I normally have a stomach of steel and can eat all sorts of food, but something didn't sit right the last time I ordered from here. Also the service is inconsistent. Such a cute cafe located on 1st St. in DTSJ! I've been to 3 different Egghead locations in the San Jose/Santa Clara area, but this one is my favorite so far. The interior design gives a rustic aesthetic and I love the neon decor! Loved the vibes. I visited around 2:30pm during my lunch break. I work in the area and I've been wanting to visit for a while now! The store was basically empty so I was able to walk up and order right away. (Shout out to the employee who rang me up, she complimented my outfit and basically made my day HAHA). Their card machine is kinda broken, so you have to swipe your card. I ordered a strawberry matcha latte! The service was pretty good and they served my drink under 5 mins. Strawberry matcha latte: 3/5 The strawberry purée was much too sweet for me, so I recommend either adjusting the sweetness level (if possible), or just getting a regular matcha latte. I did love the presentation and color gradients though! I would come back here just for the vibes bc it was nice and quiet, with plenty of seats indoors. When I checked on our order, it seemed like they had no idea what we ordered. Another 15 minutes passed (so about an hour after we ordered) and we watched two groups who ordered after us get their food first. When I went up again, the staff still couldn't find our order and even tried to give me someone else's sandwich. At that point, we were frustrated and asked for a refund since it had already been an hour with still no food. It's disappointing because the food looked really good and the place itself has a nice aesthetic. Decided to come to Egghead on a random whim and I'm so glad I did! I don't love when my breakfast is too heavy so I decided to go for the scramble and my friend got the chick. The eggs were so creamy and the perfect flavor. I do think they could've done just a tad more with experimenting with sauce. The buns were super fluffy and soft it was like the whole sandwich is a savory cloud. I also got the matcha coffee. Situated in Downtown San Jose, parking proved to be a bit of a challenge. We ended up parking at the garage across from the shop, which was $2 for 15 minutes. I arrived at the establishment around 10 AM for a breakfast bite. Although there were a few people inside, it was still relatively calm. What truly stood out as soon as I walked in was the exceptional interior design (the best I've seen compared to their other locations)! The space is impeccably clean, with high ceilings, an open layout with plenty of seating, and an industrial aesthetic. I opted for The Chick Sandwich ($10.75). If you love popcorn chicken, you would like this! Their fried chicken comes fresh pipping hot, crispy, and PERFECTLY golden. The chicken reminds me of something you'd get from Shilin. Notably, the chicken portion is substantial, half of the slab was peeking out of the sandwich. I love the running eggs, the sweet mayo sauce & the arugula was a nice refreshing touch! The chicken by itself was a tad salty but I think when paired with everything else, it was well balanced! As someone who is not from the area, I had high hopes for this place but it fell flat :// One thing I will say is that the place has a really nice interior and ordering is super convenient through the use of a kiosk. Since ordering is through a kiosk, it is hard to get the attention of an employee since they're busy in the kitchen and they hardly come out to the register unless its to tend to online orders. On the menu, the drink and sandwich options looked sooooo gooood. However, it ended up just being okay. I ordered the Scramble with spam and a Brown Sugar Hojicha Latte. The Scramble (3.5/5): For a place that brands themselves around eggs, I think that was the most meh part :( It lacked seasoning or fluff. The sandwich is carried by the brioche bun, which I WILL give props for because that was easily the best part. It was soft/airy and sweet, which complimented the spam well. It wasn't bad, I just wish the eggs were a little bit better. Brown Sugar Hojicha Latte (2.5/5): I'm not really picky with my drinks, so I just don't know why this didn't stick with me. The drink was pretty watery, even though there was plenty of brown sugar. In addition, the brown sugar overpowers the hojicha flavor, so much so that it just tastes like you're drinking straight boba even when you mix it.
