Located inside BMAG the main clientele of this tea room appears to be OAPS and BMAG staff members. If you ever want to find good quality food at cheap prices then you can't go wrong by following the blue rinse brigade. I had a toasted Tea cake and pot of tea which came to £3.40 which is the price of a grande drink in the coffee chains and I got three cups of tea from that pot! Bargain! I love the decor of this place as it has high ceilings, ornately tiled floors and artwork scattered around however the actual tables and chairs are pretty much the same as you'd find in your average cafe. When you select your food you can either get it out the chiller cabinet if you're after cold drinks for example or you tell the staff member behind the what you'd like from the hot meals and they dish it up and you load up your plastic tray. You do get the feeling of being on a conveyor belt as you're heading towards ordering hot drinks section and the till although a staff member did bring over my tea cake once it had toasted. From a cursory glance of the menu other items to purchase include soups, fish and chips, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and salads. I went in on a Friday at 12pm and it filled up very quickly so perhaps elevenses or late afternoon may be quieter times. If you prefer traditional tearooms to hipster hangouts or are looking for a drink and a snack after vising BMAG them this eatery comes highly recommended.

After a arti-ful day learning about the current collections at the Birmingham art museum we decided to take a short rest at the café located towards the back of the hall, Walked in 'wow' I said, what a beautiful place, The tea room is a pleasantly quiet hide out it offers a range of hot food and drinks with an ever changing menu. It has free Wifi too, bonus points. As always it took me a while to decide what to have but I went for the famous 'Fish and chips' in the end it was fried to perfection, and beautiful a cup of splendid tea The sauces also came in mini mason jars which was uber cute, beautiful interior and even have a range of comfy chairs for you to rest in. They also free tap water served in eco recyclable cups, as I eco warrior myself, I love this concept. Have a good day everyone, thanks a bunch for reading ---------

I went along to the re-launch of the iconic Edwardian Tea Room at the heart of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and experienced first-hand its remarkable transformation. The once tired and much overlooked canteen has been transformed into a wonderful space for a spot of lunch or an event. Prior to makeover the Edwardian Tea Room wasn't leaving a great taste in the mouth. It was basically a glorified canteen that didn't add anything to your visit to BMAG. Now, however, it is worth going in for a peek alone. The new look Tea Room is really impressive, with gorgeously upholstered soft furnishings, a large trendy looking bar area, large tables and great lighting. The walls are adorned with copies (splash resistant) of portraits of stylish Edwardian gents and ladies about town from the gallery's collections. The whole design feels very sophisticated and compliments the amazing, authentic space, with its beautiful tiled floor and huge glass ceiling vaulted ceiling, perfectly. The culinary offerings seem centre on British classics. On the launch night I got to try mini fish and chips, bacon rolls, fish finger sandwiches and various meats, cheeses and chutneys from the generous antipasto platters. All really fresh and tasty. Of course, I had to finish off with cakes and macarons - also delicious. I'm definitely going to be heading back for afternoon tea. Friends have eaten here for lunch since the launch, munching down on bacon sandwiches and more, and all have really enjoyed it. For a more boozy lunch, or a special event, there's also a well stocked bar. You can hire the Tea Room for a private do and the launch night demonstrated its potential as a venue. The lighting looked great, live music came floating down from the mezzanine above and the numerous guests fit comfortably into the space. The reincarnated Edwardian Tea Room makes a fitting addition to BMAG and is well worth a look; there's no better place to refresh after an afternoon spent looking at the collections.

Edwardian Tea room certainly looks the part; it's spacious with large regal ceilings and huge ornate windows. The chairs are oh-so-chic with kitsch colours and patterns. It's a little bit retro but with an equally stylish modern twist. On decor alone, this is one pretty place for tea. And so it would seem, the perfect place for an afternoon bite to eat. Situated in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, it's wonderfully located, with all manner of interesting things to be found just around the corner. It's nice to have such a beautiful museum cafe waiting to be discovered. The decor really lends itself to the museum, in particular the various beautiful paintings which hang in the Round Room. Delightful! We popped in for lunch after our set in the museum as part of the Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival. From the onset, service was a little slow with the lady on the till repeating our choices back to us several times as she put the order through. I went for a peppermint tea and a baked potato with tuna. In hindsight, I should have asked for mayo as it came without. Although, I did think that this was the norm. Not to worry! We did have a short wait for food but it was definitely worth the wait. My suki peppermint tea was delicious and the potato was generous in size and also loose on the portion control of the tuna filling. Just what I needed to power me through to our gig in the evening! The antipasto platter that was brought to our table, when delivered, was just left at the side of our table with not a word or question of where it should be placed which, unfortunately, was on the other side! I have to say that the antipasto did looked incredibly delicious and fresh. Although more of a sharing platter than for one unless you're very hungry. I would have liked the service to be a little warmer since no one came over to check if everything was okay during the meal or said goodbye and thanked us as we left. Although, I still did enjoy the Edwardian Tea Room for lunch this time round in Birmingham. The staff told us that it had just opened after being refurbished so maybe they're still getting to grips with things for the moment. As it stands, I'd say it's the beautiful interior that steals the show!

This is how they served afternoon tea to my neighbours.

Where to start? Food: delicious. It's basic caff on paper - omelettes, sandwiches, jacket potatoes. But what omelettes, what sandwiches! I had the brie and field mushroom omelette and a pot of tea. Massive omelette, loads of cheese and mushrooms. The people next to me had a sort of tea (preserves, scones, cream but also sandwiches). It came in a really clever shelf display... and the sandwiches looked like proper sandwiches, with a decent amount of hand made filling. Very comfortable seating, friendly service, great ambiance. Go here! You won't regret it.

I went to the Edwardian Tea Room today for afternoon tea and was really impressed. The tea room is part of the Birmingham Museum and Art gallery and is a beautiful airy space. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who seated us in a booth and took our order quickly. Our large pots of tea arrived quickly, I had a lovely loose leaf peppermint tea which was really refreshing. Our sandwiches, scones and cakes arrived shortly afterwards. The sandwiches were lovely, thick fresh bread with generous and delicious fillings. We then moved on to our scones with clotted cream and jam. Again they were very tasty, the only small downside being that all of the scones had dried fruit in them, I personally prefer them plain. The three mini cakes were also delicious and just enough without being too sweet or filling. All in all I was really impressed by the whole experience, and I will definitely be returning for tea and cake very soon.

The Edwardian Tea Room is often described as a best kept secret of Birmingham. That may seem a bit off considering how packed the place can get at lunch and on the weekends. Counting how many locals I've talked to that haven't been here though, I think the description still fits. The Tea Room is located on the northeastern end of the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. The room is a combination of a museum cafe mixed with a bar and sandwich shop. Refurbished several years ago, the Tea Room simply looks great from top to bottom with a mix of modern and antique motifs throughout. The Edwardian Tea Room seems to be where I ultimately end up on days when I have nothing better to do than sit awhile and sip some tea or coffee. Unlike many city centre cafes, staff will not try to rush you off to clear space. There are dozens of tables and booths in the spacious room so that it's typically not too difficult to find a spot. Booths along the walls encourage you to stay with wall outlets for your laptop or phone. Although it's described with 'tea room' in its name, there is so much more. A stout and pilsner are on tap in addition to bottled beverages, espresso drinks are competitively priced for the city centre, and a glass of wine can be had for under £5. A full menu with brunch, mains, salads, sides, and desserts features classic English fare and some interesting twists. Portions are hit or miss, with some titanic and others meager. At £7.50, the 'bhaji burger' comes in a small pita and is a vegetarian delight, but could do with chips as a side. The loose leaf teas are still the main star of the room, with about eight varieties to choose from, arriving in a large ceramic pot for £2.80. If you haven't made it to the Edwardian Tea Room yet, make it a priority next time you're around Victoria Square. It's a near perfect spot for a lunch break or a lazy afternoon.

I can't believe I haven't found this sooner. What a lush, decadent and stylishly designed large Tea room with an impressive glass roof, right in the heart of the Birmingham Museum gallery. Always good to refresh the taste buds after a relaxing walk admiring the art and artefacts in the galleries and conveniently on the way through the museum shop. They have made good use of one if their gallery areas providing a large space with small relaxing areas and booths, lush fabric covered chairs and traditional style high backed chairs and some leather sofas. Located next to the tea room is an interesting play and learning area for children. Lovely cakes and sweet treats to choose from. I ordered smoked salmon and eggs on brioche, a little disappointed with what I ordered and thought it maybe better for £££ The service was slow, but despite that a very nice place for tea and cake.

The Edwardian Tea Room has long been a call in point for me on trips to Birmingham - a chance to meander through the art gallery and then enjoy a nice pot of tea in pretty surroundings. On a visit last week I got a chance to check out the new refit - it has several good points, now boasting an array of different types of seating (sofas and soft chairs as well as just "normal" tables and chairs), and serving a range of teas and delicious cakes. However, I wasn't 100% convinced all the changes were for the best. Pots of tea now come served in ceramic pots - which may reflect the attempts to look "authentic" and give it a quirky Edwardian twist, but in reality look like they've been dug out of the back of someone's cupboard, and get overheated so you can't lift the lid (to give it a stir), before pouring. In addition, although having soft chairs are an improvement, its a shame that the more decorative hard chairs have been replaced by newer, more generic looking ones.

They do have some rather unusual dishes on the menu, including a risotto which doesn't sound too appetising and some strange sandwich fillings - one thing I liked is they did label GF on some menu items, but not on every item which could be modified to be gluten-free, such as the soup. The staff here seemed super friendly, they didn't mind that I come in rather late when they were due to close soon and he just said "I've managed to get the kitchen staff to do something as long as you can decide quickly", which is pretty reasonable. I opted for the soup of the day, and my friend had the same. Mine came with gluten-free bread, which was good. The soup tasted good, it was seasoned well and fresh in a restauraunt with a rather nice atmosphere, it felt like one of those restaurants just modernised by Gordon Ramsay - the breakfast area did look good too but unfortunately, I didn't try it on this occasion. The prices were reasonable, especially when combined with Meerkat Meals which gives you 2-4-1 on food after buying any insurance package with them, which lasts a year - meaning you could buy a £1 one-day travel insurance in the UK and get 241 for a year! Good quality soup and service warrant a three-star rating - I would say the location is too far out compared to Birmingham city centre and it isn't worth coming here unless staying at this hotel or a nearby one, and some of the menu items are a little strange and shows they're trying to be hip in some areas and that just doesn't cater for the masses.

After already having two successful restaurants in Manchester, I was very excited about visiting Bistro 1847 after hearing only good things about it. Set in the beautiful Great Western Arcade, I thought it was strange to open a restaurant here. Especially after 6pm it is the only place open usually! But the atmosphere of the restaurant complements the peacefulness of the arcade. The interior of the Bistro is minimalistic and modern. Being someone who is allergic to Dairy and Wheat intolerant (I know!), Bistro 1847 is one of few places I don't feel weird at. The whole menu is Vegetarian, with dishes that can be adjusted to vegan or gluten free or both in my view. My and my friend were feeling fat so we both went for three courses. I had the curried Swede Cauliflower, Cashew nut butter and cinnamon cornflakes. So many flavours going on in a small parcel was a great choice. For the main I had "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside" (all dishes have these quirky little names!) which is a modern Veggie twist on fish and chips in case you hadn't guessed! I had the vegan version which had two huge pieces of smoked tofu which I really struggled to finish along with the chunky chips! I wasn't defeated and enjoyed all parts of the meal. For desert I had the "Good ol fashioned lover boy" I enjoyed it although I thought maybe the chocolate was a bit over powering as was so much going on. But the jelly was a nice compliment to the richness. The menu contains a large selection of cocktails and deserts for sharing if you and your friends are in search of lots of sweetness. This was my third visit on a Sunday since opening and has been progressively busier each time which is great to see. Bistro 1847 is a very relaxing experience and ideal place for a date or a catch up with a friend. And of course the food is amazing!

There's a large window looking on to the arcade, which is great for watching people come and go. The food was fantastic. It's a fixed price menu, at £19 for two courses, and £25 for three. There's also a pricier tasting menu - the couple sitting next to me had chosen that option, and were really enjoying it. To start, I had the puy lentils, with roasted carrot, spring onions and garlic tofu. The tofu was done as a silky sauce - I'd never had tofu prepared in that way, and I thought it was really delicious. For main course, I chose the bell pepper ragu, with polenta. Again this was superb, with the polenta served as crisp little triangles on top. Both my courses were gluten free, as well as vegan, and their menu is very clear to understand. It feels like the sort of place you can completely trust to get things right. Service was quick and friendly, and there was a nice atmosphere, with other diners just quietly enjoying their meals just as much as I was. I'll definitely be back here next time in Birmingham, and I'll look out for their restaurants in other cities too.

Being on the top and 25th floor of The Cube and Hotel Indigo building, the views are stunning - there is a terrace where you can grab something to eat or drink looking across the whole of the city, or if you prefer to sit inside, the full glass panoramic views give you still a brilliant view of the city which makes it such a great place to grab anything from an alcoholic beverage, meal or even an Afternoon Tea which is £19.95 per person, which is actually cheaper than many hotels - good value! Many of the reviews do mention this place is pricey - it might be in certain areas with some dishes costing £70 but you just have to know what to order - I find the set menu to be really well priced at £20 for 2 courses, and the Afternoon Tea is really reasonable too especially considering the views and quality. The staff here seemed really attentive, constantly checking up to make sure everything was okay to the point I couldn't refuse to pay the service charge as the staff certainly did deserve it - although my general feelings towards adding a service charge is well-known. They were generally happy to modify any dish for me to make it gluten-free which I liked, although I would have liked more of a what to expect and what they'd do rather than having to ask about each dish, in particular, I found this to also be similar with Bardolino downstairs. I've dined at numerous MPW restaurants across many chains - some of them I've found to be pretty hit and miss, most of them, however, was pretty good and this is arguably one of the best amongst them including great locations in the likes of Liverpool and Manchester (Sadly this also includes bad locations in the likes of Leeds and Newcastle), the latter also being a part of this Steakhouse brand meaning they serve the same menu. For my starter, I ordered the tomato soup - this was presented with fresh gluten-free bread, for a starter, it was a huge portion and it was a really well seasoned, good-quality soup - I would have preferred other soups from the menu however but still I don't regret ordering this one. For my main, I opted for the 6 oz steak with pomme frites, the chips again were fresh, tasty and well-seasoned and my steak was seasoned really well, I didn't like how I had to pick between the two extremes of either pink or well-done, as I'm more of a medium well person (slightly pink), but this was down to the size of the steak which still had a coating to ensure it wasn't dry and had great flavour - having to pay around £4 for an extra sauce to go with it was a little much though - I ended up opting for ketchup and honestly the steak didn't need a sauce, it was tasty on its' own in the steak juices. For dessert, I shared ice cream with my friend - the menu didn't state the flavours which would be delivered which I feel for the price they normally charge it should - Madagascan Vanilla with fresh pieces (my favourite) - Chocolate with little chocolate pieces inside (my friend's favour) - Salted caramel (I couldn't fully identify this one!) Regarding the main menu, I would have liked more choice for gluten-free as many of the fish dishes appeared to contain gluten for example. This place is certainly a special place to mark a special occasion or even make a special end to a trip to Birmingham, the latter was the reason I decided to come, and although this location might not have as many promotional offers as other MPW restaurants, including the Liverpool location of the same brand which offers 241 via Meerkat Meals or Tastecard, which is also inside a Hotel Indigo, it still is really worth it in most cases - a big improvement would be to explain the menu and what one should expect in full detail to avoid confusion, including how they'd adapt a dish to be gluten-free because I don't want to talk through every dish with my server etc. A great quality restauraunt by an awesome celebrity chef who even trained Gordon Ramsay and one of his better locations too - which is actually quite hard to achieve on its' own! Stunning views and some really reasonable prices in regards to Afternoon Tea + set menu, really do warrant a strong four-star rating in my books and I will certainly be returning next time I'm in the West Midlands City!

The seating area was a little small, but I still had no problem getting a table straight away ahead of getting a train home to Manchester, and the service was pretty good - this isn't a "travel" location despite it being located in Grand Central which is built into New Street station but it's so close this is a good place to come without travelling too much in the city ahead of a train from Birmingham New Street. The staff seemed really friendly, we had a little chat while he took my order - One thing I liked about the manager often than his friendliness was his communication, he made sure all the staff knew my allergy order was coming through before he'd even taken it, allowing them time to prepare so my food was a little quicker to arrive and still safe for me, knowing it would be gluten-free. My food was good quality - sometimes the chips can be hit and miss from Nando's, but like the chicken, they were cooked and seasoned well. Some of the tables did seem a little awkward, being a small location it can sometimes be difficult to get down from getting into the store to where you have to go to order/get sauces/toilets etc - I did notice an upstairs area, I didn't notice a lift however so I presume these were just the toilets. A very good location of Nando's, even succeeding Nando's standards as well as being their best branch I have visited in Central England and Midlands region, on comparison to branches in the likes of Birmingham Bullring, Stoke on-Trent and Wolverhampton.
