First time trying afternoon tea, so I have nothing to compare this experience to. However, I absolutely loved it. Nice views, sandwiches, and pastries. There was a fruity tea that was so refreshing, I usually don't like those types of teas but enjoyed it very much here. It did take awhile to see the wait staff throughout but they were short staffed at the time. Overall, I'd recommend. read more

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Bar & Grill in Birmingham really is something special - it is one of two MPW restaurant in Birmingham, interestingly both of which are located inside The Cube, with Bardolino on the 5th floor, and then all the way up to the 25th floor is Marco Pierre White Steakhouse which is only accessed through the elevators inside Hotel Indigo - I don't have a problem with this as that lift is designed to be fast as climbing 70 meters certainly is tricky and you don't want to be stopping on every floor along the way to getting something to eat. Being on the top and 25th floor of The Cube and Hotel Indigo building, the views are stunning - there is a terrace where you can grab something to eat or drink looking across the whole of the city, or if you prefer to sit inside, the full glass panoramic views give you still a brilliant view of the city which makes it such a great place to grab anything from an alcoholic beverage, meal or even an Afternoon Tea which is £19.95 per person, which is actually cheaper than many hotels - good value! Many of the reviews do mention this place is pricey - it might be in certain areas with some dishes costing £70 but you just have to know what to order - I find the set menu to be really well priced at £20 for 2 courses, and the Afternoon Tea is really reasonable too especially considering the views and quality. The staff here seemed really attentive, constantly checking up to make sure everything was okay to the point I couldn't refuse to pay the service charge as the staff certainly did deserve it - although my general feelings towards adding a service charge is well-known. They were generally happy to modify any dish for me to make it gluten-free which I liked, although I would have liked more of a what to expect and what they'd do rather than having to ask about each dish, in particular, I found this to also be similar with Bardolino downstairs. I've dined at numerous MPW restaurants across many chains - some of them I've found to be pretty hit and miss, most of them, however, was pretty good and this is arguably one of the best amongst them including great locations in the likes of Liverpool and Manchester (Sadly this also includes bad locations in the likes of Leeds and Newcastle), the latter also being a part of this Steakhouse brand meaning they serve the same menu. For my starter, I ordered the tomato soup - this was presented with fresh gluten-free bread, for a starter, it was a huge portion and it was a really well seasoned, good-quality soup - I would have preferred other soups from the menu however but still I don't regret ordering this one. For my main, I opted for the 6 oz steak with pomme frites, the chips again were fresh, tasty and well-seasoned and my steak was seasoned really well, I didn't like how I had to pick between the two extremes of either pink or well-done, as I'm more of a medium well person (slightly pink), but this was down to the size of the steak which still had a coating to ensure it wasn't dry and had great flavour - having to pay around £4 for an extra sauce to go with it was a little much though - I ended up opting for ketchup and honestly the steak didn't need a sauce, it was tasty on its' own in the steak juices. For dessert, I shared ice cream with my friend - the menu didn't state the flavours which would be delivered which I feel for the price they normally charge it should - Madagascan Vanilla with fresh pieces (my favourite) - Chocolate with little chocolate pieces inside (my friend's favour) - Salted caramel (I couldn't fully identify this one!) Regarding the main menu, I would have liked more choice for gluten-free as many of the fish dishes appeared to contain gluten for example. This place is certainly a special place to mark a special occasion or even make a special end to a trip to Birmingham, the latter was the reason I decided to come, and although this location might not have as many promotional offers as other MPW restaurants, including the Liverpool location of the same brand which offers 241 via Meerkat Meals or Tastecard, which is also inside a Hotel Indigo, it still is really worth it in most cases - a big improvement would be to explain the menu and what one should expect in full detail to avoid confusion, including how they'd adapt a dish to be gluten-free because I don't want to talk through every dish with my server etc. A great quality restauraunt by an awesome celebrity chef who even trained Gordon Ramsay and one of his better locations too - which is actually quite hard to achieve on its' own! Stunning views and some really reasonable prices in regards to Afternoon Tea + set menu, really do warrant a strong four-star rating in my books and I will certainly be returning next time I'm in the West Midlands City! read more

Thoroughly disappointing. The only good thing we had was the espresso martini. We ordered a mixed grill and none of the best was cooked as we had asked for and even the pieces of steak were all cooked to different levels of doneness. The flavours were not there and the presentation was simple. The service, although pleasant, was ineffective and slow. We ordered a bottle of wine, had the wrong one delivered ten minutes later, they took it back and ten minutes later still brought another incorrect bottle. We sat with our plates, after we finished our meal, for around thirty minutes. No one checked on us, even though they were working to change the table settings at all the tables around us. They were obviously much more concerned with getting their duties done than serving the customers. It was a pricey meal that was flavourless and poorly executed. Nice view at least! read more

I d been meaning to eat at Marco PIerre s since it opened about 4 years ago but for some reason never made it there! Perhaps it's due to my love of independents...anyway my family from Essex were coming to visit so I thought I d take them to give them some incredible views of Birmingham. I booked through bookatable who I noticed over a lunchtime deal of two courses for £20, 3 for £25 this is a small saving on the usual prices for example one of the mains was £18 usually so you basically get £5 which although isn't bad it's not an amazing deal. We arrived early so grabbed a drink in the bar - I noticed that the cocktail prices had gone up a lot since i first went 4 years ago (average cocktail price £13) so I went for a prosecco. Table service was available but nobody came so we headed to the bar. We were seated at 2.30, I was a little surprised after being told on the telephone we had a window seat that we were actually one row in from the window but it was a nice enough table. We were asked before we were seated if ' we were on a deal' which is fine but surely the table booking system should tell them that. The menu for the lunch time offer we had had 4 options for starter, main and dessert. I decided on kipper pate with whisky toast & a 6oz sirloin steak for main. It bills itself as a steak restaurant so I was really looking forward to a flavoursome steak. We had to flag down a waiter after 20 mins and no one had taken our order and we also had no wine list. Thankfully wine, water & some yummy bread for the table (£3.25) arrived shortly afterwards. The starter arrived, the pate was delicious, no real taste to the toast but it's bread so it was all good! The onion soup was also delicious and not too salty. I was now very excited for my main! The rest of my party had chicken Kiev which looked delicious, succulent chicken & some tasty fries on the side. Quite gastro pub in style but that suited us, we weren't looking for a fancy meal. My steak arrived and despite requesting no garlic due to an allergy it had garlic butter sauce in a ramkin and garlic on the tomato. I raised this and was brought tomatoes to replace it. The steak itself was lacking in flavour, I wouldn't say it was medium rare & tasted more like something you would put on a sandwich rather than deliver as a main. The chips were large cut and delicious & there was some watercress on the plate too. I excused myself after the meal and discussed the service, steak and garlic issue with the maitre d. His explanation was as we had booked a deal I couldn't be expected to have a steak as good as the 8oz on the menu which is £28. I'm not sure that is an argument really! I was quite happy to have a smaller steak but I expected my food to have been cooked and flavoured with care. He offered us free coffees which I decided to take him up on. I went back to my table and once the plates were cleared we ordered 4 lattes. We waiting probably 30 mins + for these lattes to the point where I had to ask twice if our order was forgotten. So indeed the service did not improve. The coffees were well made and were served with brownie on the side. The bill arrived and 20% was taken off for the experience we had which was a nice gesture. I then had to challenge the bill due to garlic butter being added on (again...I have a garlic allergy!) The meal worked out as £44 per couple for two courses, one wine, one beer, some free coffee & the 20% deducted. Would I go back....not a chance. If you re after a steak you d be much better off in andersons or banks or even one of those sizzling pubs where at least there is a bit of flavour. read more

Great for drinks with friends, but my favourite pursuit here is chasing the #brumset. The viewing deck in open in clement weather and affords breathtaking views to the west of Birmingham. Definitely a place to regularly check-in. Looking forward to trying out the restaurant soon. read more

It was my last day in Birmingham so a few cousins of mine took me here for dessert as we'll had just finished our meal elsewhere. When we first approached the cube I have to say that my jaw dropped a tad. The building was like nothing I've ever seen before. It became clear after seeing the new library earlier that Birmingham was becoming quite modern. Now to get to the restaurant we had to take the lift all the way to the top, I have no problem with elevators but if you do its worth the anxiety as the view from the top is one of the best in town. We were greeted at the front desk and taken over the the bar as we'll explained we only had come for drinks and desserts. Unfortunately the outside deck was under renovation so we weren't able to get a table there but the bar sufficed as we still had a great view. At long last Birmingham has a classy, elegant, luxurious venue that is truly breath-taking. Before now, the majority of skyline restaurants that overlook a city were predominantly in London. With this comes the expensive bill but I have a sneaky tip that will ensure you get to experience the glamorous surroundings without spending £100+. When I first heard that the steakhouse had opened, I looked online and the restaurant was fully booked for months in advance already. So when a client of mine arranged an afternoon meeting here, I was more than excited to say the least! I didn't know that you could go in and sit in the lounge area for drinks. We enjoyed a coffee overlooking Birmingham and I was extremely impressed with the sheer quality of the place. I've since found out that they offer a day time food deal where you can have 2 courses for £15 which is a complete bargain. I loved the venue so much that I've booked a table on a Thursday evening (the weekends look booked for the foreseeable future!) to celebrate my Birthday this month. read more

Ended up here after our dinner. I was really surprised and happy to see such a great place to have a drink in Birmingham. We didn't have to wait four deep at the bar for a bartender. We walked right up and ordered our drinks from Michael. Two of our drinks were not on the bar menu and Michael didn't know how to make one of our cocktails but figured it out, took his time and made three perfect cocktails for us to enjoy. Michael was the epitome of service. He cared about his craft and that we were happy and satisfied with each drink. From the view to the music to the service from Michael, everything worked. It's a great view and everything, but I kind of feel like this is somewhere that shouldn't be so expensive for somewhere so sticky. Now it's colder, they've put the cover over the longest length of outside, so you can still sit down out there pleasantly for the view and the sunset, we grabbed our drinks, fine, a little overpriced, and a small cafuffle (is that how one spells cafuffle?) and there was a heap of plates of half finished food (uncultured folk hadn't even put their knives and forks together!) and that was just kind of left there for, must have been about twenty minutes maybe? I kind of think here could be lovely, but the tables are a bit dented, and the chairs a bit stained, and unfortunately a lot of the clientele (not everyone, plenty are lovely) seem to go as a bit of a statement, and just spill and drop their stuff all over the place, and the staff as nice as they are, just seem quite fed up with them and let them get on with it. Going out to nice places isn't about not giving a poop and clicking your fingers at the poor waiter you aren't going to tip because it's more expensive anyway!! read more

Did you know this restaurant has been given ZERO stars for hygiene by Birmingham City Council. Possibly the worth restaurant I have ever been to! I have been four times for food, and every time the experience and service was a nightmare and the food was quality you'd expect from a burger van at a theme park. My first visit was the week the restaurant first opened. Service was 45 minutes at lunch and my steak which I asked to be rare came well cooked and dry. I revisited a couple of months late hoping it may have been a teething problem, I was wrong, it took a college for an important lunch business meeting, service took an hour and the cottage pie I ordered was mostly water with fat floating on the bottom. The other two times I visited the experience was similar. I know Dan who moved from Hotel La Tour to sort MPW out. This guy can turn poor performing restaurant around or create fantastic start-ups. I did hear it did improve while he was there from friends, but my most recent visit it had slipped again and my friends agreed. I have been to the main bar and to events in the champaign bar a lot of times. It is worth visiting for a coffee in the day just for the fantastic views. I love MPW!! Was there earlier in the year, and for my birthday just had to return. I love the Mailbox and The Cube is a welcomed addition to Birmingham's growing skyline and entertainment. As you walk out of the elevator the views across the city draw you to go and have a look out on the roof terrace. It was a beautiful sunny day so the views were spectacular. We had a table booked for lunch at 12.30 and as we took our seats and read through the menu before long the restaurant was full. Our waitress Viktorija was amazing, she was attentative, professional and fun. The children were catered for by half portions off the Ala Carte menu and when the food came it really was delightful. Owned and operated by One of England's world renowned chefs, the restaurant is located in the newly built cube building overlooking the beautiful view of Birmingham. The food was really lovely but the service was disappointing. We were seated 45 min late after having a reservation and the food also took forever. Do you have over £100 plus to spend on fine dining?? If you are an individual with money and love to spend then Marco Pierre White Steakhouse located in The Cube is the place for you. Fortunately, for me I managed to attend a friend's birthday dinner there a month back and it took him about 4 months to actually book the table because that's how oversubscribed/booked it was. I'm not one for spending money I don't have to eat in a posh restaurant; so if it wasn't for my friend's birthday dinner- I personally wouldn't have afforded to fork out lots of money for a meal at this place. It's definitely luxurious and chic. It's there for the rich man or woman who wants to experience elegance to the fullest. Fitted with glamorous interiors, it's got one of the best views the city has to offer. I was impressed by the surroundings and as soon as you walk in, you know you're in a different environment. Thanks to my 'rich' friend who decided to have a lavish birthday celebration. I haven't been to the restaurant, just the bar several times. The bar itself is very spacious, and reasonably well stocked, but it's incredibly expensive. Pints are around £5-6, cocktails a lot more. Single shot and mixers start at £6.50 I believe. Why would anyone want to go to the bar if it's so expensive then? Well, it's on top of The Cube by The Mailbox, and the view is simply stunning! Even if you only go for one drink, it's an amazing place to finish up just to soak up the view and chilled out atmosphere in a wonderfully laid out modern bar with a lot of ambiance. read more

We were told that this was one of Birmingham's best steak restaurants so had high hopes. With steaks started at £30 + we had very high hopes and expectations. Well. Um. Yeah. Look the view is great and the chairs were comfortable and there was some nice live music but for me this place is no more than a very, very over priced pub meal with a nice vista around the city. Firstly, for a large glass of red wine you are looking at £11.00 + and a small one starts somewhere around the £8 mark which would be fine if it was a good wine list but it's pretty average. The beers are all 'big guys' which is sad because there are such great smaller brewers in and around the area and we were too scare to look at the cocktail list. Took us half an hour to be asked if we would like drinks then another half an hour to receive them. The waiter was unsure what a Grenache was. It was the first red wine on the menu. But anyway. The steaks themselves were nicely cooked but presentation wise and sides wise they looked super pubby. Large deep fried onion ring, even larger half roasted tomato (that could have had some more time in the oven) and fat cut chips that needed salt. Some salad bits. The confit tuna panzanella salad was weird. I saw a beautiful basket of sour dough bread come out to another table and envisioned the croutons made out of that and freshly cooked tuna. Instead it kind of tasted like tin tuna with toasted white bread. In the lighting the tuna cubes and bread all looked the same. Also bread is £3.95 extra. When you are paying £30+ for a steak maybe throw in a bread roll for free hey. No steak tartare on the menu but a salmon tartare option as well as a couple of other seafood things. Vegetarians have a salad, an aubergine thing and gnocchi as well as a I think a pasta to choose from. Décor is like a really partied up office floor with very dimmed lights and spaced out chairs and 90's high class patterns. Toilets were similar to that of a nightclub. This classy restaurant is inside the cube building, and as we got in the lift making our way to the top floor I had high expectations. I had booked a table in advance to ensure we had a table for what looked like a busy evening. We were seated at our table promptly, and as we made our way through the dining area I was hoping we would be situated next to the window. We got exactly that - a table overlooking the city and further afield for a 360 degree view. I was expecting the restaurant to be pretensous but it wasn't at all. As it was a special occasion I sipped on a glass of champers whilst pursing the menu. I decided on prawn cocktail for starters which was delightful and my partner had smoked salmon, brown bread with butter which was like a meal in itself! For my main shock horror I had not steak but lamb served with pommedauphinoise. A very tasty dish which was filing. We didn't have any desserts this time round, as we were so full. The waitress was a bit too accommodating for my liking popping over more than necessary, but at least they were attentive. All in all the food was very tasty and there was a good amount of time between courses. The ambience was relaxed and romantic. I would return here again for a drink at the bar or outside on their rooftop seating area when the weather is fine. read more

Go for the panoramic views! You can dine in the restaurant or have a more casual lunch in the bar, both give you access to spectacular vistas across the city and suburbia. We opted to eat in the bar, deli style sandwiches, the chunkiest of fries and two very large glasses of Rioja came to around £45, pricy but you're paying for the view. No complaints about the food, the wine or the service. This place has a smart contemporary decor, feels like a large European hotel. GOD DAMN THOSE STEAKS. But booking s table is a mission in its self. I needed to impress a client that was already angry at me for whatever reason and in the day theres a two for 15 deal going on (on the night its like £14,000000 per dish some say) so we popped in here and it was insane-o crazy. Insides are amazing and the view of smoggy old birmingham is very nice. The Cube in general has a very Fiddlers Green (where the rich go in Land of the Dead to hide from the zombies while the poor live on the outside in poverty waiting to be eaten). Anyways wine is a standard selection and price can be quite high if you want the good stuff, same with anywhere else. If you eat anything but a steak here you crazy. read more

A friends 21st is what led us to MPW's and despite initial reluctance I decided to go along for the ride. I feel that my doubts were understandable, with four 20 something males heading up to what is one of the most reputable restaurants in the city, if not Britain. Despite this, we had planned to head up for a few beers and maybe some chips or something similar. The cube itself is a fantastic piece of architecture, almost acting like the start of an incredible journey. After arriving at the top floor, we were welcomed by one of the most amazing views I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing and without doubt the best I have seen in Birmingham. We were welcomed by a young lady and proceeded on in, straight to the bar. I was genuinely apprehensive over how much by my first round would be, but at just over £12 for four San Miguels, I was pleasantly relieved. The weather that afternoon was favourable, allowing us the opportunity to sit outside, hundreds of feet in the air, with a remarkable view ahead of us. The staff, despite our obvious initial discomfort were more than welcoming whilst retaining their immaculate professionalism, as you would expect in such a up market restaurant. I would definitely recommend MPW's, although it became evident early on that the restaurant was mainly full of business groups and those of a much more formal/mature disposition than ourselves, so perhaps save it for a special occasion or something similar. read more

My wife and I decided to celebreate our 30th anniversary with a special meal at MPW restaurant in Birmingham. The staff were polite and friendly and the food was OK. The service experience was very poor. We both ordered steaks, but the steak knives were not brought to us for a good 2 minutes after the dish was served to the table. (Usually, once a steak is ordered, the knives are exchanged before the meal arrives.) . My wife ordered a side order which didn't appear until a good 5 minutes after her main dish. However, the worst scenario was that I was given a glass of Rioja that had a dead fly in it. I reported it to the staff and a 2nd glass was brought to me. After a number of sips, I then realised this glass also had a dead fly in it. On the 3rd attempt, the head of service opened a fresh bottle in front of me and this was fine. They did remove the wine from the bill but there was no formal apology. I decided to write to them to reflect on my observation. In fact I've written twice and phoned once. The management have not bothered to reply. They clearly do not consider customer service to be part of the customer experience...even a considered reply with an apology would be nice but for the management to simply ignore my articulate and observational feedback is simply unnacceptable. People, save your money....this restaurant is a glorified steakhouse and you'd get better service at Pizza hut....and I can't believe I just said that. read more

The atmosphere is like being in a (fairly rough) night club and the food is basic to say the least. Absolutely terrible service took over an hour to get dessert there was a bottle top in the soup food not up to the standard. if your looking for fine dining I'd recommend bank in Brindley place much better food and service which is why you go to a restaurant read more

Visited yesterday for a very special occasion (wedding lunch) the service was dreadful. The platter shared starter came without King prawns not niticed by the kitchen or waitress staff. The sides ordered with the T-bone and sirloin were wrong! No peas but onion rings that weren't ordered?? The steaks weren't cooked as requested and were quite bland and didn't suggest they were matured The delay in waiting for coffee meant we just asked for the bill! I spoke with the manager Daniel there was absolutely no remorse /acknowledgement or apology. The restaurant wasn't busy either ! £370 later for 6 people at lunch time an absolute disgrace ! I was really looking forward to my evening here with family but I was so disappointed....I've been in a lot of restaurants all over the United States and Europe and never have I ever ordered a bottle of wine where I had to pour it myself, Let alone open it myself....my Mum and I ordered steaks which they mixed up.. so had to swap, mine was cold but usually the waiter/waitress would ask you to cut into it to see if it was cooked to your likeness... Well that never happened and wasn't cooked to my liking.... The waiter never came back to see if we needed more drinks, two people in the company had nothing ... We had to ask for dessert menu's ... after trying to get the waiters attention for a long time, When we did eventually get dessert we got no spoons/ forks and the dessert was the most boring, plain and no effort in how it was plated I've ever seen for the class of restaurant it claims to be..... I took my Family there about 2 yrs ago I did mean to write a review, From the moment we arrived there the staff were wonderful very helpful they knew how to treat guests from the moment you walked in. We were shown to our table it was full so there was a very good buzz there, We ordered our food in the mean time the waiter couldn't do enough for our table, The food arrived wow is all I can say it look so good I didn't want to eat it, the hole meal and our table loved it, it was well presented cooked just right plenty and well it just what you'd expect from a Michelin star restaurant if not it should be and deserts were just to die for, The wine list was super cool for those who drank wine at the table loved it great selection of wines, even my 2year old loved it and got to sit in the big chair, Over all this is how a restaurant should be like Warm friendly top food and wine and it was value for money even all 10 of us, I paid hahaha but no thank you all very much for your hospitality and your service it a great place to bring your family or just for dinner lunch, I will be back that you can count on and recommend to everyone I speak to well done again and big thank you from the Fitzgerald family. read more
