We enjoyed our brunch! I had a tasty breakfast and my wife enjoyed her menu choice. The bacon was prepared as I prefer it - crispy. Despite being very busy, we were promptly seated and service was good. Noise levels were elevated, inhibiting conversation. The service was horrible, we sat for 20 mins without being even noticed. Went to a different section and that had the same result. We had to stop three of the workers to finally get acknowledged. Always a wait to get in but the food is always great. This is a must when in Hood River. Everything on the menu is great. Usually when I go, I get different servers and they aren't always the best. We stopped here on Friday morning, having driven past several times before and taken note of the sign promising an "eggceptional" breakfast. It looked like a cute place. Unfortunately, we had a terrible eggsperience. They were busy, but we were seated right away and our orders taken. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. An eggstremely long time. Aside from offers of coffee refills, nobody acknowledged the slow pace of food coming out of the kitchen. The only time our server checked on us was when one of the kids started to get fussy (because he was hungry!), so she threw some packets of saltines on the table. My older child tore into hers, only to tell us seconds later, "I don't like these crackers." What?! Who doesn't like saltines - even stale saltines are good. My husband and I tried them to find out why: they were RANCID. Eggstra, eggstra gross. The server's reaction when I told her about this (not wanting other people to be served rancid crackers): shrug of shoulders. (NB: it takes a very long time for the taste of rancid crackers to leave one's mouth. Vile.) Finally, the food arrives. It was fine. But incomplete. No promised toast with husband's scramble, no side of fruit that we ordered for the kids. Nobody comes to check on us. We eat, wanting at this point only to pay our bill and eggxit the establishment. Manager (?) comes to clear the table and asks how things were. Fine, I say, aside from taking an unacceptably long time for food to come and missing items. "We were crazy busy," he says, by way of eggsplanation/eggscuse. Uneggceptable. Yes, every table was occupied. So either he needs more kitchen staff, more servers, or to seat fewer tables. Not okay to seat customers knowing that you don't have the capacity to meet demand. Check comes, and is ineggxact - we were charged for missing fruit (and offered some discount for slow service - I didn't even check to see what it was because all I wanted to do was pay and leave). I asked to have the fruit charge removed, which led to another eggstreme wait. I tipped about 10%, which I actually thought was generous, considering. Customers in the booths on either side of us appeared to be equally unhappy with their eggsperiences. We will eat at this restaurant eggactly one time, which is too bad, because it seemed like a cute place and the food (when it finally arrived) was good. But the service eggecution was abysmal. read more

So my last review was removed by Yelp as I quoted the local health inspector. So.... let it be known that it was not good. Wait staff is absent minded. What is a darn shame is that this establishment is in such a key location in Hood River and could have potential to be a really GREAT place. My comment to "KL" regarding pages and pages of menu... this is NOT a good sign! Pages and pages of menu means tons and tons of spoiled stock. Keep the menu fresh, stick to the basics, have good rotating specials. Any one ever watch Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares? I do not understand why this place is rated so low. My wife ordered the huevos rancheros breakfast and I went with the Cuban sandwich. Both were excellent meals. Perhaps I do not care if the building looks like one built by a big restaurant chain - - - just serve me up some great grub and I am a HAPPY boy! They did it and I left happy. The breakfast at this place is solid! I had a delicious breakfast burrito with spinach and cheese. They even added extra spinach for no extra charge. My friends ordered skillet meals and a breakfast sandwich that looked good. I had to ask for a coffee refill once, but not a huge deal. There's parking across the street. read more

This used to be our go to place for breakfast. I at one time gave this place 5 stars. Since Maria has been gone, this place doesn't seem the same. Angela, our server this morning was gruff and made us feel like a burden when asking for anything, including cream with our coffee($7 for two coffees btw, I would have rather had a cheap margarita somewhere else!) We heard her being just as unfriendly with her other tables as well. We could put up with crap service if the food was good, but just isn't as good anymore. We sat down at a table with our friends and I pulled up the Yelp reviews....and saw some really bad reviews. We stayed because we were really hungry and two of us had eaten there before and recommended it. I loved the organic egg option for my Crepes Florentine, which were delicious. The spinach was really fresh and cooked perfectly. We all loved our food and loved the ambience. We will definitely go again! They even have a bar - hello - so you can get a Bloody Mary with your omelette. What's not to love? read more

Good breakfast choices. There is a lot of variety which is nice for larger parties or people with varied tastes. I had the strawberry waffles and while they were good they were just way too sweet. The strawberry topping was more like strawberry filling for a pie. If they had used half of the amount I think it would have been better. I would go back to try other breakfast items. read more

Had to get up to go ask to order a drink and more water. Egg skillet bland. Overpriced for the quality of food. Overly strong Bloody Mary (some like it that way). Service was poor, it took us over 45 minutes to get our food. People came in after us and were served before us. When the server asked how our food was we said it wasn't great and he walked away without acknowledging our comments. One sandwich had clearly been sitting under heat lamp for an extended period of time it was soggy and the meat was dry. They never came back to check on us or ask if we needed a refill on anything. The staff continues to be great, but the taste of the food has declined. I have been there three times since 2014 and wasn't impressed with the quality of the food. I've been going to this place since it was called Carolina's, sad to have to stop coming here. Just up the street, Kickstand has similar prices and absolutely delicious locally sourced food! I have never had service so bad in my life! I ordered an orange juice, my boy friend did the same. The waitress brought his and forgot mine. The staff of two in the almost empty place did their best to not make eye contact so they could continue to ignore us . We had to almost go to the staff ourselves to get a refill on our coffee. My bagel with cream cheese came and had no CREAM CHEESE, just a dried out old bagel. On the menu it states bagel AND cream cheese. I then pulled a very, very long black hair out of the fruit on my plate! Priced very high for VERY bad food and VERY bad service. It might be a good idea to keep the hair out of the food as well. Save your money and have breakfast in bed at home. I am sure you 5 year old could do a better job than these guys! read more

This was our favorite breakfast place around when we moved here a year a go. Since then the food quality has slowly diminished. The service has also traveled the same direction. Wife had to ask for coffee 3 time while the staff talked about how much tequila they had the night before. My breakfast tasted like after it was cooked it was sprayed with Pam. Great food, good coffee in a very pleasing atmosphere. I had a traditional breakfast of eggs, with a generous portion of perfectly cooked hash browns along with an unexpected four pieces of bacon. The presentation was good and service was as good could be expected with only one waitress taking care of the whole restaurant, however, we were there before 7:00 am and I noticed more staff coming in as we were leaving. My only complaint was that my food sat under the heat lamp while waiting for the waitress to pick it up so it arrived lukewarm. Most people would probably not have cared but this a pet peeve of mine. We ate at Egg River Cafe twice during a recent trip to Hood River area. I loved the decor, especially the large mural on the back wall. And the food was very good, too! We had a special of the day, fresh fruit crepes. They were so good and with a generous quantity of fresh fruit that we couldn't resist ordering them again!
