I don't know if El Chalan is the oldest Peruvian restaurant in Miami, but it likely is among the oldest, been around since 1985. Way before Peruvian restaurants become as numerous as Chinese restaurants or McD's in Miami. The restaurant manages to be pretty good with the upkeep of the the place. The food is good, though hardly the best with so much competition around. One time we had the tallarines verdes with chicken and the meat was totally dry. I like their Aguadito Mixto, a seafood soup for cilantro lovers. I always order their chicha morada, which is more flavorful than at other Peruvian restaurants,

I recently visited El Chalan Restaurant, and I can absolutely see why it's my sister's favorite place to eat! The Peruvian food here is outstanding. I had the Tri Color Fish Ceviche, and we shared the Seafood Fried Rice. My niece ordered the Lomo Saltado, and my dad, cousin, and sister shared two orders of the Jalea de Pescado. Every single dish was delicious and incredibly fresh. The portion sizes were great, and the price was very reasonable--everything came out to around $140 for all of us. Though the place is small, the atmosphere was cozy, and the service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, made sure we had everything we needed, and frequently refilled our waters. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for amazing Peruvian food and great service!

Food was hot and fresh but the jalea pretty much had calamari, not too much of a "mix" as its supposed to be. Service was great though. The down side of this place its that it's very small and it doesn't sell cocktails, just beers and sangrias.

Got the pescado el macho (grilled not fried) and it was delicious! Peruvian food is served this was a great first time visit on a busy Sunday afternoon

It's nothing fancy but the staff are always friendly and the Peruvian food is great! The ceviche is fresh and has so much flavor. The fried red snapper fish is well seasoned and the presentation is great when they serve it. Sometimes the best places are simple!

So it favors more of the grab and go unless you get lucky with an open seat or don't care eating in a crowded environment. As for the food, everything tasted fresh and homemade. We had the Arepa de Choclo, Pan de bono, the corn cake, and the mini cheese breads. Listed in order from our most favorite to not so much. The cheese bread could have been a little better. Felt dry and kinda hard. But the Pan de bono was perfectly buttery and soft and the Corn bread and Arepa de Choclo were both very flavorful and delicious. They had a huge variety of Colombian treats and snacks to choose from while there. We opted to try a white cheese with guava jam filled center. It was amazing. My wife had the guanabana shake and she said it was reminiscent of her childhood. Staff were friendly and took their time to answer so many questions we had. They also had a nice selection of frozen items to take home. Great option when looking for Colombian baked goods or snacks.
