Stay away from doing simple caulking... I had them do some work last May and the gentleman who did the work could not have been nicer. I believed the work to be good but some simple caulking came un-done after on five or six months. They originally wanted photos which was curious since I do not want someone doing work in my house when there is none to be done. When I called to have them re-do it they also balked on doing any caulking. Moving on to a more qualified source. Again, Bob was a great guy but perhaps they use inferior products or just don't have the skills around that kind of job. read more

I think this company has some very experienced people. Their website makes me think that. But they sent a very young, nervous person incapable of doing the work that we had scheduled over a month before. My first email had clearly stated that I needed some window cranks replaced, and that I had others that were tight but probably just needed some lubrication. I sent photographs, manufacturer information. I was told the person would stop at Home Depot to get the parts and would arrive at 9 AM. They said they'd just get extras and could return the rest or all of them if it was wrong. At about 9:15 she shows up, said that she was going to go to Home Depot after she figured out what was needed. I walked through the entire house with her, she took not a single note, but I was counting in my head. We needed 5 replacements. She said 4 (not even counting correctly, and also if she had known what she was doing would have realized she needed to know whether they were right or left mount), but she really thought the entire window needed to be replaced! She left for Home Depot and I'm there thinking - now I'm getting charged for a round trip to Home Depot because she didn't look at the pictures I sent? The next call I got was from the office saying this job was over their head (honestly it's not... I found a 4-minute YouTube video within 60 seconds of her leaving that explained how to do but this person was so clearly not an experienced handy person), and they gave me the name of a local window company. So I will get the work done, we're all calling it a wash, but I wasted a morning plus have waited a month. Ridiculous. I normally only say nice things, but I think the defensive voicemail they left saying that I hadn't explained what was needed made me want to tell someone about this experience. I went back to the first email I wrote, and it said, verbatim - "The windows in our house open outward with cranks, many of which are broken or non-functional. Can you fix something like this? There are quite a few of them. Let me know, please." We then had much back and forth with me sending the photos and descriptions I wrote about above. I did say later that I suspected some of them just needed lubrication, but since I had begun the inquiry with the clear statement they needed replacement, I did not repeat myself. Make sure to clarify the specific experience of the person they send. And make sure they understand what the job entails. Their "team" is not everyone shown on the website. read more

They sent a young woman to remove a shelf from my master closet and install it in my office. I had done all the measurements and knew exactly what needed to be done and how to do it. The woman came, took a look at the shelf and balked at first saying it was screwed to the wall and she wouldn't be able to remove it. I firmly asked her to "give it a good whack" and it turned out that it was only held up by some small nails and caulk. So she was able to get it out pretty easily with my supervision. When installing in my office, she couldn't find the stud and made several holes which I had to ask her to fill so it didn't look like a woodpecker had a field day. She left a lot of dust and debris which she didn't clean up. However, I was reasonably happy with the work and she was prompt and polite. Then the bill arrived which had an overhead of 20% for her to go to Home Depot to pick up a couple of items. And they don't take credit card and charge 3.5% overhead if you want to use one. None of this info is provided up front to the customer. I felt like it was a bait and switch model to trap a customer. Beware - they claim they are too small to use a credit card. They can easily use Venmo or Zelle but they seem to be more interested in gouging the customer than providing good service. Not sure I would use them again. read more

The handy man, Jim, did great work installing a new back door for us. However, the office that handles the billing and appointments has terrible customer service and dubious billing. They tacked on an extra hour of work and when I inquired about it were hesitant to explain that it was for the handyman's wait time at Home Depot, not actual work. Will not be using them again as their business practices are not trustworthy and the customer service from Margaret is awful. read more

Good experience start to finish. I was able to schedule an appt within a week of when I called. The handy(wo)man Kate arrived on time. She did a great job fixing the loose tiles in my shower and replacing the grout. She matched the color of the new grout to the existing grout perfectly. I could not be more pleased with the wooden stairs that Lawrence re-engineered from my garage into my house. The wider top step landing, which is level to the house, as well as the well-crafted railings, are exactly what my 91 year old mom needed to confidently and easily get into the house. I have a rental property in Boulder and these guys always do professional work at a fair price. Margaret is the first point of contact and handles customer service and scheduling and she is excellent. John completed a long list of fixes exceptionally including new interior door, adding closet doors, new kitchen sink and faucet and a bunch of smaller jobs. He is real good at working independently, approaching the work in a manner that is efficient with labor and materials while delivering on quality repair work. They make me feel very confident that I am in good hands even though I live out of state. read more

Hanz on pro charges just to come out to give an estimate. They explained that is apparantely their policy as listed on their website. We didn't use them for any services, but were surprised to receive an invoice for the estimate. Horrible. I wouldn't trust them. read more

They cleared out and replaced some rotted wood and joists in my crawlspace. It wasn't an easy job given the location of the rotted wood. They also fixed up the rotted subfloor. Not only did they fix everything quickly, they did it at half that another company quoted. I was very happy with their work and I will definitely use them again. read more

I had a great experience with Hanz-On, and my contractor, John. I rec'd a prompt response to my online inquiry for an appointment. John arrived on time, introduced himself, and respectfully removed his shoes (even though I had no preference). We then went through my list of projects, which he addressed strategically to make the best use of my time. My projects were fairly minor for a skilled contractor, but really important to me. He was thorough and efficient. I appreciate their professionalism, respect for my time and my house, and broad range of skill. While I don't doubt the ability of this company to do the work, my experience trying to get an estimate and then scheduling a handyman to do my project was nothing short of ridiculous. First off, they were reluctant to provide an estimate and then every time I tried to confirm I was given a different answer. Once I finally got them to give me an estimate, my job was canceled and then rescheduled and pushed out. My job required to be sequenced with other contractors, so I needed a firm commitment on a date. Finally, the day they were to begin, they called me at the last minute (I stayed home from work that day) to say their handyman was sick and couldn't do the work that day, but he would the next day (I understand everybody gets sick, but...). The next day, he shows up unannounced to say he wasn't going to do the work, but just try to estimate and plan the work. He then told me it would cost 2x what the original estimate was...seriously? I was in a bind (due to project sequencing) so said lets go ahead. He told me he'd start the work later that week. So now it's Friday and he doesn't show up. I call the office and they say oh sorry, he can't come out for another month! I called to say that was NOT okay and they told me it was just how it is and that it's really hard to schedule and my project wasn't that big of a deal any way. They later tried to scramble to get another handyman out, but it was too little and too late. Never used them, never will. Buyer beware. read more
