I decided to visit El Centro in Georgetown because it had good reviews and reasonable prices for happy hour. I thought that you did get a good deal for the price, my friend and I came and each got a frozen margarita, split some queso fundido, and we each got a small plate of happy hour nachos, and I got an extra taco. The price was about $50. So considering all that we got, not a bad deal! The food was pretty good for DC. I'm from Texas so I'm used to spicier, Tex mex, Mexican food, but it was still pretty tasty. Especially the queso fundido. It was so cheesy and came with side tortillas and salsa, it was very very tasty. The inside is pretty cute. Came here on a Sunday for Brunch. I didn't know that it was bottomless, and that everyone at the table had to do bottomless or a la carte. A few of us did the full bottomless (drinks +food) and some of us did just the bottomless food. The food was fine. It was fresh and diverse but not the best Mexican food. It's a great place to get your fill and enjoy a decent meal. Service was poor. They were very confused and delayed with everything most of the time. I didn't get a good view inside but they must have been extremely busy. However, with good planning and organization, this doesn't have to be a problem. Having that in mind, I was expecting some stellar food and service based on how popular this place was, but I was disappointed. Service was slow. I understand it was a busy Saturday night, but it was unacceptably slow. After being seated, we waited for a good 15 minutes or so before someone came to take our drinks orders. Then we were informed that there was only one person working the bar. The drinks didn't come out until after we got our appetizers. El Centro has good guacamole and that's probably the only good food to eat. I honestly would have been satisfied with eating 2 bowls of guacamole with chips because my entree was pretty lackluster. I ordered the Chesapeake enchiladas and it was bad. I had better enchiladas before elsewhere, but these tasted like they were poorly executed in terms of flavors and presentation. I came for the all you can eat and drink brunch. It was a good deal, price wise ($40!) but the food was a bit meh. The $40 gets you as many tacos, Mexican egg dishes, churros, and fried plantains as you want plus two hours of unlimited mimosas, Bloody Mary/Maria's, and margaritas. The fried plantains and huevos rancheros were my favorite items on the brunch menu. The tacos were a little bland, and no amount of hot sauce could bring them to life. The Bloody Maria, on the other hand, had a bit too much of a kick to it, to the point where I wasn't able to get one glass down. The service was a little slow and not the greatest, and we had to put in some orders more than once because it seemed like the staff forgot. I got here, walked in, saw that there was a coat rack, and then hung my coat up on the rack in the middle of the first floor room. There were no signs or any staff nearby, so I had no way of knowing that the rack sitting in the middle of the room was actually a coat check that required both a ticket and a three dollar fee to use. So when I went to leave about ten minutes later and retrieved my coat, the woman who worked at the coat check (who'd been nowhere to be found when I came in) waltzed up and accused me of stealing MY OWN COAT. Because I had no ticket. I had no ticket, BTW, because she hadn't been doing her job. If she had been doing her job, I wouldn't have been able to set my coat on the rack in the first place without her noticing. We went back and forth as I explained that this was, in fact, my actual coat. Instead of listening to my explanation, the lovely woman then decided to call security on me. (Again, this is still my own coat.) It took the security person suggesting I show them photos of me, in *my* coat, to convince her to let me leave. At no point before the security guard appeared did this woman seem prepared to entertain the idea that I had, in fact, brought my own coat in and hung it up without her noticing, because I guess this would have required her to admit she had screwed up her job. Don't do this to people. There needs to be signage around the coat rack and also, the people staffing it should actually (Oh, and then salt in the wound--I then got charged 3$ for the *privilege* of getting to set my own coat on hanger for ten minutes and then get accused of stealing it.) read more

The hostess were friendly, server was excellent and the manager came and did a table check multiple times to make sure we were doing okay. They were so kind and accommodating one of the women with me was pregnant and couldn't eat dairy and they made her dairy free items from their bottomless brunch menu without us even asking. The food was good and fresh and were the drinks we really enjoyed the margarita option on their bottomless menu, taste like they make their own margarita mix. Then to top it all of it was super affordable 37 bucks all you can eat food and 12 dollars bottomless drinks. Then to top it all off they didnt have all these extra random service fees like many other restaurants do in DC so we truly appreciated that as well. I had high expectations for El Centro and they came up a little underwhelming. I can only speak to the brunch experience so maybe Happy Hour or lunch/dinner is a better experience. They must've ran out of orange juice and had a surplus of cranberry juice because cranberry mimosas were the only option. Weird flex but OK; at least the kept the refills coming. Tried the mango margarita and the house margarita and both were close to undrinkable due to the overpowering amount of sour mix. Second course of Huevos Rancheros came to the table pretty chilly, which again was a weird flex. Pros: pretty great tacos and churros; pretty good vibe; servers kept the drinks coming Overall it was a meh experience. I wish the margaritas were a little less sour and a little more personalized to the restaurant. Also would like to see a better selection of mimosas instead of just cranberry. Coming from the west coast, I was a bit hesitant with trying Mexican food in the east, but trusting friends and family's recommendations of this place, I can fully say I am more than impressed. I was served by the wonderful Leo (shoutout to him!!!) and have had such a wonderful experience coming back ever since. The portions of this place are huge and most if not all of the dishes and drinks are full of flavor and keep you coming back for more. My personal favorite is the Chicken BBQ Chipotle Salad and the free chips and salsa! The salad was so filling and full of flavor from the bbq chicken and the chips were served warm and fresh--just how I like it. It's $35 per person, and you can order as many plates as you want. Each item we ordered came with 3 little servings since we had 3 people. Bottomless mimis and margs are +$9. My favorite dishes were the chipotle chicken waffle, potatoes, and the seafood enchilada. You definitely have to wait a little for the food since the place is booked, but it came out hot. I was a little disappointed by the churros though because they were rock hard I would give this place a 4/5, but we had to ask for the check like 3 times and waited 40+ minutes to pay. I understand that it's brunch in DC, so it can be busy, but we waited a liiiiittle too long. Heard about this great restaurant for dinner and brunch but had never been. It was AMAZING! We started off with the Traditional Guacamole with avocado, tomato, onion, cilantro, and chile serrano. It was mild which was perfect for me! I ordered the mix and match taco trio. I picked the Hanger Steak, which is crispy cheese, onion, cilantro, and salsa roja. I also ordered the Crispy Fried Shrimp, which is chipotle mexican slaw, grilled pineapple relish, and salsa verde. For my third taco I ordered the Tempura Fried Portobello, which is beer battered portobello mushrooms, mexican chipotle slaw, and salsa verde. All three were incredible! The ingredients were so fresh and flavorful! A nice trio and for $16! Also, comes with black beans and rice which was also great! Only complaint is that they were serving downstairs so we had to go upstairs. The restroom upstairs was out of order so we had to go downstairs to use the restroom. My dad and I both have bad knees so this was not an ideal situation but the hostess said we couldn't sit downstairs due to them not serving. Happy hour lasts until 7pm, which is later than most happy hours in DC, and they have great $5 drinks and snack deals. Plus you get unlimited chips and salsa with happy hour and dinner.
