For a family of four, we had an order of enchiladas, an order of tacos, a burrito and a chimichanga. It was very authentic very fresh and the portions were large. I thought it was a little pricey, but honestly, I think that about everything these days, lol. For example, I've never seen an order of tacos only two. Typically an order of tacos are three tacos. So it's two tacos for about $10. And it comes with nothing. That was for my youngest son, and he ate it, but I will say I ordered the gringo tacos because he's a typical picky Child. The tacos were not ground meat. They were Carne Asada. And it didn't say that. So he ate it, but he didn't love it. we ordered this delivery and I think this would be a better place to dine in. I'm assuming it's possible. For example, my son's chimichanga was completely soggy and wet because it was fried but they didn't ventilate it properly for delivery. I felt bad for him, but he's a teenager and he inhaled it anyway thank goodness. But I would've been turned off. Like a huge soggy egg roll. bleh. Unassuming and charming. Fresh cut flowers everywhere. Service is authentic with a smile. Food is DAYMN good. The nachos with guac is on the money. A twist of lime brings it altogether. The quesadilla is a solid meal. SOLID! Ya hear me! SOLID!!! This isn't two tortillas with a thin layer of cheese and whatnot. This is a meal. The charred steak meal!!! Everyone there was so nice and accommodating. The vibes were there, with different patterns and colorful decorations. There was little wait time for the food, even with a table of 6, with around 5-10 minute wait. The food tasted fresh, but lacked spice. However, there were two sauce bottles that allowed one to add spice if needed. The price was a little higher than it could have been, but definitely worth it for the quick wait time and the freshness. Definitely worth a second visit. read more

I haven't been here in years, but baybeeeee, the food was so much better than I remember. The green salsa you get with the fresh chips is fireeee. Not as in spicy, but as in effing delicious. Here's what we got on our most recent trip: -Fountain Coke -Side of fries -Texas-style nachos -beef flautas with rice and beans -chicken enchiladas (verde) with rice and beans. In total, our bill was like $42. Portions were BIG AF. The place was pretty dead, so it was super COVID FRIENDLY. But anyway, let me tell you about these MF enchiladas. THEY WERE AMAZING. Either I never tried them before, or this place has stepped it up because these were the best enchiladas I've ever had. They definitely have a kick but if you like heat, they're delishhhhh. We decided to try some of the local dive Mexican Restaurants in the Malvern area, so we dropped into El Charros. We have driven by it a thousand times and never ventured in. Tonight that changed. The server was quick, friendly, professional and helpful. Great first impression. The atmosphere reminded me of places I have went to in Texas. It's simple, clean and family style casual. The food is fresh and pretty standard. Nothing out of the ordinary but decent. Not sure we will venture there again but it was okay. A quaint, authentic Mexican spot in Malvern--how unexpected! The cashier was super nice and helped me sift through the menu, reviewing the popular items and his favorite dishes. I ended up choosing a light meal: a barbacoa taco, a beef taco, and a Jarrito tamarindo soda for to-go. The chef skillfully crafted my tacos, and I can tell these tacos were created by a man who knows his tacos. I appreciate that my order was packaged very neatly. The two tacos have a refreshing flavor blast, in the healthiest way possible, assembled with fresh ingredients. However, my only complaint is that the meats were distinctively dry and not particularly tender. Since I am a taco connoisseur, I instinctively compared this with what I know best--the tacos of Elmhurst in NYC. El Charro Negro is a strong contender but falls flat in regard to my previous experience with authentic tacos from densely populated Mexican areas. Despite this, I would still come back to enjoy the authentic cuisine here and look forward to trying other items on the menu. read more

I've had my eye on trying this place out and it only took a pandemic for me to finally place an order. So when I try a new place I usually order a few things just to try a little bit of everything. So first up was a tongue taco..... I'm a fan. Never having beef tongue before, I don't have a comparison. But, I'll be ordering that one again. I found it had a mild beef flavor and tender. The texture was a lot more tender then I was expecting. I went with the Res Alambre it was perfectly cooked and definitely had leftovers for my quarantined lunch the next day. I forgot I also ordered churros, they were wonderful and I managed to save one for breakfast with my coffee the next day. I have tried quite a few over the years and they were in the top half. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and perfect amount of sugar and cinnamon on them. 2020 has been horrible. But finding a tasty restaurant that makes awesome food makes it a little easier. read more

We stopped in for a quick taco lunch. For me it was Barbacoa, Al Pastor & Chorizo. Always love the authentic street tacos and these were the real deal. I finished off these three bad boys in seconds with some great hot sauces. 2.75 each is a great deal too. The guy who served us was so friendly and welcoming. This was by far the worst Mexican food I have ever had. It looked like gyro meat on a tortilla that had absolutely no flavor.

I was a little wary pulling up to park as the structure itself is super underwhelming. My husband said, "You know it's authentic if it's a hole in the wall!" Meh, I don't know if I share his sentiments. Anyway, it didn't look great from the outside, but all was good on the inside. It was clean and comfortable. Far from fancy, but not bad at all. Actually, the food was great! Tasty and quick. I docked a star because the waitress was grumpy. To be honest, that doesn't always bother me, but it was almost like she had to force herself to not smile. My baby smiled at her and when she realized she smiled, she regretted it. Also, the food is authentic, so if you're looking for Chilis food or Qdoba, go to Chilis or Qdoba, because that food isn't here. Now, I found this place at random while driving up Lancaster Ave. I can't resist trying a New Mexican place. I decided to go basic: Three tacos, one chicken, one carne asada, one carnitas, and rice and beans. The basket of chips and salsa was pretty good, but a few of the chips were unevenly cooked. At least that means they're freshly made. The tacos, simply excellent. A little on the mild side seasoning wise on the chicken and steak, but the salsa flavor fixed that. The meal kicks off with complimentary salsa and chips - the chips are fried in-house with their corn tortillas and are great, moderately salted with maybe a bit of lime. The red salsa is on the sweet side and has a slightly goopy texture which reminded me of ketchup. The green salsa had better flavor but still tasted like canned tomatillos. I ordered the chiles relleno. The fry seemed to be a little on the dark side and the chiles weren't very plump; the cheese that they had been stuffed with was thin and old. Just lacking freshness and flavor overall. There was a large amount of a thin red sauce which tasted watery. I would not recommend ordering this dish. The beans and the rice that came with it were very decent though, so that leads me to believe there is potential in the rest of the menu, and perhaps this is just a hard dish to pull off well. read more

When it comes to weekday lunches to me nothing beats a good taco. It's tasty, filling, and doesn't make you feel like you just shaved 5 years off your life. So i will admit I used to be one of the typical "follow the crowd" type that went to Chipotle for a taco fix, but after spending 45 minutes in a line one day I decided to branch out and try something new. Enter El Charro Nego. This is a small restaurant near Wawa on 30 that isn't that busy during the lunch hour. I've never had to wait in line to get my food there. So far i've only had their tacos and guacamole (as that is my typical lunch choice when I'm up for mexican food) but they do have a decent size menu and i'll probably try other selections at some point. They have a 3 for $6 taco deal during the week that is well worth it, their tacos are simple yet delicious and have much more flavor than the assembly line of Chipotle. The downside is that you really don't have much of a say as to what goes into your taco but i've never really asked as i'm perfectly happy with what they put on them. They also serve fish/shrimp tacos although it's not included in the 3 for $6 deal so just remember that. They include a green verde salsa and a medium chipotle pepper salsa and I believe they have a Habanero salsa on request. (haven't been bold enough to try that yet). I also typically get guacamole on the side as that's my favorite thing to have with chips and it's hard to go wrong with guac. It is more expensive than Chipotle but they give you twice as much so really cost wise it's about the same, just remember they give you a lot. I like El Charro's chips better as they aren't as overtly salty as the other guy's and have a more baked taste to them. Overall I'm very satisfied with El Charro Negro in terms of quality of food and speed of service (i'm usually in and out in 10 minutes) and someday i'll have to take up the "spend $15 and get a free margarita".
