We had lots of fond memories from this company as my mother in law worked at a different one for years. So my husband and I tried this location recently, and it did make him a little emotional to be there since his mother died several years ago. But that nostalgia soon faded. This building needs some serious updating. The ceiling is disgusting. The service was ok but not great. The enchiladas were as expected. Not bad. But the big disappointment was the queso. That was the deciding factor and it was definitely not like we remembered. Bland and terribly runny. Won't have to make a special trip again to go here. My daughter and grandchildren and myself went to El Chico's for lunch today, and it with a misunderstanding on the meals that was OK and then I paid Apple Pay with a QR code on my receipt. I checked my bank to make sure it went through and we got a bit left. And I got out to my car and I'm assuming he was the manager come running out saying she said y'all didn't pay and I showed him on my bank where I did pay and then he's like what is that for today? I could not believe that question and he's like well hold on and let's make sure it went through. I said well it went through on my end and I'm not sitting out here in the cold wind because I've been sick and I told him I said I have been coming to this El Chico's for 40 years and I've never had an issue until now and I will never come back. I haven't been to an El Chico in a long time and decided to come here with a friend for dinner. The service was great and our waiter was attentive. I ordered guacamole for the table and it's prepared in front of you. The guacamole was made nicely but could've went with a little less lime. For my entree, I ordered the mama's favorite enchilada dinner (one beef, one chicken) and it came with rice and beans. It is your typical texmex but I enjoyed it. read more

I hate that I now have to drive half a day to eat the best tortilla soup that ever was, but when I do, I never regret it.

I've been going to El Chico's ever since they first opened that restaurant in Rockwall. And I can say hands down the service and food is absolutely wonderful. The store is always clean and there's always so friendly and greet you when you first walk in. Back in 1990 this El Chico was as dark as a dungeon and the bar was only about 3' long. But it was one of only 3 or 4 restaurants in town, so we all ate here. Flash forward about 30 years, and there are a pile of restaurants on every corner. Heck; there are 5 or 6 Mexican restaurants! But El Chico has kept up with the times; it has been remodelled inside & out, it is as light and bright as a park, and the food is still excellent! My Chicken Enchiladas were as good as I remembered, and the Queso Blanco was thin but super good! You might want to reconsider if you're ordering from Chicos. We have had numerous order errors the last one which was the final blow was ordering beef fajitas and having no tortillas to use with the meals. Prior to that we had ordered a frozen margarita for myself and came home and it was not there even though we were charge for it. When we called and asked to speak to a manager, we were told there was no manager so I can only speak to you about takeout. I miss review, and that is choose another Mexican restaurant!! !!! if you do choose to take this risk, make sure you open the bags and check everything out before you leave the restaurant or you will probably be sorry when you get home for dinner with your family. It I do have to say that we have eaten there before and everything was fine but as far as takeout is concerned, I highly recommend you do not go there. read more

I often come here with the in-laws and gang because it's their fave for several dishes. I must say the tacos (neither traditional nor "Americanized" like Taco bell) weirded me out at first and so I stuck with trying other options, knowing I'd have to come back time and time again for our various family meet-ups. Despite starting at a 2-star for me it's thanks to their amazingly yummy chicken tortilla soup that I will keep coming back for more. I've also enjoyed the fajitas, but the CTS is a star for me so Idk if I wanna try much else. There is lettuce in the guacamole, so much that I didn't even eat it, and I love guac. But lettuce does not belong in guac. The enchiladas are not made from fresh chicken. I'm not sure if it was from a can or blended in a food processor but it was GROSS. The manager was kind enough to suggest a meal made with fresh chicken. If you're looking for white queso, their "white queso" isn't real white queso. It's Tex Mex and far from authentic. Food was just ok(ish). This is definitely not a place that you would ever highly suggest to anyone. Their soda machine was down, so limited in drink selection. Staff was nice. Restaurant was clean and nice. read more

My boss and I had a work luncheon here with Client's this week. Here's the skinny.... Location: Easy to locate. Right off the highway on the right hand side. Plenty of parking. Atmosphere: Festive and Clean. Staff: knowledgeable about the menu, friendly but forgetful. Prices: Reasonable. We ate from the lunch menu. Everything was under $12. Food quality: I can only speak for my dish, which wasn't anything special. I had the Monterey Jack chicken with rice and veggies. The rice was dry, the veggies were grilled to long, which resulted in them being burnt. The chicken was tender and juicy. The table side guacamole was delicious. A little heavy with the lime juice though. All in all it was a free meal so, I was happy about that. I'd return for a future visit. read more

My wife and I dined at El Chico yesterday in Rockwall tans were very pleased at our experience there. While waiting briefly to be seated we could see the staff cleaning and disinfecting the seating areas. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Our waiter, Javan, was excellent. He handled our orders correctly and handled our drink and salsa refills without being asked. He was attentive without being intrusive. The food was fresh and delicious.
