As a proud, card-carrying member of the "Find the Best Wings in Connecticut" father-son tour, I…read morehave to start by tipping my hat to my fellow Yelpers... because you were absolutely right. My son and I rolled into TK's American Cafe with high hopes and empty stomachs, ready to see if this stop could challenge the reigning champions of our wing universe: J. Timothy's Taverne and The Groggy Frog. Punchline: It didn't dethrone the champs... but the experience itself was still pretty great. First, the atmosphere is fantastic. Old wooden booths, high tops, TVs right at the table, KENO(!!!), and that perfect slightly chaotic sports-bar energy that tells you wings are about to happen. The décor fits the town vibe perfectly and the place just feels like a wing institution. The service? Excellent. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic -- exactly the kind of crew you want guiding you through 70+ wing sauces like a sommelier of poultry. Now... the wings. The chicken itself was excellent quality and cooked perfectly. Crispy skin, juicy meat, great size -- everything you want when the wings arrive. When we saw the massive sauce selection, we were ready for wing nirvana. But this is where the prophecy of Yelp reviews past came true. The sauces were delicious in flavor... but thin in viscosity. Instead of lovingly clinging to the wings like a good sauce should, many of them staged a dramatic escape and formed a puddle at the bottom of the platter. So instead of eating wings, we spent half the meal doing a sort of wing-dunking relay, re-dipping each bite back into the sauce lagoon. To be fair, the teriyaki and barbecue-based sauces held on better, but if you're a classic hot-sauce wing person like me, you may find your wings swimming more than sticking. The blue cheese was excellent, the celery and veggies were fresh and crisp... although the carrots were so wide they looked like they were cut for a horse with impressive jaw strength. Credit where it's due: the steak fries were fantastic, and the nachos were surprisingly great -- the kind that taste like something you could make at home... except somehow way better. So where do we land? Great atmosphere. Excellent service. Very good food overall. But on the Connecticut Wing Power Rankings, the crown still belongs to J. Timothy's and The Groggy Frog. Would I come back? Maybe... but on the drive home we passed about six intriguing Brazilian restaurants and a Pepe's pizza, and suddenly my lunch decision tree got complicated. Still, I'm glad we tried it. TK's is a fun spot with a great vibe -- just maybe bring a spoon so you can scoop the sauce back onto your wings. PS: if you stick blend/emulsify some xanthan gum into the wing sauce when you're making it hot... It will stick perfectly to the wings... In case improvement is something you're interested in

My wife and son were super excited to try barbecue at this famous local spot, but we definitely caught them on an off night. Reviews are mostly good for this place, so I guess timing and circumstances are at play. My wife ordered the peach cocktail and they were out. I ordered the RIBS, they were out !!! They didn't have the sausage for the combination platter and came out a couple of minutes later saying they had it (most likely just seared because the smoke was not there when we were eating). They were out of Brussel sprouts. They were out of MUSTARD !! I ordered a house pilsner they were out and I ordered another beer. Need i say more? On a good note they can barbecue. The brisket was very good. Great smoke ring and true winner. The pulled pork and chicken both had good smoke. Chicken was a bit on the dry side, but it was still good. Baked beans were good. My wife absolutely loved the cole slaw. Waitress was very good. Polite, apologetic and serviced us very well. We addressed our disappointment and hopefully by summer this famous BBQ spot can get back on track.

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on South Street with its own private parking lot is this gem. What looks like a seemingly medium-sized house on the side of the street is this unique spot. Out back there are several smokers that are fed with wood on a regular basis. Once inside you'll see the rustic concept. Lots of wood everywhere and a pretty open concept. Directly in front of you is the circular bar and off to the left is the main dining room. The lighting is warm and inviting as well. Service: The whole staff really took care of us since we were a pretty big party. We had no issues whatsoever. Food: So I got to try A LOT of things here. I started off with the Just Peachy which is Crowne Royal Peach served with a whiskey-soaked peach and some sweet tea. It was deliciously well-balanced and simple with only 3 major ingredients. Next up was the Homestyle Honey Cornbread. This was very good, soft and simple, I do wish the butter was warmer though so that it was easier to spread. Next up was the Honey Sriracha Glazed Pork Belly. It was so soft, so tender, savory and flavorful. I loved the bit of char from the "skin" and the sweet/spiciness was a great addition. Next up was the Smokey Mac & Cheese that comes served in a super hot skillet and it was SUPER CHEESY, yet very thick as well. This was so delicious, peppery, a bit sharp, but I really enjoyed it. Next up were the Buffalo Cauliflower Wings which are an excellent menu choice for those that don't eat meat. They're served over a blue cheese coleslaw and this was an awesome idea! I was very impressed because coleslaw is usually made with mayonnaise, using bleu cheese was brilliant. The "wings" themselves were crispy and flavorful. Next up was the Farmboys Old Fashioned which is a twist on the original classic. In it is Basil Hayden Toast Premium Bourbon and other secret ingredients. This was delicious as well and was just a hint too sweet to me. Next up were the Super Sloppy Nachos. These are a concoction of melted cheddar, homemade cheese sauce, baked beans, ranch, BBQ sauce, scallions, jalapenos and pulled pork. You can get chicken instead if you wish. These were delicious and very straightfroward, but pretty heavy. I actually really liked the fresh jalapenos that provided a bit of a crunch along with the chips. Very good. Next up were the Brussels Sprouts which are served with crispy pork belly and hot honey sauce. I mean, I guess these aren't healthy as they once were anymore. Lol. These were straight though. I liked how they were cooked and the other flavors involved drowned out the actual Brussels flavor. Second to last was the beef brisket. It was amazing and was so incredibly tender. Just simply amazing. I don't have anything else to say. Lastly, the smoked wings. These were super tender and they still had a crispy skin! The smokey flavor was excellent and there were hints of Cajun, maybe creole in it as well. I loved these so much. Value: Barbecue is usually on a bit of the pricey side, but that's just the way it goes. The food usually takes a lot longer and time is money. That's about it. This place wasn't crazy though and the portions are big so you definitely get your money's worth. In conclusion, I really, really liked this place and just wish it were closer to me so that I could visit more often. However, if you're on that side of the state or not, make your way there to check them out!

You can order in person, or online and pickup like I did. Order was ready when promised. When you order takeout, they give you an insulated food bag to keep your order warm as long as possible. The food is great. There is a wide variety of corn dogs, wings, soup dumpling, etc. I got the wings, beef fried rice, and corn dogs. I messed up with my corn dog order. I ordered the mozzarella dog which I assumed had a hot dog in it. I was wrong. You have to order the half mozzarella and half hot dog for that. Lesson learned. The breading was tasty and had lots of flavor. The wings are very crispy and tender. Lots of flavor and looks good for presentation in the box. The beef fried rice was very good. Lots of beef in it, not just mostly rice. I will definitely order from here again.

We were in the mood for Korean/Japanese and didn't want to drive to the nearest Bonchon. Looking at their menu, they had pretty much what we were looking for, so we ordered pork dumplings, udon ramen tonkatsu, gochujang KFc wings and some popcorn chicken as well. By the way, this is the kind of place where you order first then sit down with a table number and they bring it to you. The food came out lightning fast and it was pretty good all around. Dumplings and popcorn chicken were decent but the KFC with gochujang sauce and ramen broth were great. Messy chicken eatin' but so good. The pork in the ramen was okay but the broth and noodles were very flavorful and there was plenty of it. Didn't really care for the bamboo shoots but they were easily pushed aside. Place looked clean and well-lit and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The mango boba tea I got was good too! So glad to have this place around the mall. Sorry, mall dining options, we are very likely to skip you and drive across the street in future shopping outings.

Besides the temperature of the food being cold, their haphazard management was inefficient , they made ordering changes for Father's Day Weekend, and the experience was highly disappointed. And for anyone traveling to try, know the brisket and ribs were extremely dry. My biggest issue, was that in my platter order, it contained the following low quality/low standards: 1) two ends from the point, and one end from the flat were in my 1/2 lbs of brisket- thats three ends. One looked like it was reheated from the day before- but this means an employee thought it was a good idea to put MULTIPLE brisket ends in one order. (Btw good bbq places make something called 'Burnt ends'-you should google that). 2) The pork ribs contained two rib points. Same issue as the brisket. This means an employee purposely gave my order the worst rib from two different racks. On top of that they were butchered and flavorless. 3) The star of the show, the $64 beef rib was an end cut (thats bad luck but...) and was dried out and contained no meat. They also did not call me when my takeout order was ready, (I had to ask about it, after 35 minutes PAST my estimated time, and it was just sitting there). It came with no BBQ sauce. 1/2 chicken was nothing to write home about, but at least it wasn't dry. The wings, RyThai Chile , were excellent, and I liked the blue cheese. I also liked the Brussel sprouts. The guy who took my order over the phone was great. I have never been to brother Jimmies but I suggest you go there over HooDoos. I would rather try a McRib over trying Hoodoo's again... No one should EVER travel here- this is just a good example of social media fame. Yuck.

It's well proofed, the perfect balance of chewy and tender, gently salted and seasoned to allow toppings to shine. The thin Neopolitan / Neapolitan style crust is best eaten fresh out of the oven, not by delivery or take-away. After many years of eating at Stanziato's, though, we have some additional observations: As at just about every other restaurant, service is variable. The wait staff tends to be beautiful and young, capable about 80% of the time and less so about 20% of the time. The front of the house was extremely disorganized on a recent visit and although it was not busy, we waited 10 minutes to be seated. (We noticed others waiting a long time by the door without acknowledgment, waiting to put in or pick up an order.) Our first hostess greeted us curtly, and then completely disappeared, leaving a colleague to pick up the pieces 10 minutes later. Salads are well designed, but not always well executed. On several recent visits, our salads were slightly gritty with sand or soil. (A supplier issue?) Lardons in a Harvest Salad were cut into overly large pieces, fried too far in advance, and ate like salty rubber erasers. When it's not gritty, the beet salad is still a winner. Pizzas are sometimes served unpleasantly and excessively charred -- not just spots that might be expected on a Neopolitan / Neapolitan style pizza, but whole sections of crust. When 13" diameter pizzas run north of $20, I'd hope for better quality control. There is huge variation in decor from room to room, a legacy of the real estate takeover of the Latin bar next door, perhaps. The original rooms run pubby; newer rooms run clubby. The parking lot is as tight as ever!

Let's start with what they do right. The place has that classic Italian restaurant feel cozy, welcoming, and clearly built for family-style dining. You can tell right away why people like it. Service tends to be friendly, portions are solid, and it checks that "comfort food" box. But The BEAST isn't here for vibes alone... helpful definitely, but we're here for the food. And this is where things level out. The dishes especially staples like chicken parm come out looking the part, but flavor-wise? It's a little one-dimensional. The sauce leans heavy and slightly flat, lacking that bright, fresh tomato punch you want in a strong Italian kitchen. It fills you up, sure but it doesn't leave a lasting impression. There's also a bit of that "quantity over precision" feel. Big portions are great, but when you're sitting at a 4.7-star reputation, expectations jump and this doesn't quite match that level of execution.
