My local on picturesque St Paul's Square on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter. The beautiful view is enough to get you there but then you learn these guys are serious about their coffee. I was there recently and got invited into a tasting, there and there! They were trying some new beans and I was given instructions on the best way to get the flavour. (Unlike wine, we could swallow the coffee). On top of their quest to keep improving what's in my cup, this four year old independent has now started supplying their very own home made cakes. They look gorgeous and taste better. Ask for the lemon cakes!

First time here today. I was attended to very swiftly, was served in good time.Price was reasonable and Coffee was nicely presented. To top it up, the interior decor is a winner for me. Will go again :)

Had to update my review on this one as this place is actually a decent spot to grab a coffee or work. Nice vibe, good coffee and great tunes playing while you enjoy. Situated in the very beautiful setting of St. Paul's square this is one of the best places to get a cup of the dark stuff in the area. Food wise I have only ever had a jacket potato but it was also pretty decent. This is more full you up food rather than pretty little portions but that's always a winner with me. Slight grips are a lack of plugs for laptops although the wifi is good and the £5 minimum charge for card payments. Apart from that this place is a lovely spot for food, drinks and general chill.

I'd love to tell you how extensive the menu is here or how the coffee is made or anything really but the truth is this: I turned up 20 minutes before the instagram meeting that was starting here and had a bottle of coke zero - in a glass bottle with a straw. It was a bendy straw. My friend had a tea that he seeemed rather unsure what to do with and a cake that came on a wall tile. However the staff were VERY friendly and even came outside when we were ready to set off came and took our group photo for us. How lovely.. Of course I tweeted about it so you know. every helpful thing counts. This is a large, bright, airy, coffee house with about plenty of tables and white tiled walls. Next time I'm having a meeting in JQ I'd probably come back and try and soak up the menu to report back here. My Coke Zero was nice though...

Nice cafe opposite the square. Wanted small bite. Interior is nice and comfy seats. Love the view outside of the square. Would've loved to sit outside but was chilly. This place is very cheap, was surprised. Got a panini and drink and came under £5. But...... was not impressed by the panini. Dry and barely any fillings. They need more variety of food on menu. I wanted just chicken cheese panini which they didn't have. They had chicken with something else I can't remember (bad memory) But staff was happy to make me what I wanted. Friendly staff and free wifi (thumbs up) Relaxed place and seems popular. A lot of customers in suits when I was there. Not surprised, cool place to come have a quick bite or small meeting. I'll try something else next time when I got no rush

Even though this little cafe is on my doorstep (figuratively speaking), I never ventured into it's previous incarnation "Saint Caffe". I cannot tell you why this is the case, other than the JQ being a hotbed of lovely little indie coffee places (and being a bit of a stickler for UCC and Brewsmiths). With so much choice, why would I go anywhere else? I was given an excuse when a fellow Yelper started working there and an Elite (Caroline B.) was singing this refurbished venue's praises. It was with high expectation in mind I ventured down there on Friday afternoon for a bit of Admin and Office Hours time. Unfortunately, I cannot compare it to how it was previously (having had no experience of it). I can tell you it's a homely, comfy and friendly little spot located off St Paul's Square. From the moment I walked in I was given a warm welcome and the table I chose was immediately wiped down (even though it was clean already). I was a little torn as to whether to go for a delicious looking fresh salad or some of their homemade soup. To help make up my mind, I was offered a little espresso cup of soup to try before I ordered (only a minor thing, but it made a big difference to my decision). After trying it, I couldn't NOT go for soup; so well played Saint. It was a tomato and red pepper concoction clearly freshly made and filled with flavor (perfect for a rainy freezing cold day in Birmingham). I went for an accompanying filter coffee and was given a lovely blend, with notes of cherry and other fruits, as recommended by the server. I ended up spending a good 4 hours in this venue and watched it get extremely busy over lunch before emptying out at around 3pm. It currently serves food from open to close (it does a breakfast menu and a selection of lunch options), but will shortly be opening a deli to compliment this service. My main complaints are the current lack of WiFi (but this is going to be available from Feb 15th) and no power points for the use of visitors. I would recommend this spot for a coffee or a lunch with friends, but not for a place to work (at the moment). It's certainly another delightful jewel in the JQ's crown.

I absolutely love everything about this cafe! From its location to the fresh and lovely homemade Oreo Cupcake found on it! Everything at Saint Caffee is just inviting! This independent coffee shop is placed in Saint Paul's Square since 2008 and it has the essence of Jewellery Quarter! It's pretty chic without being snobby! I have saved my appetite for having breakfast there today and it couldn't be a better choice, really. Its modern interior design together with art- for sale-on the walls, give a bit of kick to the place. If you are in a hurry, there is always the option of grabbing a sandwiches or a drink to go, but I would recommend to sit and let the hair down for a while this coffee shop. Free wi-fi is available and the staff is really friendly. The Iced cream caramel is an excellent choice for a lovely hot day and their Oreo cupcake was made in heaven. An explosion of flavours for only £1.60!!! Once going too Saint Cafee don't forget to pay attention to the interesting tips on the tiny chalk board placed in each table. They are quite funny ones!

To get over my sunstroke from sitting in St Pauls square too long taking instagram snaps of the church over and over. So the next day I retreated in the shade of Saints Caffe for some r&r. The staff are way too nice here and they love coffee and cakes. Like to the point that if you took coffee and cakes away from then they would fall into a dark place. It's a great thing to see and you learn about coffee and what they do just by reading the cool chalkboard signs dotted around the shop. Because my body is still fried I opted for a cold drink this time, a hazelnut frappe. Was really nice, hit the spot totally. I'm not expert on coffee but this was the best-iced coffee I've ever tired. The menu in diverse and has obviously been crated with a lot of love, lots of specialist coffees both cold and warm, porridge, cookies, soup and baked potatoes all looked nice and were insanely cheap, nothing breaking a £5.00 note. The decor was simple and spaced out, comfy chairs and low tables. A little exhibition/art show was on display next to where I was sitting, prints seemed nice and it was an overall nice touch.

When I first started with Yelp, I threw this question to the masses; "Where is the best tea shop in…read moreBirmingham?". One of the first recommendations I received was the Edwardian Tea Room. Now, I have always known this place existed - but never had a chance to visit. This was finally rectified last week. The Edwardian Tea Room is housed within the fantastic Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (on Victoria Square). You need to head in the building, up the stairs and through the shop and the Buddha exhibit to find it. Decorated beautifully, the tea room really does feel like you've stepped back in time. No music plays in the background, but you can hear the murmur of conversation, the scraping of chairs along the floor and the clanging on trays as the staff clean up the empty tables. The menus are displayed on the wall (rather than individually on tables). You need to head up to the counter and order before you find a table (although if you're in a group, you would do well to bag a table first). The Tea Room (as you would expect) has a large selection of cakes (and tea, of course). A slice of cake and a pot of tea is a bargainous £2.95 - meaning it's a wallet safe alternative to some of the more hipster coffee and tea shops in the centre of town. Again, as previously mentioned, it's very popular with an older crowd due to the prices. However, on my visit their were older visitors, young people and families (who were catching their breath after trekking around the huge museum). I grabbed a herbal tea (£1.60) and took a seat in the large room to do a little bit of work while I enjoyed my hot drink. As well as tea, coffee and cake, there is a varied menu on offer for very reasonable prices. A large fish and chips (with all the trimmings) and a cup of tea was around £7.50. Not too bad, and they offer many other hot options too. Even on my many trips to BMAG, I haven't ever taken the opportunity to visit the Tea Rooms. Following my trip last week, there is a good chance I'll be back JUST TO visit the tea rooms.

As I said, it's completely lovely. It was re-decorated about a year ago, which improved an already lovely space. Mis-matched furniture and big prints of Edwardian ladies sit perfectly in the lovely, big, light room. There are tables for big groups and soft chairs for cosy coffees. I've had a fish finger sandwich here which was nice but nothing to write home about. I've also tried the afternoon tea which was lovely, especially the cakes. It's not a particularly fancy afternoon tea but it makes a lovely lunch. The highlight here is really the space and the atmosphere- definitely worth spending some time in.

I went here with my wife and two friends as part of a yelp event. First off, I should say that I'm an avid meat eater and don't typically go for vegetarian fare. However, Marmalade is the kind of restaurant that makes me want to eat vegetarian (or at least close to it) regularly. As an appetizer I got the coffee infused lamb rump with a prune glaze, sweet potato mash, and edamame beans. It came paired with The Duke of Earl non-alcoholic aperitif which was made with fresh lemon juice, jasmine and peach syrups, and chilled earl grey tea. Both of these were excellent. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the combination of flavors and ingredients was particularly unique. For the main course I got the marmalade garbanzo: chickpea patties served in a Mediterranean stew (with carrots, courgettes, and a couple other veggies) with balsamic glaze. I wasn't sure what to think at first because I thought this meal as a main wouldn't be very filling, but boy was I wrong. It came with three giant chickpea patties (essentially giant falafals) which I almost couldn't finish. They were delicious and were very tasty drenched in the stew sauce, so I powered through. I got the Captain Ahab's Grog, which was recommended with this meal, that consisted of Brugal Dry Spiced Rum, Ginger Preserve, Apricot Liqueur, Plum bitters, and pomegranate juice. This was my favorite beverage of the evening. Additionally, the drink paired particularly well with food and I found myself eating a bite and having a sip immediately afterwards so the flavors would mix. For dessert, I got the coconut panna cotta with pineapple, mint, and chili. Again, there's nothing bad I can say about this. It was delicious. I also got the Eu Te Amo cocktail which consists of Bombay Sapphire gin, Framboise Syrup, lime, and conde villar vegan wine. Now, I don't typically like gin or wine, but despite this I enjoyed this beverage (albeit not as much as the others). Last, but certainly not least, I want to comment on the great customer service we received. Our server, Faye, was attentive, helpful, and just plain nice. I very highly recommend Marmalade and will definitely be back there myself!

I usually don't go into menu details, but it's really worth talking about. We started with the coffee-infused lamb, which was absolutely divine. It was paired with an aperitif of cold earl grey tea with jasmine and peach syrup. For the main course, a vegan dish! A new addition to the menu- the 'Marmalade Garbanzo', which is chickpea patties in a mediterranean stew. So good! And filling!
