i have a b&b right above my condo and couple weeks ago i have have the edmonton police respond to the b&b two nights in a roll cause of a women crying and screaming and the condo management wouldnt even come see if there was serious problem or even call me back. i dont agree with putting people in juperty so someone can make profits. if i had children living i would move out just dont think its safety when you dont know who they are or most itwss just a place to party so there own people is not disrupted. these people set up these homes to just serve thereselfs and run the whole thing there way. thank you read more

If you are looking for a really good law firm OVIATTE LAW, 401-10408 124 St NW, Edmonton AB T5N 1R5, Canada, would not be a good choice. Mr. Oviatte is a very nice young man, however, neither him or his staff are very competent at what they do. He was a very good talker and could always talk me into believing that there were reasons for what he did, however, he just could not get anything done. When he felt he had charged enough to keep his office open he basically said "well perhaps you should hire another law firm". If you have more money than you know what to do with and just need someone to talk with, this young man is your guy. If, however, you actually want something done I would suggest you hire someone other than this young man and his firm. read more

I absolutely love the BBB. This is such a great honest company unlike Yelp. This is what I rated Yelp on the BBB and the BBB even had a Warning about them. I wanted my business account closed as Yelp doesn't allow me to edit or update my own business profile page, they treat me as if I was beneath their feet, as if I don't matter. Yelp has treated me like they own me and my business, after talking with Yelp several times nothing changed as a matter a fact the staff has told me to get lost we own your business through Yelp and not to call them again. The way Yelp has stripped me of my rights as a business owner sickens me. Yelp has done a good job in making me feel like a prisoner to them. I can't even explain to you the amount of days that they have made me cry my eyes out. Only a sinister company treats people the way they do. Yelp is the reason why I don't trust companies anyone. The Better Business Bureau is not what it used to be, and no longer evaluates or considers bad reviews or complaints by consumers attempting to warn possible customers about a business when awarding a great rating, which enables a business to keep over-charging and ripping off customers---even if the local police consider it to be a crime in progress if they see that contractor's service vehicle in your driveway, or that company was even featured in a television fraud report. Some companies spend more time and money blocking bad reviews, as opposed to simply returning over-charges, or going back to remedy the issue. You should always get referrals from people you trust. The Edmonton BBB does an excellent job if you file a complaint; they attempt to contact the business on multiple occasions, and are really timely with follow up and e-mails to you. Unfortunately their weakest point is that their search engine has a very difficult time finding many businesses that I want to write a good review on, or finding a business that I need to file a complaint about. read more

The BBB has now set up a Consumer Review section. You are able to provide a review, positive or negative, once you are confirmed as a customer. This may assist others rather than making a complaint. The businesses cannot respond to the review, so you cannot be harassed for it (they don't use your last name but the business is given that information so they can confirm if you are indeed a customer). The BBB also only lists complaints in the last three years, others prior to that are not shown. Businesses can respond to complaints, and they have a right to, but there is usually no satisfaction to the customer. I have personally complained to the BBB, asking only for an apology, received that apology via a telephone call, but the business posted information after I had received the apology (from the owner). So, yes, the BBB does not represent the consumer as you are not paying to be "accredited", however, they do drop the rating after they receive complaints and the complaints are unresolved (which is very rare, the customer is usually "unsatisfied"). I agree, it is best to do your due diligence and research any business you are planning to use. The internet is a wonderful tool. Well, at least here I am not going to be noting anything perhaps that hasn't been...or ?? I will not repeat what Kerry D. indicated in his 3/18/2013 review because he has noted this aspect of this organization quite well. In my case, it is VERY obvious that the organization is siding with the company about which I had written. The tone of their "mediation" is very much in their regard down to indicating that it is my fault for the scheduling issues. The other matter is that once a matter is "resolved", that is, you, the consumer are finally at a point where you feel you cannot do anything else (besides go to small claims court) but agree to the terms outlined by the company, they instantly close the file, never following up if the work has really been done, the resolution really executed. They DON'T. As the other people having rated this organization which I once really appreciated note, it has turned into a cliche of individuals related to the businesses that it purports to help consumers (and businesses) to keep in check so that we can all be protected against shoddy work, fraudsters and the like. In the end, it is an organization that happily moves forward without teeth and like the Emperor, with no clothes....and unfortunately, people like me, actually followed the parade....NOT anymore and I sincerely encourage anyone reading this to not use the BBB for ANYTHING. Get the references from people and go on other sites to get reviews if you need them....ask for references and contact those people...and yes, GOOGLE them (because Google too has a review board and if I had know this early on, I would have NOT hired the company I did based on what I did find out later). read more

Motion Specialties - We had this company install our son's stairlift several years ago and have had them service the stairlift throughout the years. For the past several years we have been having a lot of problems with the stairlift not charging. 3 years ago Motion Specialties replaced the battery on the stairlift and that is when the problems began. We called them recently as the stairlift just would not charge--their wait time was 2 1/2 weeks. Our son is disabled and needs the stairlift to get to appointments, so we called another service company. They came within 3 hours and said the stairlift had the wrong battery. I looked up the invoice from when the battery was installed and called Motion Specialties to complain--I asked to speak to the Service Manager, he never called back. I then sent an e-mail, still no response. i sent them a letter via Canada Post including the invoice for the battery. The letter was returned and their address crossed out. They must have just put it back in the mail. i would not recommend this company for any service for the disabled. I have used them for my son's power wheel chair and have given them lots of business throughout the past 15 years. read more

The first thing that you should realize is that the BBB is funded by the very people they are supposed to be rating. Think about this: If someone pays for your salary, your office and that new computer, are you going to give them anything other than a good rating? I thought not. They also claim to have a complaint procedure that's really there to stand behind the guy who's paying their shot, not help the customer who has a complaint. The BBB changed their business structure and rating system in 2009 and the old honest BBB rating system does not exist any longer. Under the BBB's new system if a business wants to be on the same level playing field as a BBB member the only way they can do it is to pay money and become a BBB member. (Pay-up.) the better business bureau is strictly for the businesses that support them not for the consumer, I had a roof done by mile high roofing and; it leaked two years in a row the company would not call back, so I had a roof inspector look at it and then hired him to repair the roof which cost a fair bit, the I put in a complaint with the better business burearu (I was told not to bother with the BBB as they are only for the business that purchase spots with them not for the consumer that they always side for the business and foolishly I did think that was true.) boy was I wrong. What I didn't know until now, as others have said, is that the BBB is paid by the company that they PROTECT! I say protect, as they are not on the side of the consumer if the complaint is from a business who pays them. They worm out of it by taking whatever the business tells them as 'truth', and totally ignore and twist all the evidence presented by the consumer. The Better Business Bureau used to advocate for the consumer that was mistreated by a business - NOT ANYMORE! They should be ashamed to even go by the name The Better Business Bureau...a more fitting name would be The Business A** Kissers...! I had a double hole drilled in my floor by an appliance store incorrectly when installing my water line - instead of replacing my now damaged floor, they told me to patch it up by inserting sawdust and tape, or to put a patch over it! I would like to see if they would do this if it was their floor that I had damaged. They have insurance for these types of mistakes, but instead of own up to their error and make it right, they refused to. I contacted the BBB and they were of no help, and in fact had such a snotty tone, like I was the one at fault. Totally unacceptable. They then closed off the case without even so much as an actual conversation. Thanks BBB for nothing - I would never use this service again and neither should you. read more

My BBB complaint was closed on the promise of a refund by their negligent member upon my signing a concocted 'release' for the amount of the professional fee paid to him for a home inspection report that was inaccurate and faulty....no 'release' ever came from him and NO refund. BBB closed their file and upon my making them aware that I was forced to litigate against the negligent BBB member, they closed this complaint from view of anyone else who may be considering this particular member's services. My personal experience with BBB about my complaint involving their member was not resolved as they posted online publicly, and in my opinion based on my personal experience, because any business can join and thereby pay the BBB, staff salaries, office space, etc. is dependent upon members--lousy ones or otherwise. In my case, they even removed my complaint from any view online and erroneously and unbelievably restored the A+ rating of a member who is undeserving of same.....to be a BBB member has shown me that all it means is that a business pays a fee to have their protection---and it is of no value to any consumer that their intended business is with the BBB since all they care about is retaining membership and collecting dues--irrespective of how professional or not the BBB member in question is. In my opinion, they could not care less about making things right for the wronged consumer----the only goal appears to be to keep the negligent member as part of their 'club.' It seems to me that being a BBB member means literally anyone able to pay their club fee can join----my experience has led me to realize there is NO protection to the public whatsoever and complaint system is USELESS AND A BAD JOKE. read more
