Ordered for pick up and the food was pretty average. Really enjoyed the pork, the Alcapurria, and the chicken quesadilla. I've not had much PR food before, so with a few things, I didn't really know what to expect. I'm glad I tried the mofongo, the crackling pork, and plantains their way, but not sure they are something I'd order again. Most of the fried food from the combination I ordered wasn't very flavorful but wasn't too heavy either, except the chicken breast nuggets which had a great flavor to them. I was really psyched to get some Puerto Rican food. I've seen this place under the El, and wondered how it was. I had a friend tell me it was decent, so I went there one day. The girl at the bar was very sweet, but I just really couldn't get over the flipping around on the prices. I felt like I was right back in Puerto Rico having to scrutinize every bill to see what they slid on there. The receipt was not itemized, so I really came out unclear as to why my meal was 4 dollars more. The meal itself was pretty amateur. The cerdo frito was ok, I guess. The rest of the sampler, the quesadilla was soggy and amateur. The tostones were tostones, and I just expected so much more for close to $15. The fried chicken were like little rubber balls. The presentation was bad too. They through it in a styrofoam container that I would get at a papi store for $4. The food alone would be 3.5 stars, but the fact that they are still handing out menus with false (old,) prices is what got me. It would have been one thing if she handed me the menu, and let me know in advance that the pricing was off due to pandemic inflation, but they were very "islander" about it, and handed me a mystery bill with no explanation. I would first like to say that I have gotten delivery from Cantinflas at least three times and the first two times I have no complaints about. I always get the same thing, the chicken nachos and the chicken chimichanga. When I got delivery yesterday, my boyfriend got a bad stomach virus from the chimichangas. And there is another yelp review saying someone got sick from their food. I don't really have any advice about what's safe from Cantinflas because it just seems random, also doesn't really make sense that one of the chicken meals was bad but the other was fine. Regardless of my ambiguous grasp on which North Philly neighborhood Cantinflas actually resides in, there's one thing I'm confident of -- delicious food. Frankly, my knowledge of Puerto Rican food is completely blank. So while I'm no expert, I can profess that the sampler I had (which contained some fried pork, chicken and quesadilla) was quite good. The owner tells me that they're looking to revamp their drink selection and continue pushing the food as a reason to visit, which I'm looking forward to. Yelp directed me to this low key Puerto Rican restaurant/dive bar in my quest to find spanish food one night after 8pm. Let it be known: this is a dive bar that serves Puerto Rican food - most folks in this place are there because it's close to the el and serves cheap drinks. However, dive is almost a bit harsh of a description, as the place has clearly been renovated recently, sporting nice floors, crisp drywall, and tasteful lighting accents. Anyway, the food itself. I obviously got the mofonogo (with chicken), and found myself quite impressed - they've got it down. The plantain itself was perfectly subtle but loaded with flavor, while the chicken was moist and perfectly fried. Portions were generous, and the presentation was far above par for a bar. El Cantinflas is certainly an adventure - but unquestionably a worthwhile one. Side note: they apparently have $7 PBR buckets on the weekend. read more

Ok so I recently purchased the Groupon for two orders of tacos, two beers and an order of fried plantains. I had never been to or heard of this place before but when I looked up the location I noticed it was less than a mile from my boyfriend's house so thought it was worth the try. We get to the place and while it was in a not so nice looking area we were excited to try the food. Once we entered we noticed this place was more of a bar with only about 3 or 4 small tables against the wall that were occupied. Welp there went our dinner plans....so we asked if we could take out our food and the bartender was extremely nice and had no problem with this. We drank our beer while we waited, and had another as the food took a little longer than we would have expected. I got the chicken and the pork taco and my BF got the steak and the shrimp. I enjoyed my tacos with the hot sauce they included with our order but did feel that they were lacking as they only had meat, some potato (I think) and that's it. No lettuce, tomato, etc. The BF wasn't a fan of his tacos, the shrimp taco had those really small baby shrimps! The plantains were delish served with this mayo ketchup sauce (that's what I believe it was). All in all we were full and spent less than $20 including tip but we wont be going back. Food was really good. I got chicken nachos and a steak taco. Both really good. However, there were 2! toothpicks in my nachos. Covered in cheese and chicken and sour cream. I caught the first one with my eye and thought "ok, could happen..." but then I bit into the second one not noticing it. Extremely dangerous! I had the plátanos rellenos with steak filling which was very dry and tasteless with a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.. idk why. Also order a chicken quesadilla.. stuffed with a lot of cheese and limited meat, nothing else, no peppers -nada! And finally a chicken taco. The hot sauce helped it but again nothing but chicken wrapped in a flour tortilla. My take out came in paper plates and aluminum foil & my order total just under $30. I love this place! I was a regular until I moved to the West Coast, but the food is amazing and the drinks are cheap compared to most bars (even local ones). There are a lot of locals and that's because they treat you like family. Did I mention the food is amazing! They have a variety of Puerto Rican dishes and different kinds of Tacos. The bar tenders are all great and welcoming. I can't say enough good things about Cantinflas, I still visit every time I come back into town. read more
