French onion soup this, French onion soup that. I've heard about this soup for years, and while I've been to the Vous a number of times, I never had the soup until now..... and now I just feel foolish. This was hands down the best French onion I've ever had. The top was so crispy but not too much that you can't get through it. The broth was incredibly flavorful and wasn't boiling when it came out. Beyond the soup we got an order of mozz sticks which were good, standard stick. It's open seating with plenty of tables and a large bar. They have a a variety of draft and bottled drinks a well as some fun stuff like a mystery shot, spiked cherries and Jell-O shots. Our sever was attentive and friendly, without being too overbearing. Went to grab a quick bite to eat. Our flight got in late on a Monday and options were slim and after traveling for two days straight to get out of DC really didn't feel like dressing up and wanted a chill place to go. Place had a good crowd with the FIFA games going on in Philly with many bars and restaurants hosting watch parties. Service was OK but nothing spectacular. The food was not my cup of tea and probably would have been amazing after a night of drinking. They offered many items that you would find at a diner which is what was appealing to us. Tip... Italian doesn't mean italian sliced sandwich bread but a hoagie roll. Found that out when I order my sandwich on italian bread. This was not high on my lists of places I would want to go back to. We were downtown and hotel down the road (DoubleTree security) highly recommended this place for dinner. The food and atmosphere were phenomenal. We had cheese fries with gravy, a cheesesteak and chix cheesesteak for food. Prices were average (for downtown) but portions were very large. The only downside was the server. She really didn't pay much attention to us and wasn't very friendly. Maybe it was just a bad night but everything else was perfect! read more

The food and drinks were really fairly priced, definitely the sell of this center city bar. I also thought that generally, the food was good! The cheez fries were more plasticky than I'd like, and the sandwiches were generally greasy. I don't know if I would say the food was fresh, but it was served quickly. Who knew - an actual real bar (as opposed to an upscale restaurant / tavern hybrid posing as a bar) on Locust Street right in the middle of Center City. We tried this place on a whim after the intended lunch spot was full. They offer a surprisingly diverse lunch menu. Both my wife's turkey sandwich and my Monte cristo were very good and represented good value for the price. There is also a wide selection of beer available. I didn't really focus on the cocktails. Note to native Chicagoans: This place serves Jepsen's Malort, and may be the only establishment in the City of Philadelphia that does so. To be clear, this is not a Chicago sports fan bar. Service was prompt and very friendly. Price for two sandwiches (+chips), 1 iced tea, 1 Blue Moon and 1 shot of Malort was $41.57 - very reasonable given the location. read more

I always have a good experience at Locust Rendezvous. The food is priced well and the French Onion Soup a few of my other faves are the patty melt and BLT. Service is decent, but it's typically only one waitress and one bartender. There are plenty of TVs if you like to watch games. My friends and family like to frequent before our shows at the Academy of Music. Typical pub food with a laid back ambiance. Probably not great for large groups since the seating is limited. My only complaint is they have Pepsi rather than Coke, but I don't eliminate stars for that :) read more

Came here for some quick bites and to try their French onion soup. Notable apps for me were the Spanish fries, fried cheese balls, and pierogis. The Spanish fries were crispy, and I liked the green salsa. The pierogis were probably my favorite app there. The French onion soup was ok. Broth was good, but my soup had some crunchy onions in it (although none of my other friends' soups did). I was here last weekend and had a very nice lunch. Bartender was very friendly as were the other folks dining. Total old school cheers vibes here. Food was very good too. I started with the French onion soup which was very filling. My buddy and I came back later on in the night for some wings which were excellent!! My only gripe was the service at night. It was before midnight - decent crowd but nothing overwhelming. Our waitress obviously did not want to be working as she was extremely rude and flat out lazy. Still never got the waters we asked for 3 times. I was about to ask her if she was having a bad night because it was brutal. I will return when I'm back in town because the food and atmosphere were both very good, as was the friendly service I received earlier in the day. After my first review I returned TWICE during my stay in Philadelphia. Out west, Philly has a reputation of not exactly being friendly to outsiders. This bar, by itself, destroys that unfair reputation. The bartenders, looking at you Danielle, were great ambassadors for not only the business but the city itself. I first went to Locust Rendezvous around 20 years ago. My memory of it was as a mediocre dive bar. My recent visits to "The Vous" have shown me that it is much more than that now. It's a great bar that you can count on for good drinks, fast service, and consistently good food. It doesn't matter how packed the place is. You can count on those three things. With TVs from wall to wall, any sporting event you want to watch will be on one of the TVs. My go-to food has become the turkey reuben. It's a delicious top-tier sandwich in a city full of great sandwiches. My go-to drink is the pomegranate mule, a great take on the moscow mule. I've tried a handful of items from the menu at this point, and everything is good. You can't beat the prices there either. "The Vous" has earned a regular spot in my bar rotation. read more

My wine glass had lipstick on it and I had to send it back. The Chardonnay was good, as expected and drinks after that were decent. The nachos were ok but could have made them at home. I usually don't write restaurant/bar reviews, but after a few very enjoyable experiences at Locust Rendezvous, I felt the need to offer a token of appreciation to this quaint and charming hole-in-the-wall in Center-City. Originally from New Orleans, when I work out of town and feel homesick, I find myself searching for a chilled out spot with an easy-going atmosphere and good food that's free of pretentious people. The Vous is the way. In my most recent visit, Danielle was working behind the bar and even with a full bar, the service and hospitality she delivered was nothing short of masterful. She assured me that French Onion soup would knock my socks off and boy was she right! My only complaint about the F.O. Soup is that it has probably ruined all of the rest of the world's French onion soups for me for the rest of my life. I'm not sure if anything else will ever compare - I will forever be chasing that dragon. After my soup, I had the daily salad special (steak and blue cheese). It was also very delicious and enough food to bring home for lunch the next day. Honestly, I should've started with the salad because I was still flabbergasted from my French Onion experience - it truly was the climax of my night. Throughout my adventures at the Vous, I've received nothing but great food and exceptional service. What more can you ask for? I highly recommend the French Onion soup and Daneille as a server. My man and I don't eat meat, they have a veggie grinder that's SO good! We split one but I could have had a whole one by myself it was so tasty, hot, well seasoned, just delicious. The fries, ugh!!! Yummy! I think they are coated with something cause they are CRISP! We like craft beer and IPA's in particular- they have a small but tight list. I will be honest the food is actually very good here and The first server I had was very nice after I finished my meal I decided to move to the bar and I ended up sitting next to a Patreon. First off the bartender wasn't as nice as the server and the Patreon ruined the entire atmosphere at first I thought it was a good conversation and then ended up being insulted. You can get what looks like banging french onion soup, a delicious looking reuben, triple or quadruple fried french fries as another reviewer puts it, basically quintessential bar food. I went with the chicken parm sandwich that came with chips. Sandwich was decent, enjoyed the bread, no major complaints but I would try a different item on the next stop. Love how they serve maraschino cherries soaked in 100 proof moonshine for $1. I had one and fully endorse you spend the buck for the experience. My favorite bar in philly!! I love taking ppl here. The drinks are good, no frills and simple, and there is such a charm to the entire place. Love the mules and the "cherry bombs" are so fun, a personal fav. Finally I am getting around to writing a review for Locust Rendezvous (or 'The Vous' as it is called). This warm and popular pub is directly in the heart of Philadelphia's main theatre and cultural district. The opera house is practically across the street and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is only one block away as are numerous other theatres. It is awesome that such a friendly and accessible spot exists in the theatre district. And it's not very expensive either. I recently met up with two friends here before an orchestra concert. The meal perfectly hot the spot. I started with a delicious crock of French onion soup gratinée. Their well-known grilled Reuben sandwich was my next choice - served with waffle fires. Totally tasty. A Brewdog Elvis Juice IPA was the liquid accompaniment. My friends likes their food as well which included a Caribbean clam chowder and a shrimp tortellini. A local Yuengling Hershey Chocolate porter beer was also a big hit. Locust Rendezvous has def found a niche in the theatre district of Center City Philadelphia. I have no doubt, I will be grabbing some more pre- or post-theatre drinks & grub here in the future. read more

Caught a play at the Academy of Music and wanted to eat nearby. The area has a lot of overpriced eateries so we decided on Locust Rendezvous because it looked unpretentious. Unfortunately that was all it had going for it. The server was not so much attentive as weirdly insistent. She came by for drink orders while my wife was in the rest room so I asked her to come back. Then as soon as my wife stepped back she was back for the order. We were stressed out before we even sat down. However when they got my wife the wrong drink it sat there for longer than expected. So strange. She ordered nachos, I went for the open face turkey sandwich. Mine was not great but was adequate and not too price ($11.50) however the nachos were deemed "the worst nachos" my wife ever had. They were topped with lettuce, which was odd, and what tasted like an off-brand cheese whiz. Like, how hard would it have been to melt some shredded actual cheese on the thing? We got a to-go cheesesteak for my son who said it was terrible, mostly because they used a ton of that same foul cheese sauce. We wound up spending $80 with a tip which I guess is still somewhat cheap for that area but I don't think we will be back. read more

Anybody complaining about this place is out of their minds. This is a GREAT dive bar. Food was good - ordered a cheesesteak, it was solid, good sized, came out fast, chips on the side. Drinks were inexpensive and plenty of options. The moonshine soaked cherries were a cool touch. And the prices are more than reasonable. Good service, too. Even the ambience - not crazy loud or so dark I'm running into things. Came from out of town and I'll definitely be back. This is now my place in Philly. If you are looking for a no frills/dive bar, this is definitely the place to go. There are always a ton of drinks to choose from as well as great specials. The servers and bartenders have always been super friendly and aren't the type to ignore anyone at the bar. It's a great place for an after-work drink/happy hour, to watch the game, or for last call.
