This was a pleasant, and unexpected surprise. The chicken dishes were all fantastic with very good cuts of white meat chicken and tasty sauces. The boneless ribs, the beef and broccoli, the barbecue pork, and the roast pork fried rice are all excellent as well. Many options for, the carnivores in your family, as well as the vegetarians. The portions are all very large and two people can easily share a lunch entrée. The owners are very friendly and very generous, and we enjoyed chatting with them. The location itself is nothing fancy, it's probably best served as a takeout option. You have a few tables, maybe seating for 20 or so people. Arguably some of the best Chinese food I've had in a while. Never would've guessed that I'd find it in this part of Maine. We have been ordering Egg Roll for a long time ,but lately the quality of their ingredients have been subpar. The rice is always burnt and dry the bean sprouts are like dental floss you can literally choke on them. The dumplings​ are not the same and the pork ribs are awful tasting why do they bother serving them​ please just do away with them on your menu. I wonder if the owner ever sits.down and.taste.test there own menu because if they did I guarantee you they would make some changes. read more

I am new to the Sanford area. My wife and I were looking on Yelp for a Chinese restaurant and Egg Roll Cafe appeared on the list. We liked the name and it had positive reviews so we gave it a try. In the future I will call my order in but this being the first time I wanted to check the place out. As I entered, the woman working the counter greeted me with a friendly hello. The place has the look of a busy "take out" restaurant, the dining area is plain but neat, simple but not special. Stacks of supplies hear and there, a large pile of rice sacks. So on the plus side. The portions was fairly sizable. So although it was $15 I felt.like I was getting my money a worth. There were nice chunks of vegetables; zucchini, mushrooms (fresh),peppers and onions. The chicken in the spicy combo was tender. There was a generous amount of chicken. My takeout was ready a few minutes before the estimate. They even provided real duck sauce...not packets (which I hate). Now for the negative. Everything was too salty. There seemed to be a heavy reliance on soy sauce. The rice was dark from the excessive soy. Everything in my order had too much soy sauce. NEVER EVER will I go here again. The food SAT ON THE COUNTER for 40 minutes w/o telling us. Of course I paid first so they didn't care. Under new ownership as of April 2017, Egg Roll Cafe is a casual Chinese takeout restaurant located next door to Christo's in South Sanford. This business is not affiliated with Eggroll Cafe in Lowell, MA, which has a very different and streamlined menu. Like before, the place is order at the counter with open kitchen and there are several tables & chairs for eating in. The food offerings and pricing are similar to the previous ownership, including the standard Chinese menu including Cantonese, Szechuan and Hunan special dishes. They also have Pad Thai noodles on the menu. 25 Luncheon Specials ($6.25-$8.55) and 19 Dinner Combinations ($9.50-$10.50) are offered here and there are Coke coolers stocked with bottled Coke products, water, juices, Gold Peak teas, and Dunkin Donuts bottled iced coffee. Please be aware that MSG is prepared in the dishes, but can be made without it upon request. I stopped in here on a Saturday evening. The busy was very busy with most people ordering takeout. I ordered the D17 Beef Lo Mein ($10.50 plus tax) with Pork Fried Rice, Crab Rangoon (3), and Chicken Fingers (3). The women in front at the register were busy taking customer orders, answering the phone and calling orders back to the kitchen and also packing up takeout orders too. It took close to 20 minutes for my order to be ready since the orders were backed up. As for the food, the portion was very generous, the lo mein and fried rice filling up the square takeout box and the crab rangoons and chicken fingers packed in plastic separately. The Beef Lo Mein dish was comprised of the soft thin noodles (chow mei fun), not the thicker noodles, tossed with soft tender pieces of beef steak, onions, fresh mushrooms, water chestnuts, snow peas, & sprouts. The fried rice was the darker kind with soy sauce and lots of lean roast pork pieces. The crab rangoons were deep fried crispy, folded on top into a star filled with a soft cream cheese mix. The golden deep fried chicken fingers were big, which had soft white meat chicken coated with a thin crispy batter. Duck sauce for dipping was provided with the order. Overall, Egg Roll Cafe is a great choice for Chinese food at a fair price in Sanford! I enjoyed my dinner and I still had plenty leftover lo mein for the next night for dinner. read more

Stopped for take out at my husband's favorite place, "Egg Roll Cafe" and because we arrived about a 1/2 hour before closing went inside and ordered two combination dinners, an appetizer and a large fried rice which came to $52.36. While waiting in the car viewed the delivery guy exiting the restaurant with an order, so went in and picked up ours that resembled the packaging the driver took out. Upon reaching home in NH noted that our food was NOT what we had ordered at all. There was a mix-up at the end of a long hot evening. Suggest marking a menu clearly with your choices when ordering and aside from just accepting an order make sure it is the food you wanted. Otherwise you will be throwing out some expensive meals because it is something that you can't eat. Pretty sad when you are really hungry and have to prepare another option at home. read more

SOOOO expensive and food was mediocre at best. I have 100% had way better than this. Tasted like it was just old and reheated.

I called and ordered 2 dinner plates & one appetizer. The total should have been $30.35 plus delivery but the guy on the phone said 58$ so I told him that's not right and then he said oh sorry 47$ but that's still wrong so I just waited for the guy to deliver so I could check the receipt to see what they did wrong but the delivery driver came here with a sticky note with the ammount on it & no receipt... so clearly they are trying to rip people off. Oh lord where to start... The rice had literally no flavor. The boneless spare ribs were borderline raw. The crab rangoon was overstuffed (trust me it can happen). The chicken in my chicken chow mein was flavorless, yet somehow the best within the dish? The chow mein literally had all vegetable stir fry, and NO NOODLES. Basically vegetable soup with chicken. My wife had chicken lo mein and they used the wrong noodles. For 80 dollars, the only good part we had was the quantity of food. Please save yourself some time and money and go elsewhere. read more

My husband and I were in Sanford to do a little shopping. We live about 35 miles away. It was getting late and we happened to look over and see The Egg Roll Cafe...we were starving and wanted some good Chinese food. Let me tell you we found ourselves a real gem! This resturant has AWESOME FOOD! We ordered appetizers such as fried shrimp, crab rangoons, beef tereyaki, and white rice. All were so delishious! The fried shrimp were huge and the batter was perfectly crisp on the outside and moist and fresh on the inside. The crab rangoons were huge and fried just right. The beef teryaki skewere were tender and flavorful. Even the serving of steamed rice was gigantic and made perfect! The staff was so very friendly and the price was suprisingly inexpensive for the HUGE PORTIONS! They gave us a ton of condiments in thectake out bag and even those were great. It took us about an hour or so to get home because of an accident on the road and even so our food was still hot and fresh when we got home! This place is a real treasure! We loved it! read more

Absolutely horrible. First of all the entire room was filled with smoke and made my eyes hurt. My order wasn't there (in the building!) because the driver took it (even though it was pick up). I had to wait for him to return. I finally get home to find that my steamed broccoli and white rice are not in the bag! I called and they said, get this, that broccoli isn't included in the meal anymore, even though it's on the menu. What?! Then tell me that on the phone! Then they say I can either come back in to pick up my rice or have a credit. I chose credit, but after we ate the meal, I won't be claiming it. The food was terrible. The General Tao's was over cooked and old. The tiniest piece of chicken with huge amounts of batter surrounding it, poorly fried and with barely any sauce with it. The crab Rangoon was decent. They gave me Chow Mein instead of LoMein. Over all, a pretty horrible experience. We will not be ordering from them again! I have been going to egg roll cafe since they open. They keep getting worse the last time I went their once again they screwed up my takeout order. This is three times in a row ? They food is greasy and at times flavorless I would have to say the cooks seem to know whats going on but the people up front organizing the orders don't have a clue when ever you go in their, their is usually someone new all the time who doesn't know what they are doing. If you really want the best Chinese food in the area take a trip out to The East Restaurant in Wells they are the best around from 1-10 The Egg Roll is sub-par not good in anyway .
