    Carne Asada Taco
    Lauren P.

Awesome casual restaurant. Went for lunch and sat outside. staff was attentive and friendly, bringing us more chips (they are so good) without us asking. Ordered the taco salad and had a fair amount of alterations which they did correctly. Got drinks and tacos too.Nothing was too spicy, would've liked a little more heat, but all the flavors were great. Only note is the carne asada is actual carnitas. They should change the name of that

Cool vibes going in, really liked their insta page and when $1 tacos popped up i knew i had to go. Salsa trio was great and love the chips but sadly that was the best part. I understand dollar tacos arnt supposed to blow you away but the tacos are wrong. The carne asada taco was not steak, it was more like a braised meat like barbacoa. Same with the pastor, it was like pulled pork. Pretty disappointing. The street dog was too pungent, i think too much mustard or jalepenos but had strong potential as someone from Arizona who are known for the sonoran dog. I just wish they would label their tacos right

Went to today for an afternoon lunch. I've been craving tacos for a while and needed something to soak up last nights festivities *wink*. I'm a sucker for a burrito bowl so I got the camarones burrito bowl and a pollo Tinga taco. The taco was delish and I WILL return during the week for the dollar tacos. It was a good day for parking, no wait and very chill, service was good. I will be returning soon.

Great Fishtown bar and restaurant. I few steps from my home. Very busy place but they will always get you in. Awesome menu and great drinks. Can't beat the flash sale of dollar tacos. I Fishtown must!

This restaurant is a vibe!! I love the mashup between retro eatery / Mexican restaurant with quirky decor. The staff was friendly and the food was reasonably priced and very delicious. I ordered quesabirria and my husband ordered some tacos. I also had passion fruit mezcal marg that was out of this world!! My only complaint was the area we sat in smelled of sewage.

Came here on a Friday afternoon during the summer for some food and drinks. The bar has really upbeat and entertaining bartenders and a few patrons ready to start their weekend. The space was energizing. Upon entering it was dimly lit as any traditional bar ambiance. We sat at the bar and ordered traditional margaritas. They were tasty, if I remembered correctly they offered cool flavors as well, so my second drink was a fruit flavor. Ordered some tacos which were okay and with that I also started my weekend off right and absorbed the energized vibe from this establishment.

Dined in at Loco Pez with my friend, and we decided to eat at the bar. The staff were attentive and cool. Ordered a margarita and shared nachos with queso, which I liked. For my main, had the camarones (fried shrimp) tacos, which I thought were good.

Overall I like this place, but feel it's a bit overhyped for what it is. The food is good but not great IMO and it's usually pretty crowded so you'll have a little longer waits than some other neighborhood spots. Really yummy drinks though!

If only this place was in every city... we got lucky enough to go on $1 taco night! Now the marg pitcher was more expensive and you do pay for chips and salsa (more of a chunky tomato) the tacos are fabulous! Its like an old dive bar but with hip music! We got to sit outside and the wait was not bad at all i think they told us 45 minutes and it ended up being 10. The staff are super kind and attentive. I got the mushroom and carnitas taco. These were amazing! If you are a vegetarian get the mushroom!! Sooooo good. My husband and friend got 8 tacos each since they arent too big they were able to finish them all... cant say one was better than the other. This place is worth every $1 spent!!

First time visiting this little gem in the hood with outdoor seating that is perfect for summer days! The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food was great and a lot for the price of it. Ended the meal with Tres Leche which was delicious too. Overall great place and I will come back for their drink menu!

Omggg love this place! Finally found my favorite Mexican in the city. Elote wings are a MUST order. I've gotten the enchiladas twice and both times were excellent. My friends got the tacos and they said that the Al pastor was their favorite. Staff is always friendly and attentive.

Booths and bar seating is available as well as a patio on weekends. It is located in a sketchy area but a police car is stationed on the corner. I felt as safe as I do in other areas of Philly. Street parking is available within a few feet. The cocktails were very good with many different kinds of margs and other drinks. Beer and wine are also available. We were greeted as soon s we walked in by both the bartender and one of the owners. Our server brought water as soon as we sat down. She was attentive and helpful with explanations. The food here is authentic! Several different kinds of guacamole are available. We chose the one with pomegranate. It added a nice crunch and flavor. One with grasshopper was available. lol that was a no for me! The trio of empanadas were delicious. We shared a carnitas taco platter and branzino platter. The tacos were tasty. The branzino was cooked nicely with good flavor. The rice and beans and Brussels spouts and mushrooms were all delicious. I'll definitely be back!

The meat in the tacos was so dry that it was hard to chew and swallow. Some of the pieces were cooked to a crisp. No amount of salsa could make them better. I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the tacos, but trust me me I get no pleasure from leaving a bad review for this place; I am not lying or exaggerating. I thought they were going to be one of our local gems. I choked down a half a taco, gave the rest to my husband and he couldn't eat them either. The churros actually had raw batter in the middle and the outside was rubbery and hard at the same time. You could barely bite through it. I'm a cook and I know that that is about keeping the oil at an even temperature to get the inside done and not overcook the outside. Someone in the kitchen did not know what they were doing. The thing is, I have had their food before and it was pretty good. I don't know if there is a new chef or what happened, but I can't trust them after this experience.

Honestly El Rey is great!…read more As a Los Angeles native, Mexican food is always a "not as good as California" affair, and with that bar, it's hard to find anything that holds a candle. But El Rey is good in its own right, taking familiar foods and flavors, with a bit of a fancier twist, and making a good meal that I love to eat and enjoy! Seating and service here is friendly and prompt. Even when it's pretty loud and seems packed, there are always a handful of open tables available, where we've usually been able to be seated almost immediately. Such was the case this evening. We were on a bit of a time crunch so we ordered immediately and our food came out so fast that the waiter for our table was surprised as the food beat him with our napkins to the table. We ordered the Tuna Tostada and the Yucatan Spiced Chicken Fajitas. Both were amazing! Good thing for our tight timeline, the food was gone as fast as it came. The waiter helpfully recommend the house hot sauce, which was certainly spicy and a good compliment on our fajitas. Overall, a great place to dine for Mexican-inspired! Laying aside my California bias, El Rey is a fun time every time we come.

Perfectly seasoned, tender, flavorful -- the kind of bite that makes you close your eyes for a second. They were so good I came back two days later just for them. That's not a craving... that's infatuation. - The Chayote Salad completely surprised me. Fresh, bright, and paired with their homemade hot sauce? My palate was awakened. I even brought it home (with dressing and hot sauce on the side) and it still hit! Speaking of heat -- if you love spicy food, ASK for their homemade hot sauce. It's bold, fiery, and addictive. I genuinely want a bottle for home. Service? 10/10. From the manager to the hosts to the bartender -- everyone was kind, attentive, and patient. There were booths, tables and bar seating available with Wonder Years playing on a few TVs with warm lighting and the incandescent Christmas lights that are reminiscent of Grandma's house (bonus points for nostalgia!) I requested a booth and she promptly sat me. She brought me water, menus and explained the specials to me. As I perused the menu, I was overwhelmed with the options available to me. I ultimately landed on one of the dinner specials (Cabernet braised brisket with a side of carrots & buttery mashed potatoes), chips & salsa and a Paloma. Chips landed first and while both salsas were fresh, I still felt the need to add salt. (Everyone's palate is different) Food & drink arrived simultaneously. Paloma was made strong but tasted more like a classic margarita as opposed to the tang of grapefruit that comes with a Paloma. Still good! The food was essentially cold & looked like it had been sitting for awhile being served to me but all the flavors were there. The brisket fell apart, I didn't even need a knife to cut it.
