It was my 5 STAR 'go to' spot to have vegan tacos delivered. The food was great. However, last week my delivery of vegan tacos had meat mixed in it!! I thought maybe it was just an accident. Tonight, I had the vegan tacos delivered, another chunk of meat mixed in!! Needless to say. I can't deal with cross contamination of food. Vegan/vegetarian food needs a separate prep area. I don't think I'm willing to chance it again which is a shame since the delivery is the quickest around and food arrives hot and delish. Unfortunate. I couldn't reach anyone via phone or online social media to inform them as a courtesy. Maybe they will see this and get control of the kitchen. read more

Neighborhood go-to in Regent Square. The food is great and the ambiance is so perfect!

If you've ever had good Mexican food, you'd know this place absolutely is not that. The variety of the menu and the nice staff really had me going...but every time I've had food from there-- for take out, delivery, even sit- down- it has been horribly tasteless and dry and void of any good qualities. I wish they would step up, it's been like this for years. Save your money and go down the street to Taco Bell, at least they have flavor in their stuff!! read more

The tacos are amazing. The decor is perfect. I have yet to find a Mexican or taco place in Western Pennsylvania thats even close. One *small* complaint. They play latin music in the kitchen and latin music in the dining area: but it's two *different* sets of music. I don't get it. Just sync the music. Otherwise, this place is perfect. read more

I always have good service. Orders have never been messed up. Also. Prickly pear pelligrino. Helloooo. Anyway, food is fine/good depending. I love the vegan Chile relleno burrito, that's my go to. read more

I was disappointed by my El Burro tacos. I had the carne asada and chorizo tacos. They were dry, bland, and reminiscent of Taco Bell's tacos. The taco, generally speaking, has so much potential. I think taco's should have exciting and interesting flavors, enjoyable textures, and leave you wanting more. El Burro's tacos were void of everything I desire in a taco. read more

I have to preface this review by saying that I hate tomatoes. I ordered a chicken burrito and was pretty bummed out when I cut into it and found that the entire thing was stuffed with tiny pieces of tomato, along with rice and some chicken that smelled a bit like cat food. I've eaten many burritos in my life but never had one with chopped tomatoes inside it before. I tried unrolling the burrito and picking them out, but it it was basically a sad experience for me. read more

Edit: My husband and I were given a second chance to be wowed by El Burro and we were not disappointed! I got a carne asada burrito and my husband took another crack at the California burrito. I added refried beans and sour cream to a burrito that comes with: carne asada, pico de Gallo, and guacamole. We were way more satisfied by our experience this time. Our order was correct, all the ingredients were tasting fresh, and the service was prompt. I'm changing my initial star review to reflect what was an off-day and not a general reflection of the restaurant. The only reason I'm not changing to 5 stars is that there are some ingredients I feel should come in a burrito by default: beans, rice, animal protein of choice, salsas. To each their own, but I would rather not have to pay extra for burrito basics. Regardless, our experience with El Burro was changed in a positive way and I can see us coming back when another burrito craving strikes. El Burro is one of the only local, non-chain, places open later into the evening on Sunday- which is why we chose it. My husband and I ordered the same thing: California burritos. We asked for one with sour cream and for one with cheese. My husband ordered the queso fundido, which is apparently not on the menu. It took a half hour, at least, to make two of the same burrito. The food was served hot but I've never been to a taqueria where making two burritos takes thirty minutes. The food itself was the epitome of meh. The burritos were basically a wall of dry carne asada. I've never had a dry burrito before. It's not a pleasant experience. Normally I'd be thrilled at the amount of meat stuffed into my burrito but is it really a blessing if you're literally choking your food down? My burrito didn't have any sour cream on it, although I'm certain we were charged eighty cents for it still. The queso fundido was swimming in oil and somehow managed to be bland even though there was chorizo in it and it was made out of... melted cheese. I have no idea what kind of cheese it was. We tried three times to call the restaurant for a partial refund and no one picked up the phone so I guess this is a lesson learned and we will absolutely not be returning t read more

It breaks my heart to give El Burro 2 stars, it would be 0 if it weren't for the kind girl behind the register running food and orders. I was beyond excited to get vegan tacos, after all there was a separate vegan/vegetarian menu. I was eating my second vegan taco, meat rolled out of my taco on top of some sweet potato. It was very evident that the meat was mixed in and cooked with the sweet potato. The kitchen needs to reevaluate their cross contamination practices to avoiding serving their vegan customers meat. read more

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat before a moonlight hike at Frick Park. Friends said what a great brunch they had here once so we thought dining here would be a good experience. The only good parts were the back outside patio and the tortilla chips. The man at the counter was not very friendly or welcoming. It was our first time dining there and the menu was confusing. The place was almost empty and there was nobody in line behind us, yet he was hurried to get our order thru. My son ordered a burrito with queso yet it came with no queso. When I asked the counter man about it he blew me off saying the queso was inside the burrito but it wasn't. I approached him again and he annoyingly had the server bring a side of queso. My beef taco was very small, dry, lacked flavor, and here you have to pay extra for everything, even a super tiny ramekin of guacamole. Disappointing dining and wouldn't return. read more

El Burro - Dry beef taco - Vegan Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

My favorite thing about El Burro is the owner. Both of the locations are comfortable and exactly what you want out of a taqueria. They also elevate the neighborhoods they are in just by adding culture. What pains me is the fact that they just aren't consistent enough. The joy of going to taquerias like Doce or Condado is that I have my favorites and I can get them every time. El burro has it's positives, homemade hot sauces, proper taqueria prices and fresh chips. The negatives are the taco you order on Wednesday may be less delicious on Friday. The delicious well seasoned chorizo at one location may be dry and under-seasoned at the other. Other than that, the staff at both locations are great, the owner is great and committed and the food is worth it if you are close by and craving mexican food. read more

El Burro is a nice place to go for a sit down bite or to take out. They offer a variety of options for tacos and burritos, and cater to both vegetarians and vegans. This was something that really intrigued us as we are vegetarians and also enjoy trying vegan foods as well. The space is not terribly large and is set up as more of a "bistro". You place your order at the counter and they will call your name when it is ready. We have had a couple different burritos and tacos, but what really sticks with us is the chips and salsa. The salsa is amazing and has a smokey flavor to it. The chips are homemade and taste great. The meals themselves were good, however I always have to add extra salsa or hot sauce to amp up the flavor a bit. The price can be a little high when you add on extras, but it's worth a try! Somewhere we will definitely return to over again. read more

Good food, nice staff, convenient location. Margaritas to go were also very good. Recommend.

Quaint casual little taco spot. The service was excellent, you place your order at the counter and a friendly girl brings you your food. They have indoor/outdoor seating and take out too. I had the special taco of the day portobello mushrooms. Very flavorful. I also tried their most popular steak taco. You can choose hard or soft shell tacos. There are many taco options for vegetarian and meat eaters. Also shrimp and Mahi Mahi. Great little gem. read more

Great homemade chip and salsa. All scratch everything. Consistently good. Could use a few more beverage options.

See edit below... 1st trip review.... Definitely will come back. Perfect for the area and veg friendly. Love the refried beans and hot sauces. Edit 7.12.17: taking this down to 3 stars, as I currently rub my aching belly. Last night, we returned to El Burro. This time, the experience was a bit off. I enthusiasticly ordered a taco with veg chorizo, but was it really? Honestly, it's my mistake not to have asked beforehand, or after, what exactly was the "veg chorizo" in the taco, but it certainly wasn't resemblent of the sausage-like consistency I thought it would be. (Wish I would've taken a picture.) It was crumbly and dry. Dry? . Seriously, it was orange cereal with white flecks. Weird. The refried beans, which were wonderful last time, were pasty and tasteless. I also ordered a bean, cheese, and rice burrito. The size was great! I was sure hungry. However, the distribution on cheese, beans and rice, not so hot. Lastly, as mentioned previously, my belly. Last night my family all had the bubble guts, and we're still dealing with them this morning. Mind you, we're all vegetarian, and beans are a regular part of our diet. Therefore, it can't just be that as the reason. The bright side - amazing Guac and chips. I would stop by there solely to grab those as a snack. Very tasty. Overall, a disappointing 2nd experience. read more

El Burro is a few blocks from my house and I've gotten take out before. I went the other night to enjoy the back deck. It was nice out and had no issues. I had been warned that the garbage from otter businesses nearby sometimes create an odor but I didn't notice. I ordered a margarita which is premade and wasn't very good. I had the shrimp tacos which were ok. They do charge a lot IMO for guacamole as a side or a dip. read more

Pretty good burritos. A solid place to go if you want drunk food. P.s. Ordered a burrito, went to pick it up, when I wen to pay the younger boy said "all you have to do is sign," meanwhile he had already selected a 30% tip on the I-pad. read more

Stopped here for lunch on our road trip towards Illinois. This is the worst vegan/ vegetarian mexican food in the Tri-state area. There was no seasoning, not even salt and the veggie tacos were barely boiled. The salsa was tasteless. I regret not choosing Chipotle over this place to eat lunch. read more

I think I found my slice of Austin in Pittsburgh finally! No frill tacos - not tacos loaded with rice and beans (such a gringo mistake) but simple street tacos I'm used to eating from Austin. The carnitas and carne asada were both legit. Served on soft corn tortillas with three types of salsa. That's another of my pet peeves with Pittsburgh taco places is there's not enough good salsa or it's bland. The salsa here was pretty good especially the hot and the mild ones. Service was quick and efficient, they did have drinks which I didn't try. Will definitely be back for my taco fix here. read more

I'll preface this review by saying that the young lady at the counter who took my order was very pleasant and helpful. That being said, my girlfriend and I were both excited to see a Mexican spot open up so close to home. We placed an order for about $45 worth of food for a large dinner to go. Five tacos, loaded nachos and a burrito for me. Carne Asada on everything of mine. The nachos were definitely not a $10 portion. The meat was just a small pile of flavorless, burnt pebbles, and the guacamole was quite brown. The chips tasted good, but this fact didn't come close to making up for the negatives. My tacos had the same hard, burned steak, and despite the shells being good, they were, as a whole, pretty bad. Nothing like the glorious, delicious tacos I'm used to getting from Las Palmas. My girlfriend got a different variety of meat, but she was underwhelmed as well. The biggest letdown was my burrito, which also contained the "steak". As a whole, the burrito was tiny, flavorless, and extremely disappointing. I am not exaggerating when I say that Taco Bell has better burritos. For the price, I could get something exponentially better from Mad Mex, Steel Cactus, or even Chipotle. Maybe the kitchen staff was having an off night, but seriously... for $45, I expected something appetizing and filling. I got neither. As disappointing as it is to pass on a restaurant within easy walking distance (and we both love Mexican), this was really bad. Bad enough for us to not give the place a second chance. read more

Excellent and fresh ingredients. not greasy at all. I had the pollo burrito with refried beans added. I would absolutely return and order again. fresh!fresh! back patio is awesome too read more

I'm always nervous when at the dinner rush, I walk into an empty restaurant, however El Burro didn't disappoint. The street tacos were tasty, chips were good, salsa was a little....strange, but eh, the chips were good. We had fries, rice, and refried beans. The beans were awesome, rice was...rice, and the fries were the surprising high point of dinner. All in all a solid 3.5 stars (the .5 goes for the sweet potato cauliflower taco...it was...different! But in a good way). Will definitely come back and write an update! read more

El Burro has a lot of potential and I'll be back after they iron things out. The shredded beef hard taco was one of the best tacos I have ever had. Chorizo was okay, but a little strangely sweet. Street tacos looked excellent, but I didn't get a chance to try them. Guac was good, but "small" was REALLY small (like mini condiment-size) for the price. The salsa was gross. It had a distinct and unusual flavor that I've never experienced before and never want to experience again (almost like an added artificial flavor--not fresh). However, the homemade tortilla chips were perfectly crisp and salty. For four tacos, chips and salsa, small guac, and two drinks, we paid about $30. The setup felt a little like a late-night college post-bar spot, so the prices seemed a little high considering that. Service was great (fast and friendly). read more

Worst Mexican food I've ever had. I should have known it wasn't authentic when I saw fries on the menu. That was my first red flag but I ignored it. Literally no seasoning other than salt could have been used. The fries were burnt, absolutely no flavor no spice the freaking jalapeños tasted like absolutely nothing. Like not even a tiny bit spicy. I have never in my life had nasty Mexican food and I've eaten at taco trucks with three item menus. Whoever owns this restaurant should just convert it to an American pub please stop disgracing these people's culture. I'm not even Hispanic and I'm offended for them. read more

Second time eating here. Have only gotten the California Burrito and the chips and salsa. Not disappointed by any means. The meat is good, the sizes are on par, and their fresh chips are AMAZING! I love their salsa with the chips, you can taste the cilantro, the salsa has a cool and almost fruity aftertaste. I see the reviews here complaining about portion size and meat quality and I'm a bit taken aback by that. It's a small, locally owned and relatively new business, especially to Regent Square. I have ZERO complaints. And my picky, early teenage daughter is a fan, also. I say GOOD JOB El Burro. The mild and hot sauce are tremendously good. My boyfriend loves the hot, especially on the burrito and I love the mild. read more

Fantastic!!!!! The best tacos and queso ever. Amazing flavors. So yummy! Just go!

My boyfriend and I tried the street tacos here a few weeks ago and were left feeling underwhelmed. The restaurant space is fun, and the service was good, but the tacos were only okay. I don't think we'll be back anytime soon. I tried the shredded chicken and the carnitas street tacos ($3.50 each), and thought both meats were bland and under-seasoned. The house-made hot sauces were really good, but everything else was a bit of a let down. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile but wasn't sure what to expect. It's BYOB which is always nice. The inside is very small, dark, with some tables and booths and they have maybe 5 or so tables outside to sit at. I ordered the taco Tuesday special, which was two tacos with rice and beans. It was filling and seemed like fine quality. But it was nothing special and just felt like pretty dry plain tacos. We shared chips and guac which was the beat part of the meal. Maybe if I'm looking for an outdoor seating BYOB place to share an app on a nice day it would be worth hanging out outside at one of their tables. But the atmosphere inside and the level of food probably won't have me rushing back anytime soon. read more

Ordered from postmates finally a taco place that isn't Taco Bell. Very good will definitely order from them again.

As a vegetarian, it's tough finding places that offer different options, so I was pleased to see this place served vegan chorizo. First of all, the ambiance is depressing. It's too open and cold and it was awkwardly quiet when we walked in, which seemed weird for a Friday night. I ordered the vegan chorizo burrito and it was disappointing. It was nothing but dry vegan chorizo and rice, with a literal spoonful of salsa and cilantro. And there was no cheese. None. Not even vegan cheese, which was on the menu. And the seitan was weirdly sweet. The potato soft taco I ordered was even worse - it was literally boiled, unseasoned potato cubes on a corn tortilla. If any other fixings were added, I couldn't taste them. I was also really dismayed when we ordered salsa and guacamole and the server gave us two plastic containers and plastic baggies full of greasy chips. All that plastic is ridiculously wasteful and unnecessary. You seriously couldn't have reusable containers for customers eating in? Do you not have the facilities or the time to wash them? Why even open if that's the case? This place is tacky and flavorless and I won't be returning. read more

This little place has awesome chips, guacamole, street tacos and burritos. Worth the trip to the 'Burgh!

El Burro on Braddock has been tried and tried by not only the locals but from visitors, friends of, and passerby's alike. The place is dead and there's a reason. Alongside all of the reviews below - i've gone solo as well as with a group. All experiences have been sub-par and it's a direct reflection on the staff at the front and of course the kitchen. It starts with the food not being of quality to entice more people to come. This disruption of poor taste is left with too many and inevitably word of mouth reigns over the region leading to a dim-lit "open" sign at the front and a dim personality in those that greet you at the register. In closing: I'm excited for the future and it's inevitable growth and change that will 100% not include El Burro's establishment in Regent Square. read more

I always love eating here. The food is really yummy, reasonably priced and the service is amazing. There is never a long wait for food even when the dining room is full. The cheese on the quesadillas is to die for and I can't eat here without getting a shredded chicken taco street style. I highly recommend coming here- not only do they serve alcohol but they have specials too! It's totally amazing. read more

Good service, but food was disappointing. I ordered a burrito and it was mostly rice. No beans, salsa, etc. Very low on flavor and components. Tacos were even more disappointing. Shells were super hard and flavorless, and the filling was dry, lacking, cheese, salsa, and other things that typically go with a taco. The chips and salsa were actually decent. Too bad, because the patio is a pleasant place to dine. read more
