We hired EcoHandyman to install a radon mitigation system, new crawlspace vapor barrier, and insulation in our home's crawlspace. Overall, we had a very positive experience and would recommend their services. EcoHandyman was the most expensive of the bids we received, but we felt the quality materials and work justified the price for our primary residence. They used a thick 12 mil crawlspace vapor barrier, reinforced to 15 mil under stored items, exceeding the flimsier 6 mil plastic typically used by cheaper contractors. The radon system components were high quality and installed properly for energy efficiency and performance. Throughout the project, communication was clear and all crew members conducted themselves professionally in our home. They kept us informed during each step and were thoughtful about protecting our space during the messy crawlspace work. Most importantly, the crawlspace improvements have drastically reduced winter radon levels from over 8 pCi/L to around 1 pCi/L now. The vapor barrier and added insulation also seem to make the floor noticeably warmer this winter. The overall experience gives us confidence that the work was done right. While the price was high, we felt it was fair for the quality and expertise. For any major crawlspace or radon work needed in the future, EcoHandyman will be at the top of our list to call again. read more

Staff did an excellent job laying the mitigation plastic in a very tight and difficult dirt crawl space. Radon is now significantly lower. Thanks guys! Dave read more

We have used Eco Handyman, run by Nate Burger, several times and have been very satisfied each time. In 2010, we had them upgrade the insulation in our attic with cellulose (treated newspaper shreds), and do various upgrades to seal our home for better insulation. In 2014, we had them install an evaporative cooler to cool the house in the summer with much less electricity than air conditioning. In both cases, they were very responsive to issues that developed years later, and fixed them or assisted us free of charge. In 2022, they fixed and upgraded our broken radon mitigation system. And a week ago (January 2023), we had them add even more cellulose insulation in the attic, and upgrade our wall insulation with dense packed cellulose. The latter involved removing one piece of wood siding for each section around the house, drilling a hole between each stud, and using a high pressure hose to pack the cellulose between the exterior wall and the drywall. This eliminates air flow, and keeps the interior walls insulated. The original fiberglass batts were not removed. We were very nervous about the possibility of the old wood siding cracking during the removal process, but they did the whole job and reinstalled the siding with no issues. We highly recommend EcoHandyman! read more

Eco Handyman was prompt and professional. They fixed our existing radon mitigation system in a way that left us feeling more confident in the system, that improved the aesthetics, and that brought us up to code compliance. The cost was quite reasonable for the services rendered, especially considering the quality of the work. Highly recommended! read more

I needed my insulation replaced due to the Marshall fire. I hired Eco Handyman for the job and it was a great experience throughout. The price was reasonable, the crew was friendly, professional and clearly committed to doing a good job. Everyone I dealt with at Eco Handyman made this a stress-free experience. I will definitely hire them again for anything I can. read more

Our master bedroom, located above the garage, was miserable during the summer, and we eventually decided to replace the insulation. We contacted Eco Handyman to have some new stuffing blown in so we could sleep at night without the sauna effect. The crew showed up when they said they would, checked vents and ductwork so they would know where to drill, and were quite friendly and courteous. They also advised us on other areas where heat and cold could creep in, since insulation settles quite a bit over the years. It took about three or four hours altogether. The difference the new insulation has made in the bedroom's summertime temperature is remarkable, and we're quite glad we found someone who could come out so quickly. read more

These guys absolutely CRUSHED IT! I cannot recommend Nate and his crew highly enough. Professional, through, considerate--everything you want in a contractor. A+ read more

They seemed very nice. Upon getting other bids, however, their price was almost twice as high as similar businesses. We opted for a different business and were very happy with the services provided. I highly recommend getting a second or third bid before going with this business. They may do high quality work but in a town of qualified providers, you don't have to pay nearly as much as they are charging. read more

My landlord hired eco handyman several times while I was renting. Their work was always half-assed and incomplete. I will mention that I never complained because I wan't paying for it and it wasn't my place so I'm not sure if they would stand behind their work or not. First notable incident: they came to re-caulk the shower and fix the shower knob. They told me that the black mold on the caulk on only one side of the shower was just "brown caulk" and not mold. What a joke. They then removed it and did not re-caulk it for two weeks. They also put the shower knob on backwards, a minor detail, but I'd prefer someone that pays attention to the little things. Second notable incident: they installed laminate flooring in the entire apartment. They took so many shortcuts it was unbelievable. Staggered the planks correctly for the whole house and then decided to put them in line with each other for the hallway. Again, a seemingly small thing that when you live with it, makes a big difference. It looked so bad. Many were crooked with big gaps in between. I would never hire these guys to work on my own home. Ever. read more

Eco Handyman did a great job on several fairly large projects, including sealing and increasing depth of insulation in our attic, installing a vapor barrier in our crawlspace and radon mitigation, and insulating my garage. They were punctual and professional, and they worked around my constraints. I'm surprised by the comment by one of the other reviewers about Nate acting annoyed by questions. In my experience he was patient and knowledgeable. read more

There is no question that Nate is a qualified professional for all jobs related to energy. He's very knowledgable and when he came out to estimate my job, it was clear that he was passionate about energy. I didn't accept his bid, primarily due to him not being available to do the job for a month. When I sent him a message telling him I had taken another offer, he responded with an email trying to discredit the company that I did go with (even though he didn't know which company it was). Although I'm sure he would have done a great job, he's not the kind of contractor I want to do business with. read more

Eco Handyman was great to work with. Nate was very knowledgeable, professional, and personable. The installation went flawlessly. We were able to reduce our radon levels significantly, and have the peace of mind of knowing our home has low levels of toxic radon. We had a great experience with them. read more

Nate and his team are professional, courteous and really nice. I had him in to replace all my windows because they were so drafty. He talked me out of it and instead sealed and fixed them which saved me a bundle. His team was also knew about all kinds of rebates which gave us money back on the repairs we wanted to do. I would highly recommend EcoHandyman to everyone! read more

Nate and his wonderful team at Eco Handyman has been performing major work projects at my home for more than 10 years. His attention to derail and his string sense of family and community as well as the broad spectrum of homes in Boulder is unsurpassed by none. Eco Handyman does impeccable work. He got my home upgraded to Energy Star rating level. Plus, nate is just an awesome guy. All property owners need to know Nate and Eco Handyman. read more

I contacted EcoHandyman after looking around for someone to fix a noisy vent in my bathroom. Their rates were very fair, and they were able to schedule someone to come out right away. Another company I contacted wanted double the price and it was going to take twice as long. Elaine was super responsive and pleasant to work with. The handyman was pleasant and fast. Highly recommended. read more

We had a radon mitigation system installed by Eco Handyman. I compared quotes from two other installers and while Eco Handyman was a bit more, they offered a better solution in my opinion. Nate spent a lot of time with us, explained that we could not just reduce radon levels to the EPA recommended level but get far below that. And he was right. We went from 7.9 pCi/L to 0.9 pCi/L. Thank you! read more

I first used EcoHandyman a couple of years ago to insulate my house. The were efficient and cleaned up nicely after themselves. I was able to get some money back from Xcel and the folks from EcoHandyman helped me with all of the paperwork which was an added bonus. Afterwards, my house was so much more comfortable and my bills went down considerably. Since then, I have used EcoHandyman off and on for little jobs like leaky faucets and doors that won't shut and have always been pleased. The work is always done well the first time and the workers are always pleasant and professional. I was so happy with them that I recently had them remodel my kitchen and bathroom and I am very happy with the finished product. Again everyone was so friendly and professional, the work was done on time (which is important for things like kitchens and bathrooms) and the whole experience was actually pleasant (I was dreading it). I no longer cringe when something breaks because of EcoHandyman! read more

Note: This is the exact some review I wrote using Google reviews. I loved the work these guys did so much that I wanted to make sure they got plenty of credit for it! What can I say but that I'm thoroughly impressed with Eco Handyman in every way. They did a very thorough and high-quality job. My wife and I are expecting our first child in July and had planned to use one of the rooms above the garage as the nursery. Unfortunately, the rooms above our garage were very cold, which led us to pursue an energy audit to see what could be done about it. The audit revealed that the insulation in the garage ceiling had fallen down and left a gap between the ceiling and the floor of the rooms above. On reference from a friend, I decided to get a quote for this work, as well as conditioning our crawlspace, from Eco Handyman. They were able to come out very quickly and we got the quote within a few days. The price seemed reasonable so we decided to go with them. This was a great decision! They were able to schedule us very quickly. They showed up with two crews: one for the garage and one for the crawlspace. The crews communicated with us in terms of what they were going to be doing, and they wore shoe covers or took off their shoes when in the house. They were very focused on their work and finished by around 3 PM. After they finished, their work was quality checked by the guy who gave me the estimate. Then, they helped me to enroll in Boulder County's Energy Smart program so I could take advantage of rebates for the upgrades. Eco Handyman was very responsive with all the paperwork required. When we had the post-work CAZ testing done, it was revealed that our air leakage was improved enough for a rebate through Xcel Energy as well. They were very helpful with this rebate and worked with Energy Smart to quickly process it. Plus, the guy who did the CAZ testing also did a quality check on request from Eco Handyman. The rooms above the crawlspace now feel much warmer than they did before, and the living room above our crawlspace is not as cold as it used to be. I personally follow the philosophy that it's more cost-effective in the long run to have work done right the first time, and Eco Handyman certainly embodies this principle. They will give you an itemized, easy-to-understand estimate of all the work to be done, and can even help you to choose those things which will produce the best return on investment. I would gladly use them again anytime, but unfortunately they did such a good job improving our home's efficiency that I don't know what else there would be to do. read more

If you're ever looking to hire a general contractor I would highly recommend finding someone other than Doug Edelfelt and Eco Handyman. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional company in my life. I had Doug come out to give me a quote on a small deck project and he over estimated the number of hours. He asked for a 50% deposit and when I questioned the quote he responded by saying he would come out to quote again. After not showing up on 3 separate occasions (without even the courtesy) of telling me he wasn't going to show) he proceeds to tell me that he doesn't have time for the project any longer and that he is too busy. This company should not be too busy because nobody should hire him unless you like to have your time wasted and/or a project that never gets finished. Sincerely Steven R. Boulder, CO read more

Dave Rohr, their drywall guy, showed up on time, did a great job and was efficient. I wish all home improvement was so easy.

Eco Handyman has the potential to do well but at the moment they seem to be too busy. They are running from job to job and at least in my case they aren't getting the job done well. Their work was sloppy and they don't seem to have time to pick up after themselves. The owner/GC even had the temerity to imply that in time I'll get used to the quality of the workmanship and forget about it. In the end we got the job done but it could have been better. Oh well, it's an old house and it's warmer now and as they said - in time we'll get used to the quality of the finish. read more

I was primed to like Eco Handyman, as the company is owned by a friend of a friend. I called E.H. to repair a garbage disposal. The repair was competent and the repairman seemed very nice. But there wasn't anything "eco" about the process--the repairman left at one point to run to Home Depot (Home Depot galvanizes the anti-environment Republicans through major donations) to pick up several parts, including a new disposal. Admittedly, I'm something of a novice when it comes to hiring repair services - a more seasoned friend told me that I ended up paying twice what such a repair/replacement might have cost. So far as I can tell, the "Eco" in "Eco Handyman" just translates to a higher price tag. read more

First they didn't show up the day they said, then charged $335.00 to replace an outside faucet. Not Happy.

I needed a quote for some repair work and had a guy from Eco Handyman come out on Thursday 8/7. He seemed totally uninterested, didn't have a notepad, did not measure anything, and did not take pictures. Monday I called about my quote and was told I would get it the next day. On Thursday, a full week after the visit, I called to tell them don't bother sending the quote. The lady on the phone was completely unapologetic and said okay like it was no big thing. Clearly they are not interested in new clients. Don't waste your time. read more

I was recommended Eco Handy man for a few remodel items in the house, including tiling the bathrooms and kitchen. My husband and I were going over the estimate, and as soon as we started to ask for precise numbers on cost, Nate acted annoyed by our questions. He wanted to know if "we were serious" before going into any detail. For instance, he gave us an estimate for a solar tube in one bathroom, but didn't want to give us an estimate on the second bathroom (which was a different situation due to the attic) until we were ready to go forward with other remodeling. He wouldn't give us ball park figures on materials. He actually said, "some people just want to mine me for information." Does getting a complete estimate qualify as "mining for information?" It seemed like before he got halfway through the estimate, he had come to his own conclusion about what we were worth, whether or not it was true. He said, "I have customers who buy such high end materials that my labor cost is a rounding error." He didn't want to spend any more time with us. Do most people not want to know how much they are going to spend on a project ahead of time? Are you expected to sign a blank check? Perhaps it is not worth their time or energy unless they are doing huge remodel jobs of $30,000. I can't hire someone if the relationship starts with bad communication. Regardless of the size of the job, you need to treat people as human beings, not just dollar signs. read more

I received 3 bids for energy upgrades to my vacation home in Boulder CO. This company stated they would need a separate electrical inspection to accurately determine the amount of work and costs. I agreed. They appeared honest and knowledgeable and I subsequently signed a contract with a 50% deposit. Nearly a month later they came to start the work but I was informed the electrical might be 3x the amount in the contract because of additional work. What was the separate inspection for? They refused to honor the contract, refused to consider a compromise of shared additional expense, and terminated[breached] the contract. I am awaiting the return of my deposit.I will now need to expend considerable time and expense [a trip from my primary home in Va.] to start the process again. I have also forfeited some rebates due to expiration of those offers. They talk a good game, but demonstrate little integrity and chose the easiest way out at my expense. Be careful as appearances can be deceiving. read more
