to it. The portion sizes were excellent. I had the vegan enchiladas with one "steak" and one "chicken" and liked both mock meats. My only slight gripe was cleanliness -- there were some cobwebs hanging over the seating divider and the booth itself had some crumbs etc. before we sat down -- but these didn't really negatively affect my opinion, just that the place could stand a bit of a deep clean after hours perhaps.

Mission Style Burrito

A tiny mexican spot with decent food and drinks. The burrito we had was huge and good but didn't really like the vegan chicken in green salsa filling. The-staff here is very helpful and quick . The place looks very cinco de mayo coded and has a patio to enjoy the summers

Guacamole and Chips

Warm July evening- Friday, waited about ten minutes for a seat on the deck. Friendly service, if maybe a little...aloof? But whatever...they were super busy. Chips, salsa and guac to start. It was nothing special. Tasty but not unique...just chips and salsa. Drinks next- house marg for me. I had two so ‍. Skinny marg for my friend. It lacked flavor. Horchata for the kid. He liked it but was not overwhelmed. He wasn't underwhelmed either. I suppose that means he was 'whelmed.' I had the carne asada enchiladas with red sauce. Pretty good, though the main spice coming through was salt. Others had chicken enchiladas and the chimichangas. All around we enjoyed it but were not raving. The atmosphere was pleasant. Loud music dominated a little... The price was reasonable, I suppose...$100 not counting tip, for three people. I ordered two enchiladas and could only eat one. Everyone else cleaned their plate. I'd go again but the food is not a highlight.

Visited El Chupacabra's deck on a gorgeous July noon. The place was quiet, allowing for instant self-seating. The shaded deck created a relaxing vibe, perfect for sipping margaritas, munching on chips and salsa, and enjoying a burrito. The deck's ambiance is fantastic, with full shade across all seats--ideal for lingering with drinks and browsing the web. I didn't check for Wi-Fi, and my iPhone signal was weak, but it didn't detract from the experience. The chips & salsa portion was massive, easily enough for two or more. The salsa reminded me of a watery Pico de Gallo. I only ate about a fifth the chips and, since they came with my meal, I'd skip ordering this separately next time unless with a group and having drinks. The 10" burrito was substantial; I ate two-thirds and couldn't finish it. They offered to pack it up, but it was too messy to save. Next time, I might try a crispy chimichanga. Overall, lunch was enjoyable, though the bill for drinks, chips, and an entree hit around $40--higher than expected, but fine for a carefree day.

Not the place for veggies, but always the GOAT for vibes and good gnosh. Great vegan options always.

We visited El Chupacabra in Greenwood with a large group to celebrate my cousin's graduation, and it couldn't have been a better choice. The staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly--service was smooth even with our big party. The menu had great vegan and vegetarian options, which was a huge plus for our group. Everyone loved their meal--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere was another highlight: spooky, eclectic, and full of character without feeling overdone. It made the whole experience feel fun and unique. We sat on the patio, which was a really nice option on a pleasant evening. The bathrooms were clean and acceptable, and everything we needed was easy to access. Highly recommend for a casual but memorable night out with friends or family--especially if you appreciate great food and a quirky, fun vibe!

I love their decor, patio, drinks and especially their burrito with red sauce. This is my favorite restaurant so far in the neighborhood.

Ask the Community - El Chupacabra

Do you guys fry taco chips and meat items in the same fryer? I am vegan want to make sure that before ordering taco chips. Thank you

The fryer is shared. But most menu items can be substituted and made completely vegan.

What's the best thing to order here that's not spicy at all? Hard to infer from the reviews.

I would say anything! Simply remove or put pico on the side, choose whole beans and a non spicy meat (all but the chicken tinga). You may ask your server, they are great at re-arranging dishes to suit your needs!

Are dogs allowed on the patio?

No. They are not

Is this place good for a party of 8?

Hi Jennifer! We are best suited for smaller groups (we have one 6-top, and ten 4-top tables inside the restaurant). Staff may seat a party of 8 by moving tables together, but you might experience wait time if tables are not available that can be…

Why is this bad for kids? I took my toddler with us and she ate the chips and beans happy as clam.

We took a 2 year old and it was fine !

Both are dog friendly and our waiter even brought my dog a water bowl! Our servers were attentive and friendly. Food and drink were prepared and served quickly. Thank you Luke and Jeff for the wonderful service! I would recommend the brisket sandwich with a fries upgrade. The brisket is tender and juicy and pairs well with the slaw. The ciabatta bun is the best vehicle for all the deliciousness of the sandwich. But the stand out for me was the fries! Perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection, dipped in the aioli...YUM! To drink, I had the non-alcoholic spicy blueberry mocktail. It's spicy from the Fevertree ginger beer and slightly sweet from the blueberry. The fresh mint was a fragrant and delightful garnish. It comes in the coolest copper mug! If you're in the Ballard/Fremont area looking for outside seating, cocktails/mocktails, and tasty food, make sure to check out The Barrel Thief!

We were the only ones in there for a while and so had a chance to talk with Geoff, who made great recommendations for food and was very pleasant and friendly. Everything we tried was delicious. My friend initially ordered a drink that wasn't on happy hour as she had forgotten to ask about it, and at the end, Jeff had changed the price to a happy hour price since he didn't let her know about that in advance. Very class move and going the extra mile in a way that makes a huge difference and leaves along lasting impression on the customer! Happy hour food menu is small, but that seems to be for a reason, because what they do they do well!

We were in the Fremont area after going to a nearby coffee shop (Moment), and wanted to eat Thai…read morefood. We saw that Kin Len Thai Night Bites was just a few blocks up North so we decided on that, not knowing anything about it before. To our pleasant surprise, we entered the door and waited to get seated. Once we followed the host to our table, we realized the space opened up more than we had realized (when you first get inside it is just a lobby area), then we saw the theme of the restaurant's name come to life "Thai Night Bites" with dark wood furniture, a bar with a rounded rooftop and a light-up sign (maybe neon), the tri-color flags hanging from the ceiling to represent the culture. Service was kind, attentive, and patient as we ended up ordering one appetizer to start with then ending up ordering another one when they came back. We didn't plan on being there during Happy Hour but it just happened to be that way; we decided to order from the 3pm-6pm happy hour menu since we were there at 5pm. In the photos, you can see we got the Chicken Red curry vermicelli Crispy Fried Egg , Crispy Garlic Prawns with Sticky Rice & Shrimp Chips, Papaya Salad. All 3 items were great honestly, would order again FOR SURE. We are pretty cautious when ordering new dishes from places we haven't been, instead of going safe like getting a Pad See Ew or Pad Thai, but we were so glad we made the decision to try these! We ate all of the papaya salad and chicken curry vermicelli (although the vermicelli made me super full and I definitely could of took the rest to-go), then we left with a box of the remaining grilled prawns, sticky rice, and shrimp chips. We will definitely be back here again, we enjoyed the atmosphere, the service, the taste/readiness/speed of the food. We aren't in Fremont much, but whatever hassle it may take to find parking / getting here, I feel is worth it if you see things from their menu and are interested! So try it out and let me know your favorites too

Been a regular and returning customer for a while. Always order spicy bomb wings and unfortunately…read moreit is getting from good to bad to worse. The size of the wings shrunk significantly. And today, the order is the most disappointing one ever. There is almost no sauce on the wings and the existing sauce is diluted as water (not thick and flavorful as it was). Very disappointed. The wings are bland. If there is no improvement made on this, I won't order the wings ever again. Seems like corners are being cut here and there for this dish until there is no quality at all. The drunken noodles however still maintain the quality and taste as it was, so kudos to that. Service wise is just average. Expect to wait in line if you dine in and if you are being sat at the bar area, everybody needs ID.
