A previous visit to the Registry office closest to my home in Stony Plain was an effort in futility. The line was moderate when I arrived and I had to wait for a bit. There was a sign posted explaining they were short staff due to summer holidays. I'm glad I got there after the lunch rush and not near the end of the month. When I got to the front of the line I realized I was dealing with the Manager. Shanon was very friendly, she understood EXACTLY what I was looking for and was very eager to help. It is indeed a pleasure to deal with a business that understand the needs of their customer. (Possibly even better than I did.) The only thing I would change is the number of people available to help customers. But this is Alberta in the summer which makes this a difficult task. The time Shanon spent with me along with her knowledge and patience pretty much ensures that my future Registry business will be done here.

This building was built in the 1980s and includes some great space for use by various groups. My…read moreKiwanis club rents the upstairs lounge once a year to host the Buy Nothing Day Free Market in November for example. A pottery group rents the hall upstairs for their events. Helen is the wonderful woman who takes care of the building and she is wonderful. If she's unavailable or has to step out she'll leave contact information for someone more local to the hall in case you need anything. Helen is good at making sure that snow is cleared from walkways etc. as best as can be as quickly as possible given a major snowstorm. The hall is a little bit difficult to access if you're unfamiliar with it, but it has ample free parking, is close to transit and major roadways and is within walking distance of many facilities in the Old Strathcona area. I'm really fond of some of the more recent upgrades to the upstairs lounge: the improved lighting makes it much more of a wonderful area to host events, for example.

Walking in the front doors, there's a foyer area with a few tables set up for registration. There was a couch there too. The water fountain and washrooms were just down the hall. The washroom was clean and had 5 or 6 stalls. The venue was very large and there was room between us for dancing. The stage was great as we could see the instructors, even being farther back and lots of people could fit on the stage too. With the lights dimmed, it was fun to have the glow and dark effect. The theme was 80s so the neon colours really stood out. They had a few chairs on the side and lots of space to put our belongings. It was a fun event and a great venue for it.

Edmonton is the capital of the province of Alberta so the Legislature Building is located here…read more This is where the Legislative Assembly and the Executive Council meet for an assembly or session to discuss law and ordinances. I do come here not for that, but to rather admire the beautiful architecture and stunning grounds here. Located next to the North Saskatchewan River, you can see the magnificent dome from afar. No one can deny the amazing architecture done here. Everyone marvels around the marble pillars and all other fixtures made of either mahogany, oak or brass. The Legislature grounds is also an ideal place for friends and families. I've actually witnessed so many wedding pictorials held in here in the past and remains a favorite spot. With a beautiful landscape, grassy areas, colorful flowers, and benches under beautifully lined trees, this is a nice place to hold a picnic, play some board or ball games, read a book, or simply hang around daytime or even night time. One outstanding feature of the Legislature grounds is the huge fountain in front of the building where people can either swim or dip toes in the pool during summer months. The same pool freezes during winter months and turns into a skating rink so grab your skates on. Spare extra time to join a free guided tour but make sure to register in advance online. This is something I need to do on my next visit because I heard they have a brand new visitor center with different galleries and state-of-the-art 4-D theatre where you can actually feel the snow and wind on your face.
