We hadn't been here in a long time and I couldn't remember why. Today the reasons became crystal clear. My wife and I stopped in for breakfast about 10:00 on a Tuesday morning. The place was practically empty, but there was still a sign "Please wait to be seated." We did, and were eventually told to seat ourselves. The menu was hardly ambitious, with the standard, ordinary fare one would expect at a standard, ordinary breakfast restaurant. This was a disappointment to us, having sampled other more adventurous breakfast restaurants in the area. I ordered a cheese omelet (cheddar). It came with toast and some of the greasiest home fries I've ever seen. No possibility of substituting a fruit cup for the potatoes. My wife ordered the "Florentine Benny," eggs benedict with spinach. She said the spinach was well past its prime and couldn't finish it. Coffee was non-toxic. The prices are noticeably higher than other breakfast restaurants in the area, like The Mills and The Daily Paper, and we've had much better meals there. read more

Stopped in for breakfast today. My eggs, home fries, wheat toast and bacon were great. My friend's eggs benedict and blueberry pancakes were great. We ate here because of the outdoor seating that allowed our dogs to eat with us. I think we should have looked further. We had a terrible meal here and with terrible service. First off the patio was dirty, not swept and our our table had dried on sauce on it. It took a very long time for a waitress to come to take our order, they seemed to all chatting at the bus station. When we ordered our plates (4 of us) each came at a different time. My daughter's biscuits and gravy came well after the rest of us had finished. She also found a long hair in her food. When we told the waitress all we got was a shrug. I had toast with my meal, but it never did come. When I mentioned it the waitress said she would get it and it still never showed up. This was the height of tomato season in the northeast and I got tomatoes with my meal that were like cardboard. I asked for skim milk with my coffee. They only had the little packets of cream. I was told in order to get a little skim milk for my coffee I needed to buy a whole glass of it. The food was just okay, nothing special. Not quite the gruesome experience I was led to believe. I went here with a friend on a tuesday in november and we were the only ones there, so maybe that's why it wasn't so bad. We still had to wait a while for our food, but it came to us piping hot and it was obv the eggs are poached old school, so I blame that. Interior is mega cute. It was boiling hot inside, and the waitress turned down the heat for us. Coffee refills were numerous. I will say I found the prices a bit outrageous. The eggs benedict and hashbrowns were both delicious, but sheesh. Two people, two coffees, two benedicts came to $25. And I got one of the cheap ones without meat! Overall, I like the Egg & I in Estes Park, CO much more; but I don't think this one deserves the rep it has. read more

For starters we were not given menus and we waited 10 minutes until finally got up and got them myself. Then it took 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge our presence. My husband had to get up and get someone for us. One of the hostess went around asking if some people wanted their coffee topped off while ignoring others. The food was good but that's about it. They don't even have enough ketchup and hot sauce bottles for each table. When asked for them the waitress had to go to each table and ask if she could take them from other customers. There have been few meals that I have eaten in my life that were as bad as the Egg and I. Let's start out with the service. I'm pretty sure I'd rather have a turtle as a waiter. Our waiter was rude and the service was very slow. Next, the cleanliness. It was very dirty and disgusting. I don't understand how this could be approved by health inspection officers. Now, here's what really ticks me off. They are an "official" Egg and I restaurant. On the official Egg and I website, the only E&I in New England is in Maine! The Hyannis location is a ripoff of the official E&I, so I reached out to them. Finally, the food. It was pretty bad, not terrible, but it was cold and the coffee tastes terrible. I have passed by this breakfast place, located right on Main Street many times. From the outside, the restaurant looked a little run down. But often the quirky 'greasy spoon' type places are the best. Finding the 'Daily Paper' restaurant closed I decided to try breakfast at this place. Upon entering, I discovered the run down appearance continued inside. We were greeted by the receptionist / only waitress who lacked any personality. The service through out was poor and the overall restaurant cleanliness was equally poor. We ordered two egg sandwich's with sausage and hash browns. The sandwich was okay. Lots of egg but the sausage links were dry and tasted like they were sitting under a warmer too long. The potato's were okay but we found the portions lacking. Coffee was good but overall there are better options in Hyannis. This place will do in a pinch... But if you crave a good breakfast search out another place. read more

Just had breakfast there this morning. Ribeye (medium rare) & scrambled - ham n cheese omelette. First of all, it wasn't a ribeye, it was a sirloin strip cooked well done and both eggs dishes tasted funny , almost as if they put a little sugar in the mix . Our waitress was a pleasure!! read more

Awful, stay away from here. We made the mistake of dining inside this place and between the dirty windows, walls, and, dusty fake plants, we sat by the window hoping to get some AC on on a hot day. First the unknown waitress gave us diet soda and when I tracked her down (making napkin utensils), she told me we were the second people who said the soda tastes like diet. I asked for some crayons for the kids which she brought over with some already colored torn pages from coloring books. As we waited for the food to arrive, I watched as another waitress feed herself from a table she just bused. When the mediocre food arrived we were committed to staying. The prices were ridiculous, $7 for a kids pancake, that's right, one lousy pancake! My wife's "lobster" roll contained no real lobster, instead was made up of imitation crab meat. When we had to use the bathroom, I could believe that the bathroom and food pantry/kitchen were separated by a tarp. The waitress didn't take the soda off the receipt and I had to track her down once again. I don't recommend this place to anyone. The kind you keep picking at when you swore you were done 10 minutes ago. Excellent Breakfast sausages and Canadian bacon. They make my daughter say "yummy piggy" which just cracks me up. Good Coffee, tasty, hot and tons of cream and sugar on the table for me to abuse. Good eggs- fresh and cooked as ordered. Good Timing - We were seated as we entered, ordered in 5 minutes, and had food in 10. No complaints at all. Negatives- Whoever the Gentleman (used so loosely) that was berating the waitresses and asking weird questions of them through out our breakfast. If he's the Manager or Owner, Oy! Go out back and do a shot, would ya'? Small negative -- the Mickey Mouse pancakes didn't look anything like the famous rodent. I'm only giving it three stars because I got the sense that they jack up the prices and skimp on the creativity due to the large tourist customer base. I have been going here for years, the past owners were great. Now it is just disappointing. Over priced and slow service, I wish it was still great. It has a nice location right on Main Street. This review is based on a few visits over the past couple of years, I was hoping they would get their act together so I could give them a good review.. but alas no. Waitress forgot we ordered 2 iced coffees, had to wait 20 more mins just to get our iced coffees... when she came over again she only had 1 and forgot we ordered 2..... Waitress came over to us after and explained the kitchen lost our order and she had to retake our order again.... half an hour later we had our "rushed" food order and waitress still forgot my toast. The kitchen put onions in the omelette when I asked for no onions. We had to flag down the waitress to give her our card to pay. It took her 15 mins to give us back our card. Went here because the other 2 places we usually go to we're too busy. Sat outside, the waitress took our order and gave us coffee. I ordered eggs Benedict over hash and my fiancé ordered another type with spinach in it. Our order came our 10 minutes later which was great. The first egg was full of water, second egg I chewed on a big egg shell and I didn't bother trying the third. The hash wasn't hash, more like canned meat but the potatoes were decent. My fiancée stopped eating because there was a thick black hair in hers and the spinach wasn't fresh at all. Pretty expensive for the cheap food they provide. read more

Went to two different locations, in town for three days, first morning tried one. Horrible service and it was slow, poached eggs are meant to be runny. Not in the water for the entire hour I waited for food. Like this egg could have cracked the floor if it was dropped. I dunno maybe the kitchen can't handle a table of 4, when there's only about 10 more people in the restaurant. Biscuit and gravy. Let's just say I couldn't tell what was worse. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Listen to the reviews. The place looked busy and seemed like a great place for breakfast. But don't let it trick you. One thing that wasn't too bad was the service. The waiters were nice and the service was pretty fast. Unfortunately, that did not make up for the terrible food and the fact that this restaurant was so unsanitary. There was a hair in my bacon and the place overall seemed old and sort of dirty. And the taste of the pancakes was strange and very gross. You could smell and taste the flour. I ate one bite and I couldn't even finish one pancake. The toast was dry and the potatoes were soggy. I regret going here and i will not return. read more

Last week, I had the divine pleasure of visiting Egg & I during a trip to Cape Cod. I was in a chaotic group of 7 people, a few of whom had dietary restrictions and other special needs. Yet, our server navigated our needs with apparent ease and with a very positive attitude. I, for example, wanted the lobster roll special (a mere $15.20 on the day we visited), so I asked if it were possible to get it made with butter rather than mayonnaise since I have a mayonnaise allergy. The don't usually serve it "Connecticut style," but they were making a batch of lobster salad at that moment. Therefore, they were able to keep some plain lobster aside for me. So accommodating! Also, we had a small child who is on the autism spectrum in our party. He has quite a few food sensitivities, but putting together his meal was simple since our server was flexible with the menu. Members of our party complained about the weak coffee, and my lobster roll wasn't the best I've ever had. Alas, the service was outstanding. Outstanding! read more

Last summer we waited 15 minutes to be seated. Then after another 10 minutes at our table and no service we decided to just leave. We were back in town yesterday and gave it another chance. We were seated in only a few minutes at a table that hadn't been cleaned yet. The waitress came and cleared the table, then gently wiped off the paper placemats that were still stained with the last people's breakfast and placed new silverware on them for us to use again. Where do I start. This was the worst breakfast I have ever had. My experience started sour when we first walked in, with almost all of the tables empty and a stench that was some rancid combination of a decaying building and melted plastic. I was ushered to my table, where coffee was served soon after. Water came briskly... 7 minutes later, which I later learned came from a pitcher on a table 10 steps away from me. The water tasted good. We ordered pancakes and something called the Texas special. Originally the Texas special came with 3 pieces of french toast, however we wanted 4 instead. After telling the waitress that we wanted 4 pieces instead of 3, she commented "You are very hungry boys." We chuckled, however we did not understand the full significance of this statement until the food came out. The wait time for the food was average. After the wait, the waitress came over with our food. My blueberry pancakes looked promising, as did everything else. The Texas Special, however, was not exactly what we ordered. The waitress misinterpreted what we had ordered, and thought that we had wanted 4 pieces of french toast IN ADDITION to the included 3. Since there were two orders of the Texas Special, 14 pieces of french toast was delivered to the table. We now understood the meaning of her previous statement. Our confusion with this later turned into great relief, but only after trying the pancakes. The pancakes tasted like cardboard covered with old flour. The restaurant seemed to know this, so they drenched them in copious amounts of powdered sugar and maple syrup. Both were flavorless. One bite was nauseating. The frozen blueberries in the middle did it little justice. The french toast had taste, but it was still bad. We shared the extra french toast as a last resort. The eggs tasted like the air in the restaurant and the bacon was chewy like greasy cardboard. Our experience got so bad that when we saw a young family of 3 enter and sit down, my group and I considered telling them to leave to avoid the torture we had endured. With tip, the bill for the 5 of us came to $100. I would have rather watched that money burn. The following day we ate at The Daily Paper across the street, saving 40 dollars and our stomach. It's so disappointing when a place you remember fondly goes downhill. I hadn't been here in probably 10 years, and have been wanting to come back for some time, we usually just end up somewhere else for breakfast. Well we finally made it back, and never again. The food was thoroughly mediocre and the service was terrible. The egg whites actually tasted straight up rotten. READ THE REVIEWS FIRST; STAY AWAY. Coffee tastes like mud- bitter and burnt. Breakfast took an hour and a half. Table had bird poop on it when we sat down and had to ask them twice to clean it. The place only has one toaster so don't expect your toast with your food, it will come after. The blueberry pancakes had what we thought was a hair in them, waitress came over and explained that the hair was actually from a scrubbing brush they use to clean the griddle.
