Isaiah Thomas Books is easy to find on Route 28. It's a striking millennial pink Victorian house beside the Cahoon Museum. On the outside, it looks small, but somehow they cram books on every single subject within the little space. If you're looking for specialties and rare books, this is the place to go. If you're into cookbooks specializing in cranberries, this is the destination. There are tons of rarities for reasonable prices; the owners are helpful and will guide you through the labyrinthine store. Plenty of gardening books, histories of Cape Cod and New England, marine biology stashed next to Mormonism and geology, you name it, they probably have it. It takes some looking- and the looking is worth your time. There are pulp fiction books, old cassette tapes and LPs, Cape Cod memorabilia. It's called "haunted" but maybe because it's kind of a mess. Books are piled high, they fall, ghosts get blamed. It is a pleasant haunt. read more

I have been looking for a copy of "The House on Nauset Marsh" and every local bookstore I called didn't have it and would have to special order it...except this place. I called and the owner said he'd set it aside for me. What a neat store! It is packed to the gills w/ so many rare and used books. They have an awesome selection of Cape Cod books...all regions. The owner is very knowledgeable and kind. I definitely want to go back the next time I'm in the area to spend a good chunk of time browsing and seeing what treasures I can discover. read more

Amazing gem! We visited from out of town and I'm so glad we did! You can literally spend hours looking around and still find new and exciting books around each corner. Their selections is truly massive and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Definitely give it a shot if you're in the area. read more

Are you a fan of spelunking, books, and cats? Well, this place is for you! This book store is tucked away in Cotuit, MA kind of out of the way of most places tourists go on the Cape. It's pretty much an old house that's (literally) packed to the rafters with books. You can find everything from biography, fiction, non-fiction, and reference books here. There's even some old first editions hanging around. Browsing through the store is akin to treasure hunting- with so many books all over the place you have to really go digging to find some. It can be a bit crazy, but that's part of the appeal, I think. There's also a cat that roams around the bookstore. He's really friendly. The guy behind the counter was friendly too. Next time I'm even near the cape I'll be sure to stop by. read more

If you're a fan of old books, out of print books and books you never knew existed but will have to have when you find them this is the place. It's not BOOK OFF so don't expect to find junky piles of cheap used books, but what you will find are piles and piles and stacks and racks of collectible books and more. LOVE LOVE LOVE this store! It has its own unique personality . Just so different from any other used book store . I've been going here for years and have never left without a purchase. The owner is marvelous ! His kitty is adorable and friendly. The selections are mind boggling! Yes some books are more than I planned on spending but others I considered a great bargain so it balances out nicely! The owner truly is quite knowledgeable and has been so helpful! Love this place! I think, perhaps, this bookstore probably has the best selection of unique material I've found on Cape Cod thusfar. If you're a used bookstore fan, give yourself time to browse... because you WILL spend at least an hour here. Their nonfiction section is to die for AND they have some reasonably priced antiquated books. (Some... not all). it is a little pricy but it's up to you to decide what is and isn't worth it. A really friendly spot to browse and poke around, this used book store is easy to find, right on the main route. The building is beautiful and there's plenty of parking in the front. If you get on the mailing list, you'll be informed about the annual sale every winter. (He does have limited hours in the winter, though, so be sure to check that out.) I have picked up some unique books here over the years, however nothing is a bargain. The owner really knows his material and is also very helpful. It's not an easy business to be in these days. Used book stores have been struggling to stay in business due to all of the sales on the Internet. But most collectors prefer direct contact with a book and will travel far in order to spend time in a place like this. Large section of locally relevant books and all kinds of literature, poetry, art books, etc. He also has some very expensive first editions and rare books which are always fun to look at. He'll tell you more about them if he has time. If you want to educate yourself about book collecting, he also sells all kinds of material to help you out. Very addictive hobby, though, I am warning you. When I have some extra time on my hands and am on the Cape, I always stop in here and seldom leave without a new addition for my bookshelf. read more

I've been here a number of times over the years but will not be visiting again. I went in with 3 friends and carefully selected 3 books and, after ringing me up, the man at the counter asked pointedly about a book which a friend had brought over to me which I had looked at and decided not to buy. He very clearly insinuated that we/I had shoplifted the book. Flustered, I fetched the book for him but the whole experience was so off putting I told him i thought he was a bit more aggressive than the situation called for. He said "aggressive, you bet I was aggressive! Do you know how much shrinkage we get here!?" He showed me a screen with a grid of security cameras that he watched. I asked why he would ask me where the book was if he was watching me the whole time. He shifted his argument slightly to complain about how the book was from upstairs and we'd brought it downstairs. I told him I regretted my purchase and he offered a return, and took the extra moments to scold me a little more. Just to be clear, my shopping companions and I are all professionals in our mid thirties. Also, the amount I spent (and returned) was $12.22 and the book he accused me of shoplifting was $7.50. read more

Cool used & rare bookstore. Lots of neat prints. Can get a little expensive but a great place to go to find that special book. My brother is getting a doctorate in 18th century lit and has found originals here that aren't available anywhere else in the country. Very cool. read more
