Everything from the taste of the coffee to the texture of the pancakes was executed perfectly. The attention to detail was key. We went there for a delicious cinnamon roll video, but there were no good pastry options. So I tried the curled-looking bread and a cute bun that looked like a slider. She said it's dulce de leche. I was afraid the de leche would be too sweet, but it's a good sweetness. But all the bread and buns are hard and dry. The mocha, though, is chocolatey and very coffee-forward. Matha? Yuummm, it's not sweet, but very thick matcha. Absolutely worth the stop! We had a fantastic meal at Bed and Roses. The salmon was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with the red beans, rice, and sautéed spinach. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. The iced mocha and iced dirty chai were both excellent. Rich, well-balanced, and not too sweet. For dessert, we tried the coconut and chocolate brigadeiros. They were massive and incredibly delicious. This place has cozy vibes, great service, and food that really delivers. Big fan of the coffee and atmosphere. It's the definition of what a great local friendly coffee shop and bookstore should be. Not to mention the latte drinks here are top notch. The BlackBerry bliss iced latte is heavenly. Creamy, smooth cold foam with hits of sweet blueberry is perfect for summer. I got a small which is the size of a normal drink at most places. Inside is very inviting as there are several tables nestled among the books and plants. The music and decor will give you hippie vibes. There was live music on a Monday morning. There are also a few tables outside if you prefer the auns This place is great for meeting up but working to an extent but it could be challenging to grab an outlet and take a call depending on where you can find a seat if it is busy. Was a big fan of Bread and Roses. The new owners really should have changed the name. There is nothing left that was Bread and Roses - not the staff, not the menu, not the vibe, not the books. I almost ordered from the menu (not realizing that they were no longer vegan). Since the former establishment was 100% vegan, I think it would be helpful to have a sign alerting people. I don't understand why they have kept the name. The few vegan options were...uninspiring. We left and ate at the Thai place next door. I hope there will be another restaurant to fill the Vegan void on the Cape. read more

My only gripe was that they were out of most of their drinks (and all coffee) when I visited. Would love to come back for their matcha or kombucha! Hands down one of my fav places on the entire cape. I love that they have so much local art and creations and that everything by default is vegan. The drinks and food are fantastic. A really cute cafe bookstore that has a cool selection of books and queer affirming stuff everywhere (newspapers, books, decor). They have three distinct areas to sit in: a large communal table, some smaller 4 chair seating, and a back area with couches and arm chairs. The specialty latte itself was pretty alright. The price was high for a medium latte (7 dollars) but I think worth supporting this cool space. read more

Found this place after searching for a lavender latte. I love the vibes of this place. Everything about it is so warm and inviting. When I see books, I automatically feel comforted and they add a lot of color to the interior. They also sell stickers and greeting cards which are all cute. I love cute stationery and stickers. Their stickers are a bit expensive but since they are social cause-related stickers and are a bit harder to find in regular stores, I suppose it's not too bad. There are also plenty of spaces to sit which I appreciate because many cafes have limited seating. They mainly have your regular cafe tables and chairs inside but they also have a big dining table with some more chairs and a couch and some cushion chairs at the very back. The food is probably the least notable for me. The lavender latte was good but not great and the avocado toast was alright. Overall, this was a solid find! read more

I stopped by for coffee cause it was the first place I saw after we parked our car. Cozy little coffee shop/bookstore. They are all vegan. They do not have whole milk. I normally am not vegan. But I got my lavender latte with coconut milk. It was alright. They had a mushroom and leek soup that smelled wonderful but we were so full from lunch we had no space. First, their website indicates they are closed on Mondays and Tuesday's- when we called today, a Tuesday, on a lark someone would answer - they do answer and said they are open every day of the week. I said their website said they were closed, response was, new owners as of 5 mos ago and guess he/she didn't update it. We went for the vegan options- had been there multiple times 2 yrs ago and loved the food, VEGAN and the vibe. And it was packed every day- no matter what time of day. Shocked when we entered the empty restaurant- vibe- dead, food- dull, vegan options- dismal. It was a funky, feminist, radical reading and unique books galore establisment It had a piano, and was a meeting place for interesting people having interesting conversations, meeting and good cheer. A unique combination of independent bookstore and vegan café in an unassuming Main Street location, Bread & Roses serves breakfast and lunch daily using exclusively vegan ingredients. The challenge for non-vegans like us is finding an intersection between flavor and unique ingredients. Staff is extremely polite and helpful, leading both of us to conclude that we should have asked more questions than we did. I hedged my bets and ordered the Mediterranean Scramble, consisting of soy-based eggs and sausage balanced by rich greens, chick peas, pepitas, and a tomato pesto. It was a delicious mixture of flavor and texture that I would happily order again. My wife ordered a breakfast sandwich with many of the same ingredients but lacking vegetables and replacing them with non-dairy cheese. In her estimation, it had very little flavor. In her defense, the best parts of my meal were the additions to the dairy substitutes. We'll know better for next time. The bookstore takes up a good portion of the café, which is both a positive and a negative: positive because of the unique combination of classic and progressive literature, but negative only in that there isn't nearly enough room to seat customers during busy periods while also allowing for thorough browsing. All in all, I am giving this establishment a 5-star review because it offers a proudly vegan option in the land of clam shacks and lobster rolls. read more

There's a woman who works here who's name I wish I'd gotten. We chatted about books for a bit and learned we're both from the same area. (Neither from the Cape). She was wicked personable and I bought the book she recommended. She spoke highly as well of a local author. There's a kitchen at the storefront, it is a vegan establishment though! Just a heads up to anyone going. We did not know that when walking in but still very much enjoyed what we ordered. I ordered the Mediterranean Caprese Flatbread. I thought upon seeing it that it was a bit on the small side but it was actually the perfect size! Pesto base, tomatoes, olives, and vegan feta cheese. Not something I'd ever tried before and I'm glad I did, it was yummy. To drink, a large iced cookie butter coffee! It wasn't even too sweet either! New expansion! Looking for good food, walls of books, super friendly staff, and an inclusive atmosphere? Look no further than Bread and Roses. We've been heading there to meet with friends, go on a date, browse the new and used books, grab a vegan brunch, or do a little writing with a cafe ambience. Everyone who works there is upbeat, warm, and friendly. Ask them about their plans for activity nights! We're so excited! I think that Bread and Roses will provide a great boost to the community. This is exactly the place mid-cape has needed for so long. As a person with a few marginalized identities the atmosphere of zines, buttons, protest pics, identity flags, and unique literature makes me feel right at home. The coffee is good (and we are picky), I tried the balsamic sandwich and it was to die for. Blueberry scones were a hit too. They even have vegan cake sometimes! They just expanded to include very reasonably priced used books in good condition! Lots of popular titles too. I think a kids section is underway as well. My friends and I can't wait to see how Bread and Roses develops as they settle in. We are so grateful! My hopes for this spot is a variety of community friendly events in the evenings, even more books, especially used ones, and to see even more local artist/designer/crafted products with the same diversity, equity, and inclusion messages already present! read more

Bread + Roses is no longer the place it was since the 2025 ownership change. The charm of this space is gone and it's just another generic restaurant on Main Street. Vegan options are boring and bland and the space pushes a certain religious agenda that is not inclusive or supportive. Horrible. The worse thing is that the new owners didn't change the name from Bread + Roses. This is a shame because the term itself is huge in social justice and inclusivity for all yet the place is no longer this exact thing. Will never step foot in this restaurant again. I am really impressed as there is no other place like this on the cape and Islands at all. There is live music most days, new local musicians. The food is incredible, breakfast and lunch options. My friend and I ordered breakfast sandwiches and a mocha and iced coffee... the sandwiches were incredible, my mocha was the best coffee I've had in a long time, and my friend said his iced coffee was great. I am allergic to tree nuts and they took it very seriously, which I sincerely appreciated. The chef even came out to make sure we were on the same page and I was comfortable! We came to this cafe because it was highly recommended by one of our teenagers, and it did not disappoint! I had the flatbread pizza with fig and pineapple and it was yummy. My husband had the breakfast sandwich with cream cheese added and it was so good. The vibes were very relaxing, the staff was super nice and friendly. For dessert, we shared a piece of the Biscoff cake and a chocolate chip cookie, both were insanely good. Highly recommend you get them. We also picked up a couple of books in the book shop area, and our 7 year old colored in the kid zone. She said "I really liked that place," when we left.
