Use the website to pre order and do so early. When they get slammed, they shut down the online services and you'd have to call. And then the phone is very busy as well. When are they busy you ask? Any Friday during Lent is bonkers. One lady complained she was waiting over an hour after she ordered. Another customer explained it's Lent that's why it's busy. She was perplexed at how that should impact her as she does not observe Lent. Witness ordered at 3pm and asked for it to be ready at 5:30. Being late and arriving at 5:42 some thermal loss was to be anticipated. The food was in fact ready and very hot. Impressive. Witness was in and out in under 5 minutes. Flying solo, only one item was ordered, fried shrimp plate. There were plenty of fries and shrimp. So much so that the to go box had to be taped shut. Both the fries and the shrimp had a similar taste that was imparted by the oil. Not a bad taste, just unexpected and distracting. The shrimp had another flavor in the batter that was unexpected, familiar, and unwelcome. As it turns out, the shrimp appear to have been coated in mustard aioli before being breaded. While this kept the shrimp super moist, the mustard flavor is very unexpected and Witness could not get past the wild juxtaposition. The provided cocktail sauce was over run with hot sauce. The star is meant to be the horse radish but this one is about Tabasco. The spicy factor switched all the way to the smack you in the face flavor and added a watery consistency and creating a thin condiment. Last having been here 6-7 years ago, this repeat business has been a long time coming. Unfortunately, Witness will need to move on to another shop this Lent. read more

I'm writing this review because the couple who owns this spot are incredibly sweet. This place is a true hole-in-the-wall gem. My friends and I stopped in while visiting Worcester and picked up a 12-piece egg roll--so good we ended up eating them on the spot. They tasted just like the ones my mom makes at home growing up. The owner also gave us complimentary chicken fingers and crab rangoons, which were delicious. He was so nice and genuine, I decided to place another 12 pc order to bring some home for my family. Life is short F.....it up! Family, Flavor, Friends Finally got to try this local family ran and literally Mom Pops ran place. Which has been opened in this area for more than 15yrs. This place is only open for a few days during the week. There is only enough seats for 6. Most of the business is take out. A lot of folks coming order and the owner Bao says relax in your car and bring the order out to you. Very friendly and personable. Of course this is a fish fry place - those on the no fry food diet and move on. We started w the crab ragoons ( crab meat included) and egg rolls( of course it's in the name ). Both came out piping hot made to order. The egg rolls we did it lettuce n cilantro and drizzle w fish sauce- mmmmmm yum. And we got the fishermen platter w rings and fries. Loaded w clam strips and belly , scallops, shrimps and a big honking piece of fish. If I had a ruler it was probably ten inches high. Don't forget the lemon tarter and hot sauce. Just kind of meh. This is where I get food on a Friday night if I'm half in the bag and feel like taking a risk with my Saturday morning. They are pretty quick but the food is maybe, MAYBE, average. And I've felt unwell after every eating occasion. So, fast service, no ambiance since it's really just a to-go place, and you are taking a gamble with your GI system with every instance. We had heard about this place through the Phantom Gourmet TV special and made a trip out to Worcester to give it a try. Having already had lunch earlier in the day, we decided to just get a quick snack and ordered the 5 egg rolls for $7.49. We asked for an extra duck sauce for 50 cents, but they gave it to us for free! When we got back to the car to eat our snack, we also noticed that they gave us the 5 egg rolls, but they also threw in 2 pieces of fried chicken and 1 crab rangoon for free as well. It smelled so good that we had to try them before driving away, and they were delicious: Egg Rolls: These are really kind of like spring rolls instead, but the article inside explains why they were called egg rolls. They are kind of a mix between Chinese and Vietnamese spring rolls, and they were filled with a meat mince, carrots, cabbage, and glass noodles. I HIGHLY recommend eating them fresh when you get them - the outer shell was so nice and crispy. It was actually flaky to some degree, and the piping hot insides mixed with the duck sauce (I think they use cinnamon in it) was delicious! Crab Rangoons: These were interesting - they were folded like a ravioli almost and the filling was a sweeter cream cheese than we were used to, but still yummy! Chicken Fingers: We only had 2 pieces (for free!) in this order, but they were still nice and juicy. The batter is very good. SO we had this quick snack and then realized we liked it so much that we then went right back inside and ordered a full dinner for the family. The Egg Roll Lady's husband was very nice and spoke to us while we waited for our food - he told us all about his family, how he left Vietnam and the journey he took to end up in Massachusetts. He was incredibly personable and friendly - we were a little sad we didn't get to meet the Egg Roll Lady, but he was so nice and hospitable as well. On our second order, we ordered the Egg Roll Lady's Platter, a Whole Clam Belly Plate, and the Fried Fish (without fries): Egg Roll Lady's Platter ($14.49): This was supposed to come with 4 egg rolls, 3 crab rangoons, 3 fried shrimp, and 3 chicken fingers, but it actually came with all of that and probably 12+ chicken fingers. The takeout container was completely packed with food, and everything was really delicious. The duck sauce on top of everything really adds a lot here, and everything was great even though we took it home to eat - none of the fried food got soggy. Still, I do recommend at least eating 1 egg roll on site if you can. Whole Clam Belly Plate ($26.95): The bellies here weren't huge, but they also added extra clam strips on top of our order to round it out. It was still a huge amount of food and the batter is great! However, the clams were a bit on the chewy side. Fried fish ($13.75): There was a lot of fish for the price here and the lemon cut through the oil very nicely. They also gave us tartar sauce and hot sauce, which they recommended we mix together and it added a nice punch to the fish! It tasted very meaty and fresh. All in all, the clam belly plate was a little disappointing, but the other dishes and the extra fried food they added at different stages of the meal along with the awesome company from one of the owner's really made this a 5-star review. So right off the rip the guy was super nice. We had never been here before so we wanted to try a bunch of stuff. We got the 12 egg rolls, 2 cilantro and lettuce wraps for the egg rolls, onion rings, fried shrimp, pint of whole belly clams, kimchi per his recommendation saying it was the best and chicken fingers. Basically their menu is all fried. Now we went on a Thursday (first day open of the week from Saturday) and all the batter was dark and tasted of old oil. You should be changing the oil daily and seeing this was the first day of the week being open and only 1 hour now. This oil has not been changed for a while and tasted kinda of rancid (extremely old). While our order was $85 we ended up throwing half of it away. It was mediocre at best. Tasted like you can get from any dive bar that only served fried food. The egg rolls weren't too bad when you wrapped it but after one that was enough. The place is small and mainly for takeout so don't plan on sitting and eating. Seriously I wouldn't recommend this place at all. I don't remember where I first learned about this little gem, but after reading the yelp reviews, I decided it was worth the one hour trip. My husband and I traveled to The Eggroll Lady & Fish Shack because we had read many wonderful reviews complementing their delicious food. While it might not be much to look at the people, portions and overall deliciousness of the food is well worth the journey. We also don't eat fried food often and decided, based on what we had read, this place was worth the splurge. While the inside only has two tables, they do have air conditioning, which makes it pleasant on a hot summer's afternoon. Since this was our first visit, we decided to sample a few of the items on their menu. We ordered the 12 egg rolls which were more like spring rolls. They came with two duck sauces which had a hint of cinnamon and complemented the crunchy exterior, and inside that was filled with deliciousness. From the reviews, I've read, people described them as Vietnamese spring rolls, but whatever you call them they are a must have paired with their homemade duck sauce. You can't go wrong with these little rolls of love. We also ordered the fish and chips which comes with homemade tartar sauce, homemade coleslaw, and a lemon wedge. My husband, who doesn't typically eat fish, agreed to take a taste and was blown away as was I. Two generous pieces of fish accompanied a pile and I do mean pile of nice hot crispy on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside. French fries. To round out our selection, we ordered the chicken tenders again, more than a generous portion and very tasty. I might add that the 12 egg rolls came with a few of their chicken fingers and a crab Rangoon at no additional cost for us to sample. The older gentleman taking our order was very sweet as was the younger gentleman that brought us our completed order. The Eggroll Lady herself, visited our table as she did the other table asking how we liked everything. Everything they make is made with a sprinkle of love as you will taste in every bite. Supporting local businesses is something that our family tries to do whatever possible and this is a local business that you absolutely want to support. Not a single item tasted like it had been cooked in oil despite the fact that everything is fried. We have never tasted anything quite like the meal we had that day and, enjoyed our leftovers heated in the air fryer for two more nights that same week. If you're ever in Worcester or just feel like taking a ride, be sure to check out the eggroll lady and fish shack while their menu might not be pages long, they have many items to choose from all cooked fresh to order and come to you piping hot. They even take the time to leave the container taped open, so that if you decide to take your order to go, the food does not get soggy while you transport it. Currently open Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting at 2 PM. It's a tiny little shack, with tons of fried food selections. You can smell the food from outside, I had ordered some eggrolls, which were delicious crunchy on the outside and filling with every bite. It's not too thick or too thin. I like that it has a different filling rather than your typical eggrolls that you would find in the Chinese restaurants. I finally made it to the Eggroll Lady & Fish Shack after driving back from NYC all these years! First off, make sure you check their hours before deciding to go. They are not opened every day. Parking is limited, but you'll find one on their side of the street eventually. The space is tiny, so eating there might be difficult. I'd say take-out is the best way to go. There were about 4 tables to your left and the kitchen was to the right. The menu and specials lined the walls and the owner/staff were the most friendly people I've ever met. They were super appreciative and genuine. I wanted to walk on back and hug them. Ok now on to their food - I ordered the clam strip meal and the sampler plate to share. I'm so glad I did not over order because portions were huge! Ingredients were fresh, the oil they fried it in was clean (you can taste it), and their tartar sauce was delish! I was not a fan of their fish sauce though, but I hear it's popular. I might have to try it again next time. Their egg roll was airy, crispy, and not oily at all. It reminded me of my grandmas spring rolls (she's too old to make them now, so I guess I'll just have to stop by this spot when in MA). We watched their presentation on the local Phantom Gourmet TV show a few weeks ago, and I figured I would get some takeout from her business before returning home. She did NOT disappoint! Came here after seeing this place in on the Phantom Gourmet. I drove to Worcester from Boston which was about 1 hour away but I feel as if it was worth it. I ordered the crab Rangoon's, chicken fingers and egg rolls. The chicken fingers were very good crispy and well seasoned. The egg rolls were very homemade. And the crab Rangoon were delicious. I think what really makes this place is the customer service. The owner comes out to talk to you and her daughters are so attentive. Definitely worth the drive. read more

The owners take the order, cook the food, and serve it to you. This is more of a take out spot but we ate in. The place only has 6 tables, keep that in mind. Of course had to try the Eggrolls (superb but more like a sping-rolls) & then went for the fisherman's platter (enough to feed @ least 2) loaded with perfectly fired fish,clams (belly & strips),scallops & shrimp mostly seafood with some fries. No atmoshphere whatsoever but a few picnic tables outside (where we ate). The seafood is fresh and the batter is so crunchy...just the way you want fried seafood to be. The Bahn Xeo crepes are crunchy on the outside and tender and full of flavor. It doesn't get any better than this if you want fried food. Whether it's onion rings, chicken nuggets, fish and chips, or egg rolls, they have it all. The prices are probably the most competitive and no one can beat their portion sizes. I would recommend ordering over the phone in advance. They'll probably estimate 10 minutes, but give it at least 30 minutes (if not more) if it's around a normal meal time. They have a few picnic benches outside to eat, and their parking lot is small - maybe 4 cars can fit there? Aside from the wait time though, Eggroll Lady is superb. This is my go-to spot for fish n chips. The haddock fish is of a sizable portion fried to a crisp golden exterior. The filets lay on top of a bed of fries with a side of homemade coleslaw. Great price, quality & quantity. Only thing is that I wish they were open more than Thurs - Sat! read more

This place rocks! I usually get the shrimp plate and my wife gets the fish sandwich plate. This place gives you so much food that you'll have a hard time finishing it all in one sitting and it's all DELISH! You also have to try their crab rangoons and egg rolls. The only negative I have is the wait time is excessive. If they tell you 15-20, give it more like an hour. Not their fault, they are just super busy. Well worth the wait! Nothing worse than when you are in the mood for clams and scallops and pay a lot for them, and they totally dissapoint! The clams and scallops were dark brown! Very Soggy, and badly under cooked! The clams were so bad they were welded together in a clump and the scallops were raw in the middle. We couldn't even enjoy the fries. Limp, heavy, and prob fried in the same grease. Also skimpy on the tartar sauce! Come on! A shallow plastic 1/4 cup dips about three clams! $$ for more! So we assumed with a shack that looks like this, un cooked food, selected bias reviews on their website, and doesn't everyone get a good review on advertising TV show phantom gourmet? This place has always been exceptional with incredible Eggrolls and big portions of fried seafood. Even frequently have been given free fries ,crab Rangoons or extra Eggroll in my orders. Now it bothers me to see people complaining things like waiting for them to cook your order when you arrive. It's because the owner is trying to give you the freshest , hot perfect dinner to avoid and sogginess. They even use long scotch tape it and tell you leave the container cracked a inch and add paper to The inside top of the container to try to avoid the steam from causing any sogginess. Lady tells me to pay her now , food is almost ready . I tell her no ,I will pay when food is done . She tells me to pay or she won't start cooking until I pay her . I feel soooo bad because this place is really very cute and the owners/cooks are soo sweet and pleasant as pie but I was not impressed with the food here and my other half flat out hated it! Got the clams and we are spoiled with our good clams from Stowe's and Jimmies of Savin Rock-the breading at both places is fantastic and the tartar sauce is excellent. The clams at egg roll lady was very greasy and the breading was a bit heavy and lacked any flavor. The spring rolls were very different and I didn't quite have the fanfare for these as most and I love Asian food!!! It is quite literally a SHACK with about four high tops inside and some outdoor picnic tables for those nice days. I had been wanting to go here while working in the area for quite some time but I could never figure out which days of the week they are open, it is apparently only three days but possibly more some weeks (I think). While a shack's MO is usually to offer fried up goodness, I was a bit saddened to see that there were no broiled options of the seafood items. I'd say, 90%+ of everything offered here is of the friedtastic variety. One of the only few items I could choose from that wasn't pulled from a vat of oil was a garden salad (which ironically, ended up coming with fried wonton strips). I was also a bit turned off by the prices, I will have a tough time coming back here on my lunch break to justify two items and a drink costing me $13. The food quality was decent overall and the smallest order of five egg rolls did not disappoint, although there are some places in Chinatown Boston that make them a tttaaddd bit better, not by much though. :) Balanced well with crunch, saltiness and a hint of sweetness. Kudos if they do make their duck sauce in house as it was heavenly and complimented the rolls perfectly. The salad was filled with fresh pepper strips and tomato slices but only consisted of one, lower quality type of green. The service was outstanding, from the nice gentleman who placed my order at the counter and asked the appropriate followup questions to the owner who came out to my picnic table to check on how my meal was going and if I needed anything. I'll consider going back certainly, but this place is more of a special treat than a daily lunch spot for me. read more

We saw this place on Phantom a few weeks ago and decided to put it on our "must try" list. It's a small inviting place with a nice menu. But what we wanted that day were the eggrolls. Let me tell you, we weren't disappointed. They are to die for. Eggroll lady herself served us and brought out a few extra items for us to try. Crab rangoons, chicken fingers.
