It certainly lived up to the recommendations. We had maybe a 3 minute wait for a table on a busy Friday morning. There were lots of specials on the blackboards on the side wall. Coffee came out quickly; it was piping hot and mellow, with very frequent refills. I did try the bread, an apple-cranberry, grilled/toasted medium with a pat of butter for extra yum. I opted for the hash Benedict with fruit instead of potatoes. I got potatoes by mistake anyway, but they immediately brought over the fruit. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the Hollandaise was flavorful, and the hash was crisp and not greasy at all. Now it's my turn to be a good friend and pass the recommendations forward for others.

I've found this restaurant to be one of the best ones around. Scargo is one of the reasons why travelers shouldn't skip Route 6A. The French onion soup is quite good, with a nice beefy broth and a generous amount of cheese. It's nice that the restaurant offers bread, which is becoming a rarer occurrence. The entree portions are quite strong. The lemon flounder filets were nicely pan-fried and not overcooked. The seafood strudel has a good amount of seafood, including a lot of shrimp and smaller scallops. I don't think they have the cioppino anymore but that was also a quality entree as well. Service has always been friendly and professional. The servers are good at making friendly conversation without dragging down efficiency.

After placing our orders, our server returned with our drinks along with a basket of warm rolls and soft butter, a nice touch to start the meal. We both remarked that, because the fish here always tastes so fresh, we tend to order it every time. The menu offers early evening prix fixe options we regretted missing because the prices are wildly cost effective. We had the roasted panko haddock, prepared with roasted shrimp, citrus beurre blanc, roasted potatoes, and asparagus. It was delicious. The citrus beurre blanc leaned more buttery than citrusy, but it was still very good. The haddock was cooked perfectly. The honey mustard salmon, served with cranberry compote, roasted potatoes, and asparagus, was perfectly cooked and delicious as well. The honey mustard flavor was perhaps too subtle, but only because it was so good--we would have welcomed more of it. The complimentary bread service included several pieces of fresh, hot, crusty bread served with rich herbed butter. The bar atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious, and it was nice to see so many happy customers. We enjoyed champagne, wine, and mocktails. It's great to revisit this nostalgic space and enjoy its consistently good food.
