Varieties of Indian desi street food are just amazing...almost every week place!!

I was visiting my friends in Chicago for a week when I came across this place. The pictures on Yelp enticed me to walk the mile and a half to try this place, and I am so glad I did. I tried the egg wrap and the the curry with over easy egg and a side of Roti. It was some of the best Indian food I've had in months. I will have to come back every time I'm in Chicago from now. This place is worth writing about- unique Indian dishes you won't find at any other Indian restaurant- high spice levels which is also rare- i strongly recommend going with the "little spicy" option of the four unless you are adventurous. Portions are huge, taste great, and won't break the bank- definitely worth trying if you like Indian food and don't feel obligated to get the egg dishes because of the name of the restaurant- although the floating omelette is really good. read more

I stopped here a few weeks ago after reading the reviews on Yelp and on another foodie web site. I had 2 items here; an appetizer and one of the sandwiches. I had the masala papad for the appetizer. Papad is like a torta but it's super thin; almost wafer-like.It's topped with tomato, onion, and coriander. It was quite airy and all the flavors merged quite nicely together. You do need two hands as the Papad is quite thin. An egg is also offered a choice which I think would improve it greatly. For the entre, I chose the chicken masala grill sandwich which is chicken masala, grilled cheese, and veggies, all layered nicely on a double layer. It was quite good and consumed rather quickly. The sandwich comes with a side of chips. The menu is a tad pricey but rents in River West are as well. If you want to check out Indian food with an emphasis on eggs with a vegetarian and chicken option available check this place out. I visited at an off-peak time and they probably get very busy around lunch and dinner so keep that in mind. read more

The nearly was excellent. I had the Curry with garlic, rice, two hard boiled egged and roti bread. I highly recommend it.

Have not had Indian food in this style before, but am really happy to have come, and happier that this is just a short bus ride away from the apartment. I don't know what the formal style of cuisine is, but to me it seemed like Indian food meets diner; hearty healthy portions of food, heavy on eggs, cheese, sauces, carbs, at a very affordable price point. Came with a group of 4 didn't really know what to get, so just asked the server to recommend a few things off each section of the menu. For sure wanted to try one of their sandwiches and one of their rice dishes, so we got the Paneer Masala Sandwich and Lava Pulav. To round it out, we also got the Masala Half-Fry and Lachko, along with some Mango Lassi. Food comes out fast, on plastic plates with plastic utensils. Seems diner-y enough for me. First came the sandwich, which was a double decker with vegetables on one level, and very tasty marinated paneer on the other. Toasted well on both sides, it could have been a nice light meal, but we found it to be a very tasty starter. The rest of the food came soon after, and we dug in instantly. The sauces were intensely spiced but very flavorful, and the naan that was served alongside soaked all of the deliciousness up. The Masala Half-fry, when the egg yolks were mixed in with the spices and gravy, were a prime example. Having the rice from the Lava Pulav was also a good pick, because aside from being delicious on it's own, it could be combined on your plate with basically anything else you ordered to sop up more of the gravies/curries. Speaking of which, the Lava Pulav was sort of like Kimchi fried rice, minus the bits of fermented cabbage, in that it was both spicy and heavily spiced, but also topped with lots cheese to help balance that out. The Lachko seemed questionable at first...sort of looked like green refried beans, but that was probably the dish that brought everything together, as it was hearty, savory, and cheesey, and helped to be a counterpoint to the spice from the other dishes. If I had any complaints, it would be that the food(the saucy ones in particular) could tend toward a little salty and oily, which wouldn't be a big deal except that they don't really give you enough naan to compensate. Of course you can always order more for a dollar more, which we did, but when the food first came out we definitely noticed the imbalanced sauce:carb ratio. read more

Amazing egg based dishes made Indian style! Highly recommend the indian style grilled sandwiches... I come here most of the times for the amdavadi touch which is a potato based grilled sandwich. Poor customer service and management. Restaurant says it is open at 11 am on a Saturday. I put in an online pre-order for pickup at 11:30 am. I get there by 11:35 am and they say my order will take another 35- 40 minutes because they have just opened. The guy at the counter kept chatting on the phone (not a customer call) and did not even acknowledge me while I was standing there. He refused to help refund or cancel my order, told me to deal with whatever online service I placed my order with. Over an hour of delay in an empty restaurant for some veggie sandwiches with such a rude behavior!! I am never coming back or placing a delivery order. There are ton of great brunch places in Chicago with good food, ambience and service, Egg-O-Holic is certainly not one of them. read more

You have to give credit to restaurants trying new concepts. This is an Indian joint that specializes is all forms of egg based dishes - with a heavy street food influence. We had lunch here on a quiet weekday afternoon. The seating area was warm, neat and welcoming. We ordered the floating omelette with roti and the paneer masala sandwich. The food was craftfully spiced in wat that let the ingredients shine. Very comforting on a cold afternoon. They've got interesting names for the dishes, but the descriptions on the menu were very accurate. So go by those if the names don't mean much to you. Prices were reasonable. This place is delicious! We tried a couple different things: Masala fry with egg whites, egg bhurji, paneer sandwich, and the Stuti gotala. My favorite was definitely the masala fry with the egg bhurji as a close second. So much flavor in the food that it's hard not to crave it all the time! One thing though if that only one roti comes with an entree and it doesn't seem enough for the whole portion. Can always get extra though for a charge. I appreciate the idea. I mean, you have to be pretty creative to think "we need an egg-themed Indian restaurant." Still, though...the food's gotta taste good. Maybe you really do have to be an egg-a-holic to appreciate it here. I didn't get it at all. I ordered both curries and found them both too mild for my liking. If I get Indian food, I expect big, bold flavors. Everything here was really subtle. Now, you could argue, "silly boy, you can't season eggs the way you season lamb. OF COURSE the flavor has to be more subtle" and yes...I guess you have a point. But then I have to question whether or not the concept itself is flawed. Should you pair a delicate food with a cuisine that does best with big flavors? After eating here, I'm thinking no. read more
