I knew we didn't have the tools to figure it out alone and I am SO, SO glad Jack was there to help! As another reviewer stated, this approach takes patience and WORK. It's training the humans more than the dog ;) It is really, really hard to not compromise when you're in a hurry or getting angry but it is SO worthwhile. Since we started working with Jack 2 months ago, we've gone from an anxious, jumpy, constantly pulling puppy to a dog who walks calmly on a loose leash, waits when asked, and is getting better and better at her off leash skills. I can't thank Jack enough for setting us up for a lifetime of respect, love, and fun with our dog!

So, we just stopped taking her. And, after a very bad reaction to a dog on our walk, where she redirected on me, I would get scared any time we saw a dog when we were out walking and did my best to just avoid dogs altogether. We finally decided we couldn't fix Stella on our own and we decided to take her to Black Paw Dog Training. The training we ALL received has changed our lives! Since her graduation, we have enjoyed Saturday pack walks with other graduates and Stella has done great, walking side by side with other dogs, passing dogs out on the trail and staying in a perfect heel. I never thought it could be possible. She plays ball in a neighborhood park and has perfect recall. And our walks and ball playing in the neighborhood are totally different. She can pass dogs on the trail and just walk on by without losing her mind. And taking her with us to stores is now a fun outing. No more whining. No more pulling. Just a well-behaved pup. Bernadette and Cecilia have opened up a whole new world for us that we never thought was possible. We cannot thank Black Paw Dog Training or recommend them highly enough.

I wrote Carly that my dog was dog and people aggressive and I was worried to come in. Once you meet Carly and come to class you will very quickly understand that any dog is welcome. She works with them all. And yes, she is a hard ass, but it is refreshing, because she is equally so kind and generous. High Drive saves lives and invites us all to have more ease with our lives too, not out of ignorance but because her training truly is empowering, grounding, and one of a kind. Our pup is now in advanced training, and our dog walks off leash, heals, can recall from a football field away, and is the most loving and easy going pup I have ever had. I 100% recommend.

I took a class last winter, hopefully this teacher is no longer there. She was young. I was not…read moreimpressed because she wasn't focused on her students. I should have asked for my money back. She often rushed through things. She didn't have an awareness of how to teach human adults, by saying something , show something, say it again in a different way, show it again slowly. She said it once, showed it quickly then expected us to do it. She would show something, then have us go do it while she talked with her friends she brought in. She didn't pay attention to her students. She only offered help when I was struggling if I asked for her help, she didn't notice when people were struggling. She was stern and not approachable. She said she had lots of experience training. Perhaps that was true but she needs to work on people skills to be a group dog trainer. This intro class was designed to rush us through a program of a bunch of different things every time so that maybe we felt we learned a lot and got our moneys worth, rather than make sure we had important things down really well. The instructor said that after we finished the class we could come in for open play. I called and left a message about this twice but no one called me back. The place was freezing cold in the winter and smelly. I've heard other people like this place, but I won't go back. I also read the review about a woman abusing a dog here and people being rude. Big fat NO.

As soon as they turned so did he....fear aggression in the extreme. I was heart broken, I saw no solution but to put him down. A friend of mine gave me Johns pamphlet. A totally different approach...learning to understand my dog as he was, not as I thought he should be ( Lassie a la Disney). After 2 years of patient dedicated training ( mostly of me), and a change of diet, Keshet consented to work with humans...and warn before he bit. He lived to be 15.5 years old, a character every moment of his life. Had it not been for John I would never have had the great joy of this dogs presence in my life. A year ago I adopted a rescue . She is just as anxious, and to my relief, not aggressive. I have done what John taught me again. She has blossomed into a sweet girl. Her PTSD and anxiety is getting better, day by day. She respects me and knows she is safe. Without speaking "dog" I doubt she would have come around. Learning what John and Diane have to offer is the best thing you could possibly do for the members of the canine species. Dogs don't understand human thinking....they operate differently. Once you can behave in a way they understand you will truly have a solid relationship with your dog, and any others that may come along in the future.

My very anxious, traumatized dog got groomed here a number of times. Each time, she would be there…read morefor up to six hours. I learned from a past PetSmart groomer that the dogs spend most of their times in cages, especially the scared ones. Whenever my dog got anxious or reactive, she was put in a cage. This is completely unfair because she is anxious- that doesn't mean she shouldn't get the same care as "typical" dogs. My dog would leave exhausted and seemingly depressed the rest of the day after I picked her up. Lastly, for all the appointments she had there, they were charging me with a "special needs care fee" without telling me or allowing me to see the receipt. This was an extra $15 or $20 that I did not know about. The groomer (a non-licensed veterinary professional) told me my dog needs stronger medication if she's going to keep coming there. My dog now does mobile grooming where she is never in a cage, is treated normally and leaves in a good mood. I do not recommend this grooming place at all. If you love your dog, find someplace else.
