Honestly, this is refreshing as corporations understaff and stress their employees. This local owner know what we the patrons want, we want people who are happy with their jobs and that's done by great staffing. This is my go to for any gift. Yes, you're paying more for a book than you would on Amazon but this is the opposite of a greedy corporation who screws everyone. This is truly local and I'm lucky to live 20 mins away.

I always drive past this place on my way home from the Wrentham Outlets. I finally got around to…read moregoing inside. My friend and I went on a weekday night, about 2 hours before closing so it was pretty quiet. I initially thought the bookstore was only on the first floor of the building but turns out it's a multi-story experience. There is a parking lot at the back where I parked and I was able to enter through the back door (not sure if this is the main entrance). On the first floor, they have some books, bathrooms, a check out desk, nick nacks (hats, stationery, puzzles, etc.), and most importantly, a coffee shop. The coffee shop was closing up around the time we got there so plan accordingly and do some research on their hours. as they are not the same as the bookstore. The books are clearly labeled by genre. After taking a stroll, we decided to check out the second floor which was supposed to have a little market, a stage where they host events, and some very comfortable couches along with tables and chairs. I mostly came to see if a book spoke to me, but also to get some reading in from the book I brought along with me. The lighting is good, although I sometimes prefer to have a dimmer setting for a cozier feel. We spent about 1.25 hours here, but we could have easily spent a longer time if it weren't so close to closing.

On the outside, it looks small, but somehow they cram books on every single subject within the little space. If you're looking for specialties and rare books, this is the place to go. If you're into cookbooks specializing in cranberries, this is the destination. There are tons of rarities for reasonable prices; the owners are helpful and will guide you through the labyrinthine store. Plenty of gardening books, histories of Cape Cod and New England, marine biology stashed next to Mormonism and geology, you name it, they probably have it. It takes some looking- and the looking is worth your time. There are pulp fiction books, old cassette tapes and LPs, Cape Cod memorabilia. It's called "haunted" but maybe because it's kind of a mess. Books are piled high, they fall, ghosts get blamed. It is a pleasant haunt.

Their beer/wine selection was also awesome - I had to get some of the Buzzard's Bay IPA! The employees are very kind and helpful! The Town Wharf General Store really fits the beachy vibe of the town and everything in the store screams "Mattapoisett!"
