This is a Katie mainstay and has been for many many years that I'm aware of. The service is absolutely wonderful. The food is spot on. And the service is phenomenal. I had ceviche and guacamole both which were outstanding. The price and quantity is incredible. The ambience is a typical Mexican bar high-end and there's a live musician who plays during dinner which is likewise a wonderful experience. The tequila selection is extensive. Do not depend simply on the menu get up and go take a look at the Marriott Mezcal and tequilas that this Barr has is certainly worth your time and effort. They make a great Michelada. If you know, you know. El Asador is truly a hidden gem. We've been coming here for years, and honestly, it has only gotten better--especially over the past few years with the new ownership. This visit was no exception. I had the shrimp ceviche, which was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. My husband ordered the street tacos, which were excellent as always. Their fish tacos deserve a special mention too--some of the best around--but really, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. And the margaritas? Hands down the best in town. Consistently well-made, not overly sweet, and just right every time. If you're looking for authentic, consistently great food with strong drinks and a place that's been quietly doing it right for years, El Asador is it. We keep going back because we LOVE our OG waitstaff and it's close by. But we have stopped being bi monthly regulars to infrequent visitors. The food quality has just gone downhill too much to justify the cost and, frankly, I NEED good seasoning to eat Mexican food. That's sort of the POINT of Mexican meals, for me. Another spectacular dining experience with friends, courtesy of Owner, Pablo Gomez! Boy, can this guy cook! 3 of my dining friends had Sour Cream Enchiladas. The portions were most ample so there was take home, but they all raved about the flavor and freshness of the dish. I have been on a Chile Relleno in Katy quest since Chuy's quite offering their crispy Rellenos. I should have had them tonight, but instead opted for the beef fajita Queso Flameado's. A HUGE portion of bubbling cheese and onion interspersed with lots of Fajita meat. This dish is unbelievably delicious! Yes, I know I should have taken pictures, but we all devoured the meal. El Asador also has a large party room that held 35 tonight. If you haven't been, you owe it to your "Love of Latin" food to stop in at El Asador. My family of 3 came on a Friday afternoon (3/21/25) and we were told to wait for 5 min. There were a few tables open and we were the only ones waiting. Then a party of 2 came after us and was also told to wait for five minutes as well. After a few minutes they got seated on a table that can accommodate 4 people. I felt like the receptionist purposely ignored us. It's not like the receptionist got confused who came first with only 2 parties waiting. We then decided to leave. Notified the receptionist and the only response we got from the receptionist was a smirk on her face. My family has been to this restaurant a few times before and loved the food and service. But won't be returning after today's experience. I wish El Asador the best but pls treat your costumers fairly and with kindness. read more

My new favorite Mexican restaurant in Katy! Call me basic, but my go to dish is the enchiladas with ground beef. It's definitely a solid and I always come during lunch, which has the best portion and price! Be warned, you will fill up on the complimentary chips! This restaurant is absolutely outstanding. The service is excellent and the staff is beyond great. The food is amazing and they work very hard to ensure a good experience. There is a dish that is no longer on the menu and the manager came to our table and generously offered to make it for me. The prices are very reasonable and this restaurant has the largest helping of Guacamole for the lowest price I've ever seen for the portion you get. I don't live in Katy anymore but it's well worth the drive to go there. Try it once and you'll be a frequent customer. read more

I was working in Katy and stopped at El Asador for lunch. The green and red salsas are delicious and served promptly. The chips are just a bit greasy. I ordered spinach enchiladas. I was able to substitute the sauce for tomatillo. The green salsa needs more acidity or I can't quite pinpoint what it lacks. They come with cheese on top but I ordered without. This is a beautiful restaurant with Latin American music playing in the background. I'd return when in Katy. read more

upon arrival, we were excited a booth for 4 which was way too crowded, and the seats were extremely uncomfortable! We were given our water and our chips and salsa and 20 minutes later we had finished those and still had not seen our server! He finally came to the table to let us know that he was busy, taking care of an online order and would be with us as soon as he could! 10 minutes later, he finally came to take the order of the table next to us, and then came and took our order! We finally got our food We did not get the food for our toddler as we sat there with our appetizers and chips. We were feeding him beans to hold him over till his food got there.! but we had to improvise again! Then when the ticket arrived, we were charged for a dish that we had already canceled because everything was taking so long! So then we had to wait for the correction to be made on the ticket. He never brought us the corrected ticket, even though we could tell by the pricing that it had been removed, however, we should've been offered another itemized ticket! The whole night would've been extremely horrible had the water boy care of us! The server, however, needs to go back to school! Not someplace that will probably go back to anytime soon. Sadly, it was. My son's favorite place to go to and thought he was taking me to a great night out before I left town.! honestly I hope you never take me back there again. Our Taco Tuesday group decided to try this place 3 weeks ago and the food and service were GREAT!! Fast forward to this evening and I ordered the EXACT same thing the El Asador Salad ( no pico, cilantro or tortilla strips) The salad that I received this evening was NOT the same as previously ordered!! When I asked the server,Tiffany, who by the way was GREAT, why this week the only "greens" I received in my salad was iceberg lettuce, she was also confused, as the menu (pictured below) says MIXED GREENS!! The owner Pablo came and informed me that I was mistaken about what I ate and everyone at my table 3 weeks prior saw, because they haven't had MIXED GREENS IN OVER 18 MONTHS!! . WHY DOES THE MENU STILL SAY MIXED GREENS IF YOU HAVE NOT SERVED THEM IN 18 MONTHS???? NO APOLOGY FOR THE MISS UNDERSTANDING, JUST I AM WRONG ABOUT WHAT I ATE!!! Pablo informed me that the menu will be corrected in the next 30 days!!!! WHY DOES IT TAKE OVER A YEAR TO CORRECT YOUR MENU!!! Used to enjoy coming here and did not know that ownership had changed. Ordered a ceviche that was bland and almost seemed to be cooked shrimp served in water. No lime juice or flavor at all. Fajitas and carne asada also bland. Used to be awesome. Asked waiter for a Modelo three times, brought a Corona. Charged $3.79 each for 2 iced teas and a lemonade, plus $1.99 for some jalapenos to try and flavor up the ceviche. Surprised i was not charged for salt and pepper or a shot of Cholula. Great flavors, but questionable meat. I want to like this place. It's close to my neighborhood, has a great atmosphere, and I really like the flavor in their dishes. My problem is I would classify EA as expensive Mexican food with substandard meat. My daughter ordered a chimichanga. The fajita beef had very good flavor, but was also very dry. The same thing was true with the Chili Relleno I ordered. The shrimp inside the chili was salad shrimp, very tiny...the cheapest kind you can buy at the supermarket. Again, the flavor of the food was great. No problems with service. Excellent. I had a skinny margarita that was very good. At the end of the meal, for $40 total...I was expecting a bit more. There is a very good Argentine gelato place next door. Recommended after your meal. read more

We've not eaten here previously but will definitely dine here again. Atmosphere is attractive, and welcoming. Our waitress Tifany was very attentive and our courses were served promptly. I'm informed this restaurant has new owners as of a couple years ago. Don't know what food was like previously but we were quite happy with the food we received today. I ordered the chicken fajitas lunch special which was very flavorful. My husband ordered the El Asador salad and was very impressed with its ingredients. We were glad to notice how fresh everything was. Everything served was full of flavor, and not overly salty we were happy to notice. I put half my fajita in a take away container so I could have room for a dessert. We ordered the Tres Leche which was large enough for two to share, and quite literally the best I've ever tasted. The owner stopped at our table at end of meal to ask if all was to our satisfaction. We were happy to give a glowing response. At that time she mentioned each Wednesday they have happy hour with saxophonist performing. We've already marked our calendar later in the month to go back. I think I'll explore a different entree next visit and order the beef fajitas and flan read more

Unfortunately the only thing good here is the chips and salsa. Everything else is mediocre including the service. No kids menus to preoccupy kids, when taking our order had to come back and ask us what we ordered. I asked for onions to be added in my enchiladas and there was no onions. After we got the kids meals, then we found out they had came with drinks. The handkerchiefs smelled funky and there was no regular napkins in sight. This place is uh-maze-ing!! A friend of mine recommended it and I absolutely agree with her! They give you chips and salsa (green and red per usual), but they also give you a helping of their charro beans to start with. All three were so tasty! Them beans though! They'll have you switching your refried out for them instead. I got the mole enchiladas and was more than satisfied with the flavor! I was a bit disappointed with the onions because the menu said it would come with red onions (picture even showed it), but it came out with raw white onions. Not usually a fan of them, but I didn't even taste them, so I didnt say anything. I ended up eating the whole plate, onions and all! The margarita I had was the frozen cucumber. It was good. I couldn't taste the cucumber too much, but the margarita still did it's job. I'll be sleeping good tonight. Favorite Tex-Mex place in Katy! The fajitas are delicious and packed with flavor. The molcajete mixto blew me away!
