Cool vibes going in, really liked their insta page and when $1 tacos popped up i knew i had to go. Salsa trio was great and love the chips but sadly that was the best part. I understand dollar tacos arnt supposed to blow you away but the tacos are wrong. The carne asada taco was not steak, it was more like a braised meat like barbacoa. If only this place was in every city... we got lucky enough to go on $1 taco night! Now the marg pitcher was more expensive and you do pay for chips and salsa (more of a chunky tomato) the tacos are fabulous! Its like an old dive bar but with hip music! We got to sit outside and the wait was not bad at all i think they told us 45 minutes and it ended up being 10. The staff are super kind and attentive. I got the mushroom and carnitas taco. Went for happy hour and the deals were pretty decent! We got the machos that were HUGE! So so yummy. However, we did not like the seitan quesadilla and could not even finish it. Our server was kind, but seemed to be overworked with the amount of tables she had. Always tip the carryout people, they work hard to handle lotsa orders and all the delivery drivers. It's street style tacos, very stripped down, very functional, and very good. Chicken tinga is damn good. Burritos are not Mission Style (if you know, you know). Bowls are not where it's at. The take on American food is great. The Gabacho taco (spelling) is an upjumped hard taco supreme and it punches the right buttons, have a few. Staff is quick, efficient, and it's a decent place to grab a good dinner with friends. Loco Pez is about a 5 min walk from our place so why wouldn't we check it out. We went for some light food and drinks. Got the Elote Wings and the nachos. The wings were unlike anything else. I like Elote but this was a whole new level. I will be going back solely for the wings. The nachos on the other hand were nothing special. They did the job but have had better nachos. Maybe too much cheese that it really didn't melt down nicely. The pollo tinga was what we added as a protein and it had really nice flavor. Love this place! Totally casual with great tunes and odd shows and/or movies on the TV. Nat is a great bartender who's ready to lend an ear and makes great cocktails! The Fairlane is my favorite with pineapple. My husband always gets a skinny. Great specials like the picture of the Queso Mac n cheese. Their wings and chicken sandwiches are to die for, and they typically have food specials starting at 5 PM every night. If you're not in the mood for gringo food, they have wonderful burritos, quesadillas, tacos, etc. The chips and pico are phenomenal, always made fresh! Don't forget to ask for their trio of salsa. The one thing you shouldn't bother asking for is a frozen margarita because they may throw you out, lol. They have a large bar area or you can sit in the actual restaurant itself. First of all the staff here is super nice! The hostess was understanding and helpful with my 81 year old mom who has trouble walking. Our server was really sweet and again didn't mind explain each taco to my mom. The food runner and other staff were also friendly. The food is also A-Mazing! We started with the chips, salsa and guacamole. The pico and guacamole were flavorful. The chips were nice and crispy. We pretty much devoured them! The tacos were sooo good. The tortillas are small have lots of filling. The carne asada was my fav! The Al pastor was also very good. I would've tried the Pez taco with tilapia but it only came with fried fish. Love this spot!! We are frequent flyers for dollar taco night! One thing we have learned is to get there early and put your name in. Every time we have gone, we have waited a minimum of 30 minutes. Especially now since the outdoor seating is closed to takes a while to get a table. The margs are fantastic! The only drink we have had that wasn't our favorite was the skinny marg although if you are looking for all tequila no mixer that's your drink. Chips and guacamole are a must! I have tried all the meat/seafood tacos after coming in multiple times. Al Pastor and Carnitas are by far my favorite! Chorizo is pretty good as well! Shrimp and Fish are okay. Carne Asada and Chicken are my least favorite. Some people I've gone with like them but they both just have a flavor profile that I don't love! The worst treatment from customer service in a long time. I am a senior citizen and came in alone. I was offered a seat outdoors due to lack of inside available seating. It was cold and windy. I agreed but when younger people also alone entered they took the outdoor seat away. I was asked to wait longer even when I said something. Let's just be straight up: there are much better taco places in Philly. There are much better taco places in Fishtown. Hell, there might be someone who lives on the same block as Loco Pez who might be willing to make you a taco, and it will probably be as good or better. This is not meant (I think) to be authentic Mexican food. Instead, it's kinda "food in the theme of Mexican." But it's cheesy and hearty and comforting, so it does the thing that takeout is supposed to do. And, even though it's a chain, it's still a real neighborhood restaurant. They really held this area down during the pandemic, and I appreciate them for it. read more
