My wife got the verde garbage burrito and she really like it also. This place is awesome. My boyfriend has been going to the Colton location since he was a kid. This one is located off of Colton Street in Redlands, conveniently located bwteen our house and my work. Anyway, their burritos are delicious! Their salsa is perfect and yummy! They are known for their garbage burritos and the size of every burrito is enough for two people. Burritos are delicious! Especially, the Chile Colorado burrito. The homemade tortillas are the best and they are very generous with the size of the burritos. The tortillas remind me of Xochimilco Restaurant (Big X) in Stockton. Even the rice and whole beans are tasty and not from a can. The red salsa has a little kick to it. Okay, you want really hot hot sauce, or Fresh Mex, or chunky avocado-y guacamole with cilantro and chunks of tomato in it, go somewhere else. Please. But home is home. The tortillas on the burritos are like Linus' security blanket. Been coming here since starting at Johnston College/UofR in 1979. This is where we'd go when we didn't go to Donut Hut #5. The outdoor tables aren't the rickety splintery wood any more, the paint's been refreshed, the cactus has grown, but other than that it's the same now as then, and I love it for that. Best Mexican food in Redlands (Better than Cucas) simply because their tortillas are INCREDIBLE. I accidentally ordered a rice and cheese burrito, and when I asked for chili verde pork after I got it, they added it in for free (the flavor was excellent and the meat was very nicely done). In my garbage burrito. That's right. I will blaspheme for burritos. The tortilla and the beans. That's what it's all about. The service is curt and slow. They won't even give me a sticker ("We Cook Like a Mother!")! [UPDATE: on my 4.5.2007 visit over Passover I made sure to tip while she was looking then I asked for a sticker. She said the owner hasn't printed any new ones in years. Damn! Also, the burritos came huge and fast! Also, the Garbage is $3.40 and the Special is $3.05!] The beans: refried. Oh yeah. El Burrito has the advantage in terms of: * Tortillas - El Burrito's are hand-made, and perhaps the best I've had in my life * Authenticity - If you picked up El Burrito and plopped it down in a sleepy village in Mexico, it'd look completely in-place. * People Watching - It's fantastic here. Cuca's (for the sake of this review, I'm talking about the Loma Linda location) has the advantage in terms of: * Salsa - Cucas is better than El Burrito's. * Price - On Tuesdays, bean & cheese burritos are $2. Which means that you can, for example, stuff your entire family with delicious burritos for a 10-spot. * Air Conditioning - While El Burrito is authentic, it's only seating is outside - and Cuca's has a nice air-conditioned building. Went here a few days ago. It's literally a shack between an animal hospital and a car dealership. There's no inside, and seating outside is limited. That's the only reason this wasn't a 5-star review. The food? Amazing. Simple, but great at what they do. The hand-made tortillas were actually hand-made, which sets it apart from about a thousand other "authentic" places. I had the garbage beef burrito, it was delicious. The red sauce wasn't spicy at all (hot sauce should be hot, dammit), but man, the flavor. So good. I will definitely return. read more

Tried El Burrito while on my weekend getaway and wasn't as good as some people seem to be writing. I ordered the chicken taco with guacamole & a enchilada with side of rice. My boyfriend got the garbage burrito. chicken taco - HORRIBLE all of the ingredients inside were blended up together and rolled in "supposedly" homemade tortilla, I couldn't finish it. Guacamole to me is suppose to be chunky with real tomatoes instead it was a very light green, creamy sour cream type guacamole. They were generous with the guac serving cause I'm sure they want to just get rid of it. Enchilada (cheese only) - pretty much a tortilla rolled with shredded cheddar cheese that seemed from the grocery store, laid on some red sauce with more shredded cheese on top. Wasn't appetizing but I was hungry. Rice was eh, nothing special to it, FORSURE didn't taste like my mommas. Garbage burrito, he told me it's called garbage for a reason. The tortilla was probably the only decent thing about this, and the inside didn't taste fresh and the "hot sauce" was a water down mild tomatoes. El pollo loco has better sauce and food then this place. Maybe cause I'm from the LA area my "mexican" taco/burrito joint is waaaaaay more fresh then this, I hate to complain but this place left a bad taste in my mouth, sorry redlands people you have to come to LA to get some REAL good tasty mexican food, if this is what you consider good I feel bad for your taste buds. read more

Been coming here since I was a kid. Now my kids love this place. Best homemade tortillas. My favorite burrito is the chili verde, rice, cheese and guacamole. Their guacamole is not the traditional guacamole but some other version with maybe sour cream in it. It's delicious. The rolled chicken tacos are awesome too. read more

Ok, giving a rare 2 here. Here's why. The place is packed. Always a lineup. Any time of day. I don't understand why. Maybe because there is a large to-go customer base and they are fast. The food kinda sucks. The burritos are all tortilla. Very little filling. What filling there is, is bland. Rice is bland. Beans are like slop. Guacamole is a joke. This place is a true gem in Redlands. The homemade tortillas make it worth the trip. I've had everything on the menu, and my favorite by far, is the" Special Burrito." It's a huge homemade tortilla, filled with beans, cheese, guacamole, and onions. Get it "wet" for a little more, and you'll be in heaven. The Chile relleno burrito is my second favorite. Just beware, the seating is all outside, so if you're coming to eat there, be prepared. It doesn't matter to me, I'll continue eating here as long as they have their Windows open! read more

Good and cheap. I came by at around 3pm on a Saturday, and there was still a long line. I was unlucky enough to get behind an old couple who took forever deciding and then getting their supplies. I was getting antsy because there are only a few tables in their outside seating. I didn't look in the back to see how many more tables there were. Luckily, a table cleared by the time I got my deep-fried burrito (what they call a rolled taco here). It was tasty. The "salad"/random lettuce was meh. I stopped in for the first time, 3 days ago, to take dinner home! I ordered their "Special Burrito": bean & cheese, onions, and guacamole; and also, a "Chili Relleno" burrito! Both burrito's, were smooth tasting, and ok, but I thought the guacamole, tasted more like sour cream! Their hot sauce, was really mild, and nowhere hot at all, and very watery, with no thickness, at all. The hot sauce, was a real disappointment, since I like it........"HOT"! We are spending the night in the hotel next door to this restaurant. We decided to give this place a try since the reviews were good. So my husband decides to go and order and asks for carne asada tacos. The woman working the register in the front rudely replied that this isn't that kind of restaurant. Then what kind of restaurant is this? I'll tell you. I ordered what I thought was the chile verde plate, my husband got a burrito and we got a taco. Can I just say I have never in my life had this bad of food in my life? The beef. If thats what you want to call it was dry, bland, tasteless. The burrito and taco just as bad. Unless you don't know anything about Mexican food, then this is your spot. The salsa actually gave the rice and beans flavor. The tortilla was decent. Other than that, you are better off going to any other place to eat anything else. This place is horrible because I wasn't sure what we were eating. Had to throw the taco away. The Jamaica is from a fountain machine which you could tell. Avoid this place at all costs. When I think garbage and burrito, I usually think of sifting through someone else's trash to find leftover burrito scraps. After that, I think of El Burrito. Ooey Gooey filling in a monster of a burrito, how you take me back. The tortilla itself is perhaps worth the visit. Also, do yourself a favor and get a couple taquitos with quacamole.
