I've seen them working on Scheels for about 2 years, and the community has been anxiously waiting for it to open. I finally went in after I thought the heroes had worn off, but I was wrong. Even on a Thursday afternoon it was buzzing. The service so far is what I call Texas Friendly, meaning from the moment you walk in, while your shopping or browsing, and until you leave staff greets you, ask if you need any help and thanks you for stopping by. That's the easy part to define Scheels. The difficult part is figuring out what is Scheels. I assumed it was a sporting goods store, which it is but not in a traditional way. They sell baby and toddler clothes, women's clothing and toiletries, men's clothing, toys, shoes for men, women and children, Legos and other toys. So what is it? Take Academy, Dick's Sporting Goods, Walmart, Sephora, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Bass Pro Shop, Guns N Ammo, BBQ Galore, a mall food court, and Ace Hardware. Mix it all up. Pour it into the building, and add an indoor Farris wheel and you have Scheels. The products are high end. Example: the only ice chests sold are Yeti and I could not find a fire arm for less than $1K. Some brands sold are what you might see advertised on Tik Tok/You Tube, which tend to be "boutique" style clothing and shoes. What a massive impressive store. They sell everything. It's like the Buc-ee's of sports. Every department is so clean, stocked and organized. A few areas I was asked how I was Donny, if I needed any help, etc. today is my first time, so I just wanted to wonder around and see what this store was all about. Bombas are my favorite socks. Been wearing them for over 20 years. They had a huge selection, colors and small medium and large sizes. They have Yeti everything. Coolers, cups, shot glasses, dog bowls, everything Yeti. Lots of fishing items, hunting items, football, baseball, all the sports. Workout clothing, sneakers. Kids clothing, toys, huge selection of LEGOS. Cafe area with dipping dots, roasted nuts, coffee. Also a candy shop with candies by the pound, candy apples. A variety of candies like Pezz, and Pop Rocks, etc. A great display of animals mounted on a faux mountain and rocks. Just epic. Not to mention the Ferris wheel that is only $1.00 to ride. Which I didn't do, as I have a little fear of heights. But will next time I go. Gorgeous aquarium with beautiful fish. Someone was standing near by with a clipboard. So I would assume they are checking the health of the fish. Everyone was nice, friendly, helpful. Cashier was sweet. She asked what I thought about the store. Told her it's nothing I've ever seen before. Very impressed. Gorgeous massive store. read more

Wow! We were not expecting to find all of the things we did here. It felt like going into a small tent in Harry Potter and seeing an entire mansion of fun inside lol. We were on the hunt for some rugby stuff to get before the season starts and could not find anything we needed in stock everywhere we looked all around Austin! But, thankfully Scheels had every.single.thing. we needed (and more, clearly!). The workers were so awesome. They were helpful and walked us all around on every floor to get what we were looking for. They have an entire aquarium, food courts and humongous Ferris wheel inside - plus 3 floors of greatness! I wish this was so much closer to us because we'd definitely come more often. Otherwise, I trust that this place will probably have things that no other place has that we need and will likely come back in the future when that happens again! read more

After seeing all the hype about the new sporting goods store in Cedar Park, we decided to take a look for ourselves on a recent weekday. This was about a week after the store opened. The store is adjacent to the HEB Center. As at least one other reviewer has remarked, the parking lot is poorly designed. The rows are narrow and broken up with cross lanes. If you have a larger vehicle, it might be best to park some distance away. I suspect there will be a lot of fender benders in this Scheels lot, so do be cautious. Scheels is a chain of 34 US stores with more planned. They have an extensive selection of name brand clothing, sporting goods, and supplies, all pretty much at manufacturer's retail prices. There is also quite a bit of local and regional sports team merchandise. The Cedar Park location is huge, with 2 stories and a large Ferris wheel in the middle. Rides are available for $1 per person. As others have mentioned, there's a large saltwater aquarium setup just past the registers near the entry/exit. It's definitely pretty and a nice attraction for the kids. Upstairs there's a candy store. In the back on the first floor there's a cafe area of sorts, with drinks and ice cream. We didn't investigate further to see what else was offered. Employees seemed helpful. We spent a bit over an hour browsing, but could easily have been there a lot longer. If you need anything that's sports-related and aren't bargain shopping, Scheels probably has it in stock. read more

I had never been to a Scheels before, so I didn't know what to expect. When I walked in, I was truly surprised to see a giant aquarium and a Ferris wheel all inside the store! It was packed on a Saturday, but I thought they did a great job managing the crowds. Despite how busy it was, the store didn't feel chaotic, and every employee I interacted with was very nice and professional. A couple of things I didn't like were the angled parking and how difficult it was to find certain things in the store. I know the developer was probably trying to maximize the number of parking spaces, but having one-way lanes throughout the parking lot doesn't seem very efficient. If someone accidentally goes the wrong way or waits for another car to back out of a space, it can quickly create a traffic jam. As for finding things inside the store, it's a massive place. I asked three different employees where I could find swim caps and goggles so I could check out their selection, and all three pointed me to different parts of the store. That's something that could probably be improved with better training or wayfinding. Okay, enough about the things I didn't like! The store itself is almost like a theme park, and you could easily spend a lot of time exploring it. There are even mini stores and attractions within the store, including a candy shop, cafe, and plenty of cool themed spots for photos. As an architect, I found the second floor more exciting, with its high ceilings and natural light. The first floor, on the other hand, felt a little more confined since much of it is underneath the second floor. The adventure of a lifetime is sometimes in Cedar Park. The adventure of a lifetime is the 300,000 square feet of the new SCHEELS location in Cedar Park. My girlfriend and I popped into the brand new SCHEELS during the afternoon of their opening day to see what was going down. Cedar Park seems to be rapidly growing in development with this and the Nebraska Furniture Mart opening right next door. Thankfully, there are more parking spots at this SCHEELS than there are residents in Cedar Park. The lot feels larger than the store itself. We drove the endless rows and rows of the parking lot, watching cars nearly drive into each other, drive over curbs, and nearly hit other shoppers, until we scored a spot ourselves. We took a deep breath before stepping in, knowing the chaos that would unfold inside. Outside sat statues of bikers, skaters, and more, like it's the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Disney. As we walked in, my eyes immediately went to the fish tank walkway before staring at the mesmerizing indoor Ferris wheel. Who needs the London Eye when you can have the Cedar Park Pupil? We started upstairs with their expansive toy section before moving onto their treadmills and strength equipment, continuing to move through sports, hunting and weapons, fishing (including fly fishing), grilling, and outdoor wear, and I think golf equipment. There is also a candy store, a stuffed animal display, an animatronic dinosaur, a western shooting game, and an arcade up there. All the major brands, from YETI, Carhartt, Patagonia, North Face, and more, were on display. Downstairs was focused on the clothing side of things, from athletic wear for both men and women to plenty of jerseys, hats, shoes, and more. There was gear from European football teams and F1 merch, which I thought was super cool and not at a typical sports stop. This level also had a full-scale cafe and a bike service shop, along with everything else. My girlfriend decided to grab some athletic tape for her arms, and though we thought the line looked extremely long, there were about 25 cashiers that kept the line constantly moving without a hitch. There is an overwhelming amount of products to grab at SCHEELS, but I'll probably wait for the hype to die down before making another trip, because fighting elbow to elbow to just look around with other people is crazy work. After we did the morning parking lot party & then sitting in the scorching hot sun watching our grandsons play football for five hours, we went went back to Scheels Grand Opening in Cedar Park to check out the store. It is truly, an incredible store to see & explore. As you can see from the photos there is not only a cornacopia of sporting goods but casual clothes, jewelry, toys & just plain stuff. They have a big fish tank that is cool (I think Bass Pro shop & Gander Mountains are better). An actual moving T-Rex Dinosaur , Ferris wheel, Plane hanging from the ceiling, & climate controlled gun room that is spectacular. Pricing? Well they kinda lose me here. They are no different & definitely higher that Academy Spirts & about the same as Dick's & Dunhams. read more

Lots if free activities throughout the 2-story store from practicing your golf swing to bowling. There's a free arcade and even an indoor Ferris Wheel. I haven't had the chance to go inside but man does Scheels know how to throw a grand opening parking lot party! The party started at 7 AM with gift card giveaways every 20 minutes, tons of interactive booths, food, vendor booths, and even sky divers! Honestly, it was a ton of fun, the vibe was great and upbeat with live music and there was a ton of freebies and free food! Even though a lot of the freebies were gone before 8 AM, I still had fun, and congrats to those who were able to get all the free shwag, especially the Yeti rambler which I was sad to have missed out on! Massive store, but it's almost impossible to find anything without asking an employee. Fortunately, there seemed to be plenty around to ask. They definitely need some signage and store maps. Maybe they're trying to force you to download their app, as even the elevators and restrooms were not easily found. Anyway, once I found the departments i was looking for, they had a very good selection. In fact, when I went through the gun room, they had probably the best selection of shotguns I've ever seen. It didn't live up to the hype. There's lots of gimics for entertainment. Theres not a lot of service or value. In an hour of walking around we were only asked once if we need help. Sales associates were pretty much invisible except for the "fair" stuff. Prices are average perhaps even a bit on the high side when compared to other locals sports stores especially compared to Academy which will continue to be my go to store. This was honestly one of the worst experiences we've ever had at an event like this. It was extremely poorly planned and the crowd control was completely unacceptable. My boyfriend's 15-year-old sister was physically pushed and yelled at, which should NEVER happen, especially to a minor. What was supposed to be an exciting and fun experience turned into complete chaos. I understand that opening events are going to be busy, but there should have been a much better system in place to keep people safe and organized. Extremely disappointing. read more

I had a really disappointing experience at Scheels today. My friend went up to an employee who she knows because she works there, and the employee simply walked us over to a section. A manager then came up and told us to "stop bothering his employees." I explained that we weren't bothering anyone and that the employee had willingly come over to help us. When I got frustrated and used profanity, the manager told us he could kick us out, which I understand is within his right, but the way he handled the situation was unnecessarily confrontational and unprofessional. What bothered me most was that if he had an issue with how his employee was handling the situation, he should have addressed it with his employee rather than approaching customers aggressively and making the situation bigger than it needed to be. Apparently, she ended up receiving an incident report over the situation as well, which seems completely unnecessary. There are professional ways to handle situations like this, and this was not one of them. I left feeling extremely uncomfortable and disappointed with how both the customers and the employee were treated. Management should be setting an example of professionalism, especially in front of customers. read more
