I came here with my friends for bottomless brunch. During brunch time you have the option of mimosas or margaritas. We all sticked to mimosas because the margaritas didn't taste all that good. It was watered down. I wish they keep the mimosas flowing but they didn't. We had to call the server every time we wanted more mimosas and they would take a while to bring it. The food was alright, nothing special. We had the chance to try everything on the menu. My favorite thing was the flautas, they were pretty good. Had a really great experience at El Centro for dinner with some friends! Service: Everyone was very nice and the service was super fast. One pro-tip I have, MAKE A RESERVATION and MAKE IT IN ADVANCE lol. For DC in general its difficult to find restaurants with quality food last minute at a decent time. We were lucky enough to snag a reservation day off on a waitlist. The ambiance was cute, more on the casual/trendy side than anything else -- but I really enjoyed the vibe. Food: AMAZING. We ordered the guac as an appetizer. It was slightly bland but I love avocados so naturally I couldn't stop eating it. The chips were also definitely made in house! I loveeee fresh, warm and crispy chips. So freaking good. For dinner I got cheese enchiladas, it came with the delicious green sauce, and yummy rice and beans! Ask for the hot sauce -- it seems like they have their own brand and it was so good with the enchiladas -- its honestly probably what made me like it so much. I'd go back just for this dish. Drinks: The only downside was the fact that I didn't love the house marg. It was too sweet- tasted more like mixer than anything. I probably won't get this again if I go. Overall 9/10! I've been here before and had no complaints but stopped in with a large group on Saturday afternoon and it was the worst service I have had in a long time. It started out fine. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas and a couple other drinks and some guac but when we said we didn't want anything else just then the waitress looked so mad. We all noticed it. The guac was really good. The margaritas were ok although we asked for salt on the glasses and didn't get that. As we are chatting and drinking she comes around and starts pouring the rest of the pitcher into our glasses without saying anything or asking if we want anything else and then comes back with our check and just sets it on the table. We ignored it and when she came back to get it I politely said that we weren't done and might order more and she says well there's another table coming in at 7:15. It was about 6:25 when she said this. I said no problem we will definitely make sure we are finished by then and she walked away. She came back again maybe 15 minutes later just asking us to pay the bill and I said we weren't done again and she talked about that other reservation again. We would have 100% ordered more if she hadn't been so rude but at that point we paid the bill and left. The restaurant wasn't full. There were plenty of open tables so we weren't taking up space they needed so there was no reason to act that way. I should have asked to speak to a manager so it's on me for not doing that. I was in the Georgetown area and a college peer of mine wanted to grab a quick bite at El Centro. We sat at the bar as the seating area was packed. The space isn't that big so it was pretty comfortable and not as loud as I assumed it would be. My peer was in a rush so we swiftly put in our order. I got the guacamole & a side of Maduros Planatanos. The bartender's attitude was so off-putting. We had to ask him for a glass of water which he begrudgingly gave us. I felt he was coming off rude because we weren't there for bottomless mimosas. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because he's probably been working all weekend and was burnt out. We tried this place out for a Valentine's Day brunch! I'm so late in posting the review because I've just been so busy LOL. The hostess at the front were kind of dry, and seemed confused but they asked us for our Covid card and sat us pretty quick. They had a prefixed menu which was super delicious it included tacos three ways (I had chicken Tinga), Huevos rancheros, breakfast enchiladas, fruit cocktail and churros. They had bottomless drinks including mimosas, margaritas, and bloody Maria. I tried all of them... I found out I'm not a fan of bloody Mary's no matter how they're made (personal preference). The ingredients were very fresh. They also had a special drink called El beso and my oh my was it so fresh and delicious. This place really knows how craft a cocktail, and keeps them coming! Reserved a table at El Centro for a brunch with my girlfriends. We were excited for the bottomless brunch option. The spot has a dive-ish feel which I don't mind. It is casual and fun. However, the service and food did not impress. Drinks: They have four bottomless drink options, two of which are Bloody Mary's and they were out of Bloody Mary mix leaving us with two options. I didn't mind, but you could have thought for a bottomless brunch spot, they would be prepared to have a high demand for their drinks. The traditional margaritas were great. The glasses are tall and the right ratio of marg mix to tequila was there. I didn't try their last drink option, mimosas, however my friend did who seemed to like them because she kept with those the entire brunch. They come in a much smaller glass than the margaritas so you'll need a good couple of them. A big downfall though, it took sometime for the refills. I was out of a drink for quite some time before our waitress finally came around to refill my glass. Food: Fruit Cocktail (4.5/5) - it's fruit and sorbet, not much too it but enjoyable. I will say, didn't like the seeds it was topped with. It felt like when you bite into a seed while eating watermelon, didn't want that crunch with my fruit. One of the major spots in the Georgetown area, surprised I hadn't been to El Centro until now. Came for Taco Tuesday doubled up with happy hour - $5 margs, $2 tacos, what's not to like? Well for me... Kind of all of it. The regular margarita was on point, but for some reason my frozen marg went 2/2 for being way too salty - even before stuff fell off the rim of the glass. Also if you're super picky about consistency, the drinks for the night were pretty underfrozen, probably needed another 15 minutes in the machine before it got to slushy texture. The tacos we had were 3 options: chorizo, lengua, and a veggie one with portabellos. The meat ones were pretty on point, with lengua being slightly spicy. But the veggie one was offputting - somehow those mushrooms felt a step below slimy. And with a lone cold corn tortilla as a base, it just kills me that 30 seconds on a flat top would have raised the game so much. Honestly I can't complain that much for the price. But I was there for happy hour - my friend and a date got 2 margs each for $50 some dollars. If you can snag a deal it's okay, but I don't think I would go for menu pricing. read more

Rating this place was a hard debate. On one hand, the food is good. On the other: the food is definitely over priced and the service was adequate. We went for lunch. There is basically no meal under $10 available. Their lunch special is $14 as a starting price. For me, if I'm going to pay about $20 (including tip) a plate it better be pretty amazing. It was good, not bad, but nothing especially unique. Bottom line: I wouldn't go back. Georgetown is an expensive area, but when you have places like the incredible Falafel Inc. right around the corner, I think the price needs to be more in line with the quality of food you're getting. Honestly... this has never happened to me anywhere before. My friend and I showed up for happy hour and were told about a 45 min table limit. That's absolutely fine, we ordered the margaritas and realized the margaritas didn't taste like alcohol. So we ordered another... and didn't feel anything. I then realized I had my breathalyzer in my purse. At 130 pounds... I should be have a pretty high BAC after 2 margaritas. I blew a 0.0, there was no booze in the margs. This place does not have authentic Mexican food, I got the Huevos Rancheros this is the one plate you can't go wrong with and it was not good. The tortillas are totally drenched in oil, they are soggy, my avocado was black, the plate itself was messy. The bloody Maria I would expect to taste rich in lime juice, tomato juice, Woschestire sauce, pepper, tajin, like a Mexican drink would but honestly it's tasted like a regular American Bloody Mary. I'm always down for a happy hour, and the drinks at El Centro for $7 did not disappoint. I'd come back for the margaritas in a heartbeat, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. My party of five arrived for happy hour, and we stayed for about two hours. In that time, our waters were only refilled once after hitting empty. While most of us wanted additional drinks or to place a food order, two had to leave before they got the chance, and I had to flag down the waiter in order to do so after waiting a 30 min. When it came time to pay, we were all really confused. We had told the waiter initially that we were going to split the bill, but he brought back a single receipt and said that the system they're using doesn't allow for splits. This was extra weird because one of the girls had been to El Centro before and definitely recalled splitting. I don't know, it's possible our waiter was a little new. But we all agreed that he should've mentioned this beforehand! The only thing I got to try food-wise were the chips and guac. Firstly, she lied and said the patio was completely full for reservations so we couldn't move from our seat that was LITERALLY on the road, 3 hours later - no one there. We enjoyed a few El Centro margaritas, an order of Don Nachos, and the three featured tacos. What I appreciate about El Centro's food the most is the attention to flavor: each bite is special. I would never be spiteful and post a negative review about a restaurant without taking all the factors into consideration, but after visiting this location several times, I think this review is indicative of the overall experience. I write this review in the hopes that this DC staple will see this as constructive criticism, as what we have experienced on this visit was clearly not a one off experience. After a full work day, and trying to take advantage of the beautiful patio weather, my wife and I made an 8:30 reservation for El Centro. We showed up early and were sat at 8:25. The server comes by and asked us to quickly place an order because they were closing at 9pm. We had a few questions but we were ready to order when he showed up. In short he told us, "We don't have what you want. It's a popular item for Taco Tuesday." Because of that my wife asked, "Can I have another second to look over the menu?" And he replied, "No you need to order now before the kitchen closes." Again, at 8:35. Five minutes after our reservation. I'm of the opinion that a restaurant is well within their right to close a kitchen before closing their doors, but don't offer reservations for 30 minutes before closing if you're going to cut service short. Our drinks arrived and food arrived roughly 20 minutes later and the server apologized for the wait. Then he appeared with two shots on the house! That's when it hit me: Our waiter was also the bartender and deep in the weeds with nearly 10 tables. This isn't his fault by any means, rather management that has understaffed their store for a Taco Tuesday night. I understand stores are strapped to get by during the pandemic, but there has to be a better way to operate so that all stakeholders involved have a positive experience. Needless to say with the photos attached, the food was great and the drinks hit the spot. But El Centro can prove to be more stressful than it's worth at times, especially with all of the other Mexican restaurant options in town. read more

The inside of the restaurant looked similar to the Disney movie "Encanto." The food came out quickly and there was never empty plates at our table. Really unprofessional behavior from this restaurant. On 11/29, I made a reservation on OpenTable for two outdoor tables. I called to confirm that they'd be able to take our group outdoors (even in December) and was told we would seated in the back deck with 2 tables next to each other. A colleague called again to confirm. Upon arrival for our reservation on 12/13, we were denied the seating that we had confirmed both with OpenTable and restaurant management over the phone. We were given different explanations for this upon arrival - one was that there was not wait staff to serve outdoor and the other was that renovations were being done. However after 2 hr, that 4 people sit was empty till the end and no 12 people showed up, also the table was not set up like there were 12 people's group. We were looking for lunch spot in the Georgetown area. After checking a few places out in the waterfront , we settled on El Centro D.F. The other brunch spots we considered had an hour wait to get seated. This restaurant came highly recommended by our friend Mary who lives in the neighborhood. We stopped in on Saturday for their brunch. The brunch runs $39.00 and includes all their menu items and alcoholic beverages. We arrived a little after lunch and were pleasantly surprised they could seat us immediately. We were seated upstairs near the bar area. Our friend explained the upstairs dining area doubles as the dance floor in the evenings. Our waiter quickly explained the brunch concept and took our drink orders. The drinks came out rather quickly. The Agua Fresca drinks were delicious!! We placed our orders and tried a little of everything. The food was delicious ! We sat at the bar and Jenny was our bartender she was very sweet & made us an amazing grilled pineapple pitcher!! All the pitchers here very reasonably priced & I mean who can beat $3 tacos & margarita pitchers!!! We didn't even know about the pitchers before arriving & that definitely made us happy once we looked at the drink menu!! Also to top off this great experience, they sent me & my friend an amazing churro platter with three different delicious sweet dipping sauces!! Now that was just a PLUS PLUS!!! The tables are kind of close together where we sat and my chair kept getting bumped when people walked past which was frustrating but got used to it. The drinks were great. I had a mojito and although they didn't have any flavored mojitos, it was tasty and very sweet. We had the queso which was tasty but hard to share since the cheese was hard to cut/scoop. I had the BBQ chicken salad which was delicious. The BBQ sauce was a little Smokey and sweet and went so well with the salad that I ended up getting more and using it as a dressing. The salad portion was huge and I took a lot of it home. The other dishes were well received but smaller portions. I really liked the pineapple in the tacos (sweet and juicy), but the meat itself was tough and dry. I had to ask for sour cream to add some moisture into the taco. Steak taco was better in that regard. I also wish the tacos would've been double wrapped, because the thin tortilla ripped under pressure from the fillings. Queso fundido was good but didn't come out piping hot, so it cooled a bit quickly and was hard to scoop after that. It was still delicious though. The cheese paired well with both tortillas and chips. I would order it again. Mojito: pricy and sweet. Service was inattentive as they closed up the restaurant area. It was difficult to flag down the waiter, even to collect the check. Environment: casual eatery with dimmed lighting. We could hear the music from upstairs as we ate. Despite the restaurant's shortcomings, the club upstairs was great. It's not exactly a true Latin club if you're looking for salsa/merengue/bachata, but it was a fun night out. The DJ played mainly Latin pop and reggaeton with American music rotated in every few songs. He repeated two songs within the hour, but there was a general good atmosphere.
