Basic diner food at an unreasonably expensive price in a run down restaurant. The staff here was fine, which is the only reason why this is getting a 2 star instead of a 1. First, it was incredibly frustrating ordering food items and hearing that any substitute (swapping toast for fruit) or particular ingredients weren't available. Many basic things our table asked for just wasn't an option and that was annoying. Once we got the food, it just wasn't very good. Eggs were dry. Benedict was overcooked. Sausages and bacon tasted better if I made it at home. Nothing was good and I think any IHOP or Denny's would have been better. We are a family of four with twin 2 year olds who accidentally stumbled upon this breakfast spot on our way to another place, but I am so so glad! The food was delicious! Tons of shaded outdoor seating, top notch customer service! Best breakfast we've had all week in Cape Cod! We waited a total of 6 mins for all food to be done (French toast meal, pancake meal, and steak and eggs meal) which if you're a parent of toddlers you know Speed is so important! Went to Egg and I on Father's day and there were lines at all the other breakfast places on main Street and the egg and I had no lines and tables open inside and outside. Plenty of staff. Extremely quick. Omlete was excellent with cheese and mushrooms. Potatoes were perfect, as was toast. The Street was closed for the car show and there were thousands of people in the street and this place rocked it. They were ready and conquered. Stopped here for breakfast because my hubby saw it was super busy so we thought it was going to be good. The service was good but the food was basic diner food. It was nothing to write home about. My biggest pet peeve is when breakfast places don't offer dairy free options for coffee. Seriously folks how hard can it be to keep a $3 container in the fridge just in case. Non-dairy lasts longer than regular milk. I ended having to walk down the street to get coffee with my meal. I was sorry that we made the decision without checking Yelp. Outdoor seating is nice and right down the street from the shopping/stores. Food was pretty subpar. I got the lobster eggs benedict, which lacked flavor. It tasted like it needed seasoning outside of a simple salt and pepper. Blueberry pancakes and mediterranean omelette were average. We were expecting the food to make us say "oh this is yummy!", but it was meh. The servers were nice, but they kept forgetting about part of our order. Last week we stayed in Hyannis for a week. Egg & I was the only breakfast restaurant I could find that offered a fruit cup. They have inside or outdoor dining, and breakfast all day (they close at 3pm). The staff was wonderful! They also have the cheapest lobster roll on Main Street ($22). It was delicious! If you like luke warm coffee, rubbery can mushrooms in your omelette and rubbery bacon after you asked three times for it to be crispy this is a place for you. If you want to pay the same price as your husbands omelette without the toast and home fries because of a food allergy this is a place for you. If you ask to substitute some fruit for those two products and they tell you no but will charge you differently for your meal which was really.39 cents savings. So technically the omelette meal wasn't exactly the same cost:( She did bring us hot coffee after telling us the first cup was a fresh pot. The second was much better. I ended up asking for a to go box to cook my bacon at home. We live here, not vacationing we are going back to our favorite place The Keltic Kitchen much better. read more

The fam and I visited Egg & I on Father's Day. The town was packed with people enjoying the annual car show making the restaurant very busy creating a back up in the kitchen. Wait time to be seated was less than 5 minutes. The waitstaff was very attentive to all customers. They have a vast selection of breakfast foods. It appears the variety of eggs Benedict are their specialty. My husband and some each got a Benedict. They both said their breakfast was delicious. I went with the French toast with raspberries and nuts. I was highly disappointed in my French toast. The raspberries were actually raspberry jelly. I expected the nuts to be walnuts as that's the typical nut on French toast. I was disappointed they used peanuts, but that's my own fault for not asking. The French toast was flavorless and tasted like it was stale Wonder Bread. I do want to point out how hard the crew at Egg & I work to make everyone's meal enjoyable. When I went inside to pay our bill, I was amazed at how hard those cooks and dish washers were working. It's a thankless job, I just hope they know how much they are appreciated. This place has so much potential, unfortunately the food is not very good at all. I ordered banana pancakes that were completely bland and difficult to eat. The banana wasn't even properly mixed in the batter. The menus and tables are sticky; and the waitresses, although kind, are a bit all over the place. The place could use an upgrade. The food was extremely overpriced for the quality and unappetizing. If you're too hungry to wait, go to a fast food restaurant, you'll get warm, yummy food at a decent price. Main points: 1. Good tasting food 2. We found a lot of hair in our food 3. Bad service I'll start by saying I really enjoyed my food here. It tasted good and there's a pretty large selection of breakfast foods on the menu. Just know if you get an omelette it is the size of a GIANT burrito so that's a pretty good deal. Unfortunately, there were a lot of things that led to a less than optimal dining experience here. Our waitress was very friendly but we had a poor experience with her. To begin with, my friend ordered the mushroom omelette and asked how much it would be to add spinach. She said it wouldn't be more than a dollar so he reluctantly agreed. When we got the bill, we were charged $2.50 for the spinach addition. We also found hair in our food (which wasn't her fault but still gross). Our of the 5 of us who went, 3 of us had hair somewhere in our food. I told the waitress and she told me that couldn't be because the chef was bald but I told her I was 100% sure there was hair. Then she stared at it for a little and told me they were just cracks in the plate and I said "no I removed it from my food" and then she just said "that's so weird" and never brought it up again. There was no apology or compensation of any sort. She also stopped coming back to our table after that so we were sitting around for a really long time and eventually sent someone in our party to go look for her so we could pay and leave. We also ran out of water after our first glasses and never got a refill because she was never around. We came here on a Monday morning so there was really no reason for her not to pay attention to our table. Overall, the food tasted good but the service was not good at all. Also, considering the fact that 3/5 of us had hair in our food, I'm willing to bet the other 2 also had hair in their food, they just ate it or didn't see it. read more

It is tough to rate someplace with such a cute name low. But I really did not find it very good and I have been here multiple times. One of the last time I was here was a pretty gloomy experience overall. There was dirt on one of our dishes and staff did not seem that concerned about it. There were also two doctors sitting near us describing (in graphic detail) an operation they had just performed. Now I don't know about you but does one really want to hear that when one is about to eat? I mean..it was very very graphic. And their voices got louder and louder. We walked out. I realize that is not the restaurant's fault but that, coupled with the dirt on the plate, coupled with the staff being not that friendly turned me off and I felt with so many great places to have breakfast on the Cape why waste time on one that seemed so lackluster? The other thing is (and this is a plus for some) their specialty seems to be eggs, although they have all the standard breakfast items. but I am just not an egg eater..not all that often anyway. And the food itself was ordinary. I have been back one time since and this visit was a bit better and thankfully I did not encounter those particular doctors and their in depth surgical stories this time. The food was alright, but NOBODY told us we have to pay cash, theres no sign except saying that they take all cards. Then after we pay our ridiculous bill me and my husband leave some extra for a tip and our server was NOT satisfied with the amount and hunted us down and asked us if her service was bad and why didnt we leave a bigger tip. I told her that I literally dont have anymore cash and I definitely wasn't gonna pay 3.50 at the ATM, (thats another thing in order to get money from the ATM theres a 3.50 fee) and I was definitely not wasting my money on her if she was gonna embarrass me and my husband like that. We visited Main St Hyannis, MA 10/17/18. We were out early to explore the area. We decided on this nice spot for a breakfast. All the places to eat on this street post their menus in their windows. Nothing fancy here. We were greeted immediately by our waitperson, Tenesha. Good coffee to start then breakfast. Breakfast was very good, egg & meat dishes for us. The portions were too generous. We took with us two slices of ham, one linguica, and three pieces of toast. Which we ate for lunch later that day. In all good service, bottomless cup of coffee, very good, but large breakfasts. My husband ordered eggs, perfectly cooked over easy, Canadian bacon, and potatoes. The potatoes took me back decades. I have not had breakfast potatoes cooked so well since I cannot remember. They are delicious! I watched the other plates come out. Everything looked perfect. The prices are very reasonable, not inflated. When I told our waitress, Annette, how happy I was with the food, her face lit up with pride. She told me the chef is Jamaican. If you are looking for fancy food. This is not your place. Honestly was tempted to give this 1 or 2 stars but the eggs benedict saved the meal. I ordered the short stack of pancakes and the canadian bacon eggs benedict. Long story short: eggs benedict was good, but the home fries that came with it were somehow simultaneously both soggy and burnt. The pancakes were a MASSIVE disappointment; I took maybe two bites out of them and just stopped because they tasted completely wrong. Not sure how to describe it, but the flavor was off and tasted nothing like pancakes. They also crumbled and fell apart which made them difficult to eat. I don't leave review often as I was a server myself for many years... but I do need to address our terrible experience here today. My husband, our 2 year old daughter, and myself we're ending our week long vacation in the cape today. We wanted to take our daughter to the harbor to see the boats so we decided to grab a late breakfast first. When we arrived the hostesses acted like we were inconveniencing them by asking for a table. We were sat right away though so I brushed that off. We were thankful not to have a wait with our daughter there. Our server approached us fairly quickly and brought our drinks quickly as well... then we didn't see her again for a good 15-20 minutes. I finally had to ask one of the other servers if ours could be found because we needed to order. Our daughter was getting antsy (actually beyond that at this point) so after we ordered I took her for a walk and then we headed back when my husband called me to say our food arrived. We were back at the table within two minutes. My husband was very annoyed when we got back and I asked why. He was missing toast, neither of us got butter for our plain Belgian waffles, and he had asked for more coffee. Again, we didn't see our server for another 10 minutes. At that point I again asked another server if our server could be found. She finally showed up with my husband's toast (he had long since finished his over easy eggs that he likes to eat his toast with) and both of our waffles were cold by this point as well. But we didn't want to make our daughter sit longer than she had to so we ate quickly and again waited for our server. I'd say another 5 minutes went by and I took our daughter for another walk, we walked for about 5 minutes and turned around... to find my husband still waiting for the check. I continued on with our daughter and he finally caught up about 10 minutes after. And to top it all off... the server didn't even give us the correct check but my husband didn't realize it until after he had paid and walked away because he just gave the server his card because he had waited so long. I would never go back here again. The food was expensive and it might have been good had I been able to enjoy it while it was hot. Wished we went somewhere else. Do not eat here. Unless you have two hours to endure the worse service in the history of time and space. Seated immediately. Sat for 35 minutes until the lady bussing table asked what was wrong and I told her no one had been to our table. So she brought coffee. I watched as three other serves just walked by us, no one refilling coffee or water. The table next up is had the same experience. One guy just went to the coffee station to refill his own coffee. One table gave up and left. Another man still had not received his bill and stood by his table at which new people had already been seated! I watched our waitress stand for minutes in the middle of the restaurant staring at the kitchen window several different times. At first I wanted to leave I was so mad, but then it became surreal. My son and I just watched as more and more people became frustrated. It was almost entertaining. When we finally got our food over 1.5 hours later, it was great!!! I was almost disappointed. The home fries were amazing. Bacon meaty and crisp. Omelet not overdone with real fresh ingredients. My son's French toast was yummy! The food came relatively quickly, and we both got the eggs Benedict which was good. The potatoes kind of threw me off -- I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't exactly this. They're kind of soggy, like they didn't soak them to remove the starch before being cooked. The plain pancakes were just not good. I can't put it into words, but pancakes are usually fluffy and have some substance to them. These just had a strange taste that the syrup didn't mask, and it disintegrated in your mouth immediately. We were seated quickly but it took awhile for a server to come because of a miscommunication of who was supposed to be serving us. We then ordered our food and one of our items was advertised as "fresh strawberries." When the fruit came out, it wasn't fresh fruit and they tasted horrible. The other food was good (pancakes) and was enjoyed. When the bill came, the manager took off the strawberries with ease and then after this was taken off, there was another bill issue.
