I saw a 25.00 special for a golf lesson... here is what the coupon says; "One hour one-on-one video taped golf lesson" Things were promising when I went in, they video taped my swing, and they sat me down to watch it... cool. But then, they showed me a 15:00 minute video from the 80s on their laser technology. The instructor left. After the video, they showed me more about how my swing wasn't right, they then let me hit a few balls... things were actually improving. Just as I was getting the feeling this wasn't a huge waste of time they pulled out their pricing sheet. From the time I got there, until the time I left was 45 minutes... 15 of which was watching the video, 5 minutes of warm up, so I got approx 30 minutes of actual "one-on-one instruction", aka, watching a video of how bad my swing was but not letting me practice of giving me any helpful tips on improving it. Basically, this is a HUGE sales pitch. There is little, to no, instruction on your swing. It's a 30 minute sales pitch.... and it still cost 25.00. I paid 25 bucks for a sales pitch. Basically the same thing that happened to Cody R happened too me. They wanted me to sign a contract for $2K!!!! And would not let me leave. They should give away the lessons, and even throw in a hotdog and some beers so at least you can EXPECT the hard close. I have never paid for a sales pitch before. The video was great, but I could have just paid for that and left inside of 25 mins. It is amazing too me how they try to apply so much pressure, all it does is turn me away. read more

I have to say, I thought going in there was no way I could get the service I did. I had purchased some new grips for my clubs from my local goldsmith who promised to pick up the labor charges. Big problem: League starts tomorrow and I can't wait that long. I walk into Edwin Watts. My guy takes me to the back and says "I'll get it done in 10 minutes." So as we spend the time shooting the sh*t about a Vegas trip, he finishes it up. We get done and he says "No charge. I just appreciated the conversation." Well , well , well !!! What kinda of deplorable truth , would justify my testament about Edwin Watts of Round Rock ??? I actually spend about $240 here one time , because i really had to have those Cleveland CG10s ; when they first came out. I actually enjoyed walking the store and browsing the clothing section , as it was actually less comacted than that of Golfsmith. I enjoyed the VR Machine , that would allow your 'demo' tests to be visualized through a computer monitor. The Black / Oddessy Tour putters were there , before most other stores even listed them online !!! Can't say enough good things about how this store was easily , provided me with experiences that were not only of delight but also of pleasure. Walking Golfsmith can sometimes seem troublesome when you're really just looking to jog your memory on the new clubs up and coming , along with those of old - in the used section. I've been up there (I live in South Austin) a few times since the late 07/mid 2008 quarters and have to say that honestly , i'm appauled at how atrocious and rampant their customer service and lack of common courtesy have become. It's like walking into a ghost town , or like i've got Anthrax lableled on my shirt with a clear plastic bag of white powder strapped across my chest because i couldn't ; for the life of me , get any form of customer service that you would recognize as a golfer friendly kind of store. Maybe it's because i'm Hispanic ?? I'll be in the store looking around , or just walking in to 1st use the John , and i'm almost road blocked by some short , pudgy blond haired guy , early 30s , with a very faint gotee. Guess he 'knew' i was there only to steal merchandise and he wanted his presence felt. Anyway , so after i'm done with restroom facilties , where were decently clean , i make my way over to the sets and start checking the CG Reds or Black Pearls , even the Mizuno's just for laughs---they're generally the most expensive irons avaliable. I think they were MP-32s...i spend probably close to 20 minutes browsing around at this area , with never once being asked for assistance , this being the case on many occassions. I'm a lefty and it's actually pretty hard to find the Titleist gloves in that , most are made for rightys / but to my luck there were still a few in stock. Generally when i approach this area now , always there is someone at the register or someone across the store watching me , intent on trying to tackle me for the thoughts or intentions of my 'desire to steal' just steam out of my body and are thick enough to condense soo rapidly -that glasses are filled and falsly labeled ''lemonade'' == and it's Hot too !!! So everyone is just going in for refills. I'm pretty big into martial arts and wouldn't even struggle disabling someone trying to restrain me , but i guess i don't look the type. I shrug it off , but now taling my experiences here will actually warn others to AVOID THIS PLACE. PERIOD. It's not a very non-white part of the South and you could actually go hit balls at the range at Golfsmith , which is on the property. I've got over $1500 in my golfbag , but these guys think that they're old-man Callaways , with their huge head (figuratvely and literally speaking) would even hold true to my skills. I almost did not go to Edwin Watts in Round Rock because of the reviews on this page. Infact I went to Golf Smith first, if anyone in Golf Smith would have given me the time a day I would have bought from them and never gone to Edwin Watts, this would have been a huge mistake. I first went into Edwin Watts on a Thursday around closing time, I was immediately helped by the Store Manager Mike. He made me feel welcome and showed me around the store, and helped me find some clubs. I wasn't ready to buy yet, so he gave me his card. I went back to hit the clubs on Sunday, Mike was not there but an associate named Jason helped me out. He spent around 30 minutes helping me find a driver and putter, and allowed me to hit them for as long as I wanted. Everyone on the staff was super helpful. I did not buy on Sunday, I went back on Monday and asked for Mike, Mike was in the back at the time doing inventory, he dropped everything he was doing and helped me out right away. The customer service at this store is amazing. I will never go to another store. I am glad that I did not listen to the reviews on this site, because it would have cost me a lot of money. I had always thought Edwin Watts was more expensive than other Golf Stores, this is not the case. For the same clubs at Golf Smith I would have paid around $200.00 more. These guys are amazing. First let me say that I'm no stranger to Edwin Watts. I use to live in California, and there weren't any Edwin Watts stores, but I was always fascinated by their awesome advertisements in the back of my favorite golf magazines. Anyway, over the last 20 years or so, I've bought several sets of clubs from them via mail order, and I've always been very satisfied. They seemed to always have what I was looking for, and at a reasonable price. I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina for a couple of years prior to moving to Texas, and they actually had an Edwin Watts store. I was really excited to finally shop in person at this famous store. At the time, it wasn't as fantastic as I'd hoped, but more than adequate for what I was looking for, which is a good deal. Where this store excelled wasn't in its selection of golf goodies, but in the sales people. They were extremely friendly, personable, and very professional. What that typically equates to, is a successful business, and me walking out the door with something I probably didn't intend on buying, which were two pairs of golf shoes, 3 gloves, and a dozen balls. How did that happen? Excellent sales people, that's how. Now for my review of our Edwin Watts store in Round Rock, Texas. I believe this store opened up about a year ago, and I just didn't get around to dropping by until recently. It's new, well laid out, and I believe the prices on their clubs are competitive, especially if your looking for some used sticks. If you need any customization to your golf clubs, they can do it. However, I comparison shop, and they tend to be a bit higher. I wanted to have a couple of irons re-shafted, and they were going to charge me about 20% more than Dicks Sporting Goods for the exact same shafts, and work to be performed. I have no doubt in their ability, but It's kind of like taking your car into a auto mechanic, and having a guy quote you prices from his selective memory. I like to see something in print, i.e., actual cost of a particular shaft, grip etc... I hate it when I feel like someone feels confident enough to try and snow me, and think its ok. When I was at Dick's, the guy jumped onto his computer, and was able to show me exactly what my cost was going to be. E.W. has several hitting stalls for instruction, very high tech. Also, a couple of stalls to try out clubs that you may be interested in purchasing. All in all, not too shabby. However, I was really disappointed because they were running a $25 dollar swing analysis/evaluation special that I was actually eager to sign-up for, but their instructor didn't seemed interested in enough to even want to talk to me. This was after I was looking at his flyer, and hanging out in the area for over 15 minutes. I'm not begging anybody to take my money. There's also one particular salesman who I intentionally avoid like the plague. He's probably in his mid to late fifty's and kind of reminds me of an ex-marine Drill Instructor. The very first time I walked into the store, he was on me like a leech. I explained to him that I just wanted to check out the store, and I would ask for help if I needed it, but he just refuses to leave me be. Anyway, I figured I'd let him do his job, he could show me a couple of clubs, I would say thank you, and he'd leave me in peace. That didn't happen. He talked to me like I was brand new to Golf, and extremely condescending. I finally had to be a little stern with him, and then the smart-ass comments start coming. I was dumbfounded by this guy, and I let him know it wasn't appreciated. I'm not a kid, I'm 47 years old, carry an 8 handicap and could buy everything in the store multiple times over, but when I say I'm just looking around, then respect that, and move on to someone else. It's really not in your best interest to hassle the customers, and or ignore them. I realize it's a fine line to walk, but that's sales. In fact, this is what sparked my review. I actually went back to the store a couple of times, and that same salesman retains the same attitude. Well, I've decided enough is enough, and I won't ever be back, and I don't care if their giving the store away. I'm probably doing us both a favor and I feel that I gave them the benefit of the doubt. It just seemed that unless I was buying what they wanted to sell me, then they had no use for me. That's just my impression. Nonetheless, I'll be taking my business down I-35 to Golfsmith. It's really unfortunate for E.W., because I'm an equipment addict, and I own at least 5 complete sets of clubs, and I'm constantly buying and trying out the latest and greatest thing. If these yahoos would have been a little nicer, they would have had a loyal customer for life, who loves buying anything associated with golf. read more

I just purchased a full set of clubs from the round rock store. My experience was way different from the rest I guess. I walked in and was greeted by a lady I told her I wanted to just look around. She left me alone to browse the store. I was trying out all sorts of irons just to see what's new. I haven't purchased a set of clubs since probably 97 or 98. I do play alot of golf. I actually build courses for a living and have been for the last 15 yrs. So don't let the long period of time throw you off between purchases. Yes I probably was playing old technology not quiet persimmons, but definitely not the latest and greatest. It didn't effect my game still a single digit handicap. I was just wanting to buy a new three or five wood. I never carried either of them in my bag just driver 2 iron. Well I had just played the black pearl in Roaton, Honduras and used a rental set R11's. and that changed my mind. While I was there checking out the irons the manager asked me also if I needed any help I told him I was just looking and he said ok and let them know if I needed something. I then went on to the fairway metals and was checking them out, making a few practice swings with various clubs, tons of space to swing in the store with out hitting anything. I was then debating on which club to buy and the lady came over and asked if she could help and she saw the club I had in my hand and told me it was on sale and checked for me. She came back and said it wasn't, but that the manager would discount a little, I then said I would take both 3 and 5 woods. While at the check out counter the manager came and offered me a driver for a great price, which I bought then said he'd see what he can do on irons if I like a set. Unfortunately the irons I wanted he couldn't help me with. I still purchased them. I hadn't payed attention to time, but they were closed and never once told me they were closing. I said I would hurry up and they let me know to take my time it was no problem. I had my family waiting outside, since I told them I new what I wanted and wouldn't take 15 min. After all was said and done. I had checked out. I had left and my daughter had to use the restroom which they let me in again to take her. My experience was a good experience the people there were professional and helpfull. It was a pleasure going into the store. I thank the people there for taking care of me. I will definitely be back to purchase more equipment in the future. Thanks read more
