Speed. Food is always delicious and the vibe and scenic views are always nice as well. But this last occurrence is not on the workers or patrons fault. It's much higher. God runs their store and i support that every day with a purchase! Wait till you see the Cross Cookies!

This review is for their brownie only - lol. It was literally the best brownie I have ever had, so good I forgot to take a picture because I ate it so fast. Nestled in a cute old church, this bakery cafe has tons of food and drink options. I wish I had gotten lunch there too, but was just looking to pick up some treats. Only about an hour from DC in such a cute little historic town. AND, the service was beyond...the guy at the counter was so friendly and could tell he loved helping people. I will be back.

A very cute cafe near Downtown Fredericksburg that deserves some recognition. First of all, this cafe is cool because the building is like an old church! It's spacious inside, but still has cozy cafe vibes. We tried almost all the cookies, and the Italian Marzipan one was my favorite. I didn't take any pictures of the sandwiches because we ate them too fast haha. But the Irish Brisket (I think was the name) and the Katmandu sandwiches were both very good!! Also the workers were so nice, and one even gave us a bunch of recommendations for things to see/eat around Fredericksburg!! I'd definitely come back to this cafe again!

I've been coming to this bakery since we moved into the area and know the proprietor. The food is normally off the charts, but during this trip I purchased the Wild Rice and Turkey soup. I was prepared for my normal faire of homemade bread and soup from this establishment. Emphasis on homemade - with real Turkey and the fixings - carrots, celery, etc. However, as you can see from the pics it looks like they cut up some processed Turkey and vegetables - to my ultimate dismay! What happened?!?!? I am really disappointed because you moved away from the very reason I've been coming to Eileens - for home cooked soups with REAL ingredients. The price didn't change - but the ingredients did.

Turkey and Havarti toasted

My oldest son (30 years old) was in from out of state, and wanted to try out Eileen's. My husband and I had never been there, so the three of us went to "Eileen's Cafe and Bakery" downtown for Sunday brunch. Upon walking in, only one table was being occupied. We walked up to the counter, and my son went ahead and ordered a turkey and havarti sandwich toasted, with chips, then proceeded to pay for his meal. My husband and I initially didn't know what we wanted, but ultimately ordered the same thing to split. I also ordered a small container of cranberry couscous. My son had already paid for his food, and sat down. My husband and I then paid for our food, and sat down with him. About 10 minutes passed, and they brought a bag of food out for my son under his name. He opened his bag, which just had his sandwich, but waited for us to get our food to eat (we all grabbed our chips upon ordering). We waited an additional 5 minutes or so. We see other people coming in, and getting their sandwiches, and we're still waiting. I walk up to the counter, and very politely ask about our order. I said, "My son ordered the same sandwich that we ordered, and he's had his for a while. We were just behind him, and have been waiting for some time". After a confused look, and some going back and forth (we handed her our receipt), she came out with our sandwich. I said, 'We also ordered couscous", and she then brought that out. She said, "Well we had the order under his name". I said, "Well we were 2 separate paying customers. Not to mention, that's fine if you put our order under his name, but when you brought out his sandwich, we still didn't get OUR order." Just because we walked in together, means nothing. He ordered separately, paid separately, and sat down. I don't care whose name it was under (not that I understand WHY they put it under his name). At the end of the day, they still didn't bring out enough food to our table. And somehow, without offering any apology, the staff member (a younger woman with red hair), acted as though it was OUR fault that they never brought out OUR food. How was I supposed to know that they put our order under his name too? And again, they still didn't bring out the entire order. The sandwich was decent; not the best I've had, and I certainly wouldn't go out of my way for it, but it was worth the price. The couscous salad wasn't worth $7.50 at all. The cafe is charming and lovely. Staff could afford to be more polite and professional. That remains a huge turnoff for me. If I can't get decent service, I am the type of person that will never return. I expect a certain level of service from places that we're paying, not just for the food, but the experience. 2/5 stars. Can't recommend based on the inept, unprofessional, and unreliable customer service, mediocre food, and limited menu selections.

Shortbread cookie

We stopped by this cute cafe/bakery inside an old church twice while visiting Fredericksburg recently. The first time, we got a small early lunch, and the second time, I really just needed to use the bathroom so I got an iced latte. The front patio is small, not very shady, but cute. We sat there and enjoyed our sandwiches and treats. Nate and I split the Mr. Washington - it was melty and super hot on a soft roll. In hindsight, ordering a hot sandwich was probably a mistake as it was already nearing 85+ degrees and I was sweating. We also got a couple treats from the pastry case - a shortbread cookie and whoopie pie cookie. The shortbread was much prettier than it was tasty, with blue icing and pretty pink flowers. Unfortunately it really just tasted like sugar without any other flavor. The crumble of the shortbread was nice, but I'd skip this next time. On my second visit, I tried ordering an iced malted mocha, but they were out of malt and mocha, so I just got a vanilla iced latte with almond milk. They don't have oat milk, which is usually what I order. The employees I interacted with were all super kind and friendly, which I appreciated! It was pretty warm and humid inside, I was a little uncomfortable waiting for my drink. Good options for vegetarians at Eileen's. I'd stop in again for a to-go sandwich.

Cookies galore!

A cute little restaurant in a cool old church! Staff is always so welcoming and attentive. The experience at Eileen's is always great. Lots of good options of baked goods, cookies, breakfast sandwiches and pastries. I tried their lemon crinkle cookie this time and am sad that I didn't order 1 of each cookie because they were that good! I've tried their blueberry cream cheese danish, almond and peach pastry, their bear claw, and their glazed cinnamon twist. All were VERY GOOD! Their prices aren't expensive if you're just getting a sweet treat for yourself, but can definitely add up the more you buy...so be careful because everything is worth it! Breakfast is served from 8-11, but get there early if you want lots of options. Lunch is served from 11-2. Their coffee & lattes are pretty good and the staff are willing to work with you on what you want.

The food is amazing, but the service is awful some days. This place would really be amazing if they had nicer staff.

Our bartender/server was Lashone and she was funny, fast and friendly! She was pouring drinks for the ENTIRE restaurant and didn't miss a beat!! The breakfast menu is small but everything sounded fantastic. I chose the Steak Tacos; my husband chose the brie and bacon frittata (added by the chef since the quiche was sold out. Steak tacos were delicious (see pic). Menu said they had steak, cheesy scrambled eggs, tomato salsa, breakfast potatoes and cilantro. I didn't see or taste any potatoes, but the tacos were still delicious! I'd only recommend draining the salsa through a sieve because of the excess juice affecting the integrity of the tortilla. My husband's frittata was awful. The eggs were dry; he compared them to "eggs at the bottom of the warming tray at a cheap breakfast buffet." The chef also served a side salad alongside. My husband asked about subbing potatoes and Ms. Lashone made it happen. She was the star of our brunch: drinks were delicious, the conversational quips were quick and funny. She was attentive without being intrusive and made sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. 5 stars for her and my food; 1 for the frittata. I don't want to average it and tank the rating. We'll be back soon to see Lashone!

She made sure to let me know there were specials written on the wall in chalk. I ordered the Hawaiian pizza crepe, but instead of ham and bacon, how it's originally made, I had just pepperoni. I would have added onion, but I thought a $1 upcharge for onion was far too much, so i didn't add it on principle alone. The crepe came out pretty quickly! It was very good, my only "gripe" is that the cheese and pepperoni didn't get a lil burn to it, like a pizza would have. I love burnt cheese and a lil char on my pepperoni! My sweet crepe, I got apples, sweetened condensed milk, walnuts and whipped cream. This was also very good! Not too sweet, just sweet enough! The apples retain their heat a bit, though, and i burnt me mouth, but that's my own fault. I will definitely be coming back, probably alone again, as it's a rather tiny establishment. This is definitely a hidden gem in fxb!

As you walked, the restaurant is clean, cozy and vibrant. There were 3 items ordered: 1) Avocado Toast 2) Cuban Sandwich 3) Apple French Toast. Let's start with the avocado toast, as it was presented on a platter with two grain toasted topped with smashed avocado and your choice of eggs which in this case was medium over easy and it comes with your selected sides - masala's with balsamic. Everything was delicious but I prefer my eggs to have a slight crust around the whites. The next item was the Cuban sandwich which didn't come in your typical Cuban style pressed sandwich. This was more a settle and healthy approach using 2 slice sourdough, pork, ham, honey mustard and pickles. The flavor was there as a Cuban version but kinda of a unique way of presenting it. For dessert, I wanted to try the apple stuffed French toast but only order half which comes with 2 pieces instead of 4. On the menu, it stated it was stuffed but I only found 2 pieces of apple chunks so I wasn't able to taste the full effect. It was also garnished with fresh blueberries and a bottle of warm syrup. Our server Kaya was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. I wouldn't mind making another visit to try other items on their menu.

The French toast was mediocre. The home fries were also flavorless. The coffee was bitter. We ate at a cheap, popular national breakfast chain yesterday and found that to be more flavorful than this place. I wish this place well, but the next time I'm in VA, I'll be heading back to the cheap national breakfast chain.

The rooms are nothing fantastic, they feel very early 2000s which isn't bad but isn't great either. I feel the bathroom could use a remodel because the sink drains were clogged, and the bathroom felt very outdated. The room was spacious though with two queen beds, a chair and very cold A/C. It also had a nice tv in the room too. Beds also felt very comfortable which is nice for a hotel. I definitely would consider this hotel again now that my expectations are a little lower on what to expect. The hotel bar was always dead without anyone around, but the lobby in it of itself was very spacious and accommodating. I also really enjoyed how many things that were walkable around downtown Fredericksburg from the hotel. This company spreads and provides charity catering throughout the community with multiple outlets. Lexi was very patient as she explains how the menu works. I ordered 3 items: 1) Loaded baked potato 2) Fried fish 3) Chicken and waffles. I just wanted to taste the baked potato without any protein on top. I don't know what it was that had an off taste, maybe the butter. The potato itself was soft topped with cheese, green onions and a little bland. The chicken and waffle were tasty. The fried chicken wasn't as crispy as I would like it but it was well seasoned and the waffle was soft. There are so many options for your sides. So for the fried fish, the appearance looks delicious but it was very thin and dry. Even with the tartar sauce it was still dry. I was really looking forward to it. The sides I selected were fries and hope cakes (which are sweet corn bread). Their beverages are on point, I got their lemonade and sweet tea. Lexi was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant is only opened on Fridays-Sundays for regular business but since they do multiple catering events, they are open 7 days a week. They also offer Sunday brunch between the hours of 9a-3p which the entire dining room is open with mocktail and coffee station. There isn't a buffet during the brunch but a la carte off the menu. I would make a return visit to try their brunch menu in the near future.
